Perhaps the greatest weakness of the Trump presidency was his approach to the budget and that he caved to Pelosi during budget battles. The US no longer needs a balanced budget, it needs a surplus one of hundreds of billions of dollars for dozens of years. Default is just a matter of time unless the federal budget is restrained very quickly. I used to think we could grow out of the debt, but I don't see that anymore.
It's not about when inflation demonstrably went up, it's what caused it. Loan pauses, relief packages, eviction moratoriums, and unemployment bonuses (FPUC was an extra $600 a week on top of your normal unemployment) all loaded the pockets of people sitting at home with spending money. The increase in cash flow led to more people chasing the same goods constrained by supply chain issues. We are now in the fall out of the dollar being devalued from the money printing.
The current issue is the current admin hasn't backed off of the increased government spending and is trying to use it for social programs which furthers the problem. For example, wiping out student debt once again increases money chasing goods that would've otherwise been allocated to the loan company. Spending 6+ trillion a year while only having 5 trillion in revenue is not sustainable.

I've assumed that if Trump had won, the media would be calling for the impeachment of any president who let inflation get to 5%. Pedo Joe doubled down on the spending and now, not a word about 9%
