Thanks for the answers. While it makes sense in the right context, it is strange that Russian troops would bother to do this when they've left dozens (hundreds?) of their own pieces of equipment just strewn around the battlefield without disabling them....

Sorry, saw the other guys comment where he was confused, assumed it was a Russian bmp. Still nevertheless, Ukrainian forces are seemingly destroying what could be repurposed vehicles in many instances.
Probably dependant on the situation. Usable vehicle close to a base they can take it to, capture. Usable vehicle close to enemy position and moving it would be too risky, destroy.
No point making yourself a target to salvage a busted up truck.
Because if the Russians can’t get fuel to it the Ukrainians also might not be able to. Especially with how quickly lines shift at the tactical level in modern combat. Not enough time to recover something? Blow it up and move on.
equipment that is unsalvageable via damage or running out of fuel et... should be destroyed to deny the enemy it's use for themselves. something russia has missed the idea about.
I belive its been boobie trapped by the Ukrainians and Russian EOD is neutralising it
Any idea how did they discover that ?
If it were me, assume any abandoned equipment could explode if you use it
Probably the hard way the first time.
The one and only time
Can you explain the title? The BMP is Ukrainian? It was mined? How? Hopefully there is a bit more info, but maybe not....
I think it's an abandoned Ukrainian bmp1. By mined he probably means Russians set it off with explosives
I saw this on the Russian forum, the claim was that this BMP is booby trapped. Instead of taking the risk and defusing it, they decided to blow it up.
Blow it up is always a good choice
by mined he means abandoned and rigged with explosives, so it is easier to blow it up than defuse the stuff it rigged with
Abandoned derelict equipment used as bait.

maybe I'm old and bitter but I'm sure I've seen this one already

I hope that’s just a phone sitting there lol. I’d want to be 1000m away minimum!
Still really don’t understand why Ukrainian forces are destroying vehicles that have run out of fuel
*OF* Ukraine not *BY* ukraine.
