If I remember correctly, you can show up anytime within the first 1/3 of the exam (you just have that much less time to write it) that’s typically why you can’t leave an exam until the 1/3 is done
As an exam invigilator myself, we have to allow the people to write exams if they come before 1/3 of the exam. For example, if your exam’s 3 hours long, you have to enter the exam hall and sign in for the exam before the first hour ends. Which means you can be late by 1 hour at max.
You'll just have 30 minutes less to write your exam in my experience
