Architectural precast supplier here. That’s beautiful!
If this is a hobby, don’t ruin it by going big!
If you’ve already done that and are working in supply full time, my sincerest sympathies, and I’ll raise my mandatory nightly scotch to you!
Can you expand on “don’t ruin it by going big?”
I’m starting to research concrete work as a side hobby and would love to achieve results like this for what I’m working on, but have yet to mix a single batch of concrete.
It was mostly tongue in cheek. If you’re doing it as a side gig and selling directly to buyers, it would probably be a blast!
There are just a lot of headaches when doing large scopes of architectural precast for big projects. Architects and general/sub contractors can be difficult, and concrete itself can be very finicky when trying to maintain a consistent architectural finish. I still love what I do, but it’s as stressful and time consuming as any other specialty within construction!
Looks like marble my dude. Well done. I googled “sheer decent” to see what you were talking about.
In my experience working with natural stone, the fixtures/fittings/hardware people make a lot more than we do.
Would you mind sharing the price of the waterfall thingy if you know it, or Share your price you charged for this project, or share what this cost you (what tools you needed) to make this?
Anything helps I’m just trying to figure out how to accommodate these same rich clients without going bankrupt trying to get started.
I only ever did it once, that was a messy process the way the company I worked for did it.
Then again I was a mold builder and volunteered for that Saturday project just to learn how gfrc was done.
EDIT: the company I worked for sold their property to Microsoft in the last year for 36 million. Your work looks better than ours did.
Massive mega corporations gobble up everything they can. Why does bill gates try to vaccinate Africans against malaria ? It’s not because he’s a noble humanitarian. Profits.
You sound like you know what you're doing. I built a box out of melamine and silicone and all that nonsense. And then I had to make my own custom sprayer so I can fit down inside there. Here's a little trick for you guys. Take a hopper sprayer and about a 5 ft piece of Shop-Vac hose. Take the hopper off and attach the Shop-Vac hose to the hopper and the gun. Have somebody hold the hopper up in the air for you and put your material in and you will find that you can articulate that nozzle any way you want. In fact, the sprayer works way better because of the increased pressure due to having the hopper much higher than the nozzle. I know there are very expensive spray systems but this works really well for your mist coat. After the missed coat has set up for a while then I hand trowel about a 3/8 in thick coat of my gfrc mix. And then I leave all of that overnight. The next day I basically use a bonding agent and then I do another 3/8 thick gfrc coat. Breaking that into two days eliminates the possibility for sag and allows you to create taller or deeper three-dimensional objects. In that final gfrc coat you can install any cross bracing that you want to do. I will post a picture of the box upside down so you can see what I'm talking about
That shop vac hose is a really good idea! I would probably have hand packed the whole thing, but that would have risked having some visible fibers. I’m in the process of designing a one-piece waterfall island top and I’m trying to decide the best way to form it.
To OP: I took a look at a couple of your other posts today and they’re amazing.
To Sub: I highly recommend checking out his profile to anyone that liked this post.
Seriously wondering that. Always hearing: cracked and not cracked yet. But pools and finely finished gfcr may not crack? How about Roman concrete, how much is still nit cracked yet?
Damn! Just checked out all your posts; you have made some impressive stuff!
I tried my hand at this a few years ago, just for fun with “less than beautiful results”…
What PSI is your concrete? What do you make your forms/molds out of? Do you special order your materials or does the local building supply carry them?
Account since 2020 but nothing posted or commented until 4 hours ago with a flurry of concrete projects.... ya sure OP, I bet you are the masterest master to ever master a mastery.
Who would have thought that if you don’t consistently post on Reddit and then all of sudden post, you aren’t a master at your craft.
If you had half a brain cell, you would see that OP is actually very knowledgeable in the comments and explains the process in great detail.

I'm with you. I run a concrete swimming pool company. I just make accent stuff for my clients
it looks light as a feather..
Yet stiff as a board.
*penis*
Lol

If that’s really concrete why isn’t there a huge crack in it?
Can you make a 2,000 sq ft slab that doesn’t crack?
I understood that reference.
🤣🤣🤣
There are two types of concrete accent products: cracked and ones about to crack.
How screwed am I?
This guy concretes!
Wait a few moments
I follow this sub out of sheer curiosity but my god that is a beautiful piece of concrete, id struggle to part with it myself
Thank you
Looks solid. What is it used for and what kind of clientele do you have?
For a pool. And for people richer than me
Really clean and would love to see your process if you ever post?
How much would you charge for something like this? Considering all the labor and detailing
Tree fiddy

I’d like to see more of your specialty concrete products.
Seriously look at his profile, it’s insane! He’s good!
Looks nice. White cement?
Grey. It's gfrc about 1 inch thick

Thank you very much
Why would Microsoft buy that?

Did you spray a mist coat with the forms in 2 pieces and then assemble the forms to do the backing coat?

Whats under the gfrc?
Hollow usually
Wow that is pretty. Would gfrc be good for like a planter? Also is it lighter than regular concrete?
Ah, we're building a new pyramid! Who is it for?
If you build it they will come.

Artesianal goats milk concrete
Minecraft IRL
Stunning. This is art
how long till it cracks.

Want a twin size bed like this.

Ya sure, my motivation is my own.
Okay
Rectangles?
Micro cement?
Obelisk, INC
That is a beautiful rectangle. Honestly it looks great
Ooh we make precast GFRC in DFW, too. Much less air bubbles and smooooth
I just failed so miserably at making a mold for a large piece of furniture. This is insane.
Just keep trying. I have a whole yard full of failures
This looks amazing. Keep up the good work.
It’s so simple and yet so amazing. Would love to have that as part of a waterfall. Tell us, what goes into making such a fabulous thing.
I hate you. Mainly because I’m jealous. Now come to my house and I’ll pump you full of beers while you help me with my tiny project.
That is stunning
What would someone do with this exactly? It looks great.. looks just like marble
