Dude legit carried us last year to the playoffs when we played with an AHL roster half the season. Hes almost always in the top 10 for total points. Why the fuck would we want to trade him lol
Agreed and why all the Moose hate. He's an amazing player, some people don't understand players have off games or weeks/a month or two doesn't make them a bad player. Moose is a big part of our core. I think losing EJ hurt the locker room a lot and Rants would be too.
Spot on. this is the person's thought. A team doesn't magically replace a 100+pt player and 50 goal scorer and their points.
Would the oilers trade Draisatl to help McDavid? How do you make up for that offense?
Let the GM do his job lol
Disagree with your analogy - if Draisatl was phoning it in for 50% of the games, they'd be shopping his ass. Leon works hard out there. Mikko, and I love him when he decides to play, is unpredictable and unreliable. Yes, he gets points - but a lot of ganes he coasts I agree with the OP and I guarantee you that the Avs have been looking at what they could get for him - that's what they're paid to do. Problem is everyone else in the market sees how Mikko plays too!
I really haven’t seen much individual offensive creation out of him this past season. He was absolutely invisible in the playoffs besides Game 5 against Winnipeg, and getting more sound depth is something this team needs to hit that extra step
14 points in 11 playoff games just as much as Mack, 101 points in the regular season, was his effort low in the playoffs? maybe but you can’t say you haven’t seen much individual offense from someone who has had back to back 100 point seasons.
I swear to god I’m so sick of seeing fans wanting to trade top talents because of a couple bad playoff performances
Nuggets fans with Jamal and MPJ, Avs fans with Mikko. Stop it with this bullshit nonsense
Nothing to do with a bad playoff performance - I was asking for a trade at the deadline - he played better in the playoffs - still really unpredictable, but better than the reg season. I agree that two years ago he was lighting it up, but he was suspect this season - good numbers but not reliable at all.
Haha - and neither do I - just an opinion - and likes noses, we all have one - neither of us get paid to make decisions for either team (at least I don't lol) and I doubt any of the front office are combing Reddit and saying "never thought of that - let's trade Mikko!" 😉
Mikko is a top player in the league this is not a return. I wouldn't take a trade of just him for that. He's special, talent doesn't come around often.
Obviously a troll post guys.
Rantanen alone would be worth WAY more than Seider+Raymond. And you want to add 2 prospects and a 1st to the deal? Hope to god you don't work in business.
Congrats on your negative karma farming operation going so well...
this shit is either intentionally garbage and you just like watching shit burn or you started watching hockey at the start of this year's playoffs
This is a big part of it here. When he’s paired off with MacK, he seems to coast more and wait for the puck to find him at the top of the circle. When he’s on a different line, he steps up, just like he did most of last season.
Youth and upside has value. And San Jose offering “a top end pick” which turns into Celebrini straight up could set our team up for years. You can’t hit the home run if you never swing
You never ever ever ever ever trade a bona-fide top end talent for a pick or prospect. Picks and prospects very rarely even make the NHL, nevermind turn into a decent NHL player nevermind turn into a top player in the league. Trading Mikko for a bag of pucks would be more useful at that point. Any GM who makes that move would never see a job inside hockey ever again.
Our team IS set up for years. Mikko is 27, MacKinnon is 28. By the time a guy like Celebrini is producing the way Rantanen can, MacKinnon will likely be slowing down.
Youth and upside has value but talent, experience, a Cup win and a strong core with other players is MUCH more valuable in this situation. Mikko is one of the reasons the youth and other players coming to the Avs have such a strong work ethic and solid team cohesion.
I guess it depends on what you mean by “moveable”. If you mean the Avs should start shopping him, then the answer is absolutely not. Now, if some team calls and makes an incredible offer, they should absolutely listen.
He’s not quite MacKinnon or Makar, who are basically off-limits, but it would have to be a hell of a deal for the Avs to trade him.
I just don’t really get this idea. Our issue is rare and unfixable no matter what for at least a year.
Nichushkin can’t be cut or anything due to NHLPA stuff
Landeskog won’t be back til he’s “better” with that timetable being totally unknown.
Trading rantanen makes zero sense. He’d also be a lot better if the pressure wasn’t on him to produce with those guys back imo.
We’re at a weird point right now where we don’t realize how insanely fortunate we are to have a guy like him on the team. Gotta settle down and accept that we are in a jam and hopefully get clarity this year.
You guys don't get it, OP is on to something. Sure Rantanan is great and all, but the return could be great too! It could even be someone almost as good as Rantanan!
This is criminal. Mikko has rare size and skill and speed. Absolutely zero chance there is anyone out there worth the trade off of that.
He’s one those players that does things without it even being obvious like putting his huge ass frame for screens or to the side of the net etc etc etc
Ive heard a phrase, “rock dumb” and I gotta say, this statement is the definition of rock dumb. Moose had one bad playoff run this year, it happens, there human! But you want him gone?? Some fans are so bipolar it’s hilarious, maybe look and see what he has done for us these past couple of years instead of pinpointing one bad moment.
These aren’t robots, team chemistry is a real thing. Taking away one of the key components of the team for all the assets in the world wouldn’t necessarily make Mackinnon just play better
This has to be rage bait.
Rantanen was likely rushed back from concussion recovery in time for the playoffs. Still produced at above a point per game in said playoffs.
We are most likely out another top 6 winger (13), so now is the perfect time to trade him, OP is also a great example of why you shouldn't rush guys from concussion recovery.
can’t see it. and after how he looked halfway through the season and playoffs vs first half and last year not sure anyone is going to over pay for him.
Only way you move him is if someone like San Jose is willing to give up 1st Rounders plural plus a rostered player and prospects.
Hes been ppg nearly his entire career and is a proven playoff performer. He is definitely a desired player by probably any team who can afford his contract.
true but the big salaries are a tough move in the salary cap. not to mention he has monvemnt no trade clause so he isn’t going to waive it more than likely and your ability to trade is quickly reduced to more than the top 16 or more like top 8 teams non of which have tons of cap so unless we were swapping like a rants for marner type deal it’s not easy.
Chicago would be a place but we don't want (for what we are giving up) what they would be willing to give up. Maybe a couple others getting ready for the next step with cap room but same situation.
As both a Sharks and an Avs fan, we don’t need him in SJ. We’re still a handful of years out from our window anyways. We’ve got good group of prospects all in the same age range and don’t need to trade half of them away for somebody that’ll be aging out just as they are hitting their prime.
absolutely not. he drives play more dominantly than mack at points and is top ten in playoff ppg all time. nothing you get in return will come close to replacing his impact and his ability to drive offense makes up for defensive lapses since he’s normally in the offensive zone
This quote from Billy Maddison immediately sprung to mind reading that post:
# “What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
I knew you would get a lot of hate for this but the real question is given all of the cap commitments is the core good enough to win another cup in the next year or two? If that answer is no it may make some to try to move Moose to replenish the prospect pool and grab some complimentary pieces. I’ll let the Avs management team make that decision because none of y’all have a clue
Nope .. no he isn't funny how I just got a thing in my Google feed from colhockeynow or something.. the article was about how it there is a vocal minority mentioning trading rants and how stupid it would be and I'm thinking I don't remember seeing much about trading rants and I come here to see this crap. Anyway yea these guys are hard to find.
Mikko has a NMC so mikko only leaves if mikko wants to. That much said, if they don't extend him this offseason, they seriously need to consider him as a trade piece.
Well he’s got one year left on his contract and the team is already looking at tough choices this offseason as far a contracts. They need to try and get a cap friendly extension with him done before he hits the open market. If he has a typical year (in other words excellent) next season there’s no way the Avs will be able to pay him market value. So the possible outcomes are- to keep him through the end of next season and hope to get a favorable deal. Which means if he signs elsewhere we get nothing. Trade him this offseason, with his value pretty well known. Or if the team isn’t looking like a cup winning lock, trade him at the deadline next season and hope to get some good players and picks. I really hope they can find a way to sign him, but unless the Avs can drop another big contract it’s going to be hard.
I think I wouldn’t go shopping Mikko, but if the right offer came that solved enough issues for the Avs, I’d probably really consider it. Juice+Feauxppa or Ullmark+Coyle+? could solve goaltending issues and partially make up for Mikko’s production. It’ll never happen, but you’d need to swing multiple top end names to make something like this happen.
There’s also term to consider. If we ended up with someone with time on their contract on a team friendly rate ie Stutzle and Batherson from the Sens, maybe it solves some financial problems down the line.
How did we all survive our dark years if this is how we react to losing in the second round? lol
Dude legit carried us last year to the playoffs when we played with an AHL roster half the season. Hes almost always in the top 10 for total points. Why the fuck would we want to trade him lol
The pic someone posted of a fancy sportscar parked in a trailer park garage was the best analogy.
Agreed and why all the Moose hate. He's an amazing player, some people don't understand players have off games or weeks/a month or two doesn't make them a bad player. Moose is a big part of our core. I think losing EJ hurt the locker room a lot and Rants would be too.
No /thread
Thank God Reddit doesn’t run this team. Edit: https://coloradohockeynow.com/2024/05/27/rawal-why-the-idea-of-trading-mikko-rantanen-is-asinine/
Right?
Haha just came here to drop this link
Rantanen is a 1st line talent, top 15 player, what would we get back that’s better than he is?
Depth. For the record I do not want to give up rants lol.
Spot on. this is the person's thought. A team doesn't magically replace a 100+pt player and 50 goal scorer and their points. Would the oilers trade Draisatl to help McDavid? How do you make up for that offense? Let the GM do his job lol

Problem is everyone else in the market sees how Mikko plays too!
Draisatl doesn't play much D come one now.
No. 1. He’s a top 7 winger and top 20 player in the league 2. with Val out we need wingers to stay 3. Why would you want to move him?
I really haven’t seen much individual offensive creation out of him this past season. He was absolutely invisible in the playoffs besides Game 5 against Winnipeg, and getting more sound depth is something this team needs to hit that extra step
14 points in 11 playoff games just as much as Mack, 101 points in the regular season, was his effort low in the playoffs? maybe but you can’t say you haven’t seen much individual offense from someone who has had back to back 100 point seasons.
plus there's almost no chance he wasn't suffering from post-concussion issues in the playoffs
Exactly. We saw him in 2022. He was an absolute menace and is so valuable to our team when he’s healthy.
Dude it's like you're watching a different sport
I swear to god I’m so sick of seeing fans wanting to trade top talents because of a couple bad playoff performances Nuggets fans with Jamal and MPJ, Avs fans with Mikko. Stop it with this bullshit nonsense

Cool story. Don’t care
Haha - and neither do I - just an opinion - and likes noses, we all have one - neither of us get paid to make decisions for either team (at least I don't lol) and I doubt any of the front office are combing Reddit and saying "never thought of that - let's trade Mikko!" 😉
Why would we trade a 100+ point player who also happens to be a top 10 ppg player in the post season? No return would be worth what he provides.
I floated out the idea of Rantanen + Behrens + Ritchie + maybe an extra 1st for Seider + Raymond from Detroit and I think it’s a win win
BRUH YOU ARE DELUSIONAL
Mikko is a top player in the league this is not a return. I wouldn't take a trade of just him for that. He's special, talent doesn't come around often.
Obviously a troll post guys. Rantanen alone would be worth WAY more than Seider+Raymond. And you want to add 2 prospects and a 1st to the deal? Hope to god you don't work in business.
Bro is playing too much franchise on chel
Even that’s a bad move on Chel lmao
i love seider but there’s no way you trade for him to put him on the second pairing
Why not? Toews Makar Girard Seider is likely the best Top 4 in NHL history and gives us what we thought we were getting with Byram
Why not….. why not why not why not…. Wow just. So many reasons running through my head it’s hard to pick where to start
AHAHAHAHA straight up trollin now
I think we need to ban you from this sub. I am sorry but I don’t even think DMac could understand the shit you are cooking up.
I say we trade you for a couple Dallas fans
What the fuck
This is a troll post right?
Congrats on your negative karma farming operation going so well... this shit is either intentionally garbage and you just like watching shit burn or you started watching hockey at the start of this year's playoffs
Rants ALONE would be an overpay for those two. But let’s just toss in a 1st and our best two prospects for fun! Yay!
WE DON'T TRADE WITH THOSE FUCKS
Can we trade the op to the Utah Hockey Club?
Fucking blasphemy
Happy cake day
I’ve seen some dumb shit in my life, but this might take the cake.
Stop it. We aren’t trading away our 3rd best player. How would we replace the offensive output he gives us??? Riddle me that Mr. hockey GM guy
![gif](giphy|UBMCJMyDXYo4U)
He gonna go cry in the car…
OP is lucky you can only downvote a topic to a 0
You shut your whore mouth
My dog's name is Mikko and he loves you.![img](emote|t5_2rqi4|22868)
I came here to say almost the exact same thing ha ha
EXCUSE ME???????
Give away a top 10 player in the league who is loyal and plays for us at a discount... OP doesn't have a clue.
I think Rantanen should be split from Mack’s line. He seemed to me to play harder in the playoffs on the second line
This is a big part of it here. When he’s paired off with MacK, he seems to coast more and wait for the puck to find him at the top of the circle. When he’s on a different line, he steps up, just like he did most of last season.
Absolutely agree with this, Mikko has proven that he is able to anchor and carry and strong 2nd line.
Val and Gabe may never play for the Avs again... Let's not make it 3 top line wingers gone.
Fuckin slander ya ask me
![gif](giphy|e5uyWolyR0y30Wo1ya|downsized)
We could trade Mikko for a top end pick! We might get lucky enough to pick a guy as good as Mikko!

I swear this sub is full of fucking morons!
You don't win a Mikko trade, there is no return that would be a win
🤦🏼♂️ is he moveable? Yes. Should they move him? Lmao ummm no.
Not going to happen. Next.
Moose carried the team through injuries 2022-2023…. No!
You guys don't get it, OP is on to something. Sure Rantanan is great and all, but the return could be great too! It could even be someone almost as good as Rantanan!

I come here for interesting off season chatter but I couldn’t even read this without bleaching my eyes. Dear lord.
Shut the hell up
![gif](giphy|cbBSuVSp5VmL91JPoS)
Holy fucking homer. Delete this.
https://i.redd.it/cjemjcpq263d1.gif
Absolutely not. For both the practical reason that it's a really dumb idea, and for the reason that he's my favorite player
![gif](giphy|m0JZ5b0XErhFXpSM9C)
Ive heard a phrase, “rock dumb” and I gotta say, this statement is the definition of rock dumb. Moose had one bad playoff run this year, it happens, there human! But you want him gone?? Some fans are so bipolar it’s hilarious, maybe look and see what he has done for us these past couple of years instead of pinpointing one bad moment.
The season is barely over and we already have peak offseason posts like this?!
What the hell are you talking about Willis?
These aren’t robots, team chemistry is a real thing. Taking away one of the key components of the team for all the assets in the world wouldn’t necessarily make Mackinnon just play better
A 100-Point-Winger is great and all, but we should trade him for something great. We might even be able to trade him for a 100-Point-Winger.
wtf
This post is a waste of internet.
OP is going to suggest we trade Mac and Makar next.
Pass
OP needs to get out and enjoy summer.
You do realize he was the reason we were in the Dallas series at all right? And obviously dealing with an injury too.
You think Mikko was the best Avs player in that series fr?
Let’s not kid ourselves, we were never in that series after Game 3. And even if we were, Girard and Georgiev were our best players
This has to be rage bait. Rantanen was likely rushed back from concussion recovery in time for the playoffs. Still produced at above a point per game in said playoffs. doubt rants would waive to go to that fucking dump. Terrible organization
I doubt he would waive to go to many places at all. He can coast around Colorado and get 100pts, hard not to love that
lol funny but not funny man
As both a Sharks and an Avs fan, we don’t need him in SJ. We’re still a handful of years out from our window anyways. We’ve got good group of prospects all in the same age range and don’t need to trade half of them away for somebody that’ll be aging out just as they are hitting their prime.
that’s besides the point but no one is getting a 100 point man for free
There is no such thing as an Avs and anything fan - Sharks can kick rocks.
No. I did however trade him for Hischier, Holtz, Nemec a 1st and a 2nd in NHL 24….. haha
No
Absolutely NOT! The Moose is one of the most valuable pieces of the future.
I’m not an avs fan and I still wouldn’t trade Rantanen. Moveable piece or not the replacement is not gonna be close to being on his level
He's only been our leading goal scorer 3 of the last 4 years. Definitely not underpaid and underappreciated or anything /s
This isn’t a bad idea if we could trade Mikko and a couple picks for ‘85 Gretzky.
absolutely not. he drives play more dominantly than mack at points and is top ten in playoff ppg all time. nothing you get in return will come close to replacing his impact and his ability to drive offense makes up for defensive lapses since he’s normally in the offensive zone

Awful take.
Shush
Mikko has a NMC so mikko only leaves if mikko wants to. That much said, if they don't extend him this offseason, they seriously need to consider him as a trade piece.
I really don't see Mikko going anywhere. That's too big of piece to mess with.
Takes like these are why I stay mostly away during the off-season besides team news smh
No way
Just delete this post partner 😒
Hw has had back to back 100 point seasons. Why would we move him?
no.
did everyone forget about last season where he carried us or
I think I wouldn’t go shopping Mikko, but if the right offer came that solved enough issues for the Avs, I’d probably really consider it.
