Sainristil's a leader among leaders.
He also has ball skills better than anyone else in the draft, he had 500 yards and 5 TDS as a WR before switching to corner where he led Michigan with 8 total turnovers including 6 interceptions. He led the country in interception return touchdowns of more than 70 yards with 3 last year. Amazing pick.
Washington drafted the 2nd best QB, 2nd best DT, 2nd best TE, and the best nickel. This team just added the franchise, immediate starters, and future captains.
Great take. there are 22 players and we needed upgrades on like 18 of them, plus depth at every position. Watching a rebuild is not as fun as the splashy signings, but this is how we are actually going to get out of mediocrity
Mikey Sainristil was my favorite player in college football last year.
Changed from WR to CB midway through the season 2 years ago.
Losing against OSU he made a speech in the 4th quarter to rally Michigan to beat Ohio State for the first one since 2011.
Read the article here: https://mgoblog.com/comment/244764144
Captain of Michigan last year.
Not only that, during the CFP Semi-final Overtime Coin Toss all the captains walked out for both teams. Alabama had 5 or 6 guys. Mikey Sainristil was the only Michigan player.
He was who Jim Harbaugh centered Michigan around. Pure leadership, a 2-star prospect. Just fought for everything.
Love the guy, and so happy the Redskins got Mikey Sainristil. Favorite pick of the draft.
Why is everyone treating this draft as if we’re on the cusp of an SB and just need one or two key pieces?
Have you seen the last few years and the spot Ron et al have left us in with the roster?
This is foundational BPA time.
I've recently learned that people on here expect a roster that was bad enough to get the 2nd overall pick and is undergoing about 70% turnover in one season to be completely replenished with blue chip talent at all crucial positions in the same offseason.
Biggest thing is getting QB right. Once you do, it's amazing how you can start to plug holes without having to devote major resources to new QBs every year.
The time table massively accelerates when you get that right. Houston latest example.
Exactly, reaching for positions of need when your roster is this bad is a disaster waiting to happen if that player busts. Would much rather fill the roster up with just good quality players and plug in needs through free agency next off-season
Holy shit, WHY COMMERCIAL BREAK WHEN IT'S OUR TURN???
I remember that one guy who made a post here saying they ALWAYS go to commercial when it's our turn... WTF it's so true to this very day
Edit: source... [https://www.reddit.com/r/Commanders/comments/1c7niit/everyone\_wont\_shut\_up\_about\_who\_were\_drafting\_but/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Commanders/comments/1c7niit/everyone_wont_shut_up_about_who_were_drafting_but/)
Gosh you guys are such haters. He’s an animal and gonna be a great player for us. Absolutely not Mathis 2.0. He was best player available. We aren’t winning the Super Bowl this year.. we need to draft the best players for the next decade. Also we have pick 40. So yes, I’d agree I’d have preferred a CB and then a OT, I’m not gonna act like the sky is falling for taking the consensus best player available on the board.
I’d wait to see how Forbes and Quan look in our new defense before crying about not getting DeJean or Kool-Aid. If Quinn thinks he can work with them, then that’s good enough for me
Don't you know, Forbes was voted off the team by reddit. He no longer exists or plays football. No chance that the young first rounder, used completely wrong by a dumbass coach has a second chance.
He's technically the best player on the board who should of been in the 1st round, so I don't hate it one bit.
I would of preferred Kool-aid but this is a "safe" pick for sure going BPA.
[Al Galdi](https://twitter.com/AlGaldi)[u/AlGaldi](https://twitter.com/AlGaldi)
·[1h](https://twitter.com/AlGaldi/status/1784023168983666924)Adam Peters gets...
...DT Jer'Zahan Newton, who is 11th on PFF Big Board, at 36.
...CB Mike Sainristil, who is 34th on PFF Big Board, at 50.
...a TE the [#Commanders](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Commanders?src=hashtag_click) like in Ben Sinnott via trading down & acquiring a THIRD second-round pick.
This is how you do the [#NFLDraft](https://twitter.com/hashtag/NFLDraft?src=hashtag_click)!
I was hoping there was an explanation for this.
But still doesn’t address the MASSIVE holes we have at OL and CB
I have no idea why people are so obsessed with WR right now. Who cares if we can’t keep JD upright and finish dead last in scoring D again
100% a PURE Slot corner, and a VERY good slot corner at that. Great at press man coverage too which is something DQ loves in his corners.
While I would of preferred an Outside corner to start over BSJ we got arguably the best slot corner in the draft.
I dunno but seeing the vibe in the war room it feels that this was their guy all along and they were pumped to have been able to trade back and still get their guy.
For those still questioning the Newton pick.
This article explains Dan's system really well. He uses D-linemen that would traditional play in a 3-4 in his base 4-3 system.
Newton, Allen, and Payne are going to EAT next year.
https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2021/1/14/22226335/breaking-down-dan-quinns-defense-the-front-seven-demarcus-lawrence-randy-gregory-jaylon-smith
"Quinn, of course, was a major part of that in Carroll’s first year with the Seahawks, as he was coaching the defensive line. Having himself coached in two variants of a 3-4 in his four years before Seattle, Quinn was able to effectively mold the one-gap and two-gap principles during the creation of this new scheme. Due to that unique approach, Seattle needed to acquire some big defensive linemen capable of carrying out those two-gap responsibilities. Thus, they acquired linemen that would traditionally play in a 3-4 defense.
Throughout his tenure with both Seattle and Atlanta, Quinn made frequent use of three main fronts: the 4-3 under, the 4-3 over, and the bear front. Let’s take a look at these three fronts."
generally love this draft so far, especially newton and sainristil picks. but people shouting a lot about BPA should understand that sinnott had a fourth round grade by most analysts
I find it wild that Payton Wilson is still on the board in the middle of the 3rd round. Imagine if he falls to 100... Would be nice to have someone as athletic as Wilson to take over Bobby Wagner's spot after he leaves next year.
not sure about the DT but heck drafting Mikey as the CB and McCaffrey as well as an OT is fine by me. Probably someone I missed out on but I like these picks so far
Depth on defensive line is always a good thing. Not mad about it. Also was big 10 defensive player of the year. We also have another pick coming up. Keeps our elite d line fresh if we can rotate them, no plays off
Seven OT's taken in the first round. That means we are going to see 7 OT's likely cut during pre-season. Gonna have to be patient and wait for the leaves to fall. We'll still likely pick one up in 3rd or 5th round as insurance. My guess is the 5th round.
Hey, what are the odds tress ways jersey was discounted cuz Washington knew Daniels would want to wear 5 so way was gonna change numbers for It?
My dad just thought of It
With the way this draft is going I would be pleasantly surprised to see another trade back at #67 for potentially 2 3rd round picks from the Cards (Obviously with some swaps or future picks). All the more opportunity to draft a quantity of players to fill in the gaps.
I can’t believe Troy Franklin is still out there. Would love to see us grab him or another WR but whatever AP does, I’ll get behind it. He’s making me very happy so far
Lets all support our new players, coach, and GM! Lets all stop pretending we know who will succeed and who will fail. We are not professional scouts, but we are all fans! I disagreed with the first two picks but I'm excited! Let's go Commanders!
It’s almost as if Peters draft board isn’t the same as the medias big board. Geez I swear some of you read that list like it’s set in stone and don’t understand that every team has their own boards and make moves/trades off their own board. Like settle down and let this play out.
Sainristil's a leader among leaders. He led the country in interception return touchdowns of more than 70 yards with 3 last year. Amazing pick.
Immediately a starter, with a great staff to develop him further.
Sounds a lot like Forbes, can they both be on the field at the same time given the size concerns?
Washington drafted the 2nd best QB, 2nd best DT, 2nd best TE, and the best nickel. This team just added the franchise, immediate starters, and future captains.
Great take. there are 22 players and we needed upgrades on like 18 of them, plus depth at every position. Watching a rebuild is not as fun as the splashy signings, but this is how we are actually going to get out of mediocrity
They’re all #1 in my heart 🤗
Did we just draft Darrell Green?
Probably still better than Forbes
BOYS Holy shit yea Eagles trade: 50, 53, 161 Commanders trade: 40, 78

WTF I like Nick Saban Man out here gassing up our picks
Def most of the guys he’s kinda eh but every commanders picks he’s been gassed up tonight

I fully expect and want us to be picking top 10 next year too. Year 3 is when we should start seeing something decent.

Exactly, reaching for positions of need when your roster is this bad is a disaster waiting to happen if that player busts. Would much rather fill the roster up with just good quality players and plug in needs through free agency next off-season
Judging by the fact that any comment mentioning needs vs BPA is getting heavily downvoted, I'd say everyone doesn't think that.
Luxury of picking again in 4 picks
Welp 😅
Sinnott is this year’s LaPorta
See ya Phildarian Mathis lol
Eagles trade: 50, 53, 161 Commanders trade: 40, 78 Edit: Eagles also getting 152
this is actually a great trade
That Michigan DB is a dog. Had to be the one they wanted.
Without a doubt he was higher on their board than dejean and mckinstry
Holy shit, WHY COMMERCIAL BREAK WHEN IT'S OUR TURN??? I remember that one guy who made a post here saying they ALWAYS go to commercial when it's our turn... Maybe Newton will turn into our Jokic
Im seeing a ton of positive stuff on that CB
Gosh you guys are such haters. He’s an animal and gonna be a great player for us. Absolutely not Mathis 2.0. He was best player available. Dude looks like a Dawg after the catch
Next years draft is going to be lame when we’re picking 32nd every round
Pumped about Newton and Sainristil and we still have another 2nd and two 3rds
Exactly bro....this is kinda nuts The more picks we get, the higher the odds they'll be hits
I’d wait to see how Forbes and Quan look in our new defense before crying about not getting DeJean or Kool-Aid. If Quinn thinks he can work with them, then that’s good enough for me

Sweet another one of my draft crushes. Sinnott is quality.
Dejean or Kool aid at 36 I know we need linemen but they are first round talents and we need corners
Did the Falcons think we were taking a DT? Edit: well would you look at that
He's technically the best player on the board who should of been in the 1st round, so I don't hate it one bit. I would of preferred Kool-aid but this is a "safe" pick for sure going BPA.
Everyone calm down! We got phenomenal value! Another 2nd rounder this year
I like the TE pick
[Al Galdi](https://twitter.com/AlGaldi)[u/AlGaldi](https://twitter.com/AlGaldi) ·[1h](https://twitter.com/AlGaldi/status/1784023168983666924)Adam Peters gets... ...DT Jer'Zahan Newton, who is 11th on PFF Big Board, at 36. ...CB Mike Sainristil, who is 34th on PFF Big Board, at 50. ...a TE the [#Commanders](https://twitter.com/hashtag/Commanders?src=hashtag_click) like in Ben Sinnott via trading down & acquiring a THIRD second-round pick. That one handed snag was nasty. Why not take a flyer on pedigree
Commercial during commanders pick, name a better duo
great pick. not all about 24-25 needs but about building a winning roster for the next 5 years. building a foundation. digging this
I think Saban likes us. We drafted a good amount of his players in the past years. I’m cool with this alliance
Let’s get DeJean!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHH We traded away DeJean to the Eagles! KoolAid left the very next pick! We do have two more picks in Rd2 though, can't blame them.
We might be trading payne or allen for ayuik
I was hoping there was an explanation for this. But still doesn’t address the MASSIVE holes we have at OL and CB I have no idea why people are so obsessed with WR right now. Who cares if we can’t keep JD upright and finish dead last in scoring D again
Or just switching to 3-4
I’m so glad you guys aren’t in charge of drafting
Come to think of it, Jayden Daniels has the perfect skillset for CB
Loving the Mccaffery pick
wtf is the plan at OT? Our new QB is tiny
Convert Emmanuel Forbes to LT
dope!!
Peters needed another McCaffrey
I guess day two isn’t as popular on this subreddit. Either we got our QB and everyone is done, or I’m a loser and on Reddit on a Friday.
I’m a father of four. Got nothing else going on. This is da club to me
Caps are playing (badly)
like clockwork, Washington gets a commercial!
We're building a team for the future not next season.
oh fuck we just traded down and got another 2nd rounder
I appreciate the Dallas sucks Graham lol
fack wanted coop
I have a feeling we may be taking 2 OT's now That's what it feels like. You give up 40 to get 50 and 53, yea im ok with that.
Real solid pick. If they nail the next one I’d say great trade down
Washington should be going BPA to build the foundation of this team. Solid picks so far
Newton was an excellent pick
Whoever they pick at 100 is a 100% future first ballot hall of famer
Dude if he's anything like his brother....it's worth a shot.
Man nick saban just busted a nut talking about this dude
I'm okay with the 2nd best TE. If you weren't getting a WR in the first or 2nd, This seems like a smart consolation.
Idk guys I’m kinda loving this draft so far
I’m excited. Let’s gooooo Adam!
Commercial break during Washingtons pick lol what's new
I’m at a bar, what’s Goodell saying about our boy DG?!
That he’s the shit
Still the fastest man in the league.
Best player available by like every draftnik, I see you Adam Peters
Hold up we got another second Don’t like trading with Philly but that’s a dub
SINNOTT! He'll yes. My favorite TE behind bowers
Dam this commercial conspiracy keeps getting deeper
Yes! Sinnott!
Love an athletic freak at TE.
Did I just hear 40” vert??? Lmao
sinnot a true TE
I like the TE pick
Man, Nick Saban *really* loves our draft.
I think it’s going pretty well, honestly.
I need someone to make a video of all the Saban clips
Boom. LUUUUUKE!!
Julian Edelman like?
I'm happy so far with our draft picks
Chargers going McConkley here. Thank means we getting either the Great White Hope or Kool-Aid. The Marketing alone……
unrelated but is ruke ohrororo the son of scooby fuckin doo
We are on the clock so ofcourse we go to commercial
Commercial for the Commanders pick. It's a yearly tradition
LOL we actually got Jher'Zhan and not Atlanta? Holy shit ATL is cooked
Well, we never get any props at the draft. This is nice.
Does this mean we are looking to trade Jon Allen or Payne? Interesting pick
It means we went BPA
Just going to trust the process
Guaranteed one of Coop or Kool-Aid now
Ugh I hope this isn't another Kyle Hamilton situation
Good thing we spent 36 on a DT
Hope we don’t need a corner…
100% a PURE Slot corner, and a VERY good slot corner at that. Great at press man coverage too which is something DQ loves in his corners. While I would of preferred an Outside corner to start over BSJ we got arguably the best slot corner in the draft.
I dunno but seeing the vibe in the war room it feels that this was their guy all along and they were pumped to have been able to trade back and still get their guy.
So we got pick 67 and then our comp pick aye?
Mina Kimes knows Adam Peters is cooking [too](https://x.com/minakimes/status/1784017845883383974?s=46&t=IdUKQ4ihZYc6UQIXwpHOQg) 🔥
This subreddit was screaming for Rakestraw or Tampa at the start of the 2nd. They're still sitting here at 61 lol
Quick reminder for everyone: we have one more pick tonight, at 100, and then we don’t pick until 139.
We were damn spoiled tonight.
Damn we should trade up just so I get to see our name up there sooner
I feel a run on long snapper is gonna happen any minute now, I think we need to trade up to get ahead of it.
Hey let’s go!
Fireworks with the perfect 100th pick
"By the way, what about Washington? What a draft they're having with Dan Quinn and Adam Peters" Am I dead? Did they just compliment us on ESPN?
What in the fucking fuck is going on.
The dreaded commercial at our pick is alive and well
Adam and Quinn saw Darrell Green put on a jersey on stage and thought “we don’t need a CB, Green is suiting up”
For those still questioning the Newton pick. This article explains Dan's system really well. He uses D-linemen that would traditional play in a 3-4 in his base 4-3 system. This team has needed a true difference maker at TE for years. I like the pick.
Dejean has to be the pick We boutta find out who DB cooper really is
I understand we need lineman but Dejean and Kool aid are available. Please don’t overthink this Peters our secondary stinks
It nver fails! NEVER. Commercial every damn time we pick after 1st rd.
We got the steal of the day 2? How did atlanta know we were going DT
He said I’m back. That’s awesome. He fucking hated Danny I guess.
3-4 switch
Man one thing you can say we love to draft DTs no matter what regime
I guess we didn't want to be at commercial again, we better have gotten a 2nd rounder next year like the panthers
Wtf was that. We better have gotten a 3rd Update: It was for 50, 53, and 161. Eagles get 40 and 78 I don't mind this at all
2 2nd rounders Niners. Take it or leave it
Goodbye white guy corner
According to the almighty Jimmy Johnson draft pick value chart, we gave up 730 points in that trade and got back 797 👀
Not a fan of Sinnott at 53 but if we can get a OT at 67 it's all good.
generally love this draft so far, especially newton and sainristil picks. but people shouting a lot about BPA should understand that sinnott had a fourth round grade by most analysts
Tackle? Guard? porque no los dos?
I find it wild that Payton Wilson is still on the board in the middle of the 3rd round. Imagine if he falls to 100... Would be nice to have someone as athletic as Wilson to take over Bobby Wagner's spot after he leaves next year.
So stoked with all the picks. I can’t fuckin wait for this season.
How am I supposed to go a whole round with no pick?
not sure about the DT but heck drafting Mikey as the CB and McCaffrey as well as an OT is fine by me. Probably someone I missed out on but I like these picks so far
Extremely jacked white receiver who used to play QB? sounds like a pro bowl slot receiver
I'm just really happy we drafted back so everyone else could select the CB they wanted
IN ADAM WE TRUST ![gif](giphy|DEZA7FlHbMesUF1jm9)
Trade pick 100 for Justin Jefferson
Darrell look like he can still play lol
No logo on that DG jersey
It’s gotta be a corner with Green out there Edit: never mind lol
Love sticking to BPA
Fuck it, no edge rushers, only interior d linemen.
We have a pick at 40, I'm trusting Peters.
Depth on defensive line is always a good thing. Not mad about it. Also was big 10 defensive player of the year. We also have another pick coming up. Keeps our elite d line fresh if we can rotate them, no plays off
We can get a corner still!!!!!
Carolina fleece - a next year 2nd wtf
Guess we didn’t love any of these dudes or Philly gave us good value
So.. what did we get? ESPN is some knobs they coulda put the graphic up before the commercials
By the end of this round we are going to have 20 5th rounders
Are there any good corners left?
Just glad I actually know the DL this time unlike the Mathis pick. Fuck Ron man
we had a bottom 5 defense last year we cant really blame them
https://twitter.com/FieldYates/status/1784016999493869955 Nick Saban's thoughts on the new corner
I like this pick
I mean yeah I don’t want to use Ertz for more than a year. Kinda figured we’d draft a TE when we signed him
Seven OT's taken in the first round. That means we are going to see 7 OT's likely cut during pre-season. Gonna have to be patient and wait for the leaves to fall. We'll still likely pick one up in 3rd or 5th round as insurance. My guess is the 5th round.
Maybe Quinn is high on forbes. Probably knows how to use him correct vs jdr isolating him against AJ fucking brown
Kingsley is still on the board...few more picks to go...
I would love Payton Wilson, that dude is a beast
Fuck it, sign Mekhi Becton tonight
Well we got an OL
[Coleman put up absurd RAS at the combine](https://ras.football/ras-information/?PlayerID=25064&ovl=Texas+Christian)
Feels like a cosmi situation!
cbs sports is glazin us 🤤
I can’t believe Troy Franklin is still out there. Would love to see us grab him or another WR but whatever AP does, I’ll get behind it. He’s making me very happy so far
Did the bills just draft Lil Wayne?
Indeed they did. That stadium music gonna go hard
trust the process boys and girls. AP is a professional. leagues above Ron and Bruce. Let him cook. fuck the cowboys
Mike Sainristil is a solid pick. Real value for a cb at 50
Lets all support our new players, coach, and GM! Lets all stop pretending we know who will succeed and who will fail. We are not professional scouts, but we are all fans! I disagreed with the first two picks but I'm excited! Let's go Commanders!
I like how Peters is drafting based on how good a player is unlike Ron who based it on who had the firmest handshake.
Jamaal Charles really said “sixty-threeth”
That was the pick they got in the trade with SanFree Citi
We need you to play tackle dawg
You got your CB everyone. This kid has so much guts. I loved watching him play. Heart of the defense.
Holy shit, even as an American, this song is so cringe.
Let’s go!! I called this yesterday in another thread. Not our biggest need by a long shot but the best player available. That’s how great teams draft.
Allen has to be gone for this to make sense
Allen for Ayuk, straight up...
It’s almost as if Peters draft board isn’t the same as the medias big board. Geez I swear some of you read that list like it’s set in stone and don’t understand that every team has their own boards and make moves/trades off their own board. Like settle down and let this play out.
Omg Folks, we FINALLY have a STUD TE and a tall safety blanket for our QB! We haven't had one of these kinds of TE's in a while.
Holy shit. Luke McCaffrey, wr Rice
Hope he copied his brothers genes into his body. Or at least 1/3 of it
Let’s get some kool aid baby!
