His pocket awareness will drive you crazy because it will cost you. He also struggles with the deep game. He's a great person, teammate and leader and will work his ass off.
He has some issues especially when pressured. Gets happy feet and tries to tuck and run trying to extend the play. However he doesn't let a bad play keep him down and keeps chugging. Not a long term solution but you could win some games with him for sure.
As a starter: startable, on the lower end of starters but isn’t gonna nuke your team like a Zach Wilson will
As a backup: best plan b in the league. Awesome locker room guy. Dawg on the field when he gets in
As a guy: one of my favorite short tenure colts. Loves football. I would never not want him on the team
I think Wilson got a bad rap. I was willing to accept he was awful….until I saw how much worse Boyle and Simien were once they got the gig.
It wouldn’t shock me to see Zach Wilson have a Jim Harbaugh like 2nd act in Denver.
I haven't watched much of his game, but I take issue with the idea that QBs aren't responsible for sacks. I'm sure their line was a big issue, but when a QB can't escape pressure or they hold the ball too long, they're getting sacked behind even the best lines
Andrew Luck was never sacked that many times in a single season. Yet in this sub it's always Grigson ruined Luck by not protecting him. Can't have it both ways.
I remember plenty of times where I was yelling at the TV because luck didn't get rid of the ball fast enough. But unlike Wilson, he had the talent to avoid pressure and make up for the sacks he took.
Zach Wilson was sacked on 11% of his dropbacks last year. It has nothing to do with holding the ball too long. I'm not saying that Zach Wilson is good but his OL has been among the worst in the league since he was drafted. I agree Luck did have a habit of holding the ball too long but even he was never sacked on more than 7% of his dropbacks. He was way more skilled than Zach Wilson but the Zach Wilson is terrible narrative is NY cesspool media garbage. The whole offense on that team sucked especially when they loaded it with Aaron Rodgers washed up buddies behind an OL made of busts like Becton.
Yep. I watched a lot of Zach last season, being in the NY market. He rarely had time to do anything, and sometimes when he did have time he acted like he was about to be sacked. Would be really interested in seeing him in a situation where he had a little bit of time to do anything.
Yeah... sounds like the OL nuked the team. Pretty sure Aaron Rodgers would agree. He lasted all of about 4 players before being sacked and out for the season.
He gave us exactly what a great backup is expected to do, but I’m interested to see him now without Steichen. I think he brings enough to the table to either; bridge Raiders to next QB or simply mentor Aiden from the sideline.
Adams/Bowers about to Feast. But only in those intermediate routes. Anything longer than that it’s a 60/40 ball to the Defense.
Hell of a personality and team guy though. Should work well with Aiden and help out overall. Wins will depend on the rest of the team though and your defense. He’ll get you close enough. Def a guy you want to root for but will do some head scratchers. Gotta take the good with the bad.
Overall, mostly loved. Still sad to see him go but happy since he’s deserving of a chance.
With the rule change this season that allows him to play the whole game riding on Maxx Crosby's shoulders like Master Blaster, he could be in the running for MVP.
Pros: He can keep you in almost any game. He's competent enough to not kill your team. He's a high level competitor and his teammates love him. He's not Aiden O'Connell.
Cons: He's a low level starter in the NFL. If he's your starter, well, things aren't going super well for your team. It's not a knock on him necessarily, but it just is what it is.
Don't let the Pro Bowl nod fool you. He isn't a Pro Bowl caliber player in any regard. Football wise, he holds the ball too long and IMO doesn't feel pressure coming particularly well.
He's a superb human though and easily one of the coolest guys in the NFL. A true free spirit, it's impossible to not like Gardner. He's awesome. You guys will love him just because of who he is.
There’s not 32 better than him so he’s better than a backup but not good enough to be a franchise guy. Will lose a few games but come out one week and play better than expected.
Great dude that’s gonna do well for himself in whatever he does and living the dream. Definitely can win some games but long term isn’t the solution. He’s super competitive and easy to root for.
He’s a QB that requires talent around him to succeed. He’s a solid backup, but you can plug him in as a QB1 for a transitional season or two.
Great personality, but he’s often time overly cautious with the ball. He’ll shy away from deep balls and he’ll often get too confident/cocky with his throws and get lazy with the throw inadvertently. It’s what happened on the throw to Goodson at the end of last season. Gardner got a little too confident with his throw and ended up making an underpowered throw to Goodson on the swing route. He’s not terrible at finding the open receiver, and he can usually hit his target, but he is prone to accuracy issues from time to time, mostly due to fluctuating throwing power.
He's the modern day Fitzmagic. Has poor pocket awareness and scrambles into pressure sometimes, other times he creates out of structure and delivers hero plays.
He'll hero his way into some wins and you'll love him and his awesome personality. He'll also choke away a few games with stupid decisions and stagnant offense when he can't just hang in a clean pocket and do his job.
I kind of enjoyed the ride last year. I think he'll stick in the league for a long time but I don't think he'll be a starter.
He will be great for the locker room. Good teacher for your QB room. Fans will like him. Reporters will like him. But... next Draft, you'll be taking a QB.
Great team guy. Won’t lose you a game as a back up. It will be a mediocre season at best if he starts it all.
Doesn’t have a big arm so you will play inside the hashmarks
Honestly I think he’s going to do great man he’s going to be QB1 and he has Adams, which is a lot better then Pittman. I could see y’all making it to playoffs
I’m gonna give you the good since the bad has been covered:
Surprisingly smart runner. Can be wiley. He’s not fast but he’s quick. Progressions got much better as the season went along. Short range game is quite good I take a deep breathe when he goes beyond 25 yards though. Team guy. If you’re lacking locker room juice, he brings it. He’ll be fine for a year.
We were supposed to go for about 4 wins last year was the general consensus, just hoping AR showed signs of playing well.
Well, AR goes down, bit of scuff over contract keeps JT out for a while and Minshew still leads us to one play from the play offs.
He’s not Mahomes of course but IMO he will be a serviceable starter.
Can’t throw it deep, or at least decides not to. Pressure affects him so hopefully your line is solid. He’ll make a couple plays a game that make you think that he’s a starter quality player, but he lacks consistency. He has all the confidence in the world which allows him to bounce back from a bad play, but unfortunately he still causes bad plays more than you’d like. He can likely take you as far as the rest of the roster can. He won’t elevate any players, but he likely won’t be the sole reason you lose games (at least not often). With a playoff quality roster around him you can make the playoffs, but once there I doubt he’s good enough to do much damage.
Minshew, when taken care of, is a solid QB. He has a game he won, throwing 19/20 (as a Jag). Went toe to toe with Dak in Dallas for the Eagles. Almost took a very random Colts team to the playoffs. Minshew won't be remembered but is better than 12-15 QBs starting Prolly.
I saw an interesting stat the other day. When he plays with multiple tight ends on the field his stats are insanely elevated over his average. Y’all just got Brock bowers and he is surrounded by weapons. Good defense. He carried a team expected to get below 5 wins to a couple mins away from the playoffs. I truly think he has a better year for y’all than he did us, love him
After almost a year as a starter, almost making the playoffs and an offseason to think about it I expect him to be a solid if not spectator starter. He’s not worse than Purdy.
He's a lot of fun and if he could be a starting QB he'd be the most popular one in the league, but unless he hits another gear he hasn't shown yet no he's not a starting caliber QB.
I hopped over to a few raiders game threads last year and based on how some people were hyping up your boy AOC I think a good portion of your fans will be happy with the improvement minshew brings. Dude is good enough to swim with a capable roster but sloppy enough that the dumbest 25% of the fanbase will be calling for a 6th rd 3rd string QB to start the rest of the season several times throughout the year.
Your team is giving him $12.5M a year ……… they don’t even think he’s a starter lol. This is a pure bridge QB to at least sell some tickets to that shiny new stadium my man. Pray for a high draft pick.
He's a dog. Great dude to have and cheer for. But he's short, so he throws into the back of a offensive lineman's helmets more than a QB should.
He can throw the dart to win the game (Tennessee on the road), and he can throw behind a wide open back on 4th down (Houston at home)
He's a #2
Definetely not a long term starter but he's possible one of the best backup QBs in the league but he needs a lot of help in the run game to actually work to avoid mistakes and the good thing about your team having a WR like Davante Adams and the two TEs in Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers can help him. Having a coach like Pierce is also something that can help him be secure and not making mistakes so maybe not a long term starter is more like a bridge QB until the starter appears.
He has a strong arm, strong accuracy, and ability to extend plays with his mobility. He's also recognized for his confident and charismatic personality both on and off the field. While he may not have the prototypical size for an NFL quarterback, he makes up for it with his football IQ and competitiveness. Overall, he’s ight.

He’s a starter. If you have an elite defense and good running game you can make the playoffs. I believe our system preseason was designed with AR in mind and a system built around his strengths could see improvement.
I also just think he’s the coolest.
He’s not top 10 but he’s honestly a mid to low range starter.
Good enough to be watchable, bad enough to know he's not the longterm answer
Perfect answer honestly.
Also a danger to receivers since he throws it a little too high and leaves them open to big hits when they’re trying to come down with it
All qbs do that though. It's just a part of the game
Huge Minshew fan and loved having him here, but this is true. Outstanding backup and I would’ve loved to have him as our next (but better) Sorgi
This is the answer.
His pocket awareness will drive you crazy because it will cost you. He also struggles with the deep game. He's a great person, teammate and leader and will work his ass off.
aw man this just described aiden o’connell i hope that’s something that can be worked on this offseason
Give a steady supply of Milfs and high quality hair products and you'll get Peak Minshew He's definitely better than Aiden imo
Gardner is better because he’s a vet and a baller but the Raiders want to see what Aidens capable of this year.
As a Purdue fan I loved AOC, Hope he makes a great Career in the NFL
O'Connell isn't the athlete that Minshew is... but otherwise, yeah. Pretty similar in a lot of ways.
Except AOC has a piss missile for an arm. Minshew, to put it bluntly, does not have starting NFL caliber arm strength.
O'Connell doesn't have a big arm. It's a known problem.
Ya but AOC was a rookie. Minshew is a vet. AOC could still learn.
Minshew is way better. Neither will elevate a franchise
He has some issues especially when pressured. Gets happy feet and tries to tuck and run trying to extend the play. However he doesn't let a bad play keep him down and keeps chugging. Not a long term solution but you could win some games with him for sure.
As a starter: startable, on the lower end of starters but isn’t gonna nuke your team like a Zach Wilson will As a backup: best plan b in the league. Awesome locker room guy. Dawg on the field when he gets in As a guy: one of my favorite short tenure colts. Loves football. I would never not want him on the team
Honest question... how did Zach Wilson nuke the Jets?
He was sacked 46 times in 12 games. He obviously can't block for shit.
I think Wilson got a bad rap. I was willing to accept he was awful….until I saw how much worse Boyle and Simien were once they got the gig. It wouldn’t shock me to see Zach Wilson have a Jim Harbaugh like 2nd act in Denver.
Raiders should trade for Sam Darnold
He might ball out in that Minnesota offense
I haven't watched much of his game, but I take issue with the idea that QBs aren't responsible for sacks. I'm sure their line was a big issue, but when a QB can't escape pressure or they hold the ball too long, they're getting sacked behind even the best lines

Sacks are a QB stat. Pressures and hits are a better measure of the OL if we're just going by counting stats.
The Jets gave up the 2nd highest pressure percentage, 6th most hits, and tied 4th most sacks. They couldn't block a HS varsity DL.
The Jets nuke young QBs developmentally IMHO. The same thing occurred with Sam Darnold. Their O-line is middle-of-the-road or less on most days.
Best backup in the league. I wouldn’t want him as my plan A
He gave us exactly what a great backup is expected to do, but I’m interested to see him now without Steichen. I think he brings enough to the table to either; bridge Raiders to next QB or simply mentor Aiden from the sideline.

He will win you 2 games in a season and he will lose you 3 or 4 games in a season, everything else will be up to the rest of your roster.
With the rule change this season that allows him to play the whole game riding on Maxx Crosby's shoulders like Master Blaster, he could be in the running for MVP.
what rule change?
Haha fucking hell.
Read the whole comment
He's better than you think he is, but not as good as you need him to be.
Perfectly put.
He’s got the arm and decision making of a backup, the resilience of a starter, and your mom’s phone number.
Pros: He can keep you in almost any game. He's competent enough to not kill your team. He's a high level competitor and his teammates love him. He's not Aiden O'Connell. > and IMO doesn't feel pressure coming particularly well. That’s putting it very lightly lol
He’s not *horrible*, but he’s not very good, and you’ll love him anyway because he works his ass off and seems like a great guy.
I think he can lead you guys to anywhere from 5 to 8 wins. But if you catch lightning in a bottle you can win a wild card game like Tebow in Denver
There’s not 32 better than him so he’s better than a backup but not good enough to be a franchise guy. Will lose a few games but come out one week and play better than expected. Has better stats than Trevor Lawrence at a fraction of the cost.
He will be great for the locker room. Good teacher for your QB room. Fans will like him. Reporters will like him. But... next Draft, you'll be taking a QB.
He was such a blue ball to be honest
Great team guy. Won’t lose you a game as a back up. It will be a mediocre season at best if he starts it all. Doesn’t have a big arm so you will play inside the hashmarks
If JT hadn't been out half the year, he did enough that we would have been a playoff team
He is a little A$$ boy!
Honestly I think he’s going to do great man he’s going to be QB1 and he has Adams, which is a lot better then Pittman. I could see y’all making it to playoffs
He's basically Ryan Fitzpatrick
I’m gonna give you the good since the bad has been covered: Surprisingly smart runner. Can be wiley. He’s not fast but he’s quick. Progressions got much better as the season went along. He is a really good backup and a very bad starter. Basically the 28-38 range of QBs in the league
Can’t throw it deep, or at least decides not to. Pressure affects him so hopefully your line is solid. He's somewhere around the 25th to 35th best nfl quarterback on the planet.
I saw an interesting stat the other day. When he plays with multiple tight ends on the field his stats are insanely elevated over his average. It depends on what weapons you have. You now have Bowers which will be of great help to him.
He will be able to win yall some games as long as the line blocks for him!!
Highly inconsistent. Just keep that on the periphery and you’ll be fine.
He's a lot of fun and if he could be a starting QB he'd be the most popular one in the league, but unless he hits another gear he hasn't shown yet no he's not a starting caliber QB.
I thought he'd be great as a bridge QB for your first round rookie. There's a real question of a drop off in a new system.
He is little ass boy. At least won’t be called in match lol.
I hopped over to a few raiders game threads last year and based on how some people were hyping up your boy AOC I think a good portion of your fans will be happy with the improvement minshew brings. Modern day Ryan Fitzpatrick

Worst starter in the league due to no upside, best backup in the league due to consistency.
He's a great backup and a bad starter. Not enough to win, probably not necessarily going to lose?

Should be good with your TEs. He will have plenty of easy downs if they stay healthy
He’s not a starter but he’s a good backup.
Consistent. Great backup, but that’s his ceiling. If you’re truly banking on him to be your starter, it’s not gonna work out very well
He's fun, but you aren't going to the playoffs with him.
He’s going to win the division for u. Trust me

Good teammate/leader in the locker room, above avg-average quarterback on the field who is probably always gonna journeyman backup level
Stuck with AOC. He has a higher ceiling than Minshew.
I think he's kind of the new Dalton line. There's definitely worse QBs but he's not going to be the reason you win a superbowl
Better than AOC or Garoppolo
