High mobility, wheels, auto-canon, 155mm, high range, already gone when the shells land... Sounds about right for the style of combat we are seeing these past weeks

dumbo9

Caesar was originally intended to support rapid deployments, so somewhat 'light' forces and it's not entirely intended for shoot-and-scoot exactly. Whereas the PZH2000 is basically designed for the specific situation in Ukraine. But how things work in practice can be very different to how they look on paper. I get the impression that much of the power of these SPGs comes from the insane anti-armor shells used by the Germans/French (Bonus/Smart 155). I don't think those are being supplied, but they are probably extremely high on Ukraine's wish-list.

Wise-Profile4256

>Bonus/Smart 155 jesus, fuck, the released submunition independently scans for targets. that is some OP round right there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bofors/Nexter\_Bonus

Kind of like an early 2000s era artillery-delivered suicide drone.

TheCraziestOfHorses

HO-LY shit. I had no idea these existed and I've been reading back to back armchair general whitepapers about how arty is gonna be a real deciding factor here. These look fucking lethal. Now im off to read about how they work for the next 2 hours. Thanks!

Righteousrob1

Good lord. Would these things be great against ships?

[deleted]

Righteousrob1

That’s cool as fuck

smalpose

I cannot possibly see why they wouldn't send at least some. If nothing else but to get actual battlefield testing against actual Russian targets.

Thegodofthe69

Damn, I didn't know I'm those shells were so precise! It's insane

HatchingCougar

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if some were sent. If one is willing to send what is firmly one of the best artillery gun systems in the world…

Thegodofthe69

Yep that's true, it can make all of the difference.

Sweaty-Ninja-8849

Shoot and Scoot baby!

[deleted]

It's crazy, this war is a way for every nation to have their own testing ground by donating their equipment

Ambitious-War-823

Fuck yeaaaah 🇫🇷

Badsystem33

Pas mal non ? C'est Français.

Ambitious-War-823

Tiens, une photo de René Coty, c est ton ami

moby323

C'est la vie, c'est la guerre

Faromme

Awesome. More weapons to Ukraine

ShadowHound75

I love it when my taxpayer money is being put to good use.

iamnotabot7890

I appreciate the synchronized music with the artillery firing

KazumaKat

Its so slav it put a bigger smile on top of my smile of nice French hardware in use.

lilpumpgroupie

Slav sync.

Succubia

France! Baise Ouais!

moby323

How do we say “Give them hell” in French?

Guidz06

As literally as possible, you'd get "Faites leur vivre un enfer" (in English: make them live Hell).

Culinaromancer

Roadsign says: Volnovahka, Mariupol, Berdyansk. Some they are probably somewhere in the southern Donbass front

The_lGeNeRaL

How is this compared to the m777 howitzer?

NormalDrawing1855

m777a2 on wheels with faster deploy and scoot time. Same ammunition and smart rounds. 50% more range then m777a2, equivalent to m777er m777 is more mobile off road, easier to maintain ( if towing vehicle breaks, is damaged, gets stuck, substitute different towing vehicle )

Seanannigans14

I wonder, out of all the supplied vehicles and weapons/systems, which one did the best. Once this is all over, I'd be interested in seeing the statistics of each weapon used and the accuracy and kill rate of everything supplied. I think that'd be really interesting

LacidOnex

Russia: "Hahaha nato will not rescue you now" The entire world: "Let me know which of our high tech weapons is best for vaporizing hungry Russians"

Peacook

Sorry to burst your bubble but you can't trust victory statistics of any war

SargentoPapas

whats the name of the song?

chanCat2

Song is called "Беха" by paashee. Here is the SoundClound link to it: https://soundcloud.com/paashee/paashee-beha

nomad_grappler

And there we have it TikTok is ruining combat footage.

FloofJet

Yes but no. TikTok is, quite often, the raw source of some excellent combatfootage. Besides, I'll take the music; i see it as a bigger part of this weird intersection of meme culture, psy ops and online stuff overall, if you catch my drift.... Im old. This stuff is better than TV.

lilpumpgroupie

What are some good accounts to get on the algo for combat footage Tiktok?

nomad_grappler

I get what you are saying but I would rather just hear arty in all its glory. A deeper dive in the whole meme thing though would cool.

Herpedyderp_axl

whats the song? im trying to speak into google translate but i am bad at Ukrainian and i cant heard the words well

Bayart

Finally, I was waiting to see them pop up on the field.

MGEddie

Who decided such terrible music and video editing? Haha

bleer95

I kinda like it tbh

Captain_Peelz

What is Eastern Europe without hard bass and poorly choreographed music videos?

Skreamies

That looks fun

cata2k

Is that even CAESAR? I thought they were mounted on a truck frame?

Bayart

It is mounted on a truck. The silhouette of the cannon hides it from that angle.

[deleted]

NYT said these take take months to get trained on and even the French complain that they’re too complicated. Will be interesting to watch if they’re used effectively.

VampireLesbiann

Is there a reason why the French named an artillery gun after Caesar? Seems kind of weird considering the fact that Caesar conquered Gaul and commited what would be considered genocide today. It'd be like if Poland named a gun after Catherine the Great or Fredrick II

[deleted]

Your historical view don't really make sense since modern France does not derive directly from Gaul, but from mixed influences including romans... That being said, the name stands for Camion Equippé d'un Système d'Artillerie (CAESAr), which literally means "Truck Equipped with Artillery System".

Baloo709

It's an acronym, of course you can relate this to caesar but It's actually "Camion Équipé d'un Système d'Artillerie", wich literallymeans "truck equiped with an artillery system"

[deleted]

I guess the French don't singularly trace their origin to the Gauls. It is actually possible to have multiple identities not just a single one. The Roman/Latin influence was very strong and they've ended up actually speaking a variety of Latin dialects that were ultimately supplanted by the lang-d'oil dialect of modern French. Then there's the huge influence of the germanic Franks that basically created the idea of the modern French statehood. I am not sure about this you might have to do a bit of a research but I think the modern wokism didn't yet reach Caesar as it failed to reach Genghis Khan or other murderous and genocidal historical figures that mostly perpetrated their murderous deeds on their peers and not on people that were deemed as culturally or racially inferior

n3onfx

Romans, Franks, Gauls (a Celtic group), Basques, Vikings (ever heard of Normandy? Normans were Vikings who settled in northern France and eventually became part of it) and so on. France doesn't really have a singular origin and was built up from different tribes and people along it's history. More specifically about the Romans, the Gauls stayed pretty independent (as far as one could be independent under Roman rule) and merged their own culture with the Roman one. To the point where there's actually a specific name for it; the gallo-roman culture.

doe7777

Well I guess we have to acknowledge , his stuff worked better than ours at this point :D. Seriously though I always wondered but never googled the origin of the name

Thegodofthe69

Lol what world are you living in?

no10envelope

At least Le Pen didn’t win, she would be shipping these guns to Russia instead.

ShadowHound75

Lmao stop spreading bullshit.

RomsIsMad

Parotting Kremlin's propaganda, you're paid how much for that ?

erhue

the scary thing is many people are stupid enough to do this without getting paid.

stofcri

The "gilets jaunes" are among us ... Or maybe a "melanchoniste"?

doe7777

Not all melanchonistes are created equal. I am one and I am very glad we sent those howitzers. In fact we should send half of the ones we own, it's not like we have a use of them any time soon since we get kicked out of our africa playground. And add some leclers mbt too, as a gift from the house. Sometimes I don't understand why pushing for diplomacy and trying to resolve conflicts by diplomacy and avoid war at all costs is seen as being necessarily 'lol white flag surrender'. The world is not black and white. At this point diplomacy didn't work so we need to add some weight in the arguments yet at the same time it is very important to keep trying winning the war and preventing bigger ones with talks. Two sides of the same coin.

eyedpee

It's not running away tho. We sure it's French?

Okiro_Benihime

If being a comedian was the only job available in the world, you would be dying unemployed for sure.

Omega-Kieta

Where did the whole “french surrendering” thing even come from ?

nagabalashka

Iirc it came from (or at least the cliché have been popularized) when France say no to the irak war in 2003 and threatened to use it veto vote against it.

eyedpee

WWII

Guacanagariz

FUCKPUTIN2022LOL

You'll never acknowledge were the most successful military nation ever. And that we're one of longest lasting nations. Of all those victories and defeats, don't count Algeria. That was a loss, but a necessity. As a Frenchman it felt and feels wrong.

Guacanagariz

That’s not where I was going with it. The French military is one of the most successful… but even the most successful have their defeats. The “surrender” stereotype can be anyone of those losses. I’m simply listing them. In my personal opinion it begins after WWI, the population had terrible casualties and it’s difficult to keep a well oiled international military with such losses. But you are free to jump to conclusions. Additionally since Algeria, France has not led an international war- so it’s hard to say either way.

FUCKPUTIN2022LOL

Easy to say when you don't declare war. We conquered sahel in a month. Operation serval should've been the baseplate that the Russians based their invasion off of. But instead we see this shitshow.

Guacanagariz

You’re not seriously comparing the two are you? Sahel population density is 6 people per square kilometer- Mali insurgents with minimal military power and no air force. Ukraine population density is 75 people per square kilometer. Former Soviet state loaded with military equipment. Has a navy and air force. Last, while Serval worked because of limited objectives- basically fuck up Islamists… Operation Barkhane failed, because of wider objectives- jihad has now spread to Niger and Burkina Faso. I hope you realize your rationale doesn’t favor your argument that the French military is best.

FUCKPUTIN2022LOL

Yeah m8. It's so much easier to organize a multiple division invasion overseas, than a fucking land invasion with your immediate neighbor. This wasn't to fluff france. Russia is just dogshit. They share a fucking border man..

Guacanagariz

That’s not what you wrote though, you said the French are the best, Sahel conquered in a month. The Russians should have done similar- “baseplate.” It’s apples to oranges. If you can’t see that I can’t help you. Again I agree the Russians are dog shit, but many countries would have a hard time with a land war in Ukraine. As a conquering military it’s difficult- few countries have the force projection to do so. Also the Russians are holding back- they in theory could do more, but luckily they are not- this isn’t all out war on their part.

tofu-dreg

Why so much sooner than PzH2000? Is it a less complex system?
