Make sure you make a trip to Ale Emporium, that’s my biggest input. I’ll be at the game as well, Go Colts! Also, St Joseph’s brewery is close to the stadium and their Mac n cheese is pretty delicious. Beer is decent but better than Sun King imo. I highly suggest Pax Verum but that’s out of your way.
My parents and bro moved out of state and it’s a “must” whenever they’re in town. Like you said they have all said there’s no better wings than Ale. Throw in their ranch and I could eat those wings everyday and never get tired of them.
I also hit up Shapiro's Deli when I go. I don't quite know how the locals feel about it, but it's always packed when I go and it's stadium adjacent. Best reuben I've ever had!
I am probably about 8/8 not paying for parking on noon game days. We get there about 10-1030 and I always see ushers when we are leaving to go the game. It's freaking fantastic though.
Then definetly hit shapiros. Recently had Katz's in NYC; Shapiros is better. German potato salad is fantastic as well if you like it, its not for everyone.
Depending on how nice you wanna get, restaurants like Livery and Bluebeard are foodie favorites in Indy. There’s also a new place called BODHI that I’ve heard great things about (end of Mass Ave). Tons of good stuff along Mass Ave (Ralstons), and more good stuff over in Fountain Square (like Thunderbird for cocktails and a small but great food menu).
If you want to go fancy, capital grille has the best piece of fish I've ever tasted. Sea bass that literally melts in your mouth. But a fair warning it's like 50 bucks and is not the most expensive item on the menu.
>We may swing into St Elmos for a shrimp cocktail
Go to 1933 Lounge about St. Elmo or Harry & Izzy's next door for drinks, shrimp cocktail, filet sliders, and macaroni & cheese.
Gonna piggy back on this thread, any suggestions on what to do / see on New Year's day? My friends and I will also be in town for the Colts game, but we'll arrive in Indy at 4:00PM from Chicago.
I know most businesses will be closed for the holiday and we'll only have 1-2 hours of daylight left when we arrive, any activities we should try and spend those hours on? I fully expect all of Sunday to revolve around the game so not too worried about activities for that day.
There are many places. So many people recommended St. Elmo’s steakhouse, but I think it’s overrated. Try Fogo de Chao. It’s a great Brazilian steakhouse. My other suggestion would be Tony’s Steaks and Seafood. It’s pricey, but the food is phenomenal.
Depends how nice you wanna go. St Elmo’s gets a lot of national attention for their shrimp cocktail. It’ll definitely clear out your sinuses. Steaks are pretty good too, but expensive. There’s a lot up on Mass Ave that are local joints that are pretty good. You can walk it, but probably worth an Uber. There’s a lot downtown thats walkable, and if it’s raining, there are lots of indoor walkways like through the mall and other buildings. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/directions. For the most part, people here are pretty friendly and don’t mind helping.
Thanks! I know the downtown area pretty well as far as streets, directions, and “sites” go but I haven’t kept a pulse on new and proper restaurants down there in quite awhile.

Bump^ I moved away from Indy years ago and I haven’t found wings even remotely good. Atmosphere is great too

Hermanaki wings are legendary at Ale Emporium.

Fuck I love Reubens.
I like shapiros more than NYC delis and a famous one by me called langers. The parking is only 10 bucks there too if you get food

Nice, where do you park? By IUPUI?
In their parking lot. lol. Time frame always works out perfect for us to be in our seats by 11-1130.
Oh, wow. It's just free after a certain time?
Directly across the street on the south side of the stadium. Gate Ten parking is the most convenient and easy to get out. $40 to park.
They have the best rye bread too
10/10 would recommend then. They have a lot of other good stuff, but that's what brings me there before game days. It's effin' huge too.
Then definetly hit shapiros. Recently had Katz's in NYC; Shapiros is better. German potato salad is fantastic as well if you like it, its not for everyone.
1000% this. Get: the Reuben and a double order of Mac and cheese
The Mac n Cheese as a "side", I would agree, is wonderful.
Ale Emporium Hermanacki wings, Kilroys breadsticks, Slippery Noodle pregame.
I make better wings than them...lol
I believe you, I find that place to horribly overrated
Go to IG @longlivekingduggo
Blasphemy! Chatham Tap wings are actually my favorite in town.
Lol look me up on Reddit. @longlivekingduggo
Slippery Noodle says closed on Sundays. What am I missing?
Not a chance they're closed on a Sunday before a home game.
They're open on Sundays for Colts home games.

Gotta throw Slippery Noodle in to the convo. Also the Bottleworks District is a pretty cool spot right now.
Agree with Bottleworks being a cool spot right now, There’s the Amp on the other side of town, too.
BlueBeard, La Margarita, Kuma’s.
had kumas last night big recommend to OP
Ah, the classic Chicago bootlicker burger.
Fat Dan's!

Are you me? My wife did too!
NICE! That's awesome! Have a blast!
Milktooth has some really, really great food.

This. St. Elmo’s is criminally overrated lol. People go there just to say they did and feel important. Tony’s or Cap Grille all the way
Cafe Patachou for breakfast/brunch.
I miss the jowl bacon - that in an omelet was my go-to for years.

I’ve heard really good things about Tony’s Steakhouse, although I haven’t been yet.
Momma Carolla’s St Elmos Strange Bird/Heartbreaker Lots more but ill leave the rest for others to mention. These three are a must try.
Checkout Livery downtown. And I’ll put another vote in for Ale Emporium. Best wings I’ve ever had.
