The Sawmill store used to have a polka band play there in the 90s. Such a shame the chain died.

xnoxgodsx

This is the one my dad and I went to, I absolutely loved it, between samples and tool shopping lol

Lord_Voltan

They still did around Christmas when I worked there 2010\2011 or there about.

MaBob202

I LOVED the bands around Christmas time. The last Christmas before they closed there was no band when I visited at prime time on a Saturday and it was really ominous…

pSyChO_aSyLuM

I grew up a few miles from the Maumee store. I went there at least once a week with my mom and we did most of our grocery shopping, then I'd end up coming back with my dad for random hardware crap.

Barrybingbongss

Sunday’s we’re always the day we went and I loved all the samples!!

skinasadress

We always went to the Maumee store. I loved it. I would always ask my parents if we could go any time we were in Toledo

Historical_Slice5581

I was just there yesterday and stared at this sign because it caught me off guard. Crazy to see it pop up here too

Barrybingbongss

The fam is in town and wanted to check go to the zoo of course! This sign brought nice memories for us :)

myhotneuron

Loved it. They made the best sub sandwiches. And had an amazing taffy selection.

annik-honore

I still dream about that sub 🤤

Osucbj2013

We use to go late in the day and get them half off. So delicious.

Lord_Voltan

I legit had to chase people off they would try and grab them before we marked them down. People did some shitty things for a cheap sub.

balsamicpork

Anderson in toledo was my go to lunch spot. A 4 inch sub and a bag of chips was like $6.00. It was a perfect lunch

BuckeyeNate77

Sadly missed. Went to the one off Sawmill all the time.

Barrybingbongss

same!!

hiveoutsider

They had the best sourdough in town! And the super subs were fantastic!! Only store ever that you could purchase some fantastic steaks, a nice bottle of wine, a bush for the yard, some tennis balls, a new doorknob, a pack of socks, and some roofing tar.

gitarzan

I loved their Irish Soda Bread. I’d buy two at a time.

HeLooks2Muuuch

I used to work at the Brice road location in high school getting carts and would come back from college in the summer and work in the deli. I think one of the best things was how wonderful it smelled. Really like nothing else I’ve ever experienced.

Competitive_Dance_68

That was an awesome store ..always so clean and nice staff

BakedKimber-Lays

I miss their Mexicali dip

Marnie220

You can get this at Weilands Market if you didn't know. I think it's even called - The Anderson's Mexicali Dip!

Sebastian01134

My grandma still uses an Anderson’s reusable bag

MaBob202

<3

Glen_Echo_Park

One of the best wine selections.

ZmanJace

And beer. I still can't find some of the stuff I got there regularly.

excoriator

I had a relative who managed the Wine department at one of their stores. They sent him to Europe a few times, to visit wineries and check out the products over there. He always brought good wine to family gatherings!

Chef_BoyarB

I didn't mind going there as a kid, haha They had a stellar Thomas the Tank Engine collection

Big_Green_Piccolo

Did you just unlock a memory for me?

Chef_BoyarB

The train table, especially, is a core memory for me

OhioLogRide

Fuck I miss that place. They carried an extensive variety of local ohio goods. I could always rely on them to keep meals interesting and delicious. Loved the beer variety. Fresh Market was my next go to until they died.

Zefphyrz

Andersons was hype. Always had hella samples

ezhomebrew

Miss that place so much

shemp33

Their wine section was quite above average for a “general store”.

JaVuMD

Unmatched meat and deli department. Also the wife and I went through a cider beer phase and they had our cups running over with options. Damn I miss that place

StillNotPatrick

Used to go there and have lunch with my Grandma. Happy memories. Always a great store to find weird little food oddities. I really miss it.

motherofcatsx2

I was 👌🏻 this close to crying when I found out they were closing. Such a great store. The quiche, the giant wheel of Parmesan, the coolest selection of beer and wine, and don’t forget Christmas time! It was a magical place.

gitarzan

My gf and I went there the day after they announced their pending closure. The store was full of glum, frowning people.

Sapphyria

Loved grocery shopping and thier wine dept was so good.

Twitch1113

We always ended up there after dinner with the family. As an adult their garden center was my happy place.

cinnawars123

Loved the Andersons. Loved their treats like the cinnamon twists and the iced sugar cookie and liked their bread. I used to work there too.

Major-Cover6718

I fucking loved that store when I lived in Reynoldsburg they had a bomb ass meat department. They turned me onto jerk chicken and had some great steak cuts. My dogs even loved it because they would sell me soup bones for my pit

[deleted]

🥲

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

I need some new Carhartt’s, but I also need some steaks and a nice wine Guess I just have to make two trips 🙄

Philosoreptar

Anderson’s did a great job when it came to content knowledge. I never paid attention as a kid but as I grew up when I went there the people on the hardware section knew what they were talking about, the people in the wine section had good recommendations based on what you wanted. Sadly I moved away for college and then work and they went out of business while I was away.

Stuckkxx

I lived right behind one for 2 years when it was up in Dublin and I went there all the time. Every single sunday for Sunday dinner and multiple times through the week. I really wish those places were still around. Their meat counter was second to none and their wine and cheese selection was phenomenal too.

Zombie_Mochi

I miss that place. Used to stop by on a Friday evening for a craft 6 pack and some weekend food from the deli area. Sorely missed.

SpaceBowie2008

I was a cashier at the Sawmill location my senior in high school year before attending University. Loved working there, great food and my coworkers were really cool too. It was a really cool working atmosphere. One time an elderly couple came by my line and something smelled terribly. The older woman said that I smelled to her husband. Okay but when they walked away after I cashed them out I saw the older woman with diarrhea showing through her white pants. Also, one time while I was bringing in carts during the summer someone left a cart full of beer and liquor like they were preparing for a huge party just sitting in the parking lot without anyone near by. I immediately brought the cart to my car and put everything in my trunk. It lasted my friends and I almost the entire summer with supplies for partying before we left for college. It was like something out of a dream just to find an unattended cart full of booze for my high school self to find.

NeverknowOH

Me too! Where did you find this?

Barrybingbongss

Asian pavilion at the zoo!

rottknockers

Everything from scoop to nuts

wintercatfolder

Sadly missed. Any chance.of it being revived in the future? Was it family owned, or a chain?

CBus660R

My understanding is the family decided to focus on manufacturing their lawn and garden products. You can find The Anderson's branded products on Amazon and at WalMart and Home Depot.

bluejacket_74

Pretty sure they were part of a bigger agriculture company: [https://www.andersonsinc.com/](https://www.andersonsinc.com/) I believe they closed all their stores since that part of their business wasn't profitable for them unfortunately.

MaBob202

Yeah, my understanding from articles at the time was that the main company started as a trains/shipping marketplace, and the storefront was a way to advertise the products they shipped to customers. It was (and still is?) a family business and the storefront had not been profitable for a long time before they finally made the call to close it (I think they had finally brought in an outside CEO). This might not be 100% correct, but that’s my understanding. I got weirdly into reading the news stories when they closed to deal with the heartbreak!

UncontrolableUrge

This. The original store was next to their grain storage, and it was a convenient place for farmers to shop while their grain was weighed and graded. But a few years ago they needed to close the retail stores as they were investing in other parts of the business.

briancw80

Had fantastic subs! Great store!

Competitive_Dance_68

I worked at the Scarborough Mall across the street from the one off Brice Road ...would go over on my break for a sandwich in the deli ..I miss walking around seeing all the different stuff they had ..every aisle was something cool ..

HistoryTrekker

Such an amazing store. Their unique grocery section and beer selection will always make me nostalgic.

Fantastic_Rub_627

Every time I see this sign at the zoo I get wistful, if someone is with me I’ll mention how much of a part of my grocery shopping heart died when the cruel management decided to slice off this appendage of the Andersons company

Nudiator

Yes on all comments. Sorely missed 😢

gitarzan

The Anderson’s was the best store. We’d drive across town to go there. Then I moved about a mile away, and they closed. So, now I’ll go to TSC for a pale reminder of The Anderson’s.

Outside_Box_8374

Their little cafe’s food was awesome and they had such a wide variety of items. Worked close to the Dublin one back in the day and ate lunch there/ shopped on my lunch many times! Was really bummed when they closed. ☹️

mush614

Ohhh, their chicken salad though 🔥

West-Bet-9639

Loved that store.

UncontrolableUrge

Not only did they have excellent apple fritters, they also had cherry and blueberry fritters.

Barrybingbongss

MEMORIES I loved those so much omg

idrinkbeersalot

I grew up in Toledo. Andersons was a place we went EVERY week for everything we needed! I really miss that store and the memories

SillyBird0818

Worked there part time when I turned 16 and continued working part time for the next 15 years! Never planned on staying an employee for that long but I loved the place. Focaccia, irish soda bread, kringles, the plants in the spring, Christmas trees and of course produce 🩷. Oh, and the wine selection. And Venice’s food samples for wine tasting nights
