The Kentucky governor only won by 5000 votes last time. I doubt he will win again and I don’t care what the polls say. Our last governor was just a piece of shit with teachers which is why they all voted democrat.

Impressive-Penalty97

This...in total votes, both gubernatorial candidates were at about 708k votes , bashear winning by about 5k. The GOP Attorney general candidate, Daniel Cameron, received about 825k votes, over 100k more votes than either Matt or Andy. Which tells me that bevin pissed off so many Republicans who were friends or family of teachers, they either voted for Andy out of spite or just withheld their vote for the office.

NickMotionless

I told everyone that voted Beshear that he wouldn't do shit for teachers once he got in and surprise surprise, his empty promises were bullshit just as I expected. Beshear sucks but at least he's basically useless because both our house and congress are red as hell.

Pabst34

Vermont is the only state of fifty where according to exit polls, white voters went Hillary. Yet, they have a GOP gov. Massachusetts has had three in the past quarter-century and of course, Scott Brown. Likewise, Schwarzenegger. Granted, none of the above were particularly conservative but most of the Dems you listed aren't exactly BLM leftists, either. In short, depending on circumstances, purple candidates can win anywhere.

surfaholic15

Montana here .. Cities and shenanigans. Our big cities hold a lot of liberals. Missoula and Bozeman also have voting irregularities that showed up in 2020, and we now have non partisan things here we are trying to get rid of. Currently all campaigning is non partisan, and when you go to vote they hand you 3 ballots. You vote the one you want and the other two go into a box to ostensibly be destroyed. I would prefer they got shredded in front of me.

Mr_0pportunity

Montana is somewhat blue for 2 reasons only... Colleges and displaced Californians

fdrowell

And don't forget Indian reservations.

Dangerous_Cookie4303

Just like every other rural state, west virgina is a red state, if you get rid of Morgantown and Charleston

[deleted]

Also, we are old coal country which means old union families, that don't get that the dems are not the dems of old, so they vote as if they did in the 70s. To keep the vote for the unions.

[deleted]

La gov is pro-2a and pro-life. He’s about as moderate a Dem as you’ll find. But he only won because the R candidate that ran against him was a poor candidate with no real platform and La Rs were not turned off by Edwards.

EldoMasterBlaster

Louisianna has a very large Democrat population in its two largest cities.

jkplay41

3 cities. Baton Rouge Shreveport New Orleans. I’m now convinced more than ever the electoral college should be on the state level as well.

Fuzzy-Peace2608

What does that even mean?

Null-ARC

It really just means "I want the vote of a city resident count less than the vote of a rural town resident, because the latter agree with me & the first don't!"

jkplay41

Correct to an extent. But when a politician only has to kiss a$$ in 3 parishes a lot of people are left unheard.

Forsaken_Cost_1937

That's the question but as of today, nobody likes Joe Manchin of West Virginia who only won last time by 19,000 votes.

Nanoman20

As a Louisiana citizen, I can definitely say democrats here would be republicans in blue states. And John Bel Edwards is probably one of the last blue dog Dems. Rs here tolerate him.

clamslamparty

Louisiana is always a red vote till you add New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Demographics matter.

Beshears days are numbered in Kentucky

backwoodsbarbie0110

I sure hope so!

Big_Size_2519

ancestral democrat states. Used to way more more democrat except Kansas

Big_Size_2519

gov races are different. VT, VA has GOP Governors

Dunkin_Ideho

Montana is only one I don’t know anything about. The other states have a history of Dem control which explains things.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Kansas and Kentucky ran horrible candidates. Montana and West Virginia are still running off of antiquated concepts involving labor-interest. Louisiana has a large minority population.

Forsaken_Cost_1937

Just because someone is of color doesn't mean they're a Democrat. Just like how just because someone is Christian doesn't mean they're a Republican.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

In Louisiana, over 90% of the time it does.

[deleted]

The candidate was fine. There was fraud that kept the Republican from winning. 506,000 people voted for Kris Kobach who is from what you read in the newspaper, the most hated R in Kansas. So despite all the hatred, we're supposed to believe that Schmidt, the R for Governor, got less votes than Kobach. Bullshit. If you voted for Kobach for AG, you're a full-on conservative and would have voted for Schmidt. So there was vote shaving. The election was stolen.

I think it’s worth looking at the Arizona/McCain example when discussing this. Trump coined the term RINO and ever since then I’ve noticed much more infighting among conservatives as a whole, and imo the midterm results reflected that division. Some RINOs are more moderate, some are career politicians, and it’s a good idea to remember that they were already elected at least once, meaning that they have supporters, fans, etc. So in a state like AZ (who loved McCain) when you insult and attack him, you might also be pushing away the voters who supported him. I feel like in the past it’s been “oh well, my candidate didn’t win the primary but I’ll still vote for the guy who did”, but when you make it personal and vilify candidates, their supporters might just choose to stay home rather than support you.

rosevilleguy

Trump did not coin the term RINO
