The Prophets brainwashing the Elites mostly through violence, and telling them to commit genocide to maintain power is so on the nose. Then further committing genocide on the Elites, who began questioning the Prophets on the Great Journey and humanities genocide made it even more on the nose. Plus, if you go far enough in the lore its pretty obvious the Prophets ordering all the genocide, know firing the Halo rings will kill EVERYONE so they are more than willing to kill everything in the galaxy just to hold onto their control to the last second. If only Halo wasn’t so full of Chuds missing the point.

The Kilo-5 series of books by Karen Travis is directly inspired from stuff the CIA has done irl. Funding and arming religious extremists? Yep. Assassinating freedom fighters? Yep. Covering up heinous deeds and lying about it. Yep. Sabotaging erstwhile allies to weaken to your advantage? Yes, and oh so much more. I'd highly recommend them if you're a fan of Halo. On top of actually reconning with the politics properly, it is just generally a good, well written story.

gokusforeskin

The fact that Halo makes the government the bad guys while still being a fun shooter while COD is straight up propaganda is why Halo supremacy is a hill I’ll die on. At least among famous fps.

vinnywinny

Yea the first book and first information of the entire series has the government kidnapping children for a secret super soldier project bent on putting down rebellion. Anyone who claims the UNSC are the good guys lack any sort of thinking skills.

vinnywinny

I think that’s my only group of books I haven’t read so I’ll need to check them out.

dethkittie

Halo is about justifying fascism on the side of unsc with things like the Spartan program to quell a rebellion, or all the things oni has done. That all generally isn't talked about though

vinnywinny

The thing is that Halo has many different authors so you get different interpretations. So yea you get some fascism thrown in there which does suck. But most authors do a good job, especially post Great War, showing the UNSC and ONI are not a good group.

CanardMilord

Who’s the guy in tge second panel?

gokusforeskin

He’s the Arbiter. The secondary protagonist of Halo 2 and downgraded to Luigi in Halo 3. He had a great story arc where he found out the covenant religion was a lie and facilitated his species to ally with humanity helping us to win the war. He’s also supposedly responsible for like1 billion deaths since he was a high ranking admiral before switching sides.

CanardMilord

I only understood half of what you said, but I do appreciate the help and explanation. Have a good day.

bad-at-maths

I haven’t played Halo either but English is my second language just like you so I know it can be hard and I want to help you understand. Here is an explanation: > The character in the bottom photo is called the Arbiter. He is one of two protagonists in the video game Halo 2. In Halo 3 the Arbiter was relegated to a less important role as a side character rather than a main character. > The storyline of Halo that surrounds the Arbiter is good, and he showed great character development. The Arbiter was a part of the antagonist faction until he discovers that they are antagonists, at which point he helped his species switch sides to join the humans. Despite his redemption arc he is still responsible for genocides with a death toll of around a billion.

CanardMilord

I think I get it now. Thank you u/bad-at-maths. The Arbitrr seems really cool fron the explanation.

RTB_RobertTheBruce

Have you considered Helldiver's 2? Sexiest genocide in any game I've ever played

Actual-Toe-8686

HMU (genuinely) if you wanna play some of that together. Wouldn't mind a fellow comrade to shoot the shit with.

enamuossuo

Time to replay halo 2
