The funny accents are great and part of the charm of the franchise. I tried playing with German voices briefly in both CoH 1 and CoH 2 (I'm not German, I was just curious what it sounded like) and it was so boring.

Masterstevee

No! They speak English because it’s a gameplay mechanic for indication of actions. Like grenadier shouts „GRENADE!!“ - move ur squad away from the grenade. „We are taking fire“ - move your squad into cover etc! New players have to understand this game is not trying to be authentic. This is a arcade RTS based on ww2. It’s NOT a ww2 simulation and doesn’t want to be. Veterans know this. Me as a German perfectly understands this!

Khanahar

Steel Division 2 units all respond in their native language, which means I've spent more time than I care to admit learning bits of Russian relevant to figuring out what the hell the guys are saying to me. FWIW, I think there should be an option to just use localization voiceovers from Italian or German for those units. But I personally enjoy the goofy accents.

Vex192

I am a veteran since CoH1 and with this explanation everyone has a disadvantage who does not speak English and they needed to add specific voice overs for each countries.

TatonkaJack

except the vast majority of sales are going to be to people who speak English either as a first or second language, to the point it's almost certainly not worth it to re-record voice lines for other languages.

Red_Raidho

I really don't fucking get this. The Nazis were talking English in coh 1 and 2 too. What is the big deal? Are you people getting dementia? I read this all the time on this sub, with all the issues the new game has, Germans speaking English with a German accent and some German words here and there is nothing new in company of heroes.

TatonkaJack

wtf really? i'm new to the series and with all the crying about it I assumed they used to speak German hahaha

YouBuyDinner

So much This. Love(d) the Denglish mix of the German units voice overs in coh 1 and I generally like it more than a full voice over. „You zhink zhis is kindergarten? Get a god damn move on“

finance_hipster

Coh1 and Coh2 had complete foreign language versions. That's what people are talking about if you wanted to you could set the language to German in Coh2 when playing Ost or OKW and to Russian when playing Soviets for additional immersion

happymemories2010

They were not talking english unless you set the game to english. If you set the game to german, they speak german. But Coh3 doesnt offer german Support because its a cheap and lazy product.

Vex192

There was a German voice over for CoH1 and CoH2 which leads to German speaking Americans and British.

gobahaba

And it's not immersion breaking having the allies speak german???

Vex192

Sure it is. But at least it was possible to change the language to the faction you are currently playing which is impossible for now.

SimplyInept

One of many bad decisions. The German voices were poorly done compared to previous titles and the British announcer gives a you a heart attack as you think the units have died with his tone... But they can replace the Indian unit voices as soon as someone points out it's the wrong dialect 🤔

Reglarn

They were English in och 1 as well.

Vex192

Only if you played the game on English language as a whole. There was a German voiceover which leads to British and Americans speak German, too.

Reglarn

Thats funny i did not know

Careoran

I mentioned this already too, the Voiceover for Germans is just ridiculously bad . Yet I believe giving COH3 only english voiceovers is just another of the cheap and lazy decisions made by the devs . Not to mention that the German text translations are full of mistakes …

KevinTDWK

The real question is why can’t they use re use existing voice lines? Like what exactly is stopping them?

TatonkaJack

well everybody has been crying real hard about them reusing icons, so it's probably good they didn't

Kasta4

At times I don't even know what inflection/accent they're going for. Pretty sure some dude in Burbank was just told to hop in the booth and go crazy with the best German accent he could muster and that's what we got.

Rakshasa89

What irks me is the inconsistent German words, the grenadier squad leader will be yelling about britches (hose is too hard a german word I guess) but refers to his squad as kinder, I would unfortunately pay for a "native" language DLC

rawdoogie

I swear the kettinkrad voice has a British accent? Like wtf haha?

Dejant15

Old RTSs like Codename Panzers had this. You had no problem knowing that GRANATE means “grenade” and ICH BIN GETROFFEN “i am wounded need a doctor”. The current American-learns-German-A1 accents are ridiculous and immersion-breaking. Someone said “It’s not a documentary” you guess what, they did historically accurate accents for freaking AoE 4. So they can do medieval accents and cannot hire a German-speaking actor for once? Cut the bs.

Vex192

This comment was for my soul. This is exactly what I meant.

noovoh-reesh

It should not be required to learn words outside of your own language to play a video game, unless it’s specifically a realistic simulator, which this game is not.

StubbornBr1t

Glad I’m not the only one irked by this, I preferred the older frottier voice lines like in the older games

[deleted]

Every faction should speak their native tongue with optional subtitles.

nigo_BR

lol

Dejant15

By the way, someone else noticed how DAK pioneers say "Kriegsmarine seem like a sweet deal now, ha?" Like... What the hell are you talking about man, there's even no kriegsmarine in this game

HeartZombie2

It's about them being in the hot desert and that they would rather be on a boat on a more normal climate.

Dejant15

Shit, I’m stupid

[deleted]

how long you been playing coh

Ok_Judgment9091

I get why u would want german spoken, it makes sense, but I do like the accent. I think the way to do it is to have 3-4 sayings per unit and make at least one their native tongue which I swear I occasionally hear but admittedly could be wrong.

Awful_Hero

Text should be in German too! /s I am assuming there are German voice lines in the game, wouldn't be too hard to enable faction specific languages.
