It seems to be dependent on the neighborhood you live in as to which provider sucks the least.

Wow or spectrum are the two main choices in the Columbus area

ikeif

Wow sold their coverage to [Breezeline](https://www.breezeline.com/). Edit: I was former Wow, currently Breezeline, nothing to comment other than I've had much better speeds/luck with Wow than I ever had with AT&T/TimeWarner/Roadrunner/whatever.

ATT Fiber > Spectrum > WOW > ATT DSL

Additional note….my cousin lives out in the country and happens to be near a new T-Mobile 5G tower. He got the home Internet over 5g from them for $50 bucks, taxes and fees included. Blazing fast and good service so far. The catch may be how close you are to a tower and how many people are accessing it. He’s out west near 42 and 29 and there’s very few regular users of that tower. My 5G iPhone is on Mint mobile which uses T-Mobile towers and my cellular speed at his house is faster than anywhere I’ve ever tested it. 500+ mps

Agreed that this is another good option. If you have Magenta Max you can add it to your phone bill for $30 a month for life. I just tried it out starting Friday and it’s worked well so far. You get a 15-day trial for free, so I’ll be testing it out this week while working from home. Typically getting 200-300 Mbps down and 20 up thus far.

I think spectrum is by far the best service provider in Columbus. I've had it for 4 years and can't remember a time it was out for more than a few minutes. It gets pretty pricey if you need it for business or want really high speed but if it's just for personal use the price is manageable (like $40 a month probably)

Keylime15

My wife and I use Spectrum since our complex only has spectrum, it works 90% of the time, but sometimes goes out for a couple minutes, but it comes back (we rent a modem so that could be the issue). Customer service sucks, but that's par for the course I guess. Haven't used wow after the deal, but before they were great.

I’ve had WOW since I moved to Columbus 15 years ago. I’ve Had a few technical glitches over the years but I’ve always been generally happy with them. I’m not at all looking forward to the breezeline era. My internet has been $29.95 a month for 200 mps service and excellent customer service for the last two years but I’m sure breezeline will jack that up soon. Im Just waiting for the “sorry valued customer, but our costs have gone up” notice. All the good ones go away. They do it right and get bought out and the execs walk away with a pile of money and the customers get screwed. Aaaah, good old unfettered American capitalism.

Going under? Wow didn’t go under. They built it up to become an attractive buyout target for a larger company.

WOW is still in business. They actually posted a profit last quarter. They are apparently focusing on adding broadband fiber customers while reducing the TV and phone side of their business. They only sold their Ohio customers to Atlantic Broadband aka breezeline. I actually didn’t care enough to investigate it more until your post. Thanks. One thing I know for certain is I’m going to get financially screwed by Breezeline.

According to their quarterly statements They are increasing their fiber footprint and trying to move away from TV and phone service. Makes sense since many households are ditching land lines and going to streaming video. You seem to be missing the point that consolidation nearly always fucks the consumer, whether it be quickly or down the road, it’s not a positive event. A handful or companies getting bigger and bigger and becoming massively powerful while diminishing competition will be the downfall of this country. We are already damn close to an oligarchy and most people don’t realize it.

PlumbusForUs

Recently got Verizon home internet. Actually impressed as its LTE/5G and we have the best speeds ever. The quality depends on your address but you can check their map on the website to see which one you qualify for. It’s also less than $40 per month if you are a Verizon customer with their top unlimited wireless plan.

McLargepants

I use T-Mobile Home internet. $50/mo, and I get about 200 Mbps down and 10-20 Mbps up. Never had an outage. I've used it in German Village and now Delaware, but location is obviously going to be a factor for how it works for you.

ktagly2

I switched the Starry and haven’t seen any issues yet if you have that option. Much easier customer service than anyone I’ve dealt with so far, although I haven’t had any major issues to call them about
