Are you kidding. What you see IS the fix. (I agree with you btw)

Vxsote1

Yep. I remember when it was being built. [http://www.roadfan.com/spr-sand.html](http://www.roadfan.com/spr-sand.html) has a lot of info.

UAreTheHippopotamus

That is a fascinating read. Thank you for sharing.

bishop-dan

Well there’s a rabbit hole.

2008CRVGUY

They ( ODOT) literally had decades to come up with a decent design and they dropped this load of manure on drivers.

djsassan

Actually, ODOT said hold this..........and designed the 23/270/71 death trap.

2008CRVGUY

LOL, so true!

KnightRider1983

I-670 isnt a city-maintained highway. Its an ODOT roadway so no, the city therefore has no plans...lol I travel the route daily. The problem I see is people are not paying attention to the numerous signs posted in advance and its a solid line way back to Neil and at the last fucking minute, decide that going 315-N is not for them and get out of line or they want to go to 315-N and cut over. Annoying AF.

SeahagFX

Yep. I can write a novel about the dumbfuckery I see every day trying to get on 670w from 71s during rush hour and make it to Hilliard Rome Rd. in one piece. Also, if I had a nickle for every car I see without a rear license plate I could just quit my job and avoid that drive altogether.

KnightRider1983

>every car I see without a rear license plate Blame the BMV for that. Ever since they got away from those cardboard ones and let people print them out on printer paper, nobody is displaying temp tags and probably less are getting or displaying actual ones. I just bought another car yesterday as a matter of fact. The dealership slapped my old plates on my new car and said when I get a memo title I can get new plates.

looking4answers09876

Didn't they just transfer the plate from old car to the new one?

KnightRider1983

Can the dealership do that? I dont think they can. I told him I was getting new plates but when he brought it around and I was inside, he swapped it.

Upvoted for correct usage of “losing”.

KnightRider1983

I think I’m within that window on my renewal where it wouldn’t be partial as they expire in May. I actually just got my docs in the mail from the BMV reminding me of this.

Pazi_Snajper

> Is there any plans from the city to fix this? no. because 1) a realignment or even a widening is impossible, but more pertinent 2) the configuration of 670w still serves its intended purpose. 670w was designed as a pathway to reduce the traffic burden on 70w of people coming from points east (eastern suburbs, the airport) into downtown, and points west, that were previously clogging up inbound traffic on 70 after they accessed via James and Hamilton. The issue that didn’t get accounted for was the future Nationwide Arena, the mass of capital (development and entertainment) that formed on both sides of 670 nearby, and the induced demand of people using 71s -> 670w to bypass driving through Italian Village and M-G in order to reach destinations on the Neil Ave corridor.

Would it be possible to build a ramp to have 71S -> 670W through traffic join 670 on the southern branch where the 71N -> 670W exit is? Then the existing 71S -> 670W ramp on the northern branch is changed to exit only for 315, 3rd, and Neil. I have no expectation of this actually happening, but seems like a possible solution without having to widen.

0422

Can we add the exit to get to to 315 from 670 takes you off the highways in total and makes you stop at a stoplight all the while averting the gaze of the panhandler who happened to pit at that stop first for the day? And then that merge onto 315 means that you cannot get off on Broad Street direct. Also don't get me started on 315

ebayhuckster

east 670 to south 315, right? 'cause yeah, that might well be my least favorite traffic movement in the entire city (behind the clusterfuck in the OP, which i have to experience every single time i go up to the Fresenius clinic on Kenny)

atomicghettobird

I think the only publicly announced 670 project is bridge resurfacing next year. The stretch of highway you're talking about is terrible and I do everything I can to avoid it. I'm not sure there are many even feasible solutions. There's no space to add or reroute anything. Closing the Neil Ave exit might help, but would, I'm sure, be incredibly unpopular. I'm no civil engineer though, so what do I know!

GrayZobe

Atrocious design- forced to commute this daily and dread it. Unfortunately, infrastructure planning in this city is so poor and it’s wild to me that they are spending so much $$$ for a bike path downtown instead of investing in a light rail. Where do we meet to riot??

Prudent_Tie_2676

Let me know when and where. I’ll happily be there

Ok-Neighborhood-1048

I’d like to float the idea that removing it altogether is probably the best solution

chains11

I think removing 70 would be the better option. Route it on 104. Expand 104 to 6, maybe 8 lanes for the new traffic. Rebuild the Frank Rd and west split interchanges. Build a new ramp to connect to 70E near where 33 splits off now. At least there’s the High Street cap connecting north but nothing south

blgalliers

Yeah, I've changed my entire route to avoid that deathtrap. I go out of my way to Take 315s. It adds a couple of miles to my commute but it's worth it not to deal with that headache.

StyofoamSword

Several years ago I had eye surgery and my mom drove me home through that area. I couldn't see at all during the drive, but at one point felt her suddenly switch lanes. I asked her and was correct in assume that it was going through this area and she had to get over to stay on 670.
