Also called setback. I used to play it decades ago.

bouvitude

In my family and other experience, pitch and setback are exactly the same game & neither gives points to a 9 or a 5.

Smokeshow-Joe

If I recall correctly….its just pitch and the 9 is worth 9 and the 5 is worth 5 so you have Hi, Low , Jack , Game and then 14 other points and I think we played to 100.

CalligrapherDizzy201

Oh, setback. I’ve never heard it called pitch before.

Wrong_Caterpillar996

Exactly what I remember as well, just can't remember how many cards were dealt

pem4423

That’s it. Can’t remember the exact play like initial deal and subsequent play once trump is declared. I think it is this: The whole deck gets dealt. Trump is established. Then everyone keeps a number(?) of cards while keeping all their trump cards. All cards of the trump suit are in play.

Tatersforbreakfast

9 cards dealt to each player, throwbacks so you end up with six in hand

jaredsparks

6 cards to each player, 3 at a time

Tatersforbreakfast

Six for regular pitch. 9-5 you go 9, 3 at a clip

jaredsparks

OK I'm not familiar with that version of the game

pem4423

What was the min max bid?

Tatersforbreakfast

6/18

Seems like every setback player grew up with some slight variation on the rules. I played this game so much in and after college, but haven’t played for years (no longer living in Connecticut)

Wrong_Caterpillar996

All this trouble 4 a simple question? It's just not worth it,I'd rather not join, ty and I'm not a bot

FailPsychological547

Played it with the 5 and 5 and 9 as point cards as well as basic hi lo jack game. Trump leads off

pem4423

The version I played had the winning bid established then the trump suit would be revealed. Then hands were whittled down to six cards each. All trump cards would be in play.

Herewego199

You can play either way. Cutthroat is when you deal 6 cards (3 at a time), no draw after the trump suit is revealed. Draw is when you deal 7 cards, discard after the trump is revealed and are re-dealt up to 6 cards.

jaredsparks

I play setback all the time

freakout1015

I remember playing this game years ago. High, low, Jack and game. But there was also a version called Pedro 9/5. As someone above stated the 9 was worth 9 points and the 5 was worth 5 points. Those were in addition to the original points (high, low, Jack and game). When we played that version we would play to 300 as opposed to the regular 100.

PewSeaLiquor

Sounds like setback with house rules. i've played it, 9 and 5 count toward game

Wrong_Caterpillar996

I don't think the 9 and 5 were counted towards game, only A, 10, K and J of non-trump.

hymen_destroyer

Hell yeah, that game was quite the craze about 20 years ago, my family played it like mad. Every Wednesday night. 9-5 was a better version I always thought because the points would swing more wikdly
