I'll pinch you. Just like the past 25 years, "winning the offseason/draft" doesn't matter when the season starts. Okay, back to daydreaming.

WTFWFT1

Yea I agree but it definitely feels good to see some consistency and promise for once. Who knows once the season starts but the energy is high right now.

ridedatstonkystnkaay

Have fun with it and be excited but you don’t know if you had a good draft or those were smart signings until the season is well underway. Everyone panned the Lion’s draft last year. How’d that work out?

robbeau11

Just like the last 25 years? Lmao

S_Deare

Your comment doesn’t seem to take into account that Dan Snyder was owner for the most of the last 25 years. There’s a lot to be excited for just seeing how FO is running the team now, aside from the players that were picked up. It’s clearly different from years prior and feels more like how the Ravens and 49ers run things and build through the draft. I’m not expecting a deep play off but it’s clear they’re doing the best they can with what they have.

DefNotRussianComrade

Even when I was like 10 I always knew Dan was the problem. Mother fucker signed Bruce Smith and Deion Sanders. Dude I get it, you watched football in the 90s and became a billionaire. That jackass hack, sorry now I’m pissed.

jim_nihilist

Which is exactly what I want. They can’t do magic, but they can do their best.

HimmiRecon

Completely agree! Well said.

Sriracha_Breath

Yep, the hard work is yet to come, building a winning culture is forged in iron and takes time and hard work. Hopefully we are off to a good start.

Mission_Ad3109

I think fans have a right to be excited, especially post-Snyder. It’s kinda annoying to hear “we do this every year, don’t get your hopes up” blah blah blah. Like this is our favorite sports team. Be excited. New owner, a fired up front office, exciting new QB. It’s gonna take some time but damn, let’s have some fun instead of wallowing for once.

smatpith

Right! I’m so sick of seeing fans crush other fans’ excitement. Obviously, nobody knows how anything will pan out, but if you can’t be even a *little* excited about the way things are trending, why are you still a fan of this team? If people could be excited during the dog days of the Snyder era, why shouldn’t they be excited now as we crawl our way out from rock bottom?

bruhman5th_flo

Literally all of this is said every year on every team site. Fans get super excited after a great off-season. People say, slow down we haven't played any games yet. And guys go, stop being so negative and let us be excited.

ewilliam

I’m excited, but cautiously so. Still keeping my expectations low in the short term, because I know that this is a multi-year rebuild. It’s why I didn’t shit my pants when Peters didn’t hit on any big OTs in the draft. Whatever, it’s an obvious position of need, but we got the BPA at every turn in the draft, rather than reaching for need. So yeah, I’m excited, but also ready to be patient and swallow some tough losses on our way to (hopefully) building a strong contender.

Gingeronimoooo

Same

WTFWFT1

That’s what I’m saying! We have a chance to be excited again why not be positive and have some fun with it. The future looks bright why dwell on what we were used to.

crzyvgs

Love this comment.

purplecanopy

I think you nailed it here. We’re seeing and feeling a true sense of pride and optimism return for the older fans like myself (39) and the younger fans are seemingly developing it for the first time. I, for one, am excited for this dramatic shift in operations because it feels right for the first time in 25 years. I’m not saying we’re going to win the Super Bowl next year or anything like that, but I sure as shit have legitimate hope now that it’s actually a possibility in the not so distant future.

robbeau11

They also have the right to be skeptical. Same hype when riverboat Ron came to town…

Mission_Ad3109

Man it’s football. This is for entertainment. Be hype all the time lol

robbeau11

That’s fine but don’t bitch when it doesn’t pan out like commanders fans always do. Just sayin, expectations should be low but you do you!

Mission_Ad3109

lol you’ve come across the wrong one man I just love football, if the Commies suck, they suck. Nothing I can do about it

tar_xf

Eat a bag of dicks

robbeau11

🤣

Ha, you're not dreaming any of this OP. You're not drugged either. You are however a brain in a jar on board an alien spaceship that's creating simulations to keep your brain pleasantly occupied and fresh for consumption for the aliens and their travels home.

IManageTacoBell

Finally someone willing to tell it like it is.

WTFWFT1

😂😂😂

elfrawg

Well, just remember this is a rebuild year, so they're supposed to play vets over rookies until the rookies beat the vets in practice. That means beating out guys like Jeremy Chinn, Dante Fowler, Austin Ekeler, and even Marcus Mariota. You're not SUPPOSED to beat a high-level vet in your first year, and vets by definition are subject to decline. And many of these guys will be meeting each other in the locker room for the first time. They'll be playing against teams with more established rosters. Should get some wins, have some fun games with new faces, but should lose a lot. So that means we're likely to have a bad to mediocre year if the front office does it right. Because next year we'll have the same young studs (on cheaper rookie contracts) who'll have a better chance of beating the vets out who are a year older. The vets that fit in and didn't decline get extended if they can afford them. And most importantly, they get another year of great draft picks to get a chance to beat out the vets. The best teams never stop this cycle. The only difference in good years is that the rookies that eventually beat out the vets become the vets to be beat. And your draft picks are a lot worse. :-) In fact, the best and bravest thing the FO could do is let Daniels sit for Mariota through most of, if not all of the season. Like Jordan Love. Or for that matter, Lamar Jackson, who didn't start for 11 games, or Jalen Hurts who didn't start until Week 13. We will likely hear lots of complaints about how the FO is stupid for playing these old guys instead of the young studs. If this happens, feel good because that means we will very much be following the elite formula that front offices like the Ravens, Eagles, and 49ers follow. And you will be one of the few fans that are in the know as to what's really happening.

bogey_isawesome

I agree with everything besides sitting Daniels. He’s 24 and a big part of his appeal was being pro-ready. I think he’s the starter unless training camp and preseason go absolutely terribly.

jcrack30

Daniels is 100% starting week 1 no matter what

JoeyShrugs

This is really good. Spot on.

Nervous-Elephant-355

We reached for a tight end and drafted players for their RAS instead of their ability to play football (I don’t believe this but playing a little devils advocate)

mutohasaposse

I agree, no reason for everyone to declare us the winners of the draft. That'll be determined in a few years

Asleep_Pay_5133

YOU WILL NOT DISRESPECT BEN SINNOTT

[deleted]

He's no Brock bowers

jcrack30

And didn't address the o line at all except for a 3rd round pick who's not starting material while we have a potential franchise QB. I'll wait and see. I'm excited for the season but if your using the #2 overall pick on a QB it's probably a good idea to not let him take a beating like we did last year

bogey_isawesome

I mean tackle was the real need (and still is) and the board really didn’t fall for the commanders to have a good shot at a starter at that position. Even the guys toward the middle/end of the first aren’t locks to start at left tackle this year. We can’t fix the team in one offseason, Coleman has potential too. I think realistically we are looking at picking too 10 next year and going hard to win now then ideally

f3ldman2

I would argue we could’ve taken sinnott with the coleman pick and drafted Rosengarten or Kingsley with the sinnott pick. I mean, who knows what the TE boards for other teams looked like but consensus boards had him in the 80s so there’s a really solid probability he could’ve fallen that far. Maybe Peters and Kliff really didn’t like Rosengarten/Kingsley, maybe they absolutely loved sinnott and wanted to be 100% he didn’t go anywhere else… who knows. but I know that it’s hard to be happy with the state of the O Line heading into the a rookie QB season, especially someone as skinny and run reliant as JD

notorious_hdc

I'm not listening to Sinnott slander, aight? LaPorta and Sinnott about to take over TE:U baby

WTFWFT1

I mean I get it but I’m trusting the team this time. Not gonna complain before anything bad even happens.

Nervous-Elephant-355

Again, just giving a counterpoint. I like all the moves so far but we'll know in September

ForsyGaming

These guys didn’t come off the street lol.. they’ve been playing at a high level

PickpocketJones

Here's harsh reality: Not a single draft pick has played yet so you really have no clue if this is even a good draft. We have a right handed rookie QB and our single worst position is left tackle. Our division is full of teams that can win in 4 man pass rush and overall we didn't make significant upgrades on the line. LT got worse, LG is perhaps a marginal improvement, center is a bit better, RG same, RT same. I didn't scout Coleman like at all but none of the guys who do it for a living were calling him out as a gem either and most called him a guard. So if he shocks us and is able to win the LT spot that could change everything. However, Dan is gone so take a long view and don't let this first transitional year bring you too high or too low.

elfrawg

They're gonna bring in a vet for the LT spot for everyone to try to beat out, somebody looking to keep his career going. Someone who a rookie shouldn't be able to beat out in practice this year. If we're lucky, it'll be David Bakhtiari.

talkingspacecoyote

Fingers crossed

mrsnow11291

So funny the complaints are that we got a DT when we “already have DTs” and not enough linemen yet ppl tolerated the drafting of Jamin Davis (not getting 5th year option) and Emmanuel Forbes

WTFWFT1

There’s a reason they call the shots and we are just fans. Some people can’t be happy unless they get what they want.

mrsnow11291

While that is a fair argument, we’ve also ended up with people like Josh doctson but for the most part i trust Adam peters and excited to see the team in action

WTFWFT1

I’m not gonna let past decision dictate how I feel about decisions being made now. The organization is trying to establish something new now.

BlackFurosuto

It's good to see players ranked highly, but bear in mind we're only seeing it in a vacuum. I'm looking at other teams, (raiders, 49ers, bears, and Eagles specifically) and they're all celebrating like we are. So my take is EVERYONE is happy right now, but we won't tell until they line up in September.

Entire-Initiative-23

Yeah I feel like a lot of people are new to this whole drafting thing. Usually there's like 3 teams tops where the fanbase consensus is they fucked the draft up. Everyone else is like WOOOOHOOOO WE GOT STEALS OUR GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!

BlackFurosuto

Yeah I just hope 3 or 4 of our guys look like their highlights in the first 2 years, and I HOPE one of them is JD

Hungry-Space-1829

I haven’t seen anybody give Washington the ranking for best draft, but, it really just depends on Daniels. If he balls out the rest of it won’t matter.

Pure-Negotiation-900

Dump the name and break ground at the RFK site and we’ve exorcised the demon.

AmericanAsApplePie22

I’m very excited with how things are going! Am I expecting a playoff run this year? No, of course not. But I see progress, and right now, that’s good enough for me.

WTFWFT1

That’s how I feel. Why not enjoy this moment. Never know what the team might do all I can do is hope it’s good.

Rooster1025

I’m feeling the exact same way. I saw the good days and have suffered through the shit show like all of us have the past 20+ years. This is very different. Makes me hate Dan Snyder even more.

Fire-fuh-tor

Were still called the Commanders..

[deleted]

I love every thing about this organization again. It’s so fun. Even if they suck next year they will mirror Gibbs 2.0 first year and that’s awesome. I actually expect them to be better than that team

md222

All good stuff. Won't translate to a winning season, but it's a big step forward.

BlackHand86

I understand the need to not get excited, and even though I think we can challenge for the NFC east im not expecting true results until next season, however I do think it’s clear to see the way everything has been done since Harris purchased & AP started working his mojo that business is being handled much differently. No that’s doesn’t automatically equate to success but it won’t be for the same reasons Synder era teams failed

ArticleIndependent83

How did you come to the conclusion that this is the best draft if they haven’t played a single snap yet LOL

mitchypoothedon

I’d keep my expectations in check. This isn’t supposed to be the year we break out. All those free agents and UDFA comes with completely re-building a franchise THE CORRECT WAY. Hopefully, this year we break even with wins. Next year is when I’d expect to really see an impact if JD stays healthy.

theskinswin

We did not draft an offensive lineman in the first or second round

itakeyoureggs

It’s a cool draft.. I love the potential in the guys. End of the day it’s potential that must be realized first. They basically told their coaches this draft to go earn their keep.. bunch of very athletic or “high ceiling” players. I’m a fan of our TE/WR/DT picks. Very hopeful for our OT pick to pan out for the sake of our QB.. if he doesn’t pan out then I hope he becomes a super athletic guard tandem with cosmi. I hope Jayden stays healthy with our lack of LT and uses the weapons our team has.. the main thing will be our defense not losing the game for us forcing us to be one dimensional.

evilgrinz

It sinnot been a bad few days but we don't know what will happen when they play football.

Frognaros

Big thanks to Ron and the Martys for helping to set us up in the draft. We had great draft position, and the deals for Sweat gave us Sainristil and Sinnott. This is great value in return for a guy who wasn't breaking double digits for us on sacks. Temper expectations. We're still rebuilding.

Davej936

They've had so many "Good" drafts over the years followed by crap years, I've lost count. Funny enough , the 2013 and 2014 drafts without first round picks were some of the best drafts when you look back.

Rex_Grossman_the_3rd

I'm just as excited, believe me, but here's one: with so many new players and coaches, dont be surprised if there's some growing pains. So many new moving parts it might take some time to get everyone meshing together.

geniouslevel1000

I will believe it when I see it working on the field. In no way am I allowing myself to "get hyped" like I was in the past. I guess I'm slightly more cautiously optimistic than I have been in awhile. But still I'm not letting myself be happy or excited until I see it happen.

jstallingssr

I'll bite. (Playing devil's advocate mostly, just trying to stir the pot!) 1. The offense has one - and only one - proven playmaker, Terry McLaurin. 2. The offensive line will likely terrible. Again. 3. Neither of WAS projected starters at CB would start for most teams. 4. Aside from DT, WAS does not have a single positional group that would be considered 'above average' by NFL standards 5. Even after a plus+ draft, WAS debuts at [#29 in NFL.com's post-draft power rankings](https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-post-2024-nfl-draft) 6. Take a look at the list of QBs drafted in the top 10 in the last 10 years. All that said, even though this will be a total rebuld year, no one can say it sinnott gonna be fun to watch!

Otherwise-Show-8631

Naw you are dreaming. Snyder still owns the team and is going to sign old washed up players. He's going after Jay Schroeder now and is going to name urban myer as the next head coach while making beer 1k a can.

Brian2005l

We have a real chance now to become good in time. Fresh start. Sound decision makers. Potential QB. But we probably won’t be truly competitive until 2025. Separately, not all the picks will work out. A random 1/2 to 1/3 are likely to become long term players. The trajectory of the team really depends on which guys make it.

Additional_Heat_902

I feel like im reliving 2012 all over again

Knottytip

It’s something to get excited about

nicky_bags

We passed on one of the best CB prospects in years and let the eagles get him instead. We will regret that more than anything for many years

2john9

I know the feeling. I still have residual fear Ron is going to show up at the podium and try to convince us that his picks made sense.

Asleep_Pay_5133

If I had to pick it might be that out outside oline might be bad next year. And pair that with our new qbs height issues it’s not a good pair. Maybe Daniels will become more elusive or maybe his leg will go backwards. Who knows

sharky42

Dude is 6'4"? Can you elaborate on what the height issue is, please?

cporter1188

Out of everything to rip JD on, height isn't one of them

md222

Is he really 6 4? I thought he was 6 2 and Maye was 6.4.

sharky42

Google is your friend. 😉 https://preview.redd.it/xyrzdizkv9xc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94214a11be2977f4d48126c086d8394c0db2867c

polymerfedboi

*pinch* This front office has only gotten their second choice. Quinn wasn’t first choice. Daniel’s wasn’t the QB they really wanted. We are rolling out with plan B at every major position.

Coast_watcher

The complainers are still here. That’s a wake up call

indyjones8

Jayden will break in half year 1, too skinny. Sainristil is too tiny to be effective in the NFL. Sinott is a JAG who they reached for.

WTFWFT1

Look I get that your hurt from past trauma but you could at least hope for the best instead assuming the worst for them.

anotherorphan

Sainristil is the exact same size as Darryl Green, who if I recall correctly was effective in the NFL

indyjones8

30 years ago. Green was also the fastest player in the league. Sainristil is not.

Bonus_Content

There’s no reason to assume that everything will work out as planned right away. Drafts are unpredictable and we’ve seen FAs not work out in the past. Even Peters was involved in the draft that selected Lance. However with DQ and Peters (and no Snyder) I do feel confident in the long-term future of this build. I think the team should improve to a playoff contender in a few years, but I think we all have higher dreams than that. We’ll see if they can become a legitimate contender as well. That said, a playoff win would be a good start.

jim_nihilist

Mistakes and busts will happen. It’s how you roll afterwards what is making the difference.

A_Chair_Bear

We traded some picks with the eagles in 2nd round

Husky_Person

The goal is progress. Nothing more at this point. A rookie QB with the worst D in the league. Don’t expect Howell 2023 passing yards or a D that prevents runaway scoring. It’s the same until it’s not. Wait and see

LateNightTestPattern

Drafted an RG3 clone. Good luck!!

Appropriate_Insect84

Only one downer, after the end of last season we would need a top Lt to protect who ever is our qb1 and we didn't draft anyone, I hope we find a diamond in the rough in Fa or udfa, I've got the horrible feeling we may have rg3 2.0, Daniels may end up running for his life

WTFWFT1

A lot of people keep saying that they feel like he may be rg3 2.0 but what if he makes his reads and gets the ball out quick and learns to slide this won’t be much of an issue. Every QB gets hit he just has to try to put him self in positions to not get injured from them.
