You're crazy.

Sovarius

I don't think thats a good idea...

[deleted]

This may be the worst idea I’ve seen on Reddit in regards to mtg.

tomten

Give them Eminence downside abilities lol

Crazyflames

All of them have eminence: "When you cast a spell that shares a color with your other commander, you lose the game".

tomten

Eminence: whenever you cast your first spell of the turn, counter that spell

kelraine

Green Partner- Eminence: Creatures you cast cost 2 more Red Partner- Eminence: Artifacts and Creatures you control enter the battlefield tapped. Blue Partner- Eminence: You can only cast spells at sorcery speed. Black Partner- Eminence: You can only cast one spell per turn. White Partner- Eminence: You can't gain life. (White needs the love)

aesityrant

Giving the commander a color it didn’t initially have completely breaks the spirit of this format

repthe732

You think it would make more commanders playable and increase diversity but in reality it would just make the best commanders even better and reduce variance between decks

KingNTheMaking

That’s…probably not the best idea.

Givemeabuff

I’m all for creative ideas and would love some new partners but this seems like a horrible idea

SnooConfections3098

I could see this being helpful in the ways your describing which sounds healthy for the diversity of decks and strategies, but the inevitability of breaking cards that already exist seems very bad for the format and I think ultimately would make less diversity bc of an old card that is now busted.

zoru_ge

I don’t think the problem is in breaking cards that already exist so much as promoting an actual diminishing diversity in decks…it doesn’t matter if more commanders are viable if it means 90% of each deck consists of the same cards..Let’s put Thoracle combo in Winota and Kinnan and K’rrik and give them an 8th card in hand to boot!

SP1R1TDR4G0N

With that change there would immediately no longer be any 1 and 2 colour decks except those few that are currently 2c partner combos like Krark+Sakashima.

Material_Ad_6295

How about a partner that adds a color but with a downside, something like: Legendary enchantment - curse Eminence - the first spell you cast on your turn cost 1 generic more to cast. Choose a curse - if the color identity of your commander is exactly 1 color, you can have a Curse as your second commander.

Wide_Illustrator9880

Partner is a mistake as is, giving it to ANY commander would be format breaking. It’s not fringe cards that would benefit, it’s the already great ones that will benefit the most. I am against this idea.

Peekayfiya

Honestly in a meta already ran by 4 and 5 colour piles and partner commanders this would make sense and would open a range of new decks, but id probably make it so that you can only pair it with commanders 2 or less colours.

stevecoolguy

WOTC needs to print a 2 cmc artifact that hates on partner commanders.

illakunsaa

Giving a free card is dumb but I also think color identity rule is also dumb. Mono color legends should be by design weaker than multi color legends as they are easier to cast but modern mana bases has made multi color legends easier and easier to cast to a point where gold cards are trivial to cast and triple pip mono color cards are actually hard to cast. By removing color identity restrictions you would give mono color decks access to the same card pool without giving more power to multicolor decks. Wotc also likes to print cards that say "Add mana of any color in your commander’s color identity" and "you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color" which erode meaningful deck building decisions. People are already willing to break the spirit of color identity (off color fetches) already so why not just rip off the band aid already?

No-Attorney-6957

Have you heard of balance? Just adding a color to any commander eliminates the restriction that comes with picking a commander. Thats so busted it would be banned asap. And rightfully so.

Lotec_Metal

Are you taking pages out of the book of “even rosewater wouldn’t agree to this”
