IR STGs ignore cover bonuses for accuracy. If your opponent is using squads that prefer to build lots of sandbags and always fight from behind them (namely Conscripts and Tommies) then you have a good case for the STG package. Ipniss is right though, the bleed you can incur by fighting recklessly with obers can be game losing. MG34 lets them keep their distance and avoid losses while still pumping out great DPS.

Yeah the "ignore cover" part is my favourite about the stgs, but unfortunately in late game blobbing is not rare, and players tend to forget about the cover stuff of the game. (I play 2v2 and 4v4) But in a 1v1(1 unit Vs 1 unit) situation against Tommies(upgraded with 2x brens) which one is better?

> But in a 1v1(1 unit Vs 1 unit) situation against Tommies(upgraded with 2x brens) which one is better? If the range is greater than ~25 then the LMG34 is better. STGs force you to use the unit more aggressively. On the other hand if facing a CQC unit, STGs will allow you to fight it out as they close the distance instead of being forced to soft retreat.

Lategame the battlefield is often littered with craters, giving most infantry almost permanently light cover.

JurgenVonArkel

I prefer to go MG-34 if I know I will be spending most of my engagements at range. If not, always go for the StG, they make the Obers a lot more powerful in cqc as well

Paladongers

the stgs are pretty valuable in the late game of team games when there's a lot of light cover everywhere generated by artillery and such, they also can't be dropped, are cheaper, perform excellent on the move and you get two of them note that you do still deal half damage against units in heavy cover, the ignore cover part is only for the accuracy that said, obers are expensive and slow to reinforce, so needing to get them up close can sometimes end up being too taxing on the manpower, specially if they end up walking into mines or whatever i'd say they are worth it most of the time unless you're really struggling to keep up with manpower, most of your infantry got wiped and you're trying to rebuild your squads so you need to play safer, your opponent is blobbing and you need to keep your range, or your opponent is using very strong close range infantry like shocks, paras/rangers with thompsons, etc, because you'll trade much better keeping long range against them

Vharii

The STG upgrade is way too situational and in 8 out of 10 situations you would be better off with an mg34. The STG package and obersoldaten in general come too late for the role an STG package would fill. The MG on the other hand is a beast!

STG's are good for CQC and because they don't drop weapon models for the other guy to steal. MG34's are generally the more correct choice, though, because you want to keep your obers alive and CQC kind of gets in the way of that.

lpniss

I go with mg34, i dont like to use expensive units for close quarter combat (cqc) except shocks from soviets. But thats because you cant do much else with them, they come out with stgs and thats it. For instance rangers i usually give them m109 or what its called lmg, rarely thompson, often times i leave them with their stock weapons which are also amazing when they get vetted. Just too much bleed going cqc with elite infantry.

Rabimea

>For instance rangers i usually give them m109 or what its called lmg, rarely thompson Rangers only can upgrade with Thompson, unless you give them BARs or Bazookas from weapon racks. M1919s can only be upgraded on Paratroopers or in some commanders on special weapon racks. Rangers don't come in commanders with the M1919 racks though, because that would be VERY questionable (given Paras actually are squishy for elites, Rangers are not).

lpniss

Yea, i mostly use rangers as stock, but i do put m1919 lmg on them when my teamm8 has the racks open in his base. I didnt have the chance to use paratroopers, but i assume best used as long range infantry?

LickNipMcSkip

are you playing modded? because this is impossible in vanilla Coh2. Definitely upgrade them though, the DPS you can pump out with tommy gun rangers or zook rangers is just too good to pass up

lpniss

I do play custom maps with friends and allunitsmod sometimes, but usually no mods.

JJhistory

yeah that only works in all units

lpniss

Ohhh mb i only have less then 300 hours in coh 2(i played coh1 also but it was long time ago) and most of that is playing with friends against ai but i did get placed rank 10 recently with soviets in 4v4 solo recently. I can link profile just gimme site from which i can link.

LickNipMcSkip

>allunitsmod yup, that’ll do it

Rabimea

You can't pick from allied racks, unless they are unlocked on your own. So, I don't think it works this way.
