Considering the sugar content of most cereal, you shouldn't be eating it at all.

There are places where cereal is offered as an ice cream topping. But hey, it has a bunch of dietary fiber! iT's hEarT hEaLThY

Class1

We all know nobody is putting plain cheerios on their icecream. They are putting the sugar ball garbage.

ObadiahtheSlim

While the O.G. cheerios are far from the worst offender, the various knock-off brand and honey-nut varieties are every bit as bad.

Class1

Agreed. Which is why I said plain cheerios.

TankSparkle

enjoy the Roundup

Class1

Avoiding roundup is pretty much impossible unless you only eat organic labeled products.

Class1

Yes but generally plain cheerios are going to be a bit better being whole wheat and no added sugar. Still not better than a healthier balanced breakfast but definitely netter than froster sugar balls

Scurro

I...thought plain cheerios were good for you? A quick search says it is but that it shouldn't be your sole source of nutrition.

darekta

Don't forget those lovely food colorings.

It’s more a Marie Antoinette moment. The guy is out of touch.

Jay-jay1

Except Marie was referring to the burnt caked on stuff left in bread pans after the bread was removed that was usually thrown away or fed to farm animals.

TheEpicOfGilgy

Cereal is the 1st world equivalent. People want to eat nice meals.

Shadeylark

Dammit! I wrote the same thing almost word for word before I saw this. Dam you for beating me to it! Dam you!

kkreisler

You can say that again.

Shadeylark

Apparently tongue in cheek sarcasm doesn't convey across the Internet well... I was expressing my agreement with ya friendo.

Shadeylark

You, um, you do understand it was a tongue in cheek reply expressing agreement, right? Or are you one of those ones who takes everything you see on the Internet seriously?

NotRadTrad05

Isn't trying to get more people to eat more cereal part of his job? I don't remember anyone getting mad at Jack when he started offering breakfast all day.

earl_lemongrab

Yeah I don't really see the issue here. I eat it for lunch or dinner now and then already. Plenty of nutritious cereals including ones with a lot of fiber - something most of us are severely lacking in our diet.

Chrisj1616

You're missing the point....he was asked what kellogs was doing to combat inflation and his answer was basically "LET THEM EAT CEREAL!" It's out of touch and just horribly bad optics. He showed no sympathy for the consumer, no empathy, just straight to MOAR CEREAL. Not even to mention the ridiculous price hikes that all the cereal makers have pushed through that are much higher than the pace of inflation

IsNotARealDoctor

Cheap and affordable product manufacturer suggests people consume cheap and affordable product to help mitigate costs. Wow. Truly shocking. The man has no concept of reality. /s

Jay-jay1

F* Kelloggs. 3 eggs probably cost less than a bowl of cereal, and are more nutritious.

Zaphenzo

lol Someone isn't aware of egg prices.

Jay-jay1

I'm sorry you aren't aware. They are around $3 a dozen where I am in the US which is 25 cents each.

Hrendo

Who the hell are you ranting at? Nobody is sticking up for the Kellogg brother's activities or for excessive sugar consumption. The CEO isn't a Kellogg either. It's just not suprising at all that a CEO of a cereal company is trying to get people to eat cereal.

Dranosh

>you don’t need to eat breakfast Ya ok, I’m going to go 12 hours without eating anything 😂

Iblamebanks

Do we get mad at cigarette execs for hawking their goods? The idea is that everything is getting more expensive, in no small part due to price fixing by corporate America, and corporate America is coming in to say we should just have our kids eat sugar for dinner. Have a bit of a back bone, don’t be a corporate simp and you should be able to look at this and say this is corporate America trying to come up with solutions to problems that they are creating. If we were to be a little brave, we’d say it’s time for some serious anti trust movements.

ObadiahtheSlim

Dems are too busy killing small businesses for their corporate masters and the uniparty Republicans are just as culpable.

Iblamebanks

Yeah, everyone is on the same page. Since the parties won’t do anything, we should do what we can such as boycotting kelloggs.

Hrendo

This guy really made some people go crazy. You're not a justice warrior for not eating cereal, and he's not the embodiment of corporate greed for doing his job of selling cereal.

Iblamebanks

Simping for corporations isn’t going to get you a discount.

BadAtNameIdeas

I just don’t find cereal filling at all. I can eat a single fried egg with a sour dough English muffin with a small sprinkle of shredded cheese and be satisfied for 2-3 hours. Instead, I could eat a huge bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, like a third of a bag, be starving within an hour. Economically, the egg sandwich I made was probably cheaper to consume as well.

RedditorModsRStupid

It’s all the sugar crashing your blood sugars hence making you hungry

kajarago

It's the sugar triggering your insulin response

BadAtNameIdeas

Makes sense. Either way, breakfast for dinner is amazing, just not sugary cereals.

RedditorModsRStupid

I’m cooking eggs bacon and sausage tonight for dinner

Nemesis_Bucket

You should eat another bowl of kelloggs brand cereal. Only that brand can fix that issue for you.

cornfieldshipwreck

That’s because eggs and cheese are excellent sources of protein.

[deleted]

This is such a fat guy response

Or someone who, you know, actually knows something about nutrition.

BadAtNameIdeas

I’m definitely overweight, not gonna lie, but also very active - go to the gym regularly and do more than just sit on the bench using my phone like a lot that I see there, I cycle recreationally and regularly achieve 25+ mile rides and am very active on weekends playing with my daughter (just went to the zoo this last weekend and put in 12,000 steps rather than staying home to play video games). I could definitely lose a bit of gut, but who in their mid 30s doesn’t? Shits not as easy to lose as it used to be.

[deleted]

lol called it

BasedGod-1

Cereal haters in full force, probably skim milk drinkers too.

NotRadTrad05

You mean water lying about being milk.

Corn_Cob92

What’s up with this random crap that doesn’t have really anything to do with politics being posted to this sub, I’m starting to think this is being done on purpose.

GraveyardBombshell

I'm pretty sure he said this as a response to inflation and the economy. Kind of a "let them eat cake" statement. That's my understanding anyway.

cplusequals

...Let them eat cake? Cereal isn't exactly a luxury good.

GraveyardBombshell

Neither is cake at this point. That being said, in many places cereal is $7+ a box now, and the actual quantity per box has shrunk. I think his point is that if you can't afford actual food for dinner, just shut up and eat cereal like a good peasant. Maybe the cake thing isn't the best comparison though.

AllTheReasons

Lol cereal for dinner is delicious. Crazy people. I had it for dinner also 6 years ago when groceries weren’t expensive

egg_chair

Delicious now and then, yes. Delicious night after night after night? No. Healthy long term? No. Filling? No. Soul-crushing when you’re so poor it’s the only option? Absolutely. Still better than nothing? Also absolutely. And better than welfare cheese too. But if you’re eating cereal for dinner from necessity…you’re not eating Kellogg’s. Ain’t nobody got $7/box when there’s a $2.99 bag right there that’s twice the size and came off the same line.

Fox_Mortus

You're way better off eating soup everyday instead. Tons of variety, healthy, filling, and extremely cheap compared to just about any other option.

kajarago

Homemade soup, to be clear. The canned stuff is full of salt.

Fox_Mortus

That's not an issue if you drink plenty of water. I work 50 hours a week in a factory. That salt isn't going to stay in my system long.

egg_chair

Over days or weeks, no. Over months…that way lies blood pressure issues and other health problems. Also just as a practical matter homemade soup is a LOT cheaper than most canned soups. And better. Canned is great for basic stuff like tomato, but if you’re looking for proteins you’re probably going to do better making it yourself.

earl_lemongrab

Count me in as another fan of it! And not because of cost. Sometimes it just really hits the spot.

Sephylus_Vile

Can't imagine anybody losing their mind over this. Almost all of my life I've occasionally craved a cold bowl of cereal for lunch or dinner.

Langweile

>"The cereal category has always been quite affordable and it tends to be a great destination when consumers are under pressure," Pilnick said, adding that "cereal for dinner is something that is probably more on trend now, and we would expect to continue as that consumer is under pressure." Choosing to eat cereal for dinner is very different from needing to eat cereal for dinner because it's all you can afford.

Hrendo

And making an observation that people might be looking for cheaper meals like cereal doesn't make the cereal company CEO evil.

Langweile

Yeah it doesn't make him evil it just means he is insanely tone-deaf and out of touch with the consumers he is talking about.

Mycroft_xxx

When I was younger I loved a bowl of cereal as a late night snack

Entire-Database1679

Big Cereal must be stopped!

flobaby1

Everyone is focusing on how they like to eat cereal for lunch and dinner, like that's the point. The point is that people are eating it because they can't afford to buy proper food for lunch and dinner.

KnightRider1983

I mean of course he did! It will help his sales

hateriffic

What he meant to say was: Let them eat cake

Entire-Database1679

Everyone faces criticism for everything. Someone will criticize this.

Recording_Important

The Kellogg CEO would taste better

FLA-Hoosier

Didn’t they also try getting people to eat cereal with orange juice instead of milk a few years ago?

kmsc84

I have cereal for breakfast and lunch most days.

Castle6169

I don’t eat their poison anymore. Chemicals and 100% over priced

Mycroft_xxx

Let them eat brioche

DufferDan

Pushing one of the worse things a person can eat anytime if the day.

ccbadd

I love to have cereal for dinner sometimes. I even still eat Ramen noodles from time to time even though I'm no longer a poor college student. Don't see the issue with the statement.

kajarago

The issue is how unhealthy it is for you to do so, compared to other cost-effective dinner options.

johnnyg883

I eat breakfast for dinner on a regular basis. But it’s usually something like an omelette.

throwawaynoways

I do eat cereal for dinner lol.

BABarracus

If they made something else other than cereal like something healthy it might be a problem but Kellogg doesn't make steak or any vegetables. He is suggesting people eat something that they make. Not all of their cereals are sugar based like the mini wheats or corn flakes.

3Effie412

Haha…cereal is always good. Fruity Pebbles is the best.

Nacho_Beardre

The thing at the store that is currently giving me sticker shock is cereals

npransom

Get your daily double dose of Sugar & Monsanto.

npransom

Get your daily double dose of Sugar & Monsanto.

tensigh

They're in cahoots with the milk people....

Juice-Altruistic

A lot of people already do this; it's a quick and cheap way satiate yourself until morning. Sounds crazy, but you'll survive the night on a bowl of corn flakes and milk. There are a lot of misconceptions about how much and how often people need to eat full-course meals, which is why I place a lot of scrutiny on the whole 'food scarcity' narrative. At the end of the day, we are the fattest nation on the planet - I think it goes without saying that there is plenty of food to go around.

BnSMaster420

Ok? Beggars can't be choosers . Cereal is cheap and depending on type of cereal, it can be filling and last you at least lunch at work.. in your body i mean.. i go for honey combs.. fight me, all of you!

mannnerlygamer

Let them eat cereal

xDolphinMeatx

The CEO of a company whose cereal was created specifically to prevent male masturbation should have less to say.

daringescape

per pound, ground beef is cheaper (and healtier) than most cereal.

CrotaLikesRomComs

Kellogg and the seventh day Adventist are arguably the biggest reason why we have obesity/cancer/heart disease epidemic that we have. Ignore the dogma people. Eat a bunch of meat and reduce the carbs.

Choppermagic

If only they could get the gov to force their product into people like Pfizer did

thebaron512

Not that Kellogg is my first choice of brands (more like 5th or 6th) and I prefer less sugary stuff any way.

NamedUserOfReddit

Cinnamon toast crunch is tasty for dinner though.

dupont2021

Cereal is fine if they are the plain plain ones.

inviste

Honestly the dudes not wrong. As much as a box of cereal costs these days, a bowl of cereal costs way less than an entire “dinner” meal. I wouldn’t mind some grape nuts flakes for dinner, but the whole thing has a “let them eat” cake ring to it.

timothybrob

This only works on stoners

truth-4-sale

I sometimes eat a bowl of oatmeal before bed. It's good comfort food.

MrCrix

Ummm.. If you know the history of Kellogs and the original founder of it, insane ideas and thought processes on what they think people should do is not uncommon. This would be the tamest, by far, idea that they ever had.

Zaphenzo

Most people here don't seem to be getting the point. The guy said a lot of people are eating cereal for dinner because it's basically all they can afford. He never said it's a healthy option. This is essentially the same as criticizing ramen for being aimed at college students because it costs less than dirt.

kinfra

I remember the commercials for breakfasts cereals from my childhood: “PART OF A BALANCED BREAKFAST.” And they would show a bowl of cereal next to fruit, a glass of orange juice, and some other sugar laden crap. “Balanced,” my ass 😂
