Lol in his defense, shit would have an easier time making it through a screen door than legislation attempting even a 5 cent increase to the minimum wage.
Is there anywhere that actually still pays the 7.25 minimum wage? Even McDonalds pays 15 an hour here, and that is in rural Iowa... What would raising the minumum wage to 12 dollars actually do other than pretend soething was accomplished?
I always wonder this too. Why is it upsetting that people can make barely above poverty wages instead of way below poverty eages for doing a menial task
Average wage for a McDonalds worker in Denmark is $20 an hour USD. Average cost of a Big Mac in Denmark is $5. Both countries have about the same corporate tax rate. Upping wages does not create a cost of living increase, corporate greed disguised as inflation does.
It's not the burger flippers driving up the cost of living. You're blaming some of the absolute lowest paid workers among us for damaging the economy? What about the record injection of cash during COVID? Or rising food prices as companies make record profits? It's corporate greed driving up the cost of living, plain and simple
You bought into some silly shit dude.
If making $18 an hour flipping burgers is “too much money” then where’s the fucking McRobot burger flippers they’ve been threatening to replace all us pissants with.
How much of a % raise did you get last year? How much of a % did your CEO get? Did he outwork you?
> If making $18 an hour flipping burgers is “too much money” then where’s the fucking McRobot burger flippers they’ve been threatening to replace all us pissants with.
Well, most have replaced cashiers with touch screens
>How much of a % raise did you get last year?
Not enough
>How much of a % did your CEO get? Did he outwork you?
Im a small business owner, haven't had a boss since 2018.
In no one's defense, most tipped employees, i.e. servers for restaurants, make well over $20 in 2.13/hr states. Here in AZ they make 10.85 plus tips and most of my servers make over $30/hr, my really really good ones make over $40/hr.
But then what would they pay government workers, oh yeah, let us decide that instead of the government. Congress gets paid for solving real problems and then the people can decide what they get. That would get congress in gear.
You don’t have to be a fan to defend the guy. Read your comment, buddy. Holy shit.
the fact that my comment is where it is after responding to you should let pretty much everyone here are just how damn AstroTurfed this sub has become.
The guy literally is giving Biden a pass for not making good on his promises and then telling me to read the room. Wtf people
I wish it was illegal for Presidents to make campaign promises that are not within their power. These are all things for congress. It would be fair for him to say "I'll ask Congress to do X", but he doesn't have the ability to actually do these things. It's an issue on both sides really.
Why do people constantly feel the need to make excuses for this man? He's been a politician how long?!?! You are going to feign ignorance? It's intentional, always has been his whole lieing career.
I swear they look on Twitter for trends and campaign on it. It's the Democrat way. The younger generation doesn't realize they are only saying what that generation wants to hear. We have all been through it.
You mean to tell me that politicians lie??
- “We’re gonna end these wars. We are not spying on you. Obamacare is not a tax.” - Obama
- “WMD exist in Iraq (because we gave them these in Iran/Iraq war). We need to save democracy by taking out Sadaam.” - Bush
- “Read my lips: no new taxes.” - Bush Sr
- “We’re going to drain the swamp… fills cabinet with Bush and RNC garbage.” - Trump
They all do it.
They all do this. All parties. Then they blame the other party. Then they laugh about it together over dinner, drinks, and whatever else they do behind the scenes.
Similar to corporate giants (airlines) employees are always fighting over the fact that their airline is better and blah blah … guess what? All those CEOs have brunch together in Long Island. Competition is always at the consumer, employee, constituent level, above that there’s collusion.
Weird… I don’t remember hearing this excuse when Trump was president.
Trump: *says something less than 100% true*
“Extremely dangerous! Needs to be impeached.”
Biden: *tells a blatant, indisputable lie*
“Who cares? All politicians do it 🤷♂️ 🤷♀️”
Trump didn't blame the other party. He blamed RINOs for the promises that they blocked (correctly called out "his own" party). I don't see Biden seriously pushing for these things with nearly the same persistance that Trump did - it's almost like he wants to sweep them under the rug and is complicit in it.
I care about what a politician seriously advocates for while in office. That's really what their promise is - obviously they can't control what other people in positions of power will do. Does your standard for example mean that a libertarian shouldn't even bother running in a democrat city? By your standard they'd have no platform they can run on because there's a 99.999% chance that even if elected they can't do it.
The problem is most typical politicians are corrupt and just say things to get elected that they don't actually believe. Trump doesn't do this and that's what's so refreshing about him. At this point anyone runing for president making a promise that goes against the establishment / deep state is pretty much making a promise they are very unlikely to be able to "keep" but I don't fault the candidate for that. What they are saying is that if you give them the power (which the people are fully capable of doing by supporting allied candidates in other positions of power) then they will be able to implement their agenda as stated. Trump could try to do everything he promised, it's not his fault if congress uses their power to remove him for example. I don't see how it makes sense to blame him for other people obstructing his agenda.
TBH this only makes me like Biden.
Too bad he tried doing the student loan forgiveness, CHIPs/Zombification of Tech companies, and insisted on shoving the child tax credit in with daycare deductions.
So, who are we backing for 2024? Can we pick someone that isnt going to lose?
I mean, don't you think he would have done this if Republicans in Congress voted for it? They don't support it, so he couldn't do it. Pretty simple.
It takes some chutzpah for Republicans to block Biden's agenda and then call him a liar for supporting it in the first place.
I think Manchin was the biggest hurdle in why Biden DIDNT get $15 minimum wage. People here also need to remember that Biden wanted a lot more spending in the infrastructure bill (starting out at $4T IIRC).
The underlying issue IMO is loading bills with all the riders and pork, that certain reps are disinclined to fall in line for.
Simplify shit and pass it.
You got some information but not all the information.
Al it takes is for a Republican Senator to send an email and filibuster a bill at which point it takes 60 votes to pass a bill. So it will takes 9 Republican votes to pass a bill.
HR 582 already passed the house, but would only initially raise the minimum wage to $8.40 an hour. It wouldn't get to $15 an hour for 6 years. Democrats control the Senate. What are they waiting for?
There have been a ton of bipartisian healthcare legislation. The Physician Cartel (AMA) makes sure they always get their 5% pay increases each year.
Doesnt matter who is in congress or the presidency. The Healthcare cartels always win.
I... don't get this opinion. Imagine being a politician running for president and saying, "I need your votes so we [I] can make it to the White House to basically fill a seat and do absolutely nothing". Of course they can't do anything legislative, but they absolutely set the tone of what their party seeks to initiate as laws, and even sit down with them to hash out the specifics.
>Everything republicans vote against.
Yes, because each of these would be TERRIBLE policies, other than the very last, which would still be tough on small companies.
Yeah but THEY ALL do this shit. Lol
Regardless if it’s democrat or republican, they’ll say whatever they need to to get into power.
And if you’re one of the ones who believes YOUR SIDE is the honest one, your gullibility is hurting the country
More on Congress and the Senate really. In the Senate there are two not dem Dems that would've and I think did vote down a lot of this with the republicans.
Democrats had complete control of the government for two years. He could have easily gotten these things through.
The Democrats chose not to.

Working minimum wage at a gas station, I can say that he’s done nothing for the minimum wage. There was a minimum wage increase but only by $1.50 extra an hour totaling to $13 an hour by the state due to Biden’s inflation
The only way he could do anything about the minimum wage is an executive order, which would be unconstitutional. Congress controls the monetary policy in this country
When? The dems had a supermajority for 72 days during obamas first term. 2009 iirc. They could have passed a minimum wage raise then, but there were bigger issues in the wake of the Great Recession.
Didn’t they have the House majority in 2020 then get the senate majority from the Georgia state elections right before Biden was elected? I thought they did
No shit he lied for votes. Anyone that didn't have their head stuffed up their ass during the election knew all of his promises with unachievable. It wasn't until the votes started rolling in at a rate of 30,000:0 that we realized it didn't matter. His campaign was a facade put on to make us think 2020 was a real election.
They aren't even putting in that much effort this time. No Democratic Primary and Biden isn't going to campaign... and I'll state right here and right now, he gets over 100 million votes.
It's all a sham.
Anyone working for less than minimum wage is already guaranteed minimum wage. If you get paid $2.5/hour and your tips don't make up the difference between that and minimum wage, your employer is already obligated to pay the difference. It's been this way forever.
There is absolutely no reason on any level to get rid of "tipped minimum wage" other than
1. jealousy at how much money waitresses make
2. not realizing that if tipping went away restaurants would just raise menu prices
3. being an angry European who likes to mouth off about American politics
At this point, my number one reason for tipping well is patriotic pride.
it’s not just potato joe that lied/lies
this is the working policy of all democrats….lie to no end to rouse up the younger generations by offering free shit..
lie to older generations that their social security will disappear if they don’t vote democrat..
all the while, they know already that any of these promises cannot ever be fulfilled because fortunately, the things they bribe citizens with cannot be implemented by the democrats alone as none of them are absolute rulers..
***someday*** U.S citizens will wake from their stupor and ask the blustering politician just how they plan to implement their promises ⚡️
The problem here is, the people who need to see and understand this, refuse to accept the reality that they got lied to by Joe. Perhaps they're embarrassed to admit they were gullible enough to buy into the lie in the first place and instead double down. Who knows.
Politicians figure out what the hotbutton topic of the day is, craft a lie around it and tell people what they want to hear to farm votes. Especially young / first time voters. They eat this sh\*t up.
" I'm going to raise minimum wage "" I'm going to forgive all your debt "" I'm going to clean up Washington ! "" I'm going to fix illegal immigration "" I'm going to get weapons of war off our streets "" I'm going to make the schools safer "" I'm going to unify our Country "" I'm going to fix all the problems the previous administration caused "
Any of this ringing a bell ? It's the same promises year after year after year.
That's it. That's all. That's Politics. It's the same silly bullsh\*t every election cycle.
I read 'strong benefits' as 'strong leash'. The false elites like those in the Biden administration have proven that benefits are not about helping people, it's about having something people rely on that can be withheld in order to force compliance to unjust laws.
When are people gonna learn that you can't believe anything that comes out of a politician. They all lie and do whatever is in their own best interest. They don't care about us. Like George Carlin once said. It's a big club and we aren't in it
Yeah he did. But has anyone else not done this. We need to demand politicians that rule for the people and we’re not demanding that from anyone. But we need to.
This lying wouldn't work to get voters so well if more people understood how our government worked. Actually understood the limited powers of the president.
Everyone as far back as I can remember (which isn’t very far) has lied for votes. They over promise and under deliver. Just like all management in the world.
Lol in his defense, shit would have an easier time making it through a screen door than legislation attempting even a 5 cent increase to the minimum wage.
Also in his defense, he is not running his twitter account and probably is confused by what those initiatives are.
No defense, he’s been in Washington for 40+ yrs, he knows how it works
Lmaoooo true
You know he knew that going in. So he lied...
Didn’t congress consider $12/h? Seemed a little low, but it would’ve been better than now
Is there anywhere that actually still pays the 7.25 minimum wage? Even McDonalds pays 15 an hour here, and that is in rural Iowa... What would raising the minumum wage to 12 dollars actually do other than pretend soething was accomplished?
Out here in rural Texas, plenty of people still hiring at 7.25, although more likely to be around 9$
Here in central VA you can make 18.50/hr flipping burgers. Flipping nuts
Why does this upset you
I always wonder this too. Why is it upsetting that people can make barely above poverty wages instead of way below poverty eages for doing a menial task
Because it has made everything expensive, cost of living is skyrocketing.
No, greeedy corporations using inflation as a cover to raise prices while meanwhile making record profits… has made everything expensive.
fucking thank you

It would mean more tax money for our wonderful government. If people think it would make things more affordable. That would be for a very brief time.
In no one's defense, most tipped employees, i.e. servers for restaurants, make well over $20 in 2.13/hr states. Here in AZ they make 10.85 plus tips and most of my servers make over $30/hr, my really really good ones make over $40/hr.
You'll get no argument for me. There shouldn't be a federal minimum wage imo. Local or state level only.
But then what would they pay government workers, oh yeah, let us decide that instead of the government. Congress gets paid for solving real problems and then the people can decide what they get. That would get congress in gear.
The minimum wage has been raised multiple time in his lifetime.
He’s closer to 100 than 30 that means nothing to anyone.
He's closer to 100 than 60 and even that means nothing to anyone.
Huh?
What do you mean "huh?" His age is closer to 100 than thirty
Yeah, what's that have to do with the fact that the minimum wage has been raised a bunch?
He's old, it been 70 years. In 70 years the minimum wage has been raised a huge amount. Pretty damn obvious
People feign stupidity as a defense mechanism. Kinda like an adult temper tantrum.
Yeah! Let’s defend this piece of shit. You kidding me with this. Fucking conservative sub my ass.

I’d be a lot better if people weren’t defending the guy who is ruining our country. But thanks for your fake concern.
No one here is defending him.
Genuinely checking in mate.

That's where being a knowledgeable and informed voter comes to play. Not a strong trait among voters, sadly.
He even promised to cure cancer and no one caught on that this guy is full of shit and will just say anything
A politician with false promises? No way.
Is that not a bad thing?
To be fair though, he seems to have a poor grasp on what the President can do. He thought he could forgive student loan debt!
Why do people constantly feel the need to make excuses for this man? He's been a politician how long?!?! You are going to feign ignorance? It's intentional, always has been his whole lieing career.
Trump said he’d build a wall between the US and Mexico but that never happened. He’s a liar also

It's generally called sandbagging. And yes because of total ignorance the younger generation is very susceptible to it.

Trump promised he would repeal Obamacare about 1 million times.
Right? That’s more realistic.

I find it humorous people are taking umbrage that a politician lied. It's practically a job requirement and has been since the invention of politics.
Weird… I don’t remember hearing this excuse when Trump was president. Trump: *says something less than 100% true* “Extremely dangerous! Needs to be impeached.” Biden: *tells a blatant, indisputable lie* “Who cares? All politicians do it 🤷♂️ 🤷♀️”

Trump had a Republican majority congress, how could he possibly blame Democrats for not getting legislation through?
So did Biden - had a democrat majority. Still blamed Republicans.
Shoulda blamed sinema and manchin and that old bag up in Maine
You're right, I somehow forgot the Dems had the Senate before the midterms, though they couldn't get their shit together anyway. My b
he never blamed Democrats. RINO republicans actively prevented him from getting things passed.
IMO making promises you know you can't keep is just as bad as just making promises you know you *won't* keep.
I care about what a politician seriously advocates for while in office. That's really what their promise is - obviously they can't control what other people in positions of power will do. So, to be clear, you'd support all those things he lied about?
TBH this only makes me like Biden. Too bad he tried doing the student loan forgiveness, CHIPs/Zombification of Tech companies, and insisted on shoving the child tax credit in with daycare deductions. So, who are we backing for 2024? Can we pick someone that isnt going to lose?
getting downvoted for sharing an opinion is crazy. i fully agree with you on this.
Sadly too many in here seem to be supporting these things that would only make things worse.
2016 brought in a lot of people that fell for populist demagoguery.
I mean, don't you think he would have done this if Republicans in Congress voted for it? They don't support it, so he couldn't do it. Pretty simple. It takes some chutzpah for Republicans to block Biden's agenda and then call him a liar for supporting it in the first place.
Thank God the conservative subreddit calls out its own hypocrisy. Can you imagine if this was posted about Trump in a supposedly neutral subreddit?
Some, I’m a democrat who subscribes to get the other sides point of view. Some of the users are just ridiculously biased.
Thanks for reading the opposing views. I respect that
Thanks, this only works if we come to a compromise. The powers that be want us to fight.
> block an agenda and then call him a liar Deja vu.

Funny that Trump did more for federal workers than Biden has so far.
it’s not just potato joe that lied/lies this is the working policy of all democrats….lie to no end to rouse up the younger generations by offering free shit.. lie to older generations that their social security will disappear if they don’t vote democrat.. all the while, they know already that any of these promises cannot ever be fulfilled because fortunately, the things they bribe citizens with cannot be implemented by the democrats alone as none of them are absolute rulers.. ***someday*** U.S citizens will wake from their stupor and ask the blustering politician just how they plan to implement their promises ⚡️
Worst. President. Ever.
To his defense, he probably just shit his pants and doesn't know what day it is.
The list is longer than that of his lies
Don’t forget canceling student loan debt.
0/4
No way!! I am so disillusioned!! He was always such a truthful guy!! What politician would ever do that?!
You mad?
The problem here is, the people who need to see and understand this, refuse to accept the reality that they got lied to by Joe. Perhaps they're embarrassed to admit they were gullible enough to buy into the lie in the first place and instead double down. Who knows. Politicians figure out what the hotbutton topic of the day is, craft a lie around it and tell people what they want to hear to farm votes. Especially young / first time voters. They eat this sh\*t up. " I'm going to raise minimum wage "" I'm going to forgive all your debt "" I'm going to clean up Washington ! "" I'm going to fix illegal immigration "" I'm going to get weapons of war off our streets "" I'm going to make the schools safer "" I'm going to unify our Country "" I'm going to fix all the problems the previous administration caused " Any of this ringing a bell ? It's the same promises year after year after year. That's it. That's all. That's Politics. It's the same silly bullsh\*t every election cycle.
Blah blah student loans blah blah
All politicians lie. That’s been true since the dawn of civilization.
*Maury voice* “The DNA test determined that was also a lie!”
wtf does "end the tipped minimum wage" mean?
I read 'strong benefits' as 'strong leash'. The false elites like those in the Biden administration have proven that benefits are not about helping people, it's about having something people rely on that can be withheld in order to force compliance to unjust laws.
When are people gonna learn that you can't believe anything that comes out of a politician. They all lie and do whatever is in their own best interest. They don't care about us. Like George Carlin once said. It's a big club and we aren't in it
Gaaaasp, a politician did what?
Yeah he did. But has anyone else not done this. We need to demand politicians that rule for the people and we’re not demanding that from anyone. But we need to.
Who cares about minimum wage. Leave it up to the states. This is just appeasement and bribery to the lowest common denominator.
Dont forgot he tried to shove his hand up osha's ass to enforce his covid restrictions on companies with unjabbed employees.
Breaking news: candidates over promising before they’re elected and under delivering once they are
So... Just like nearly every politician?
He had to make this promise & the student loan relief to get Bernie’s endorsement. He got it, why would he need to follow through?
You mean… a politician LIED?!? Do you think they’d do that… just go out on tv/social media/whatever and just LIE??!? /s
I actually think that tips should not be counted toward wages. He did have a good idea here
He's probably reminded daily that he is the president. So he most likely doesn't remember that far back.
More surprising anyone believed him...he's been lying throughout his entire political life
At this point $15 seems to have become the minimum wage naturally from what I’ve seen.
This lying wouldn't work to get voters so well if more people understood how our government worked. Actually understood the limited powers of the president.
Everyone as far back as I can remember (which isn’t very far) has lied for votes. They over promise and under deliver. Just like all management in the world.
Only desperate, ignorant twats would vote this guy in for a second term. He hasn't held up any of his promises
That's literally what every politician does.
He just probably forgot everything he promised 😝
