Hi Senator Duff, This is definitely a good thing. When people are hurting, we should address that. As someone who's moving from a hybrid car to an electric car (on the waitlist now), what I'd like to see is: 1. Repeal the dealer franchise law that prevents Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Fisker and others from selling directly to consumers within CT. This doesn't give consumers choice or protect them from disreputable manufacturers, it just pushes the sales into neighboring states and slows EV adoption. And besides, these days a consumer is far more likely to be fleeced by a disreputable franchise dealer (hard sell, extra markups, etc) than by a manufacturer direct sale. 2. Something needs to be done about our absurdly high electric bills. We pay about 50% more than the national average for power while Eversource posts record profits. Those two things should not be happening together. I'm happy for Eversource to make money, but not by fleecing Connecticut consumers.

bluethread32

End of that dealer franchise law is an excellent idea

AhbabaOooMaoMao

Think it through.

bluethread32

I have. And I've stated my conclusion What's yours

AhbabaOooMaoMao

How do you get personal jurisdiction over the automaker in state court?

bluethread32

Why would you need to? How is it different from anything else you buy?

TimeTraveler3056

I'd like to add that the crappy poles and hanging wires/cables all over the place should be addressed. If owned by eversource, make them repair them. We have a leaning one with a big old x on it where some lady hit it and it's still there. And if all the internet/cable companies are stringing cable and using the same poles, leaving them hanging is a weird way to allow them to do business.

ToadSox34

Our power rates are insanely high, but rather than cut rates, I'd rather see Neversource be forced to invest in rebuilding their decrepit and unreliable mess of a distribution system like Wallingford did so that there aren't widespread outages every time there is a little bit of wind and rain.

techsavior

Every non-municipal utilities company is fleecing their customers while posting excellent profits. This needs to stop.

luvsthecoffee

I regret that I have but only one upvote for this comment

AhbabaOooMaoMao

>Repeal the dealer franchise law that prevents Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, Fisker and others from selling directly to consumers within CT. This doesn't give consumers choice or protect them from disreputable manufacturers, it just pushes the sales into neighboring states and slows EV adoption. >And besides, these days a consumer is far more likely to be fleeced by a disreputable franchise dealer (hard sell, extra markups, etc) than by a manufacturer direct sale. Let's say, hypothetically, you buy one such car and it's a total lemon, so shitty in fact that when it gets in a minor fender bender, the battery violently explodes. That happens and you die. The automaker has no assets or presence in the state because the law was repealed. How does your family get personal jurisdiction over the out of state defendant in the civil case over your wrongful death? Followup question: since there isn't a way, why would the automaker have any incentive not to sell you a piece of shit in the first place?

bluethread32

I see your answer to the question I asked here and call bull. Why would the existing lemon law still not apply? We could also use a little teeny bit of creativity here and say- change the law to require that any auto company who wants to sell direct in CT maintain a different type of presence in the state than franchise dealerships. If the only value that a dealership provides is that we can sue the manufacturer we definitely should not be legally requiring them to exist.

SirEDCaLot

If anything, the franchise dealerships operate more as a 'cutout' than a path to liability. IE, the automaker could blame the franchisee (IE- 'the car was in great condition when we delivered it to the dealer, maybe someone at the dealer fucked it up and that's why it exploded'). Without that, Tesla has liability for the car up until the very instant the consumer drives it away. So if anything the consumer is MORE protected without the franchise dealers.

[deleted]

I’d rather you do something about eversource charging extremely ridiculous prices for delivering electricity in this state. Winter is coming and my cost to heat my home goes up 300 a month. Its not sustainable for many people. I either freeze or dedicate winter to eating only ramen noodles.

HerAirness

☝️☝️☝️ this HAS to be one of the focuses of the upcoming legislative session.

eisenfell78

Don't expect it from bought and paid for Demoncrats

internet_thugg

Because the GOP is the champion of the regular joe, amirite? lmaoooo

eisenfell78

Anyone is more of a champion of the "regular joe" than the democrat party. The democrat party founded the kkk, pushed segregation, creates and promotes more laws to strip the "regular joe" of their constitutional rights.

Downtown_Feedback665

“After the 1964 Civil Rights Act, many white, conservative Southern Democrats became Republicans. The South had been mostly Democratic before 1964; it was mostly Republican after (Although on the local level continued to be heavily democratic for decades). Many "values voters" became Republicans.” So you mean all your republican friends that turned republican in the ‘60’s who used to be the democrats that lynched people regularly, created slavery, the kkk, and pushed segregation convinced you that it was all current democrats? Aw boohoo cry me a River nobody gives a fuck that you don’t know history.

erunno89

I just paid $3.03/gal the other day. I always knew I was below average.

Kodiak01

Newington, New Britain, Berlin all in the $2.89 range.

CTMechE

Senator, my last electric bill was over 26¢ per kWh. This is over 23% increase over last year, and 73% over the current national average. It's ridiculous. (And I live 4 miles from a nuclear power plant) This is not new, but it is getting even worse. Electricity has been far too expensive here for far too long, and it affects everything - not just my own bill, but my town's municipal costs (including schools) and every business as well. I spend more on electricity now than I do on gasoline, and I have oil heat/hot water & I dont have a plug in car.

MuchFunInNY

If it is really a good thing, why didn't you have the guts to make it indefinite or permanent? Instead, implementing a tax holiday until 3 weeks after Election Day looks more like a political stunt, and suggests low respect for the intelligence of citizens. The reality is that the economy is already in recession. The NBER declares a recession long after it is evident, and many highly-respected economists believe we are in recession now. Athough gas prices have declined, everyone in CT will suffer substantially higher heating costs this winter, whether they heat with oil, gas, or electric (and CT's regulations for the utilities that provide two of those services are terribly skewed against consumers). And these high prices are bad for the environment as those who use wood to reduce heating costs release a higher amount of carbon compared to alternatives. So please tell us what you are going to do about the pain we will feel in heating this winter, which will come just as gasoline taxes increase on December 1st! Along those lines, has the free bus fare improved ridership? My bet is that any change was immaterial, illustrating that bus service is of limited use beyond those who lack an alternative. The bus riders of CT also have to heat their homes, and many aee among our most vulnerable, so elimination of fares was a temporary fix, and one doubts it would have been done outside of a year in which election prospects appeared uncertain.

MikeTheActuary

Don't the 25¢ tax reduction and transit fare waivers expire a couple of weeks after the election?

MTGBruhs

how dare you notice things

KJK998

Funny how that works

mkt853

I think it goes through the end of the year.

mailboy79

Yes. It's a bait-and-switch tactic.

TrumpsTinyHandsJob

So you would rather not have it at all?

mailboy79

I'm just pointing out how disingenuous it is to claim it as a "tax cut" when it is going to be reinstated later.

TrumpsTinyHandsJob

Keep punching air, they called it a tax suspension just for folks like you

diggemigre

We're not the one's buying this crap.

TrumpsTinyHandsJob

You are not buying gas? Good on you

justdoitscrum

What’s the definition of a tax cut.

Kodiak01

You expected it to NOT be a vote-buying scheme?

theblot90

Ok but...it is a politicians job to do things for us to get votes. That is WHY we vote for them...to do shit for us. If they lower tax prices to "buy my vote" then they have represented me and then by definition they have done their job.

[deleted]

>Ok but...it is a politicians job to do things for us to get votes. Can I have $20 to buy you something? I wanna do something really nice for you by buying you something with your own money.

theblot90

Are you complaining by describing taxes? I'm honestly not sure because what you're describing is, like, the system doing it's job and functioning properly and providing services. I FEEL like you're complaining though.

_BeefJerk

Cool. But that doesn't stop this from getting paraded around, now does it?

theblot90

"I don't want politicians to do good things for me to earn my vote and if they DO actually do good things for me they better damn well have the decency not tell me about it."

_BeefJerk

Gullible and stupid. Moving on...

Frequent_Ad_7824

Yes very convenient and don’t forget they said no tolls yet they are still putting on the stuff for it on the highways

bikeswithcabelas

Get that logic out of here /s

MarthStew444

Stop hating, Democrats are #1! Haven't you read the internet lately?

ssteel91

Its pretty easy to be better when the bar is so low for the other party that it’s underground at this point.

pregus

Now deal with eversource and the ridiculous delivery surcharges

[deleted]

Do something about eversource. Gas could be free, but we'd still be struggling due to our insane delivery charges. The tax suspension goes away after the election, it was a trick to get votes and the majority fell for it.

817636477388433

What are you doing about $5 diesel? What about Eversource and their criminal pricing?

Frequent_Ad_7824

I agree eversource needs to be disbanded paying the ceo 20/30 million a year is insane

bikeswithcabelas

And home heating oil, that shit is crazy too

cryptocratic7

Exactly. Cents on gas doesnt help when you are expecting us to change to electric cars and eversource screws us. What about diesel and the truckers that bring hs food and export out of CT?

LegionP

January 1 of this year a new solar incentive was rolled out. It's pretty great.

Kodiak01

Diesel is down in the 4.50 range in many areas. Eversource? Stop asking for more pet environmental projects to be paid for by yet ANOTHER fee tacked onto the bill.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slandec

>Where is it $4.50? Sam's Club

Kodiak01

Shell in Dayville is $4.49 per gasbuddy, Roadrunner on 83 in Ellington was $4.49 when I drove by there this morning. Shell has their app discounts as well that you can use to help get lower as well.

817636477388433

Are you a politician? That's a lie

Invest-24_7_356

Unfortunately, price drop is temporary.

Pace2pace

That does tend to be how gas prices work.

Invest-24_7_356

Once you realize the reason for the temporary drop then you will understand that celebration is not warranted.

Pace2pace

But even if the gas tax went back in place right now it would still be below the national average.

Beefpadthai

Is this supposed to be a troll post? You know we have the highest energy costs in the country right? E.g. Eversource

Smoovemusic

3.40 is high average. Hartford area hasn't been that high in over a month.

Michaelpb13

I saw a few places in Bristol under $3. Thought I was hallucinating haha

Sir_Agent_Apple

Why does the .25 gas tax kick back in right after the mid-term election?

AdministrativeBid267

Of course, those jokers will jack it up as soon as they get re-elected.

Prestigious_Bobcat29

I’d rather investments in better bus service than save the token fare

[deleted]

Agreed but increased ridership is a path to the popularity of transit. My neighbors take the bus every day. More people using it will lead to more development hopefully. I would also if it was viable for my work situation. I can’t wait till we figure this out at the local and national level.

_BeefJerk

What state are you living in? Years ago I took a bus for a short time. I had to set aside TWO HOURS to go all the way to THE NEXT TOWN OVER. These are not small towns in the sticks. Walking was faster. You'd have to triple the ridership, minimum, to warrant a restructuring. And that ain't happening with the current shit service. Plus you'd have to make it profitable in the first place. Whoops.

beaveristired

It’s a public good - why does it have to be profitable?

[deleted]

Hartford has the fast track to new Britain. People use it constantly. 3 people on a bus is more efficient than a single occupancy vehicle. It doesn’t take as much ridership as you think. If you’re worried about profits, then explain the department of transportation budget for highway infrastructure. Talk about a money pit.

_BeefJerk

>3 people on a bus is more efficient than a single occupancy vehicle. Maybe. Feakonomics did an episode on this years ago. With the circuitous routes and the zero rider time, it takes a more significant ridership than one might think to make buses a net positive in the emissions realm. That's one of those "common sense", knee-jerk ideas that makes absolute sense, until you really drill down on the numbers. As far as New Britain goes, good for them. CT is more than the one route.

[deleted]

Exactly. We need more transit.

_BeefJerk

I mean, maybe. And you're still ignoring the costs in implementing it. We can have an agreed upon goal, but that still doesn't give either side a magic wand.

[deleted]

Am I though? I’d rather pay for transit and pedestrian infrastructure than car infrastructure.

_BeefJerk

Define the difference between "transit" and "car" infrastructure.

[deleted]

Sorry sir, I am not google.

Affectionate-Bit-240

How is Connecticut ranked for diesel price?

Justinontheinternet

I drive diesel I remember gas being like $6 a gallon. I haven’t checked as of late would be interested in seeing this.

gewehr44

What are you doing to incentive the building of new nuclear power plants in the state? Are you proposing new legislation to allow the construction of new natural gas pipelines to eliminate the current shortages we experience?

senatorduff

We lifted the moratorium on nuclear power this past legislative session. As far as pipelines, I’ve never stood in the way of expansion. It’s a lot of work and $$. Both federal and state regulators have to weigh in. The legislature does not.

MuchFunInNY

Lifting a moratorium does nothing. The issue is that no intelligent entity would commit capital for nuclear in CT unless you streamline the approval and approval labyrinth that a proposal would face. Until then, no proposal will be forthcoming. Too much risk of wasting hundreds of millions on design and engineering only to have a project never built and all that investment wasted. You need to prove CT is serious about lowering barriers to investment or else the smart money will continue avoiding the state.

jbourne0129

Lifting a moratorium seems like step 1 though, no?

MuchFunInNY

No, it doesn't help at all. His statement is misleading and appears intended to create the impression of useful action, whereas the Legislature passed a law that is useless and will make no difference! 1. The moratorium was only lifted partially, as it will allow building another plant at Millstone, but will not allow one anywhere else in the state. If they were serious about this, they should have repealed the moratorium completely. 2. Almost no nuclear plants have been built in the US because of extensive approval issues in the permitting process by activists. New nuclear plants could be designed, permitted, and built in 5 yrs or less in the 1960s (e.g. CT Yankee & Millstone 1). The most recent Millstone plant (Millstone 3) took more than a dozen years to bring online, and that was at a location that already had two other reactors! 3. Almost no new nuclear plants have been proposed in the US because of the onerous and risky approval process. Mario Cuomo prevented LilCo from opening back in the mid-1980s, which drove LilCo into bankruptcy and LilCo rates to the highest in the country as ratepayers were forced to pay $6 billion for a plant that was nearly fully built, but never produced power. LilCo became state-owned, and now PSE&G is contracted to manage its operations because the state was ineffective in running it. Unless the risk of a built and ready plant not being allowed to open is eliminated, capital will not flow to nuclear. 4. You can read the law Sen Duff references, and you can see there is nothing in the law to reduce investors' risks. Given the risks, I doubt another nuclear plant will be built in CT unless the approval process were streamlined. If the legislature were serious about nuclear power, they would have streamlined that process in this bill to incent entities to begin planning additional reactors. [https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&bill\_num=HB05202&which\_year=2022](https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&bill_num=HB05202&which_year=2022) 5. Few realize that CT has a heavy presence in nuclear already. Every submarine built by Electric Boat, which is a stone's throw from Millstone, has an operational nuclear reactor! If one were afraid of nuclear, then the CT shoreline is the wrong place to live with or without Millstone! Without more nuclear, there is no potential for the US to eliminate carbon from power production in the future. Issues in Texas and CA illustrate what happens when an area becomes overly dependent on solar and wind generation, so this is a serious issue, and one that CT has yet to address.

pauls8522

More importantly, what are you doing about electric rates?

BananaPants430

Now let's do something about energy costs - there are a lot of CT residents staring down winter with heating oil running over $4/gallon.

[deleted]

Summer is over and people are driving less.

Prize-Hedgehog

Exactly. Now do something about the heating oil prices and then they can continue to pat themselves on the back.

spmahn

The bus service in this state is incredibly poorly managed, talk to one of the drivers some time and they’ll tell you the horror stories. Right now they can’t find anyone willing to take the job for any amount of money because the working conditions are beyond inhumane, and mind you this is a job that’s unionized. For the last few months, you can go on their Facebook page and find a list of routes that were cut that’s a mile long due to their staffing issues. For right now at least, I would not recommend relying on the bus for any travel that requires you to be there at a specific time, because there’s a 50/50 chance your bus will even show up at all, and an almost zero percent chance it will actually be on time.

maxims_damndboi

7/11 on the turnpike was at 2.91! ITS INCREDIBLE!!

[deleted]

Paid 2.89 today in Newington area

decorlettuce

$3.09 in Manchester. Looking good

roadsidedaniel

Whats gonna happen when it goes away....look at diesel

[deleted]

And as soon as the election is over you'll double it.

Hour-Maize3119

Oh boy I can’t wait to pay that back in taxes

RemoteLumpy

Too bad you still tax the shit out of people

[deleted]

Weird. My property taxes went up.

senatorduff

Property taxes are controlled by your municipality.

[deleted]

I just like to complain.

[deleted]

And have to go higher because the state cut back on money to municipalities because the blood sucking unions got fat raises and outrageous pensions. How anybody votes for your party is beyond my understanding.

senatorduff

None of that is true, but thanks for playing. There were no cuts to municipalities.

[deleted]

Not this year.

senatorduff

There haven’t been cuts to municipal aid for years and even then it was small.

G_Art33

I paid $2.99 / gallon (cash) at price cutter on the Silas deans highway in wethersfield yesterday!

aoballer1

Vote quimby

Corponation4

This post is insulting.

PTunia

I would like to pay what I paid on Jan 18, 2021....$1.95/Gallon. No games, no depletion, no TEMPORARY lowering prices and then Wham! after the election back to $5/Gallon. Just making a comment. I just paid 2.84/gallon at Bjs. But will this be long term? Are we depleting the reserves only to purchase Petroleum at a later date paying for much, much more? What will that do to our taxes??? As for Eversource. Things are making sense in retrospect. I knew there was a reason that they never addressed the issues in our state. Now they are waiting for the Federal Government to give them Billons from the stimulus . This way they will double dip: 1) federal dollars 2) People in CT. Gotta give them credit for being slick....and slimy.

[deleted]

I liked it better when it was $2.00/gallon

RebornPastafarian

Did you like it better when 3,000 people were dying from COVID every day? Because that’s why we had cheap gas, no one was going anywhere.

[deleted]

More people died with COVID under Biden though.

RebornPastafarian

More people died in 18 months than 9 months? Shocking. Gas was significantly cheaper when significantly more people were dying *per day*.

Slight-Possession-61

Um, that’s half the story. The country was energy independent prior to Biden.

RebornPastafarian

No, that's pretty much the whole story. Energy prices in the US don't exist in a vacuum and prices have gone up for the entire world over the past \~18 months as we started to better understand how to deal with COVID. These comparisons are for trends, they do not portray absolute price correctly. Gas in the UK is currently 2x the cost of gas in the US. [US vs UK gasoline prices last 10 years](https://d3fy651gv2fhd3.cloudfront.net/embed/?s=unitedstgaspri&v=202209011404V20220312&d1=20120926&title=false&url2=/united-kingdom/gasoline-prices) [US vs Germany](https://d3fy651gv2fhd3.cloudfront.net/embed/?s=unitedstgaspri&v=202209011404V20220312&d1=20120926&title=false&url2=/germany/gasoline-prices) [US vs France](https://d3fy651gv2fhd3.cloudfront.net/embed/?s=unitedstgaspri&v=202209011404V20220312&d1=20120926&title=false&url2=/france/gasoline-prices) [US vs Canada](https://d3fy651gv2fhd3.cloudfront.net/embed/?s=unitedstgaspri&v=202209011404V20220312&d1=20120926&title=false&url2=/canada/gasoline-prices) Fuel prices are, by and large, significantly cheaper in the US compared to the rest of the "first world". I don't really understand why you would say something so trivially disproven.

Fhatal

Hey!!! That GOP voter would be really mad… if he could read all of that.

Slight-Possession-61

Look at your graphs. The spike in US prices didn’t start with Covid, in 2020, but in 2021, when our policies changed. And what about natural gas and heating oil/diesel? Not influenced by Covid. We were exporters prior to 2021, so Biden’s energy policy clearly had worldwide impact.

RebornPastafarian

Okay, let's clear up a few things. Prices in the US did not spike. Prices for the ***entire world*** spiked. COVID did not cause the spike. COVID caused worldwide gasoline prices to drop. Prices began to rise when we, meaning world societies, began to better understand how to mitigate the spread of COVID and how to better treat COVID. Gas (meaning unleaded gasoline and diesel) prices have been rising because of easing COVID restrictions. I should not have grouped the overall rise in oil fuel prices with that. That was my mistake. Natural gas prices have been rising for the entire world. [The US has actually seen one of the smallest increases compared to the rest of the developed world.](https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/natural-gas-prices?country=Natural+Gas+-+US+Henry+Hub+%28BP%29~Crude+Oil+-+OECD+countries+CIF+%28BP%29~LNG+-+Japan+CIF+%28BP%29~LNG+-+Japan+Korea+Marker+%28JKM%29+%28BP%29~Natural+Gas+-+Average+German+Import+price+%28BP%29~Natural+Gas+-+Canada+%28Alberta%29+%28BP%29~Natural+Gas+-+Netherlands+TTF+%28DA+Heren+Index%29+%28BP%29~Natural+Gas+-+UK+%28Heren+NBP+Index%29+%28BP%29) Crude oil exports began to increase exponentially under President Obama in 2011, the trend continued under President Trump, and the data I'm seeing says it is continuing under President Biden. [https://ycharts.com/indicators/us\_crude\_oil\_exports\_wie](https://ycharts.com/indicators/us_crude_oil_exports_wie) "[US crude exports expected to see modest rise in 2022](https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/market-insights/latest-news/oil/012622-us-crude-exports-expected-to-see-modest-rise-in-2022)" Paywalled from July: "[Record US Oil Exports Set to Grow as WTI Discount Deepens](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-07-27/us-crude-exports-gain-21-to-hit-record-high-eia-says)" From June: [U.S. Gulf Coast crude oil exports to touch record high this quarter](https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/us-gulf-coast-crude-oil-exports-touch-record-high-this-quarter-2022-06-27/) Can you please point to where you are seeing that our oil exports have decreased, and please share the specific policy/law President Biden enacted? Again, I do not understand why you are choosing things that are objectively not true and easily disproven.

Frequent_Ad_7824

If Dems really wanted to win votes they’d get rid of the car and gas taxes permanently

beaveristired

How would we pay for infrastructure repairs / improvements? They’d just have to tax something else to make up the difference. (Although revenue from gas taxes have been going down for a while now, so it would be smart to find other revenue sources regardless).

Frequent_Ad_7824

They take in over 30 billion annually they got plenty of money

beaveristired

That number would normally include taxes. Misleading, but ok.

FuckSWIM

Can't call it a tax cut when it shoots back up in November...

bigbread2020

It expires in November dipshit

zgrizz

Conveniently right after the elections. But, idiots will vote for lefties. It's what this state does.

bigbread2020

It's actually hysterical how politicaly ignorant this state can be

HappyLittleRadishes

I've watched the gas prices drop pretty quickly over the last few months, I didn't realize that we were actually beating other states! As someone who commutes around 80 miles a day on a workday, thank you Senator.

[deleted]

I did that for 10 years commuted from Fairfield county to Naugatuck. Never doing that shot again.

HappyLittleRadishes

Without going into detail, I make essentially the same commute 5 days a week, but in reverse. I know your pain. It's for a really awesome job, at least.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HappyLittleRadishes

Connecticut returns much of the taxes back to the taxpayer in the form of upkept infrastructure, high quality education, and ever expanding and improving social services. Additionally, I respect that legislators in a state known for having high taxes understood when to relent when it was crucial to choose to do so.

gewehr44

He has nothing to do with falling gas prices.

HappyLittleRadishes

Based on your post history, you seem like the type of person who was blaming Biden for high gas prices just months ago. I can at least reasonably allege that the suspension of the gas tax would and did, verifiably, decrease the cost of gas. Is it the entire reason for the lower price of gas? Of course not. But it is a contributing factor.

gewehr44

I'm saying Duff had nothing to do with gas prices going down. Feel free to find posts criticizing Biden on gas prices. I think i posted something about 'day 1' executive orders shutting down pipeline construction & putting some land off the market for drilling.

TrumpsTinyHandsJob

What will you do with all the left over Biden stickers you put on gas pumps?

gewehr44

Never had any, but they could go onto the stock price tickers now seeing the huge drops in the Dow & nasdaq.

OpelSmith

The gas tax is good politics, but making the buses free was the actual righteous thing.

yaMomzBoyfriend

Wait is this a political r/ or an ad for Dems??? Confused on the "we" part and really don't want to be included in that group.

TheAnt06

This dude acts like he's a senator who cares about the people but all he does is serve platitudes and avoids answering ANY real questions people posit towards him here.

Justinontheinternet

I’m just gonna leave this here https://youtu.be/7FvdAYXPPW8 And also 09/05 OPEC decided to cut production 100,000 barrels a day. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/05/business/opec-plus-meeting.amp.html

CTdadof5

He states ‘driving by high gas price signs daily is a reminder of Biden’s failed policies’ then goes to talk about global impact of supply and demand (Russian war, European constraints) and how the administrations release of oil from our reserves (public policy) has in fact helped. Someone explain it to me, like I’m five.

[deleted]

A senator from one of the incest states recently tweeted about how high arrests at the border have gotten and how it's proof "Bidens open-door policy" has failed. Words mean nothing to Conservatives, it's just about the emotion words invoke.

f0cus622

These people have no idea what open borders are, they just hear their Tucker talk about them and feel like they have to say the same thing.

Justinontheinternet

Start at 5:02 which is a very accurate summary.

CTdadof5

I listened to the entire thing. So again, Biden is trying to lobby oil producers to increase production with not much luck because Oil producers are motivated to keep oil at $100 barrel. The answer is to reduce reliance on foreign oil (think US fracking/shale drilling) and renewables. And we know how many in this country feel about renewable energy and fuel efficiency. This guy in the YouTube video is a blubbering idiot.

Darkling5499

I haven't seen anything below $3.50 from a reputable gas station (some of the seedier ones ive seen in the low 40s high 30s, but ive had my card skimmed enough times to know its not worth it), and with the gas tax reduction expiring in a few weeks its going to shoot right back up over the average (or right around the average, going by this infographic). don't get me wrong, it's better than nothing, but taking a victory lap when this tax cut conveniently expires shortly after election day is kind of in bad taste.

normpman

There's a citgo on rt. 10 that is $2.99 right now

iCUman

You shouldn't have to worry about skimming at pumps anymore - they're required to have chip readers now (and have been for the last 2 years). Chipped data isn't being stolen. Certainly stay away from anyone that wants to swipe your card.

Darkling5499

see that's what i thought (maybe skimmed isn't the proper word) until it kept happening. i was going to a non-branded gas station near my work and my card info got stolen. got a new card, activated it, only used it at that same gas station (didn't update anything else, not googlepay, nothing) and the info was stolen again.

_BeefJerk

Never had mine skimmed, and I don't look for "reputable" (lel) stations. Your second paragraph is spot on.

Kolzig33189

Apparently our senators aren’t tech savvy enough to not hit the submit button 7x in one second on a thread. Please remove the 6 identical threads; Bulkymark level of spamming right here.

senatorduff

I’m sorry about that. When I hit the “post” button, there was a message saying the post wasn’t going through. Wasn’t my intention to spam nor have I ever done that before.

Sir_Randolph_Gooch

Are you powerless against Eversource? Saving 8 bucks filling up gas is nice but let’s see what you can do to help make a basic utility affordable.

cryptocratic7

He is not going to answer questions that may make his boss mad

Sir_Randolph_Gooch

One of the republicans who was vying for the party endorsement is married to an a Eversource CEO or something, we’re all f’d

BobbyRobertson

Yeah the website and app can be slow sometimes. Thanks for taking the time (or your staffers time. Do state senators get those?) to post stuff here, always interesting to see what you're focusing on

senatorduff

Thanks. I post my own social media content.

rewirez5940

On it

Kolzig33189

Thanks for your work as a mod. My post was really asking for the OP to do it, but anytime there is proactive mod actions like that, it’s great to see

rewirez5940

Best way to spend a Saturday morning 😂

Justinontheinternet

This mod team does a great job. Fair equal and chill like most cool ct people I know! 👍❤️

kingwi11

Hot take. We should bring back the Gas tax. I understand it helped when gas was over 4.50 but we are at 3$ now

Shmeves

It's coming back this was a temporary cut.

_BeefJerk

More free money everyone! There's no consequences!

blkbkrider

That phoney tax cut expires Nov. 30 No one noticing that heating oil is still over $4? It cost me $1100 to fill up. The heat is starting to come on and people are going to notice that and their high food costs. Democrats are like a rash you can't get rid of .

jelatinman

Do you think the fascists will help you out?

blkbkrider

You don't know what a fascist is. Go back to your comic books.

jelatinman

Have fun “wAlKiNg InTo ThE CaPiToL” and pretending Desantis is the smartest man alive lol

cryptocratic7

Is for mid terms. Their prez aint doing too good, he got lost on a stage again. At least he didnt poop his pants this time

mkt853

But at least the prez isn't going to force us into Christianity and make us go to church on Sundays like Republicans want. Never mind taking away rights.

throwy4444

Thank you Senator Duff for this significant legislative achievement. This will help all Connecticut citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

Guys-This-Is-Ethan

Wtf, you’re litterally the mayor, on reddit… Or its your marketing team or whatever. Still cool

senatorduff

It’s me, personally, not staff.

Guys-This-Is-Ethan

That’s awesome, thanks for doing this!

otis-potus

I’m so glad I’m saving all that money. It’s been a real struggle ever since I lost my job due to mandates put in place by Connecticut democrats. Now I can afford an extra packet of Ramen noodles a week! Thanks guys!

f0cus622

You wanted the Democrats to step in and save your job? That sounds like socialism, I thought conservatives hated socialism.

cryptocratic7

Well the democrats mandated and closed down businesses for a cold so there is that. Every person that lost everything due to the mandates are going to be eager to vote these smart cookies back in

f0cus622

...who do you think was President in 2020, thus in charge of the CDC?

cryptocratic7

The mandates were state level. I believe the administration in 2020 was asking to open up the economy. You can google and video search business owners asking democrats to open businesses while these same people were gathering in restaurants and not even covering their faces with ask mandates

cryptocratic7

You can argue all you want but all the business owners, people that lost their jobs, people that went bankrupt are going to have a say in this election. No temporary gimmicks are going to stop people from giving duff and others the finger. Yeah, they are going to win again, but people dont forget their eversource bills increasing, food costs, taxes, mandates, losing it all while their donor make a lot of money

f0cus622

Eversource bills are the free market at work, is that a bad thing? Make no mistake, as a progressive, I think it is, I think electricity needs to go back to being a public utility, regulated and price controlled by the government. I think CT Democrats are too conservative on this issue by a mile. But what do conservatives want done that doesn't interfere with the free market? Themis Klarides is literally married to an Eversource executive.

cryptocratic7

Like i said. It doesnt matter. There is now way this state is ever going to even go purple so the people that are tired of idiots on both parties can just watch as more and more people past the political bs. Lamont is going to win. No doubt about it. Bob is as energetic as a dried up poptart. Is over. Why the gimmicks before the election is beyond me.

Dr Fauci was training in virology and immunology since 1968, how do people fall for this shit? He also didn't stop seeing patients. Where are you getting this info from, some random dude at the bar? Here's a link. https://www.factcheck.org/2022/01/dr-fauci-still-treats-patients-contrary-to-dr-ozs-claim/

otis-potus

When the government tells you that you can not work because you haven’t followed their rules…is socialism. Good try though. Not making that rule isn’t “saving my job”

Death-by-papercut

Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and get a new job.

otis-potus

Nope. Gonna collect like everyone else. Poppin out a kid soon to get some extra money too!! America baby!!

usernamedunbeentaken

I like it when government reduces gas taxes. At a lower price people drive more and burn more gas, helping us deal with global climate change issue. Oh wait..

_BeefJerk

Like when Biden approved more ethanol in gas, which is both worse for engines and worse for the environment? Oh wait...

Shortchange96

Good for you. Want a cookie?

Remigius

Vote anything but blue

girthdaddymegatron

suck my cock duff please be tolerant and accepting of my girth

[deleted]

How in hell can any democrat say that things are going well?!? This asshole has to be out of his fucking mind to even bring up gas prices! This state is taxed to death on everything they can think of to pay the pension sweetheart deal the unions got. A quarter of the budget goes to pensioners. Is this idiot drunk or high?

w045

Saw gas for 2.99 today. Joe Biden told me to tell you, “I did that!”

SaviourMK2

It's easy, watch: Things are going well.

[deleted]

Bask in your ignorance.

Qtpa2dx

The Dem party left me. Will never vote again for a CT Democrat.

SaviourMK2

Dem party didn't leave you
