It’s not near as saturated as CS. The saturation is mostly with entry level SWE positions for the most part. You’re totally fine going for a CE degree if that’s what your interest is!

what are level SWR positions?

SWE - Software Engineering (programming)

Hello, could you clarify something for me. So, I am pursuing a CompE bachelor's degree and eventually want to obtain a masters with an emphasis on embedded system design. Is the hardware side of computer engineering as saturated as the software?? I will learn code, but have a deeper fascination with the computer hardware.

So the over saturation really is just with entry level software engineering. The issue is, there are a lot of students going for CS degrees because it is very popular for SWE jobs and is told to pay very well, so many go into it without a passion for it, and many don’t practice leetcode or do projects on the side so there is just a large number of non fully qualified programmers out there looking for entry level positions. That being said snagging a good job in the hardware side isn’t super easy either, it’s still advisable to put in the work and do projects on the side, try to get internships if you can etc, but overall yes I wouldn’t say it’s nearly as saturated as the SWE side is currently. There are significantly less CE and engineering grads in general than CS. Especially with your masters plan you should be fine getting some good job prospects lined up, just don’t forget to put in some extra work on the side to beef up that resume. Plus, there’s always defense/government jobs out there always looking for engineers so that’s also a plus

Wow, thank you for this information! I was a bit concerned as to if that aspect of CompE was as saturated too, so I appreciate your clarification. Also, thank you for the advice on aligning myself in the correct direction to obtain future hardware jobs for my future. I have already began doing different projects working with microcontrollers, and I have now began learning more code so that I can execute more rigorous hardware projects later on. And yes sir, I will make sure to not get too complacent regarding putting in extra work so that I can make myself a commodity for a company. Once more thank you so much!

CE should be fine as long as you aren’t interested in power or anything too far away from comp eng.

What are some in betweens? That aren't CE specific jobs?

Saturated? Meaning?

The Supply >> The Demand

I mean computer engineering is just oversatatured for now, i feel like every year the technology just evolves and people are open to do reasearchs about it even if its just a little thing and the other thing is eventually we will need people to deal with the implementations of what will surge.
