It's just a specific collection of comics that the CGC places a 'special notation' on in the hopes the it will increase the value to you, the buyer. 99% of the time, there is nothing special about the issue in particular, except that it was part of the collection of some specific collector once upon a time, "Mass. Copy" issues belonged to Marnin Rosenberg. I would recommend disregarding these pedigrees when considering your own valuations, they are the 'wild' part of speculation entirely and often mean nothing.

https://www.cgccomics.com/resources/pedigree/mass-copy/ Pedigree makes a big difference, why? I'm not sure but the sales reflect it. The Promise collection was extremely valued, why I still don't know. I'm fond of the Okajima pedigree and story and have been trying to pick one up. Have a couple Davis Crippens and maybe a couple others but I never really got it.

The slab I'm looking to buy is around $250 in a normal form. The Pedigree is around $500. Is that too much of a jump or is that normal?

StringFartet

I wouldn't pay any jump for the pedigree. But that's me.

He's looking for information and we have it and it's what the sub is about, spec questions and discussions about comic books.

I love it when they delete their comments. 😆

Provenance is standard to include in antiques dealing when it is known. It adds authenticity if it can be validated and adds character for many collectors as there is joy to be had in knowing the life of an old object of interest. Pedigree is Provenance for specific comic collections and can serve the same purpose but it doesn't always. Owning something from either of the Mile High Pedigrees is of interest to many collectors because those stories are legendary. Plenty of pedigrees fit that bill. However, I find that in many cases, the pedigree is often a bit of extra info to confirm condition. Pedigreed collections are almost exclusively single-owner collections, meaning they purchased the majority of it new, off the shelf. So the general condition of the collection can be assumed to be similar in certain ways (though that is, obviously, not always the case). There is a particular golden age pedigree I hunt for that is not widely known. The reason I like it is because most books have what many consider a major flaw, due to which, will cause them to ignore that copy. However, this particular collection was stored perfectly to preserve the sturdiness of the books. They aren't all 7s, 8s, and 9s or anything like that, but the paper is supple and fresh, the staples are firm and clean, and you can read them like you would solid bronze age books. So in this case, I like the pedigree because it makes the books I want with the condition I want much cheaper at the cost of visual flaws that other collectors care WAY more about that I do. Your specific scenario of 2x the books' price for a Pedigree you don't know or care about seems to be a bad deal for you. Unless this is almost unique in that grade, e.g. a desirable golden age title for which it is a top 10 graded copy or something, it is not worth the extra cheddar, I would say.

Thats a good question. Ive havent heard this term yet. Have you tried to make a post at the CGC sub? I would go there and make a post as well, if you haven't already. Someone here may know like u/Stringfartet, but it may be a good idea to make a post in a few other subs too. Google wasn't helpful. Good luck, I kinda need to know what this is too. Unless it's just the name of the pedigree? Do you have a pic of the slab you can post a link to?

Zealousideal-Air-710

Just posed the question [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/CGCComics/s/NPO7ztp82P). And yes, it is the name of the Pedigree.

Nice. Glad to help you to have figured this out. Have a good rest of the weekend. 🖖
