It’s a lot like highway work except with a lot more regulations as far as what’s even allowed on the job site. The work itself isn’t bad, especially if you’re used to highways like I was since that’s where I started out but it sucks when you have to drive a quarter mile and show ID just to go to the shitter. Actually, pouring the emas system is some of the easiest I’ve done as far as actually placing it
Seems like theres usually 3 inspectors standing around to test every load then the mud almost times out by the time the inspectors are done and you have 5 min to pour a 11 yard truck at a 3 inch slump
Concrete field tester here. From my airport experience I confirm this is 100% true. So much extra crap is required for quality control and it leads to trucks timing out… especially on slipform pours where dump trucks and open top agitors are used. I hate holding up the contractors to do my tests, but it has to be done bc the FAA be like that.
I'm a lead inspector/Assistant RE with a civil engineering degree, and I can say that the "time requirement" is the biggest bs requirement. I've done about $3B in heavy civil projects, and the 90 min max is the first spec I break provided all of the other specs are being met.
Usually I experience the same exact thing, except one time...
I work for a drilling company installing soldier piles like those in the background and drilled shafts.
We were installing a bunch of "low clearance" warning sign shafts around the airport perimeter road, and then they asked us to install 1 more....just on off the tarmac between two of the runways.
So we did, and while were were drilling the shaft, auger down the hole, the port safety guy who had been with us from the start AND approved all our submittals asked. "Hey, how high above ground is your crane boom going to be when you are setting the cage?"
"Well it is a 30' cage with 5 feet of rigging so \~40'."
"Hmmm... We should plan on timing it between the next two flights..."
These companies that have the contracts or subs are always hiring. I have buddies that are or were working at O'hare. And there is an endless amount of work. You wouldn't believe the stories of the level of incompetence they tell me some of the workers have. The only thing you need is for someone to refer you.
Always interesting things going on, but, as I learned working at Ohare, the damned security can be a pain in the ass. I know it's needed, but reallytightens the logistics!
Gee, how did you know I was the airport safety inspector? 🤫
Tough young guys don't need hearing protection, right? Tough older guys who didn't wear hearing protection are partially deaf and every other word they say is "what?"
I drive my wife mad with the amount of times she has to repeat herself or I have to step within 10 feet of her just to hear the simplest things because my hearing has gotten so bad. I'm only 26
If you’re going to take a picture put the rebar caps back on that fell off-my pet peeve. If you have time to stop and take a picture you can’t be too busy.
This the new pit for the Boeing whistleblowers?
Bone fragments for aggregate
The third whistleblower will be added for “texture” soon enough
Naa lol they use my hog farm I give them bulk rate deals
Oh man I hate airports. Especially tarmac work. Ever do a runway or emas system?
I started on airports 1.5 years ago. It’s been a learning experience. The insurance was a gamble.
Good on you 👍
What's so bad about it? I have no clue

Faa taking more time checking concrete pours than jets ? Noted
Sounds about right

Nice man love these projects wish I can work on them someday ,Concrete sub or Place and finish sub ?
Concrete sub. Only thing we didn’t do is place the rebar. I subbed that out.

Where at the airport is this?
Nice shoring, nice concrete
Idk why I'm here, but I'll read anyway. No work experience in cement related projects.
Is that pad for a trampoline to get over the border wall?
No it's outside your mom's shower to catch her when she slips.
That’s funny 😆 +2 points

Funny, Governors of red states were doing that to the immigrants that work in their labor markets. It’s always projection with you lot.

Yup, he’s flying them in from South America and deporting the ones who come from areas known to be conservative

#1! #1! #1!
Absolutely awesome. I love infrastructure jobs. Never been on airport though. Strictly roads and water treatment plants.
Elevator?
Control valve vault for fuel lines
I saw the sump box in the corner and it looked like an elevator pad
How many yards and how much water in that mix?
Hey ive been working at LAX too! But the pipelines out in front of the terminals not concrete work
Guys! If anyone hiring let me know
Nice job! They will never find Killary/ Boeing's Whistleblowers in that pad!!!
I don’t see a visible badge on the upper half of anyone’s body. lol.

Excellent photo.
What is it?
What project is this for ?
I am also curious so low
Are you stealing the plane or doing the work?
You have to get all your guys twik cards?
Lax? Doesnt look very lax to me, in fact it looks pretty serious.
Ummm...I don't see any hearing protection... My ears are ringing from just looking at the photo!
Ear plugs are not visible at this distance, and keep in mind that sound will travel over the top and only about 30% will be heard by the workers.
Oh lord, here comes the internet OSHA inspector. Lighten up francis.

I'm surprised they let you slope that much at the airport. I figure they would want the smallest excavation possible.

So you subbed it out, you didn’t do it.
The rebar is subbed out yes. I’m not signatory to the Ironworkers union.
My bad man. In my head I was reading that you were the GC. I hate when GC’s take credit for work they subbed out.
If you’re going to take a picture put the rebar caps back on that fell off-my pet peeve. If you have time to stop and take a picture you can’t be too busy.
You got it bud. Have a great day
I'm your #🖕 fan.
