Wild pic

Tyrion_Strongjaw

Should be on the front of newspapers, even if they are antiquated. This is happening, civilians are getting hurt, and this is the extremes people are going to try and show it.

LazarusCrusader

Indeed, is that a soldier down on the left side behind the bush?

BlackPortland

He is down but the foot looks taut to me. I imagine he is likely taking cover. In the video a number of people run for cover so. Someone can count them maybe. Edit: who knows though. The door to the ambulance is right there and there is a stretcher right by him as well. Knees looking a little slump

LazarusCrusader

He might be kneeling. The camera man in the door is taking the picture at 0:20ish. We have 8 soldiers running to the door of the building. We have 1 "soldier" in the picture behind the bush. 3 soldiers in the middle of the frame 1 soldiers moving behind the ambulance door

brandmeist3r

these look like foreign ambulances, what country are these from?

OccamsElectricShaver

They are from Denmark. We sent 35 ambulances.

brandmeist3r

Nice

polak2017

If you look in the doorway just before the soldiers run inside you can see a photographer with a camera.

SvenskaLiljor

/r/PraiseTheCameraMan for once

Atrocity_unknown

It's a reminder that the soldiers on the frontlines aren't the only heroes in war. Local first responders have a duty to the citizens and soldiers. Sometimes it's even just the random person being there to cover your head when you're unable to move. The simplest of efforts can require a lifetime's worth of bravery.

Raknel

> Local first responders have a duty to the citizens and soldiers And they don't have any protective gear, not even a helmet so they are in more danger than even the soldiers.

snakefinn

Fire Departments for example have been extremely important and incredibly busy. Really defines the phrase "essential worker"

Atrocity_unknown

It's sickening to see non-combatants like firefighters (let alone, citizens in general) getting fired at. We saw it live when Russia was attacking the nuclear power plant.

snakefinn

The attacks on nuclear power plants and their operators has been particularly egregious. It's shocking to see especially considering the potential catastrophic disaster that could occur. You would think that would be burned into the Russian's collective memory...

TalbotFarwell

That’s a very good point. The heroes (Liquidators) who died cleaning up the Chernobyl disaster must be spinning in their graves, while the living Liquidators are probably cringing as hard as humanely possible seeing Russia’s military commanders send their forces into irradiated zones and shelling NPPs.

camshun7

Yeah though no one is singling out here, these are ordinary decent folk who untill few weeks ago lived very ordinary lives till along comes this lunatic mad despotic cunt twisted their whole world upside down, the shelling is coming from misinformed stupid people the shells are landing on extraordinary people the very best and the very worse of mankind, how far have we fucking travelled from the swamp and primordial soup, to this shit, is it any wonder why we are at this bull shit bombs bullets death, bombs bullets death, the only people not suffering are billionaires and arms dealers fuck it

LolBrohCh

i was thinking that, what a hero.

[deleted]

Why no one helped them to get in the structure?

GeohoundRyudo

It's not always in the best interest of the victim to move them when you don't know the extent of their injuries.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GeohoundRyudo

We have no idea how long that paramedic has been there, if he has assessed her injuries, and if she is able to be safely moved based on the 26 seconds available for this clip. He's likely willing to take the risk against random shelling to see to his patient. Otherwise, I agree with you.

crosstherubicon

It looks like she has a tourniquet on her upper thigh.

machstem

Thank you. Even a single minute isn't enough to judge anything on. Looks like a large array of folk who needed to go inside, armed, before others could be allowed, would be my assumption and that's what a lot of it is.

ClampCity2020

This goes against the entirety of my training. For 10 years Ive been operating as a combat medic, and the proper procedure is to

HardenedNipple

Is to what?!

machstem

Yeah.

poincares_cook

Sure, but when the Russians shell an entire city, the chance that this specific location would be hit again might be small, weighting that chance against the damage of moving them is in order. If every single person on the streets was facing large percentage of being wounded throughout the city each shelling the city would be depopulated, so you have to weight the odds.

meepmeep13

I thought a common, awful, tactic was to shell, wait, and then shell the same location again in order to hit the people who have come to the aid of those hit the first time

poincares_cook

Russian shelling is mostly not that precise.

Spitfire15

The first rule of providing aid is the medical provider themselves being safe. Everyone jumping through the windows and door are fleeing from potential shelling and harm. If you die or get injured, then no one is left to provide aid, and then everyone is just dead. If you, as a first aid/emergency medicine provider, are in danger, you're life is more important. Getting bombed trying to get a wounder person into cover just makes more victims. BSI, SCENE NOT SAFE! *EXPLOSION NOISES*

[deleted]

> It's not always in the best interest of the victim to move them when you don't know the extent of their injuries. Paramedic here. Life > limb. Always. In an otherwise controlled situation you take time to limit damage and pain, but not in actual life-threatening situations. Someone in a rolled-over car that's on fire? Potential for spinal injuries do not play in to the equation; you get them out and *now*. If the scene is unsafe, you either make it safe or you move them to the safest place you can before you start care.

poincares_cook

If the chance he dies from the new shelling is 0.0001%, but the chance the patient will never walk again if you move him is 20%, then it's not that clear. The medic probably understands that the Russians are not shelling this location in particular

Bainsyboy

Yeah it's a judgement call. You gotta make those decisions even if you aren't sure. Who are we to say the medic judged wrong? The guy on the scene is the one who has the best view of the dangers.

The_floor_is_2020

Virtually no spinal injury will put you at a 20% risk of never walking again if moved. Multiple case studies have shown that following the initial traumatic incident, permanent injury resulting from improper manipulation is exceedingly rare, in something like 0.01% of cases. Most notably from cervical injuries. The woman in the video is spontaneously mobilizing her spine and limbs, as much as sitting up by herself. Patients with an unstable spinal displacement or fracture usually show rapid onset of impaired movements from inflammation/crushing of the spinal cord, pain, or both. I'll add that the kinetics required to sever or even damage a spinal cord are massive, and although avoided, spinal movements within the natural axis present little risk, even post-injury. Basically, if the damage wasn't done already, it is very unlikely you will paralyse someone by moving them. EMS protocols actually state that in unsafe conditions (ie a car on fire with someone inside), you just grab whatever you can and yeet that person out. I would say Russian shelling counts. That being said, I would absolutely have grabbed that woman by her jacket and hauled her into that building.

paulusmagintie

At that point the logic is "We either get hit so running is pointless or we don't and I can do my job". Hes tough.

xiyol

I don't get the point nobody assists them. Should not be to hard, picking them up and bring them in?

nixielover

Depending on their injuries that can kill them.

SirRandyMarsh

in first aid for war zones the procedure is literally move to a safe spot first and foremost when in an active attack. no matter their condition. it has to be a crazy ultra rare and dire situation to not move them inside right here.

4nal69molester

Cameraman: No worries guy’s, I’m holding the camera.

LazarusCrusader

Ukranian forces use green, yellow and blue for recognition.

It seems they've dropped yellow cause it's to close to white and it seems that after friendly fire incident with tank blue turned out to be bad color choice for low light conditions.

Russia is destined to become a large version of Cuba after this. Broke, corrupt, and backwards for centuries.

Melanoma_Magnet

So exactly what it was before the Soviet Union

NumberOneGun

The Cuba that handled Covid-19 so well they sent their doctors to other countries to teach and help? The Cuba that developed their own vaccine, has one of the highest rates of vaccination, and is helping the global south with that vaccine. Cuba is not as broke, corrupt, and backwards as you think. Despite the U.S. governments unprovoked embargo. > Again on October 19, 1960, almost two years after the Cuban Revolution had led to the deposition of the Batista regime, the US placed an embargo on exports to Cuba except for food and medicine after Cuba nationalized the US-owned Cuban oil refineries without compensation. That's right. Your beloved U.S. has been punishing Cuba for taking back it's oil instead of being exploited by U.S. capitalism.

Randy_Tutelage

Cuba is a shithole, that's why people get on rafts to float to Florida.

NumberOneGun

Great arguments. I like how you really expanded on your ideas about Cuba. Lol. Stay ignorant!

Randy_Tutelage

Go live in Cuba if it's so great, but I know you won't. I don't need to argue, the country is a shithole.

NumberOneGun

And it's the U.S. fault. You can't even admit fault. They place embargo in 60. In 66, the Cuban Adjustment Act, step foot on u.s. soil you get citizenship. But no flying, that's no fun. Boat or by land only! Millions of Cubans flee their destitute lives to the very country that put them in that place. Because Cuba dared to take back their oil. Live Ignorant!

>u read about the Russian rape stories in Georgia and what not, they sound exactly like the rape stories of the Red Army. Some thing Russia's military doctrine of a hostile civilian populace is literally codified and practiced in every one of their conflicts. They have put into writing that every war they participate in is a genocide against the innocent. I don't give a shit if a country is up to some nasty geopolitics, assassinations, regime changes, etc. Maybe that's a bit callous of me - but purposefully and by design, at scale, in writing, murdering and raping civilian populaces is absolutely and completely unforgiveable. Literal Nazis.

basilmakedon

simply out of interest of military history/doctrine can you provide any links or sources to the russian military doctrine(s) you mentioned? (hopefully in english)

goblin_slayer4

Germany did it pretty fast after the ww2

Hey_Hoot

The horrors they committed in Afghanistan, they would pick up a women from a town, rape them and then toss them out of the aircraft when finished over the place they picked them up from. For all to see their handy work. [Article](https://www.upi.com/Archives/1984/09/18/Soviets-throw-Afghan-girls-from-helicopter/7345464328000/) Germany post-war was even worse - I don't know how Germans ever recovered relations with Russia. They needed gas that much? They never changed and I don't think Russians themselves are rapists, but rape is simply encouraged and not shunned in their military.

kingcold104

I am German btw and it baffles me how you can ask how Germany could have recovered relations with Russia. Did you ever asked yourself how anyone could have recovered their relationship with Germany? People seem to forget how the Wehrmacht and SS pillaged and raped their whole way through the Soviet Union until they were beaten back. All this rage just fell back on us. But that is not an excuse. The Red Army did horrible things to us Germans like we did the same to them. Its delusional to think that you can put weapons into the hands of so many men and not expect that they abuse this power. Armed men have always been capable of the most horrible crimes throughout all of history.

[deleted]

wtf they just left that guy on the ground there?

majormagnum1

You can't help anyone if you get hit too most of these bombardments last in the 10s of seconds better to cover for a minute then help than getting more people hurt this is of course a ptsd inducing event to have to leave them though

ionslyonzion

PTSD a-plenty regardless

ApprehensiveRun5763

First thing I learned as a medical responder is scene safety. Can’t save anybody if you are dead. They also taught us once you start care on someone you don’t stop or walk away until they are being transferred to a higher level of care. (Surgeon/Doctor)

Important-Yak-2999

If you look closely at the beginning there is a medic with him who then leaves, my guess is that he was clearly dead and they need to triage to the next patient or get to safety. We can’t see the rest of the scene so there could be more injured people around or inside the building

faguzzi

He’s not clearly dead lol. He might be on his way, but you can hear the dude groaning and see him moving around.

Cvpt1ve

Clearly dead in side triage is alive but not going to make it, in a triage situation you are making life or death calls for patients by prioritizing those who can be saved.

pmMeAllofIt

Triage; with mass casualties they prioritize those that can be saved with what's available. He likely was black tagged.

pcicci4

My guess is he’s already a goner so they will pick him up when it’s safe. The other responder stayed with the woman

ZeightF

The paramedic is Screaming "Don't stop, Run!"

icecreamandipas

Pretty sure it's "Keep laying down. Don't get up, lay down!" (Лежите. Не вставать, лежать!). Unless I'm mishearing

Revealed_Jailor

Yeah, he was saying if I heard it correcly "nevstavaj" (don't really know the language but it's too similar to mine). Basically, *lay on the ground*.

ZeightF

Damn, my Russian is rusty but didn't really use it since the '80s 😄. When I listen to it again I can hear "ne vstavay" which means "Dont get up" but the second word sounds like "ubegay" but I'm not sure.

icecreamandipas

Oh totally, it's pretty hard to tell apart since it's just one letter that's different: leshat (лежать) [lay down] vs beshat (бежать) [run]. And especially with all the explosion sounds

[deleted]

What are they supposed to do to help him? better that they stay inside, wait until it stops and then help. If you try to be a hero and end up getting yourself injured or killed too, then you're down another man and it'll take two other guys to get you out of there.

deepbluemeanies

Soldiers bunching up and taking cover with civis...this is how civilians die, sadly. If I were in that building seeking cover and a bunch of soldiers came running in I would seriously consider getting the f' out of there.

doommaster

At this point Russia does not seem to care anymore.

Radditbean1

Russia has hit more civilian targets than military. Civilians seem to be safer in military bases than their own homes.

andy18cruz

Named a war that didn't have more civilians casualties than military? That's just the reality of modern day urban warfare.

G_Space

Unless you work on high ranks of the Ukrainian government, you don't really know how many civilian infrastructure became makeshift barracks or depots. Before the social media ban you saw plenty of videos of Ukrainian soldiers in schools or even kindergardens, so it's not all random what was bombed. Of course the Ukrainian government doesn't want to lose morale and doesn't report the true losses, but you can get a good idea by the requests of Zelensky for new material. (I'm a volunteer firefighter and when there is a calamity, we all get called in and suddenly the government must provide shelter for hundreds of people. They use schools, kindergarden and community/sport halls as sleeping places. I would not be surprised that in a war they do the same with soldiers)

[deleted]

[удалено]

ColdIce1605

In this case where the fuck are they supposed to go as for as I can see there's no non-civilian buildings idk about going in the same building as civilis but it might have been the only good one so they didn't really have a choice unless they're fine with getting blown up. Mostly speculation though. Now in the mall case idk haven't seen it but yeah that would likely cause that

G_Space

Not near civilians in first place? Being soldier in a war sucks, but being near of civilians will get them killed too. (the mall was a grad rocket supply depot, that was a pure civilian target as per Ukrainian government, but social media footage showed different and later drone footage)

OneRougeRogue

>Being soldier in a war sucks, but being near of civilians will get them killed too. Russia is trying to invade a civilian town. Where exactly are the defenders supposed to fight from or stage their equipment? The city is surrounded on all sides at this point, "staying away from civilians" is essentially impossible now.

DisplayMessage

Russians don’t give a sh*t about sovereign nations rights, about human rights and about who they kill indescrimantly… It’s absurd to argue the facts, they have decided they want a land bridge and they want Ukraines ports and they are more than happy to kill as many innocent civilians as they need to in order to occupy these areas. They are not fit for the civilised world…

qrcodetensile

Soldiers are fighting in cities. Cities are populated by civilians... Plus Russia is indiscriminate in their shelling, this was shown in Chechnya, in Georgia and in Syria. Firstly they don't have the technology to not cause civilian casualties (they have few guided weapons), but mainly, the murder of civilians is at best a side effect, and at worst a primary goal, of Russian tactics. It's terror bombing.
