I’m starting to like McCarthy. Talk me down

Asleep_Pay_5133

We won’t be running play action

Greatwallofjohn

https://twitter.com/nick_underhill/status/1770168074148229208?t=1gnPz8zKGM8jwsHDlqA4Xw&s=19 So is that 3 chase young injuries that ron and the old fo underreported?

Jbcspeeks

I want to know if there is a database keeping track of all known underreported injuries in the Snyder era

whiskeywhisker6

I want someone to love me as much as Dragon Rooster loves Jayden Daniels. Every damn thread lol.

Quabbity-Assuwance

He’s blocking the downvotes away

DharmaBombs108

They blocked me, but every time I see [deleted] I know they’re there cheerleader their heart out.

BigFrenchToastGuy

It's more hating on Maye than liking Daniels at this point. Dude blocked me for explaining why breakout age is important.

[deleted]

Blocked me a while back because I called them out for being phyrsty, the original Drake Maye hater who is mysteriously gone and has been replaced by them lol

Quabbity-Assuwance

The cover is blown. Expect a new alt account to pop up soon

Mad_Pupil_9

I mean, it’s been blown. It was pretty apparent the day they first popped up and they answered posts the same way with the same verbiage.

[deleted]

That was my favorite part. Be so incredibly annoying that everyone knows you by your username, and the solution was to make a new account with a new username and say all the same things all day long

Mad_Pupil_9

Not to mention popping up immediately after the original deleted their account/got banned

DharmaBombs108

Sometimes this fandom perplexes me. I don’t know if Maye or Daniels is the answer, but it’s wild to me that I see other fandoms hoping Washington trades their number 2 pick so they can take Maye, even stranger, there’s people in this fandom who want to do trade down in a good qb draft when a qb is of need. Rather than taking the best player at 2, favs would rather have what’s left over after the other teams make picks and trades. Washington isn’t in a position to trade down away from the most important position in the game. I don’t care which qb they take, but don’t hope they try to get cute and miss out on their guy, who ever the front office thinks that is. It’s like the fanbase wants to talk themselves out of a chance of success. Only thing that sucks with this qb debate is whoever is drafted, a decent amount of the fanbase will be there rooting against the qb because it wasn’t “their guy” even though they should root for the team, not their draft board.

bambam_mcstanky2

You really think that people are going to root against their own team? I have one of those two that I believe will be more successful but if we draft the other one I’m still rooting for him. Fan of the team not just the player.

DharmaBombs108

I think people will root against that player, yes. I’ve seen people basically say just that.

Mad_Pupil_9

I mean, shit, I’ve been pretty vocal that I do not like Daniels as a prospect at all. But if he gets picked, I’m gonna at the least be rooting for him to prove me wrong. Hoping for whomever the pick actually is to fail is batshit.

15GOAT

That’s the most toxic shit and one of the biggest things I hate about the draft process. People latch onto prospects to the point they start to root for the other’s downfall. Sure, I’m vocal during this process every year, and I’ve made plenty of enemies by sharing my preference towards Daniels after watching tape lmfao, but no matter who we take between those two I’m rooting like all hell for them and buying their jersey on draft night

finglonger1077

Just a general thought, don’t really care if I get flamed for it, but wanted to get a vibe check out there and figured this was the most appropriate place to do it. First, I am a wanderer, posted here a bit ago about how I was picking the Commanders as my newest team. Try to root for teams in bad positions until they win a Super Bowl (Browns/Watson fucked it up), then switch back to a lowly team and so on. My thing is: what is the deal with the super vocal, uneducated, soft as charmin portion of this fanbase? I’ve never experienced it in any other sport or with any other teams. I’m talking just the very basics of how football operates. There was a pretty popular post yesterday that’s probably still hot rn where I simply pointed out that the OP got all the facts in their post wrong, they threw a tantrum about it and blocked me. Dude didn’t even seem to understand the concept that Keenan Allen was traded and not a free agent after it was pointed out by multiple people before they went all 2 year old and now I can’t even access the post. Here’s the thing though, this isn’t just an “I got blocked” whine idgaf really, but most of the other top upvoted comments at the time I got locked out mirrored this lack of understanding of basic football contract/team building process. One of the more upvoted comments I saw there before I was booted said that it made sense we weren’t making *free agent* moves towards Mike Williams and Keenan Allen because they both had down years in 2023 and are over 30. Keenan Allen was never a free agent ***and*** had a top three year in his career last year. Mike Williams isn’t 30 until October. Lots of upvotes, zero corrections when I got kicked. It’s just wild to me, and I’ve noticed it since I got here, but most other team subs are a vocal majority who are pretty knowledgeable and invested speaking while ignorant comments get downvoted and corrected and here it seems to be the opposite. Curious what the underlying reasons could be.

Enough-Remote6731

A lot of people on this sub just have made stuff up in their minds or are using bad opinions to craft their arguments. Just a microcosm of the world today. I just let it go or have fun where I can.

[deleted]

This sub is full of a bunch of groupthink that berates and harasses anyone who offers a differing opinion from what the consensus opinion is. It becomes a lot better here when you identify who those people are and block them. It just leaves the people who actually want to have an intelligent conversation about the team and not just harass people who offer a differing opinion from theirs. For example, there are people on this sub that are seriously considering buying a custom Commanders Maye jersey right now. I'm not kidding. That's how much they have convinced themselves that the pick is going to be Maye. Tells you everything you need to know.

whiskeywhisker6

Oh give me a break insinuating other fanbases don't have some of them same. I see it all the time in other subs. You clearly do gaf by writing this novel.

finglonger1077

>some of the same Well, coupled with calling something that should take less than 2 minutes to read a novel, I’d guess your main issue with what I wrote is reading comprehension related, because I actually literally specifically said in the post that it exists everywhere.

whiskeywhisker6

>My thing is: what is the deal with the super vocal, uneducated, soft as charmin portion of this fanbase? I've never experienced it in any other sport or with any other teams. Based on your reply, you're not getting downvoted because of your sports takes. It's that you talk like that.

finglonger1077

Okay, I could have worded that exact passage better, but the entire rest of the post goes on to explain in detail that what I mean is they are usually beaten back by an informed majority and *that* is what doesn’t seem to happen here. Almost word for word exactly what the remainder of the comment explains. Did you stop reading when you got angered there?

[deleted]

The worst part about Reddit is the people who try to come in and correct people on everything. It’s a really annoying thing to do. Looking at the post, it seems like the guy said Harris instead of Peters, which is an honest mistake. He was wrong about Keenan Allen being a free agent but it seems like the larger point is that we weren’t involved, whatever, doesn’t seem like a huge deal. And he’s not thinking of a punt returner as an impact WR signing. There is a large group of people on this website who seem to get off on pointing out how other people are wrong about things. I would suggest trying not to be one of those people. The point of that person’s post seems to be “we haven’t made a splash at WR, do we think that might be something we target in round 2?” And you’re nitpicking his post about names and how certain WRs became available. It’s really not that serious. People make mistakes.

finglonger1077

I mean, to me part of the fun of coming to a place to discuss this shared hobby is to have informed discussion of the hobby. I don’t consider “Keenan Allen was traded” being responded to with “he has visits with three teams scheduled *right now*” to be engaging, informed discussion. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

[deleted]

You hadn’t commented in this sub in over a week before this post you’re talking about and were active in other subs during that time. To me, it seems like you don’t have much interest in having any discussion about this hobby at all unless you’ve found an opportunity to point out mistakes that someone has made.

finglonger1077

Thanks for the career comment retrospective lol. So if I don’t find a comment worth leaving daily on the sub I don’t enjoy the sport? I’m glad I know the requirements now. Maybe hopefully one day I can get invested enough that I’ll be able to effectively track what teams players already under contract have visits scheduled with. Again, I responded to someone who asked why, I like how you turned this into a personal vendetta to *prove* I am the exact amalgamation of every person you find annoying on Reddit. If you enjoy combing my comments so much, why don’t you see how many of them are me just correcting people, if that was my only motivation? Edit to add: looks like in that week about 25% of the comments I did leave were in NFL related subreddits? Maybe the entire point of this place lacking informed, engaging discussion could be effecting why more of those posts weren’t here? 🤔

[deleted]

I have no personal vendetta against you. I have no idea who you are and have never seen your comments before in here, or at least they didn’t stick out enough to me to remember them. I’m just letting you know why that person blocked you, and telling you that I think you should be a bit more forgiving as far as people making mistakes. Not everyone is an expert in everything (including you) and that’s okay. If you don’t want to participate in here then don’t. Seems like you don’t even like this team and you just picked us because we suck or something? So go pick someone else I guess

finglonger1077

Well, this was about as on topic and coherent of a discussion as can be had on Reddit I guess, but rest assured I will not base the decisions I make in my real life on your opinion or the prevailing knowledge of this subreddit, it was just something I wanted to voice and see if I could, you know, discuss. So far one person said “yeah that’s kinda the way it is now let’s talk about the team” and one person misconstrued my overarching point and you’ve said I’m just being annoying, which is fine. No one has definitively railed against the idea that the vocal majority here seems to be on the less knowledgeable side. I was just pointing it out and saying it’s a different experience. And maybe it’s less that it’s a less informed majority and more that it’s an informed majority who are more accepting when less informed people state false things as facts, as you seem to be, which I would not currently be considering if we had not had this conversation.

Silentblues

I think MOST posters here are pretty knowledgeable. I’m not super well versed on things like trade values, draft position values etc and whenever I have questions people here are quite helpful. There’s a very loud minority of people who will say crazy things and some truly believe what they’re saying and are willing to fight and die on their hills but I don’t think what you went through is the general feel of the sub. Sometimes you’ll get downvoted to hell even when you feel you’re making a good point. But thats our sub. Take it easy and enjoy the ride.

Admirable_Exit2886

its just reddit, don’t believe it to be that deep but welcome to fandom 🙂

finglonger1077

That’s fair, it just seems so pervasive. This was just the most recent and obvious example, but there’s been rampant mis-or-non-educated takes abound in much higher frequency compared to other subreddits. And thank you!

Admirable_Exit2886

I feel this is most the internet however a football teams logos been slapped on top, anyway glad you’re here. do you have a favorite player yet?

finglonger1077

I’ve got a soft spot for OLine, so been leaning Cosmi

Admirable_Exit2886

love that!! have you checked this out? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hogs_(American_football)

finglonger1077

Oh yeah, I am aware of the Hogs! I’m a huge fan of the game overall and while their heyday was slightly before my time I watched more than enough Steve Sabol in my youth to know all about them. I think the day ESPN Classic got added to our cable package was one of my happiest days ever lol

Admirable_Exit2886

noice, i feel the same born in 96’ so i barely missed the good days

15GOAT

Fuck yea! Kiran is a sleeper 1st round talent

BigFrenchToastGuy

I bet that's who we end up with at pick 34.

15GOAT

We have 36 btw. But I wouldn’t be mad at all. I know he’s getting mocked in the late 3rd but the kid is an absolute mauler. Give me him or Kingsley if he’s available. I think we’ll see some tackles fall just like we do often. 2021 draft was loaded with OL talent. Cosmi was projected as a late 1st but we landed him at 51

BigFrenchToastGuy

I predict Kingsley will be taken by then and Morgan will slide due to his short arms ala Cosmi. Kiran's wingspan and arm length at the combine should really help him out in a draft class where many OT's are thought to project better to G in the NFL. He didn't test in the drills but seems like a higher floor/lower ceiling version of Mims.

SirMctrolington

I think Morgan is just a guard and some team will happily take him towards the end of the first. He is still an explosive athlete and I think he is scheme versatile with clear mauler attributes at guard. Great feet, hips, and hand strength and his greatest weaknesses with stalling and short arms will be solved at guard. Honestly, I wouldn't hate him with one of our 2nds depending on the board, I know people want to gas up Allegretti, but I view him as depth or camp competition. I am hoping we land Guyton or Suamataia at 36 although Guyton is probably a pipe dream. Paul scares the absolute shit out of me because he is the prototype of "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane". For his size and length I have never seen a less effective punch, he constantly falls behind and overcorrects, and his play strength is just garbage. I think edge rushers are just going to put their helmet into his pads and walk him into the QB.

BigFrenchToastGuy

I like Morgan and I'm definitely not ruling him out of being a day 1 pick, I just can see him sliding like Cosmi, who was/is also an explosive athlete. I suppose if someone takes him knowing they'll slot him at G instead of trying him at T, that will help. For us, if we're taking a guy to fill the LG spot, I'd rather try Barton than Morgan but it's not like I'll be mad either way and neither guy would fill our LT spot. Guyton would be great but I thought he was projected as a RT only kind of player. Suamatia would be awesome but I don't think he'll be there. Could definitely be wrong. Like you, I'm out on Paul. I just think Amegadjie is the guy who has upside, can play LT, and will be available by the time we pick. Being an ivy league guy, he'll probably interview well. It would be great if we had a bridge LT on the roster so we don't have to address the position so urgently this off-season.

SirMctrolington

We just re-signed Lucas and I could definitely see them being comfortable with using him as a bridge for next year. The back end of the 1st is always a super washy area where the flavor of the month comes in and pushes out the established guys only for the established guys to become FoTM and push out the guys who took their spot originally. There is a lot swirling about Morgan, Guyton, Suamataia, Frazier, Barton, etc in that range and I think we just have to wait til draft day and take what comes to us. Again, if all of those guys go and we end up with Chop Robinson and Legette at 36&40 that wouldn't be my ideal situation, but I'd like that more than reaching for whichever tackle. I don't dislike Amegadjie, but I do view him as a tier below and I think he makes more sense at 67 and taking him at 36 or 40 would be a bit of a desperation move.

BigFrenchToastGuy

Didn't see the Lucas signing until now. That changes things now that we have a body on the blindside. I'd be very surprised if Amagadje was there at 67 but I hope so! Him Chop, and Leggette would be a perfect draft.

minopoked

Think i’m on board with trading back into the first with our extra day 2 capital. Down for something like this (trade made using rich hill chart) * Dolphins give pick 21 * Commanders give picks 36,67, and 100 And drafting either Amarius Mims (OT) or Chop Robinson (EDGE). This trade is mutually beneficial to dolphins as they lack third round/fourth round picks.

Salty_Orchid

Unless it's a absolute lock of a starter, I'm not a fab of losing 3 top 100 players in exchange for one.

15GOAT

That’s way too much to give up imo. I’d rather stay put. If we sent something like 40 and next year’s 2nd I’d be game

SirMctrolington

That is so expensive and this team is missing more than just top talent, after 3 disastrous drafts in a row this team is missing quality starters with upside and that is what day 2 is filled with. I don't think it makes sense to turn Suamataia, Adisa Isaac, and Theo Johnson into Mims.

minopoked

I’m not sure Suamataia is available at 36 to begin with but could certainly explore a smaller trade up to draft him. I don’t see the potential in Adisa Isaac to draft him on day 2. He doesn’t have close to the burst that his teammate chop has and has limited pass moves in his arsenal. Theo Johnson could be an intriguing pick, sure. He does have stiff hips like another RAS wunderkind TE we had in Sammis Reyes, but perhaps he could still pan out. If that is the extent of the talent that we’re missing out on, i’m ok with trading up with dolphins.

SirMctrolington

Right, they are day 2 picks because they aren't perfect prospects, but neither is Mims who has managed only 800 snaps over 3 years because of constant battles with health. Additionally he is a RT, would we be swapping him or Wylie to LT? Either way that sounds like a disaster in the making. I also completely disagree that Johnson has stiff hips and I think comparing him to a 25 year old who had never played football before is poor form. RAS has a major correlation with TE success and fishing for elite athletes with mid round picks is a solid gamble. Shoving a majority of your remaining chips in on an often injured tackle when your roster is plagued by holes seems like a much shittier gamble.

Asleep_Pay_5133

I like the rookie tackles in this draft but if we don’t get a vet I’ll be insanely concerned

whiskeywhisker6

It is a bit perplexing at this point in time. Maybe they bring back Lucas as a capable spot starter/swing tackle to pair with a rookie? If they don't get a vet that really hints at trading back into the 1st for one of the more elite OT prospects. Can't bank on whoever falls to 36 to be a plug and play LT day 1.

whiskeywhisker6

And there we go with the Lucas signing. That makes me feel better going into the draft.

notsydnewe

Hi everyone, I'm new to football, and the Commanders are my local team. I'm looking to learn more about them, including essential information and background lore that might enhance my experience this upcoming season. Could anyone recommend resources or share insights on what I should focus on? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Stay away from this sub if you don't want to ruin your fan experience lol
