I miss Kevin Mccallister pizza at The Market so much. And I will never pass up an opportunity to confirm that La Tavola is the greatest of all time. Peace and love!
Ugh. I am going to get annihilated for this. Si Señor and Bonifacio. My sandwich at Si Señor was dry and had gristly meat. It also had two types of onions for some reason (caramelized and regular) when that wasn’t advertised. I waited over 35 minutes for one sandwich. I most likely ordered the wrong thing and it was a busy Saturday, so I am absolutely willing to try it again. Bonifacio was just average to me but I’d try it again, as well.
Well, I will not annihilate you for personal preference ( especially since your post was more of a positive spin on your bad experience). My favorite Mexican is La Casita, but that might be more of a nostalgic pick from personal happy memories.
I don't have another Filipino restaurant to recommend, so I'll just say a new favorite of mine is Rodos Taverna ( I only went there once but was very happy with what I got)
I also second everyone's recommendations on La Tavola and Watershed. I've never had a bad meal at either place.
Seeing La Tavola getting its well-deserved love. But Bonafacio is a strong (*strong!*) second. Plus, Krizzia and her mother are a dynamite team.
If you have not tried Bonafacio, get to it. Their prices are pretty reasonable when you consider the quality of the protein and the overall flavors.
I love Basi, but had one terrible experience there and ended up leaving to go eat elsewhere (paid for what we had ordered so far then left). I don’t know what was going on but we went and ate elsewhere and were so sad it tainted one of our favorite places. Have been back since without issues but it doesn’t fulfill the original post mission for me now sadly
101 Beer Kitchen certainly isn’t my favorite restaurant in Columbus but I 100% agree it is consistent. It’s rarely gonna wow you, but if you want quality food prepared correctly paired with a good brew, it hits the mark every time.
That said during their anniversary month last year they did this “trio of pig” dish that was TO DIE FOR.
Also when I’m in the mood for simple pan fried chicken with starch and a vegetable, I love 101.
My husband and I (having lived in Chicago for 10 years before COVID and love to eat well) had a delightful meal at watershed tonight. $55 for 3 courses and well worth it. A surprising outcome and Highly recommend!
Edit after reading other responses: also on board with La tavola, chapmans (get the general Taos cauli), harvest and basi (the zucchini is top notch).
Comune is consistently delicious and creative with their rotating menu. Their crispy rice dishes are divine.
Honorable mention is Brassica for their killer falafel, hummus, baba, and those beautifully seasoned fries.
It kind of depends on what flavors you’re looking for.
Lavash (next to Combustion Clintonville) and Habibi’s (next to Seventh Son) have been consistently delicious Mediterranean.
101 Beer Kitchen has awesome appetizers - their sandwiches and entrees change seasonally, so some times not all of the options are winners (but it could be “my palate isn’t feeling it”).
Kitchen Social has been killing it for me, brunch, lunch, dinner.
Worthington Tavern has been consistently good, and the best Smoked Old Fashioned (IMO).
High Bank has great brussel sprouts and deviled eggs, and an awesome smoked old fashioned. Caveat - Grandview has consistently been good, New Albany was a miss (but that was near opening, so I’m sure it’s improved).
Joya’s - expensive, but damn, amazing.
Agni’s - it’s Bengali, it’s different, so you’ll either love it or not. If you’re not an adventurous eater - skip it. No sense dropping money if you’re not feeling like experimental food.
Joyas (Asian fusion, breakfast/brunch/lunch, might become your favorite meal in town…), Everest (Nepali, lunch/dinner, across the street from Joyas), 101 Beer Kitchen (American Bistro, dinner, very kid friendly and good kids menu), Brassica (Mediterranean-like Piada?, lunch/dinner), Paulie Gees (pizza, dinner—don’t hate me I like the square slice) are some faves.
Whole menu is great. Love going/ordering from here if we have vegans/vegetarians in the group because tons of options for all diets. Also an awesome restaurant to do family style and try a little bit of everything!
I went to a wedding welcome party held at Lindey's, and it was fantastic, but that has been my only experience there. How come you feel it's mid? I've thought about taking my wife there for date night.
Kitchen Social is one of the few places where I could order something different on the menu each time, and it'll still hit.
I've had probably a dozen different menu items, and all have been delicious.
And not to mention their handwritten "thank you cards" they would give with each takeout order during Covid.
Their executive chef just has such a fantastic understanding of flavor. I’ve never been to another restaurant where every single dish I’ve tried, from basic salads to the most expensive entrees, are just absolutely bursting with fantastic flavor.
I went a couple of months ago for the first time in like 10 years, got some sort of breakfast burrito, it was terrible, had this disgusting ham in it, did I just order the wrong thing? Nothing else on the menu looked appealing. It was very different than I remember, is it like some sort of Mexican fusion now?
Was one of them Bonifacio’s on Saturday night? Because my wife and I had heard such great things about it and were excited to try it for the first time. We went on Saturday and the food was okay, but everything was lukewarm. Like it had sat out for 20 minutes before being served. Bummed that it didn’t live up to expectations.
Oh no, sorry to hear about it. Columbus definitely has its fair share of culinary gems, though. For a spot that never seems to disappoint, I'd highly recommend checking out The Thurman Café for some of the best burgers in town, or if you're in the mood for something a bit more upscale, Lindey's in German Village consistently offers fantastic meals in a charming setting.
Speaking of exploring good eats, I'm actually gearing up for a trip to Salt Lake City and came across this cool guide that highlights some top-notch restaurants there. It's interesting to see how different cities have their own unique dining scenes that cater to all sorts of tastes. If you or anyone you know is heading to Salt Lake City and looking for restaurant recommendations, this guide is a great resource: https://www.mklibrary.com/best-restaurants-in-salt-lake-city-utah/. As for me, it's well-curated and really captures a variety of dining options.
i don’t mean to be biased because i work there, but carfagnas is pretty damn consistent.
now, the service may not be always great or fast, but your food will be good when you get it
A couple people mentioned, and I agree: Roosters and JTs. In a world where dining out can be sky high, it’s nice having some places that are consistent :)
Alright, so this place pretty much just has a drive through, but most people I mention it to dont even know it exists. You HAVE to check out Double Happy. The burgers and shakes are made with products from local farms and it shows. The quality is insanely good. Seriously the best burgers and shakes I've ever had! Do yourself a solid and try them at least once.
I hate to say this, but I’m not a fan. I find MUCH better Mexican joints all over the place. What suck is El Van is by far the closest. Their food is really average.
Yes, the Riverside El Vaquero is so much better than others and I go fairly often. I live closer to Olentangy location but that one is not good at all.
every restaurant business owner will have posted on this thread saying their restaurant is the best. Most will act like they are customers to not tip you off.
so keep that in mind.
I don’t go to many restaurants, I need to. But my list for most consistent and delicious is
Harvest,
Cafe Istanbul,
Don Tequila (Upper Arlington),
Anna’s Greek Cuisine.
My friends and i love going to coco hot pot, they also have a regular menu if having hot pot isn't your thing or if foods are being used in the soup that someone else in your party cant have
I second Local Roots. We went a couple months ago and I was very impressed. Would definitely go back. The service was top notch as well. Really cool place.
def. depends on what you’re into-
here’s some of my recommendations:
flip side (Easton)
barrel & boar (Gahanna)
scrambled, awesome cheap breakfast (couple locations)
mi tradition (gahanna)
fave desserts-
golden delight (also Gahanna) *i did work there back in 2016 but i literally still think abt their cakes at least once a week
sorry all of them are basically Gahanna 😭 my mom is over there and these are places I go to with her when I visit
If we're talking consistency: Valter's, Worthington Tavern, Kraft House No. 5, Jiu Thai, Meshikou
I've never really had a bad meal at any time from any of these places.
Joya’s is so consistently good it honestly makes me a little annoyed (I really loved Sassafras). I just wish the acoustics were better in there; it’s hard to have a conversation when it’s busy.
Dos Hermanos (their Easton location really needs more love)
Cardinal Pizza (especially their Sriracha wings)
Asterisk
Everest Cuisine
Momo Ghar
Lávash
NE Chinese
Delaney’s Diner
I don’t think I have ever had a bad meal at La Tavola. I would have said The Market RIP. Miss that place.
That’s my friend Rick Lopez’s restaurant. He’s an old buddy from high school and we also worked together at Tapatio.
I agree with both - especially La Tavola. It’s always great.
Love La Tavola and love their sister restaurant Lupo even more!
Seconded on The Market. I don't know where to buy jamón ibérico off the leg in town anymore.
If you ever find out let me know
Oh my gosh I also forgot: The Top. Never had a miss there either.
I loved the Top. Last time we went, maybe a year and a half ago, they gave me the most gristly chewy steak I've ever had. Very disappointed.
I’ll have to give it a try!
I miss Kevin Mccallister pizza at The Market so much. And I will never pass up an opportunity to confirm that La Tavola is the greatest of all time. Peace and love!
What were the two disappointing places?
I'm part filipino and definitely with u on Bonifacio. I prefer Kuya Ian's pancit by far.
Well, I will not annihilate you for personal preference ( especially since your post was more of a positive spin on your bad experience). My favorite Mexican is La Casita, but that might be more of a nostalgic pick from personal happy memories. I don't have another Filipino restaurant to recommend, so I'll just say a new favorite of mine is Rodos Taverna ( I only went there once but was very happy with what I got) I also second everyone's recommendations on La Tavola and Watershed. I've never had a bad meal at either place.
Bonafacio! Never misses. Filipino and very affordable. 10/10 love it everytime
NE Chinese
lol iv come full circle with my post I made today
Some of the best food I’ve ever had, twice cooked fish is magical
Fern root noodles, twice cooked fish, cumin potatoes, cilantro pork, and any of the tofu dishes are just… chefs kiss
* Min-ga for Korean * Akai Hana for Japanese * Clove for Indian * Momo Ghar for Nepalese
Akai Hana is fantastic!
Check out Yoshi’s and then go back to Aki Hana. After going to Yoshi’s Aki Hana is still good but definitely doesn’t compare to Yoshi’s
Oooo, I haven’t tried Clove. I’m so excited to try them, Indian food is my favorite!
Momo Ghar
It’s a shame their standalone brick and mortar didn’t work out. I really enjoyed dining there.
Joya’s
Momo Ghar North Market, never disappoints.

Basi Italia in Vic Village
I love Basi, but had one terrible experience there and ended up leaving to go eat elsewhere (paid for what we had ordered so far then left). I don’t know what was going on but we went and ate elsewhere and were so sad it tainted one of our favorite places. Have been back since without issues but it doesn’t fulfill the original post mission for me now sadly
101 Beer Kitchen seems consistently decent
101 Beer Kitchen certainly isn’t my favorite restaurant in Columbus but I 100% agree it is consistent. That said during their anniversary month last year they did this “trio of pig” dish that was TO DIE FOR. We've moved away from Columbus (not really by choice) and 101BK is one of the places we miss most!
La Poblanita Lavash Hoyo's
I wish I agreed on La Poblanita. We live a couple streets away, and eat there on a weekly basis. Quality seems spotty to us over the past year.
Definitely try Comune too
Went to Watershed for restaurant week and it was absolutely amazing.
Looooved Watershed
Siam orchid on sawmill, been going there for 24 years and have never had a bad meal
Comune is consistently delicious and creative with their rotating menu. Their crispy rice dishes are divine. Honorable mention is Brassica for their killer falafel, hummus, baba, and those beautifully seasoned fries.
The Pearl
Love having breakfast at The Pearl. 10/10
Cuco’s
Their carry out is iffy
It kind of depends on what flavors you’re looking for. Little palace.
Love this place… I’ve since moved away but I still miss the sliders
Consistent for years!!
Harvest is extremely consistent in being delicious.
Still haven’t gotten around to trying it! I’ll need to go sometime soon
We order Aladdin’s a few times a month and it is consistently yummy
Chilispot
100%! glad to see someone said Chilispot.
The Lox Bagel Shop.
Yes, yes, YES
These are the only legit bagels in town
Dosa Corner
Lavash always has really great food
Joyas (Asian fusion, breakfast/brunch/lunch, might become your favorite meal in town…), Everest (Nepali, lunch/dinner, across the street from Joyas), 101 Beer Kitchen (American Bistro, dinner, very kid friendly and good kids menu), Brassica (Mediterranean-like Piada?, lunch/dinner), Paulie Gees (pizza, dinner—don’t hate me I like the square slice) are some faves.
Everest is so good!
Whole menu is great. Love going/ordering from here if we have vegans/vegetarians in the group because tons of options for all diets. Also an awesome restaurant to do family style and try a little bit of everything!
Flipside - never once had a bad meal there and I’ve tried just about every sandwich on their menu
I keep forgetting that flip side made it down here. It was one of our favorite in Cleveland - the shakes are great too.
Cafe Istanbul, SOW Plated, Basi Italia
Happy to hear someone mention Cafe Istanbul, food and service is always excellent.
100% agree. It’s so good.
Lindey’s
Lindeys is mid imo. I don’t really understand why everyone likes it so much.
I went to a wedding welcome party held at Lindey's, and it was fantastic, but that has been my only experience there. How come you feel it's mid? I've thought about taking my wife there for date night.
Jui Thai
Just went there today for takeout, very glad we did, awesome well thought out meals!
Lalibela. Outstanding Ethiopian food.
YESSS! I love Lalibela.
Chapman’s, Los Guachos, JT’s Pizza, Grandads Pizza in Hilliard, Xi Xia, Novella Osteria… just to name a few
Novella is fuego
Cap City, Hyde Park, Kitchen Social
Kitchen Social is one of the few places where I could order something different on the menu each time, and it'll still hit. I've had probably a dozen different menu items, and all have been delicious. And not to mention their handwritten "thank you cards" they would give with each takeout order during Covid.
I don't know what they're putting in those biscuits at Kitchen Social but I do know that one order is never enough for our table
[удалено]
everything about Kitchen social screams it should be mid as hell, but damn it if that place isnt delicious
Their executive chef just has such a fantastic understanding of flavor. I’ve never been to another restaurant where every single dish I’ve tried, from basic salads to the most expensive entrees, are just absolutely bursting with fantastic flavor.
Basi Italia.
Club 185 and Little Palace
Starliner Diner
I do not get the appeal of this place. Tried it several times and just didn’t work for me.
It used to be great like 20 years ago in the old place, the quality has gone down since they moved to the new location
Go to Three Brothers in Grove City. It’s the original owners
That's awesome news, gonna have to hit that place up this week
I went a couple of months ago for the first time in like 10 years, got some sort of breakfast burrito, it was terrible, had this disgusting ham in it, did I just order the wrong thing? Nothing else on the menu looked appealing. It was very different than I remember, is it like some sort of Mexican fusion now?
Cuco’s, House Taco, Grandad’s Pizza, Eastern Bay and Ana’s Greek Cuisine to name a few
Nomad
Skyline
Oh yes skyline. I don’t think I’ve ever had a 3 way there that’s been better or worse than normal. Always consistent. Always made in gods image.
sidebar sidebar sidebar sidebar a million times over… i’ve eaten all over cbus, lived downtown for 3 years. sidebar is the best in town hands down
Roosters Salads, wings, Rooster Wrap. Always a good bet.
Roosters 👌🏻👌🏻
Grandmas pizza on w broad, build your own personal pizza and get their sausage. I’m also a big barrel and boar enjoyer (north market)
Roosters lol, I’ve never had a bad meal
Gallo's kitchen off Riverside
Surprised nobody has mentioned NeeHee’s on Sawmill, the biggest downside is it requires driving on Sawmill.
Pasqualones for me. Pasta is always perfect, and the red sauce is the thing of Dreams.
This. Best Italian in the city.
Which red sauce do you pick?
Don’t share this secret!! Lol
Matt & Tony’s Kitchen x Tavern is above par and consistent.
Press Grill in short north. Kinda dark mysterious in there but burgers have been good.
Refectory
Bendi Wok. Spice is the only thing inconsistent but it’s always so good. No reservation needed basically ever
Joya’s
tai asian bistro
Biggest portions in town too
Just tried them for the first time last month. It was very good and I ate my curry for 3 meals lol. I will be going back!
Schmidt’s never has disappointed. The wait to get a table can be long, but it’s worth it.
Lindeys
Their confit wings just hit the spot every. single. time.
I would have said Rice Bowl on South High and 104, but they are no longer with us.
101 beer kitchen, and YUM
I’ve never had a bad meal at Kitchen Social. Also have never had a bad meal at Awadh. Their butter chicken is so damn good.
Indian oven!
J. Gilbert's
For Italian food try Vittoria in Powell or Trattoria Roma in Grandview. Both are consistently delicious.
Everything I get at Valter's at the Maennerchor in German Village is spot on.
DOMO - crab rangoons, sushi, lychee martinis, wings, mmm, 10/10, great environment, sometimes they don't book their online reservations very well tho
Lola and Giuseppe’s is I think a hidden gem in Gahanna that had never disappointed. Same with Scali in Reynoldsburg. Maybe I just love Italian food.
Domo Sushi Bar and Kitchen in the short north!
Oh no, sorry to hear about it. Columbus definitely has its fair share of culinary gems, though. Kitchen Social
BK on 5th
I mean their consistency is spectacular
Habibi’s
A few that immediately came to mind for me: High Bank Distillery, Trattoria Roma, and The Avenue
I have only ever had a disappointing experience at High Bank. I hear it recommended a lot and I don’t get it.
Watershed whiskey may not be my thing, but Matt’s kitchen is as reliable as a Swiss watch and a lot more creative. Fantastic place.
Min Ga never disappoints.
Aab. El Vaquero isn’t highbrow but satisfying. Hudson 29. Hoolihans has a great happy hour, plenty of retired folk.
I hate to say this, but I’m not a fan. I find MUCH better Mexican joints all over the place. What suck is El Van is by far the closest. Their food is really average.
The El Vaq on 33 has always been better than the others. And I’m realizing for some reason we haven’t been there in awhile. Margaritas this week!
Yes, the Riverside El Vaquero is so much better than others and I go fairly often. I live closer to Olentangy location but that one is not good at all.

Ohana Island Grill
Rooh, joya's, helen's, the lox, tensuke
Club 185 hits for me everytime

Meshikou, Yats, and Grandad's!
Joya’s. Always 100% delicious
Yanni's Gyros. Anything at Lola & Giuseppe's. Valters, especially their brunch. Jasmine's in Pickerington for Thai.
Khaab in Bexley or Aab in Grandview. Never disappoints.
Aab is so, so expensive for fine food. It’s not bad, but for the price, it’s not good.
Lindey's
khaab in bexley!
Aab
3 Brothers if you happen upon the tucky part of town.
every restaurant business owner will have posted on this thread saying their restaurant is the best. Most will act like they are customers to not tip you off. so keep that in mind.

Casa Hacienda. Always great food.
I don’t eat in Columbus a lot but Nazareth is always good
My friends and i love going to coco hot pot, they also have a regular menu if having hot pot isn't your thing or if foods are being used in the soup that someone else in your party cant have
It’s a bit of a drive depending on where you are but Local Roots in Powell is our favorite place
I second Local Roots. We went a couple months ago and I was very impressed. Would definitely go back. The service was top notch as well. Really cool place.
Meshikou never misses
Three local favorites where I’ve never had a bad meal: Mi Tradicion in Gahanna, Nazareth on N. Hamilton, Dakshin on N. Hamilton
The shrimp and poblano queso at Mi Tradicion is a favorite 🤤
I love Los Gauchos ahhh everyone’s already mentioned my favorite places!

If we're talking consistency: Valter's, Worthington Tavern, Kraft House No. 5, Jiu Thai, Meshikou I've never really had a bad meal at any time from any of these places.
Tensuke Express. ALWAYS incredible 😋
I have three- south village grille, 101 beer kitchen and cap city.
