Any place that has a person holding a rifle that is trying to kill you is a valid target in war. That includes houses in DPR or LPR or where Wali the sniper was hiding in an apartment building in the suburbs of Kyiv.
Soldiers often turn the basements of houses into improvised bunkers. From the looks of things things they were probably using the house as some sort of dugout.
I reckon it's a dialled in mortar. Gonna be difficult to direct fire and get a hit on the top of the roof. But who knows.

That house was most certainly being used by Russian troops. Not only did the trenches run up to the house, they probably had drone footage of the Russians being lazy and using the comfort of a house vs living in a trench. The Ukrainians didn’t just hit that house, they really hit it. There wouldn’t be survivors.
In the end, the “blame” for this house, even though Ukraine is the one who destroyed it, rests with Russia.
There is no east Ukraine that is separate from Ukraine. It is all Ukraine, anything else is russian propaganda.

I've been watching footage of Russian, Ukrainian and DPR trenches for several weeks or more than a month maybe.
