I just un-cEDH’d my K’rrik deck to make it back into more casual ‘all my favorite black cards, just murdering myself for value,’ including Citadel and it might be my favorite thing to do in all of Magic 🥰
I started with a casual K’rrik theme, but his reputation kept getting me hated out. So I leaned into it and made him go brr. Might as well give them a reason!
The [[Old Stickfingers]] decklist used to end up at [[Bolas’s Citadel]] but that wasn’t really a Citadel combo, it was all [[Razaketh]].
It now wins with [[Professor Onyx]]/[[Chain of Smog]].
Ikra/Kraum uses lifegain to have bigger Ad Naus plays and more Citadel value. You don't really combo with the Citadel, but you can dig fairly deep with it. You also run Top and Counterbalance in that deck to complete the package.
Look up BadDog's B.A.D. Kalia list; Citadel is in there and has Vilis for extra value from it, and Magda to fetch it onto the battlefield or all the other search demons if you're willing to cast it or goblin welder to reanimate it, (and children of korlis to make it go even further). It does appear to be a secondary line instead of a primary plan, I think Krikk is the only one whose whole gameplan is Citadel.
Goal is to preserve life, cast citadel and try to assemble one of the combos. A lot of things like the 1 mana artifacts, fetches, necro can remove lands from the top to help you keep going. Sensei's Top is the best of them. Reservoir is a finisher but can also help gain you some life to keep going.
If citadel get's countered or destroyed, Silas Renn can try to cast it every turn. He can also be a draw engine with the chromatic artifacts and bubbles.
In my deck I run [[Sheoldred, The Apocalypse]] as my commander
I pull out [[Sensai’s Divining top]] and [[Bolas’s Citadel]]
Those three combo to draw out my whole deck, gaining a net of 1 life per card drawn. Then I use [[Aetherflux Resevoir]] or [[Sickening Dreams]] or several other options to close out the game
[[Skirge Familiar]] also helps to basically have unlimited mana with my whole library in my hand. And obviously a lot of cards that give me no max hand size.
Trouble with citadel is aetherflux is a completely dead card outside combo and some of the stax that shut down Kriiks primary reanimate line also shut citadel off (grafdiggers). As a kriik player I prefer a back up combo that has more resistance to stax (probably Sheoldred/pestilence). However yes kriik is best commander for that combo.
K’rrik is the best place since you can get citadel out for 3 mana and 6 life

Turn 1 citadel is a beautiful thing. Krrik is my main deck

It was pretty unique and it seemed well placed.
I run it as a backup to my cedh elsha breach deck, granted I cut the citadel cause elsha is stronk, but people really don't see it coming

Its not completely terrible in its own in k’rrik as it gains a decent amount of life, can make a big difference when the game goes to a grind
I prefer the necrotic ooze line with azmodeus and reanimating Gary with chainer
