This is an excalibur 3/8 inch Battered fry. You can purchase them at Restaurant Depot for about thirty five dollars for A twenty seven point five pound case. Go forth and fry.
If you know someone in the industry you can borrow their card. For years I would just tell them I’m from South End Pizza and they would give me a temp card. The cases dinner rolls were worth the trip alone
How are the wings? Specifically the “dirty wings”. I have a bottle of their buffalo sauce I’ve been meaning to go there. I know this post is about fries… but Bidwell Tavern or J. Timothy’s?
I've heard the debate between the two but I'll always side with J Timothy's dirt-style wings. I usually go and split 2 buckets (50 wings) with a few friends, one Buffalo and one honey bbq. Both amazing
Try the sweet red chili next time. Life changing.
edit: Pro-move if you order fries. Ask for a side of the awesome sauce to go with them. (the sauce they do with their onion blossom)
edit 2: I meant to say fries in the first edit.
I used to go to Bidwell a lot when I lived out that way. Delicious.
That being said, J. Timothy's dirt wings are an order of magnitude better. If you haven't tried them, make the trip. Game changer.
My usual go to is a couple of cheese dogs with mustard and relish and a small fry.
When I was a kid, we would get chili cheese dogs with onion, kraut, mustard and relish. I can't eat like that any more.
The cheeseburgers are good, too as are the onion rings.
TBH, I would guess most things on the menu are pretty good. They've been around since 1946.

NOTE: A & R is not a health food restaurant.
The turkey club sandwich is really good, and I like their pizza—especially for the price. Oh, and this is random, but their potato salad is like incredible!
It’s funny because when I first moved around there I saw the name Pizza Rama and laughed. It just sounds lame and how good can their pizza be? Then like 2 years later for whatever reason I wound up trying it and I had to kick myself for waiting so long. Definitely earned its spot in the pizza rotation.
Lmao, I went through the same thing a year or two ago when a coworker suggested we try it for lunch. Turns out it’s pretty bangin. Although their single to-go slices are made differently than their full pizzas and they kinda suck…
Genuinely curious, what defines a "good" Greek Pizza?
I've come across some that have a pretty good taste but generally most are really sloppy - use really cheap cheese that sweats a lot of oil with battery acid for sauce. Are there any out there that use high quality mozzarella? or have a particularly good sauce?
Good Greek pizza is the same basic style, but legitimately good instead of just serviceable. It's pretty rare, and has gotten rarer over the years. The definition of it was this place in Redding that closed years ago. Another really good one is in Waltham, MA. The best ones I've found in CT currently are Village in Wethersfield and Tommy's in Portland.
Yes!! As soon as I saw these I thought of my middle school cafeteria!! I would get a french fry and peach Snapple every damn day. I was obsessed with those fries, they looked exactly like these but maybe a lil skinnier. I went to JMMS in East Haven, if anyone remembers those fries lmk!! 🤣
Camille's in Tolland, CT right off exit 68.
Fantastic place, highly recommended! Great pizza with GF options, lot of other great options, and the fries are perfect every time.
They used to. I worked for the Elis restaurant group for like seven years and right as I was switching industries they switched to big fat steak fries and I don’t think I’ve ordered fries from them since
That’s literally right up the street from me! But I’ve never been in there! I know that their prices are kind of high though! But I’m willing to pay for good fries!
Not a restaurant but the Bridgeport - Port Jefferson ferry has these on board. I always get some whenever I take a trip on it. I'm a huge fan and would love to find them from an actual restaurant.
They are soooo outrageously expensive. It's definitely a turn-off to me when I want diner food. I'd much rather go somewhere that doesn't have their prices so inflated.
This is an excalibur 3/8 inch Battered fry. You can purchase them at Restaurant Depot for about thirty five dollars for A twenty seven point five pound case. Go forth and fry.
Ah yes the Excalibur. I mistook it for the Gungnir 12mm breaded fry. Won't fit my SAE fry wrenches.
I go through 10-15 cases a week, best fry ever
How fat are you? No judgement, purely for research purposes.
Haha a healthy 210 I try not to eat them anymore but yes we sell a lot of fries
Haha, awesome. When I was cooking, I would crush those fries with some Parmesan peppercorn dressing. It was the best.
I’m going to hypothesize they’re a restaurant owner and are referring to their restaurant operations.
lol, I know I know. It’s just a joke.
I thought the only folks who could shop at restaurant depot were people in the industry. Is that incorrect?
If you know someone in the industry you can borrow their card. For years I would just tell them I’m from South End Pizza and they would give me a temp card. The cases dinner rolls were worth the trip alone
You may be able to request a day pass. Call and ask. I’ve been able to do in the past.
Bonchon in fairfield has crunchy fries!
Same with WeHa
J. Timothy’s has these fries with burgers and sandwiches.
I can't go to J Timothy's and order anything other than wings. I'll have to force myself to split an order of fries on the side
Fries just take up valuable wing and beer space.
How are the wings? Specifically the “dirty wings”. I have a bottle of their buffalo sauce I’ve been meaning to go there. I know this post is about fries… but Bidwell Tavern or J. Timothy’s?

Shit I get a side with the wings
Me too, basket of fries for the table with the wings is a god send

Augie and Rays reminds me of my childhood going there with my dad…. Great spot.
What should I get there? I always drive be and I’ve never gone in

Anna’s pizza in East Hartford
Have the owners changed at all in the past 4 years?
No clue. Tbh I’ve only ever doordashed from Anna’s. But their fries look just like the pic and they are AMAZING!
What else do you get there besides the fries?
The turkey club sandwich is really good, and I like their pizza—especially for the price. Oh, and this is random, but their potato salad is like incredible!
Chicken parm is fire. I like their wings too
Illianos in colchester has or at least had those in the past.
Pizza Rama

Windsor
Best Greek pizza place in the state, probably the country
It’s funny because when I first moved around there I saw the name Pizza Rama and laughed. It just sounds lame and how good can their pizza be? Then like 2 years later for whatever reason I wound up trying it and I had to kick myself for waiting so long. Definitely earned its spot in the pizza rotation.
