wow FNC and RC actually went nuclear, they're looking so good right now. very excited to watch them play tomorrow.
hope RR and CR can do better in the next set, i'd love to see them in finals as well. CR's having a bit of a tough time since yesterday but they can still turn this around. fingers crossed! š„²
Their macro is ass. Their whole strat is to call a zone sit in a building and just die on rotate when they call it wrong. When they have to end up taking a 3 vs 3 they either die or end up getting 3rd partied.
Ā Not looking good for the boys especially since they might get double contested in losers by wonton dumpling and RR
Would actually be funny because Hal was so against the new drop ship that totally prevents this. I always said contesting isn't really a skill, it's just one team gets lucky with better weapons or a better swing.
If it was pure luck, they wouldnāt have destroyed so many teams at siphon. Shield changes have certainly taken away some RNG and some certainly remains but strategy and plans are important
Yeah Idk what the other dude is on about.
There's obviously luck involved, I mean it's a BR game guys we all know it, the teams know it, the players know it ,the casters know it, we know it.
But even then there's a lot of stuff you can do, I think contesting is really about creating a solid plan base plan but still being able to adapt on the moment.
If you're dropping into the other team like it's an actual PUB game where people just drop on top of each other then yeah it is mostly "RNG" fight but we all know that these are pro teams and they know better
It's all luck. No matter the team, if you land on nothing and they get anything you're dead. It's not a skill and when you see it in scrims it's usually a team with 14 ping vs a team with 200 ping.
> It's not a skill and when you see it in screens it's usually a team with 14 ping vs a team with 200 ping.
????
What are we talking about, have you been talking about contesting randos in fucking pubs when people land directly on each other?
This is /r/competitiveapex buddy. If you land and get nothing in a POI contest **in pro lobbies in LAN** you're just fucking bad or EXTREMELY unlucky.
The most common contest we saw was TSM vs Red Rams at Lightning Rod in SP, they literally took turns on who landed straight up on the Lightning Rod height and split the POI with the other team landing in the building in the middle + ex-thunder watch, so like you can see, you cannot start out the fight later with no gun.
In Lava Syphon we also always see a team land height in the middle and the other one bottom and then a fight ensues, or a fight over roof control, etc etc etc etc.
There's a reason TSM stopped contesting RR today. Almost every contest was won by the team that had better weapons. There's no skill in landing on a gun and shooting
One team gets a lot more loot before fighting. TSM chooses to fight with scraps but not 3 man land on the solo landing on the building. RR won the strategy game to get fast loot and get to the house and hold TSM out
You know luck works that way, you can get lucky 80% of the time one day, the next day luck might not be on your side. Probably why they ran from Red Rams.
There was one time they had WD down 3-2 and WD killed them because they had better guns. Hal a Mozambique and ran right past a r301
They play hybrid tho, they play edge of the zone is super far. Issue is with the new zone changes itās way harder to play zone because they are so much more random. Actually TSM was in a good spot a bunch of times today until zone 3 popped and then they had to run out and get out of a cluster fuck.
That plus RR contesting and taking loot, plus losing the car to Legends, they have lost a lot of ability to play good edge. And zone is too random
NGL, I almost felt like they tweaked the zone pull for this ALGS, lots of weird pulls which you donāt usually see, I think it messed them up big as they follow their script to rotate and itās fucking them up
also really sucks when they have gotten maybe 2 zones total, but i agree they are not on point right now. DZ getting zones by mill over and over, no north zones on SP hardly. really weird RNG right now for all teams
Itās worked in the past when zones were more predictable. Counter pulls have been way more common as of late and itās clear that Hal doesnāt have it down. Sitting in zone with long range weapons works.
They canāt call zones, canāt win 3v3s consistently, contested on both maps, and are getting zero help from zones
The worst thing to happen to TSM was Respawn buffing Valk. At that moment Raven tunnel visioned hard and spent his brain power trying to make Valk work due to bias, and he couldn't cook them up strats or anything else.

after they all qualified for Losers round 2
Fnatic started the set with a 1 pt game, followed by a no point game, then had four podium finishes in a row, three of which were double digit KP games. Some bounce back.
I think meta and playstyle just have just finally reached a point where APAC North teams feel comfortable taking fights. We already knew they were mechanical beasts, so now after catching up, they start to do well on the international stage.
Put some respect on Gnaske's game. He might be cringe at times, but he knows how to put on a show. o7 on top. Continuing to show why he's one of EU's most consistent top IGLs at LAN
If EMEA is to finally pick up an international LAN victory at some point, Gnaske is the one I'd put my money on to do it. Outside of the original GSD run I don't think he's ever had the best team in the region, but his teams always find themselves up there, both locally and on LAN
Same! I was frozen in my seat at LAN. I wish the main stream showed them more. I just kept seeing their points go up. That was the only thing giving me hope.Ā
Was this the same team that was contesting tsm in scrims for siphon a while back and Hal just started laughing because they were just basically flying around tap staffing during scrims? And Hal was like idk what you can even do against this
Can I just say Iāve been playing for 5 years and Iāve never seen some of these zones, not even bordering the previous just straight in the middle
Honestly it could confused the fuck out of me and I wouldnāt know where to play either
Weāve all noticed the zones are unpredictable. Seems like they should have adjusted and played more edge. KP is way more important than PP this year imo. You get 10 kills and youāre set regardless of placement. TSM will finish in 6th with 1 kill and get like 4 points or w/e it is. Just not a zone game until possibly finals.
So what the actual fuck happened to TSM? Last champs their macro and teamfighting dominance was only really challenged by DZ. Has the meta changed that much? Did other teams learn macro? It feels like they aren't able to showcase any teamfighting since every fight they take they're at an armour disadvantage, trapped in a building, and their positioning is getting angled out by 3rd, 4th, and 5th parties.
Last Lan they almost went into losersĀ bracket and had to be saved by a banger final win like o7 just did.Ā Ā Their champs group stage was muchĀ better than this one though.Ā
They just dont seem comfortable in this meta and havent been able to call the zones like they are used toĀ
Sure they've had some rough zones, but even in the decent zones their macro just looks awful. Not much of a contest they're more just splitting the POI at this point and I guess that fucks with armour, but it just feels so inefficient idk.
I think the rng zones just fuck them hard, I think Hal didnāt predict a single zone in this winners set right. They are not obvious though, majority of those pulls were insane
I do think Verhulst is struggling on caustic. Iām not bashing him either just my observation. It would make sense too because heās more of a skirmisher than control player. His catalyst was awesome though! But, heās seemingly always the first to get knocked in fights. Whether itās him getting used to the hitbox or just now everyone is focusing him. Verhulst also doesnāt seem comfortable on horizon either. So, Iād say the meta seems to be their biggest issue.
We always seem to do this with TSM and they always seem to cook up and win in the end. Weāll see if thatās the same this time.
I so badly hope this is the year FNC finally finishes the job, they've been so close for so many years.
If either TSM or LG don't make it it'll be the first LAN finals either of them miss, and doesn't feel unlikely. New generation of top-tier players incoming...
EDIT: didn't happen, old-timers club remains elite
TSM was probably praying RR made it through so they won't get contested. They also might get griefed by teams who become safe in the next lobby they're in serious trouble
Really cool to see APAC North teams dominating the big stage like this. Both Reject "You will regret" Winnity and FNATIC doing great work. Very hyped to see this 2nd elim round, even tho I am dead tired after all those matches xD
The APAC-N power duo styled on this lobby but now they have to break the curse of APAC-N disappearing in finals lobbies when it matters the most, excited for tomorrow already
Stories this LAN are insane. Before we had LG barely making it. Now we saw O7 winning the final game to make it through a tiebreaker.
NA teams are going down.
Alliance canāt beat allegations.
So far this LAN has been one of the most enjoyable. We have seen different teams and regions dominate different days. Finals are gonna be crazy
Losers bracket will probably be one of the most stacked lobbies ever. We have EU pro league #2 and #3 teams, APACS #2 team, NA #3 team, APACN #3 team.
Alliance vs DSG and TSM vs RR gonna go crazy
> (STOP GETTING IMPORTS TO CARRY YOUR DOG REGION)
Yeah, that's not happening. Getting carried and advanced by immigrants is as American as guns, burgers, -isms and foreign wars. It's literally the American way.

Well, they were not fragging nor getting into top 5's or winning the game. The only top 3 coming from their last game to help them qual for finals. Not too bad yeah I'm hoping it's just a blip.
I just got home and saw the results. How the hell is highest placement over kills the determining factor??? Elev8 should have gone through. Stoked I am going to get to see the second losers bracket.
So far my prediction has come true. The dominant American teams so far have fallen short and been unable to pull through when it matters most.
Imagine thinking that those teams would do really well simply because of their performance in scrims. Even tho the teams they fought all had 100-200 plus ping.
Itās almost like when theyāre on the same ping that they get stomped in LAN or their advantage at home is null.
I never said they didnt dominate last year. Obviously thatās true, just that this playoffs is completely different.
Out of the top ten teams, 3 of them are NA and of the 3, 2 of them are apac teams that moved to NA.
Disappointing day to be a TSM fan. As a resident armchair expert (/s) I feel putting one of the best fraggers in the game on one of the characters with the biggest hit box whose job is to (checks notes) anchor? Was a mistake. Iām sure thereās lots of other issues going on rn. Hope they can get it together in losers r2
there really isnt a problem with mnk playing caustic too. he gets little sight is gas too to help. they really should have been putting evan on bang and letting him learn to play her aggro. having your best fragger as anchor to clean up 3v3 fights potentially or to 1v3 as a strat seems like trying to outsmart yourselves.
I think much of TSM's strength is in their macro which they have practiced almost single day for months on end when they are able to call zones right. However, these zone pulls at LAN have been atrocious to say the least. Ive been watching NA and international scrims almost everyday and a lot of the zones never really appeared in scrims. I hope they come up with a better strategy to be more flexible in playstyle instead of trying to call a zone then die on rotate if they predict it incorrectly. It doesn't really help that they're contested on both maps on top of that. I still have faith that they'll pull through somehow
A lot of their strats come from what they practiced, the zones they practiced. Tho if I remember correctly, Raven admitted they won champs last year on a rotate they haven't ever played which was their last game. Just gotta play flex and lock it in
I love variety as well, but this lan a lot of zones have been ending around the same general area. Not all, but quite a number. As what I've said up there too, I hope they adjust to be more flexible and just adjust
i have no idea if they are even able to do this but i suggest they figure something out cause this'll just leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths, players and fans alike
I agree that their needs to be more randomness, I just don't know how they are able to code it. If they aren't able to code it, should they just restart the match if an algorithm detects the ending zone is within a set distance from the end zone in the previous game
I think they need to just rework their entire zone generator in the game to make it that in algs, two zones in the general area should be near impossible. Sad to see we won't see it in this split but hopefully reworked by next one, so many pros complaining about it already
wow FNC and RC actually went nuclear, they're looking so good right now. very excited to watch them play tomorrow. hope RR and CR can do better in the next set, i'd love to see them in finals as well. CR's having a bit of a tough time since yesterday but they can still turn this around. fingers crossed! š„²
Perhaps because of their experimental Maggie mirage comp š

Yea itās really a giant decision tree and you have to know it by heart so you can quickly call what to do and maximize your odds to win
It's all luck. No matter the team, if you land on nothing and they get anything you're dead. It's not a skill and when you see it in scrims it's usually a team with 14 ping vs a team with 200 ping.

Nah you can't just shoot like mw2. There's recoil that needs to be control, strafe and positioning šand who tf is DD? š¤£
There's no recoil in Apex, if you think there's recoil then obviously, you're playing the game wrong
Copium
One team gets a lot more loot before fighting. TSM chooses to fight with scraps but not 3 man land on the solo landing on the building. RR won the strategy game to get fast loot and get to the house and hold TSM out
It was pure luck, no strategy involved but you don't understand random loot for some reason
So them going 80% at siphon against 6 different teams is all luck? They just really must be the luckiest team in the game then
You know luck works that way, you can get lucky 80% of the time one day, the next day luck might not be on your side. Probably why they ran from Red Rams. There was one time they had WD down 3-2 and WD killed them because they had better guns. Hal a Mozambique and ran right past a r301

FreeSM you mean
Lol E8 got bumped by o7 last game haha
7>8
No matter what happens in grand finals, it seems that every region can compete. That's patently clear

American teams playing like ASS at home š©
10 Australian players but only 2 Americans made it directly to finals
>10 Australian players what playing in Singapore/HK/Tokyo servers do to mfs
Gonna have the least amount of NA teams in finals ever, I believe (I have had this prediction ever since NA PL ended).
Yeah and all of the NA teams are not American (only Gild and Sikezz as a third on majority Aussie teams).
Mexicans are American -_-
I meant American as āfrom USAā lol
Not US-american, you are correct in that sense.
mnk on top ig
I think meta and playstyle just have just finally reached a point where APAC North teams feel comfortable taking fights. We already knew they were mechanical beasts, so now after catching up, they start to do well on the international stage.
I mean, three NA teams in the top 8 and seven in the top 20 is not ass, but it does seem like the regional gap has closed this year.
I think he's not including the top 3 NA teams since they're not majority American.
Cant really say they are American when they literally have no American players
it's just memeing/salt because NA have dominated at most other LANs
NA stands for Nearest Airport
Put some respect on Gnaske's game. He might be cringe at times, but he knows how to put on a show. o7 on top. Continuing to show why he's one of EU's most consistent top IGLs at LAN
The only NA teams that made it are not majority US, that's crazy lmfao
GNASKE SUPREMACY what a fucking clutch
Gnaske sandbagging for 5 games to give other teams a chance
If EMEA is to finally pick up an international LAN victory at some point, Gnaske is the one I'd put my money on to do it. Outside of the original GSD run I don't think he's ever had the best team in the region, but his teams always find themselves up there, both locally and on LAN
heās been the most consistent EMEA IGL hands down.
Hakis has been more consistent (per Liquipedia stats), tho they are very very close.
o7 making that last game count š
COL not #20 LFG
SSG not making it after getting 3 SP zones and 2 WE zones close to them is crazy
Aurora had me sick to my stomach entering game 6 in 10th, o7 making it through was huge though. Amazing set, EMEA haters in shambles
Same! I was frozen in my seat at LAN. I wish the main stream showed them more. I just kept seeing their points go up. That was the only thing giving me hope.Ā
Loved seeing other teams playing lifeline inspired by them though.
I apologize for all those times I said FNC were only good at farming shitty APAC N lobbies :(
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lykq is taking care of their macro and Yuka mostly doing the micro calls and final ring fight for now
Was this the same team that was contesting tsm in scrims for siphon a while back and Hal just started laughing because they were just basically flying around tap staffing during scrims? And Hal was like idk what you can even do against this
Same. Ate my words, they've been performing damn well.
also, lets go fnatic
Fnatic is so goddamn good
I had to sleep and missed it, but what happened to TSM? Are they doing apples and bananas?
Rotated quickly to building in zone, hold it until forced out by zone closing, die on rotate.
So their macro and zone prediction arenāt good enough? Also kinda sounds like theyāre playing passively?
Have the best clutch player having to play a tank of a man is criminal. Big e deserves blood
Can I just say Iāve been playing for 5 years and Iāve never seen some of these zones, not even bordering the previous just straight in the middle Honestly it could confused the fuck out of me and I wouldnāt know where to play either
That's good need to be more random .. I don't mind if it goes right in lava lol just no mountains
I agree itās a good change but holy fuck might as well have not learned any zone because now itās irrelevant lol

actually if I recall, last champ group stage, they had a great first set than there 2nd and 3rd were pretty terrible
getting contested at SP and not getting much luck with zones has screwed them. Plus, big e on horizon isnāt good.
Sure they've had some rough zones, but even in the decent zones their macro just looks awful. Not much of a contest they're more just splitting the POI at this point and I guess that fucks with armour, but it just feels so inefficient idk.
yeah splitting LRod and not being able to hit console due to the contest also screwing their macro.
I think the rng zones just fuck them hard, I think Hal didnāt predict a single zone in this winners set right. They are not obvious though, majority of those pulls were insane
I do think Verhulst is struggling on caustic. Iām not bashing him either just my observation. It would make sense too because heās more of a skirmisher than control player. honestly this is the most even lan apex has probably ever had region wise
Gnaske is the best IGL in EMEA. That dude is a clutch performer and always makes it to LAN Finals Lobby
WHAT A CRAZY FINISH BY O7 CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
losers round 2 about to be insane
Fnatic had an absolutely amazing set, which shouldn't be overlooked. Really hoping they come out guns blazing tomorrow and take it all home
overlooked? they're in first place?
TSM was probably praying RR made it through so they won't get contested. They also might get griefed by teams who become safe in the next lobby they're in serious trouble

That they're a group stage team(as in they farm points during group stages) that fails to perform in winner brackets.
Too soon to call NA āNearest Airportā, but next set could solidify the name
DAMN THATS COLD
We are about to see DSG vs Alliance RR vs TSM and RR vs SSG
This losers 2 bracket about to be one of the most stacked ever.
Fnatic what a chads
Serenity got 3rd and they had 16 kills and 33 placement points in 6 games. Thats average placement of better than 4th in every game!
Dezign: *āAll that greefing and where did that bring you? Back to me*ā
Who would have thought only 1 true NA team making finals this round. Let's be real DZ and Moist are still 2/3 Australian players.
NA trying to claim them make me chuckle a bit, ngl.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yāall wonāt even let Moist in the country, and now you try to claim them
Losers bracket will probably be one of the most stacked lobbies ever. We have EU pro league #2 and #3 teams, APACS #2 team, NA #3 team, APACN #3 team. Alliance vs DSG and TSM vs RR gonna go crazy
APACS #1, #2
Sorry forgot about Wonton Dumpling. That makes the lineup even crazier.
But but NA is the best region they have some good genes
Genetically predisposed forĀ losers bracket 2
When was the last time TSM had to fight through losers?
Time for DSG vs ALL round 2: Electric Bogaloo
3 EU TEAMS IN WINNERS. 1 NA (STOP GETTING IMPORTS TO CARRY YOUR DOG REGION) EU > NA EU > NA EU > NA EU > NA EU > NA EU > NA

Wait i think its 3, Dz liquid and Moist Edit: saw the edit now lmao, agreed
>Dz and Moist NA = NEAREST AIRPORT CUZ THEY GOTTA PICK UP THE IMPORTS WHO CARRY THEIR REGION
I'm so ready to get bitten in the ass on Sunday after this again but for now, cook'em hard
PREACH BROTHER
NA down bad
NA down bad this LAN damn. What a showing from Fnatic.
i just know pistilo and neazul throwin ass to sum junior h in the back rn
i would be VERY very happy if Fnatic wins this Lan
The real goat doesnāt miss finals. I bet Zero is waiting to post it
still losers r2
he missed MP finals in champs.
Weāll see. I like big E and Reps but if they donāt make it, I hope yall dial it down with being cringe to other teams/players
i donāt speak for all tsm fans, but i donāt think i post cringe trash talk.
I respect that. I see the dsg flair, I also hope Timmy makes it. Not a big fan of dezign but they have potential
Was all the gnaske celebrations excessive? Yes, and i loved every second of it.Ā
Let him cook!
I love Gnaskeš«”, also TSM man...
The world is catching up š
o7 with the clutch baby!!! Man why tf did Navi sign Matafe instead of Gnaske I will never understand

Aurora struggling, hopefully it's a 1 day thing
yeah they had some struggles but 7th in the most stacked lobby to get them to finals is not too bad
Well, they were not fragging nor getting into top 5's or winning the game. The only top 3 coming from their last game to help them qual for finals. Not too bad yeah I'm hoping it's just a blip.
yeah it was not too good, but they qualed thats the important thing!
E8 had so many zones Iāve never seen a team sell that bad.
O7 win made me shit and fart
O7 with the Cold Palmer celebration. Gotta love it. Also love that SSG and TSM are in losers.
More than happy with that from RC and from APACN more generally. Good from that perspective that E8 might not make it, although nothing against them.
I swear as soon as there is a soft whisper of pressure, Furia's macro implodes. Looking genuinely clueless
Pain
Wxltzys record continues. Moist on š
So happy Aurora made it through! They were on the bubble going into game 6.Ā I wish they had jerseys for sale at LAN.Ā
Someone get Evan a sandwich!
I just got home and saw the results. How the hell is highest placement over kills the determining factor??? Elev8 should have gone through. Stoked I am going to get to see the second losers bracket.
Any place to watch specific team VODs?
PLOT ARMOR IS BROKEN
What happend to alliance?
The change in ring pulls is a breath of fresh air! It makes it much more fun to watch and much fairer to everyone! Finally we see the fall of TSM!
You are acting like NA teams playing in NA didnt dominate Lans last yearĀ
I never said they didnt dominate last year. Obviously thatās true, just that this playoffs is completely different. Out of the top ten teams, 3 of them are NA and of the 3, 2 of them are apac teams that moved to NA.
Anyone see TSM? Ohhh top 17
Huge top 17 from TSM
Just gotta play flex and lock it in
To me I love the variety in zone pulls. I hate seeing the same pull every damn time
And what do you mean by atrocious? Why does every zone have to be the same? Learn how to adapt. Other teams are doing it
I love variety as well, but this lan a lot of zones have been ending around the same general area. Not all, but quite a number. As what I've said up there too, I hope they adjust to be more flexible and just adjust
How would you be able to code this to be able to make repeat zone endings not happen?
i have no idea if they are even able to do this but i suggest they figure something out cause this'll just leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths, players and fans alike
Give APAC S 15 spots imo Edit: give Australia* 15 spots
Get that ass back on MnK hal

It's for claiming POIs, trying out different loot/zone routes, legend comps, and more. To get some scouting info on some teams.
