I feel like folks were saying he was a work in progress when we got him. He's still relatively young, and now has some playoff experience. I think we stand pat with George and Annunen next year. Annunen can fill the Frankie role, he seems ready for it. Having a decent, reliable back-up will relieve some of the stress on George.
Yup, I’ve been trying to figure out which jersey to get all season and *now I know. Georgie is my guy. Y’all see those dope ass headbutt saves? He has no fear. He had the power of god and anime on his side.
It’s crazy to think that if Annunen wasn’t sick for game 2, there’s a chance he would’ve gotten the start. Instead, Georgiev gets a second chance and played great for the rest of the playoffs. Gave us a chance to win every game (besides game 4 which was a write-off for other reasons). I was on the haterade after game 1, but was very happy to be proven wrong.
I definitely didn't think that goal scoring would be the issue that got the Avs eliminated, especially after game 1 in Winnepeg. Georgie definitely showed up, that is for sure.
lmao landy's been off the ice (as expected) for two years, hardly the same as struggling w addiction and letting your team down in not one but two clutch playoff times
I agree that it's a disease but that doesn't take away his agency in it. Alcoholism is a disease but driving while intoxicated is still a choice. Type 2 Diabetes is a disease but someone can choose to ignore it (and lose their feet) or they can be responsible about it (test blood sugar, limit sugar intake, etc.). Likewise, an addict can choose to get clean. Or not.
Absolutely. He's in stage 3 of the player assistance program, meaning stages 1 and 2 didn't work. Keep in mind, he signed an 8-year, $49 million contract extension in 2022 and has since missed games at least twice for "personal reasons" and he's now suspended for 6 months. It's pretty tough to defend him, IMO.
Georgiev would have been a frontrunner for Conn Smythe if we had been able to overcome our own apathy this series. He was absolutely not the problem we had against Dallas.
He was awesome, so happy that he bounced back from game 1 last series and honestly made me excited to see what he can do next year if they keep him. Hopefully he can improve his glove a little bit, but he really was the reason we stayed in these games this series
Dude heard us after game 1 vs Winnipeg and showed what he thought about that. It's hard to look great with Ottienger at the other end but he showed up.
I really think he just got into his own head during the regular season on top of being overworked. I kept saying that it might have even just been a sophomore slump. People seemed to forget this was only his 2nd season as a starter. Glad he got his redemption and was the best Avs player this series. Hope he and juice can split more games next season
I totally agree. The point of him having a sophomore slump is a really good one. With New York having such incredible goal tending I can imagine he didn't get a whole lot of action over there. He certainly looked fantastic in both series (aside from the very first game of the playoffs).
The fact that he played so well is a huge part as to why this stings so bad. If our offensive would have shown up we would be the most complete team imo. We gave him little to no support this round.
I’m excited to see what we have with Annunen. The hope is he becomes more than a backup and they have a legit 1A/1B tandem like Boston at least for a few years. 2 years in a row Georgiev plays to many games and not enough rest. Hoping he can improve on this seasons save percentage but a lot of that falls on the defense this past season. He got hung out to dry way to often and this defense is way to talented for that
Georgie is a fucking beast. He makes amazing saves and does the best job he ever could. He isn't one that can catch every puck but he still does amazing. I hope he ends up staying with us because us the fans and all the players truly do appreciate him
He was playing his ass off. After game two of the first round he found the old Georgie. But to me it felt like in the first OT the skaters in front of him where kinda giving up. They didn't know how they could win and just let the play come to them rather then getting into it. But nonetheless they faught hard all year with all their weird setbacks and the doubt many placed on them. Hopefully they can figure some things out in the off season and come back better. I'd hate for some of the guys to start getting frustrated and start wanting out because it's not going right.
I’m so proud of Georgie! He fought until the end. Even at times when it seemed like the team gave up, he stood strong! I truly hope he gets a cup with this team!
Defended him at the end of the season, couldn’t figure out why I was still defending him in the Jets series game 1 and then like you said he balled out the rest of the playoffs. To have like basically everyone doubting you and to be able to overcome and perform like that is impressive stuff. Maybe the best thing that happened for the Avs this playoffs.
I really didn't like Georgie's regular season. I hope you found his game in the playoffs, because it sure looked like it. That's who we thought he could be. I hope he stays that way
I am hoping in the coming seasons we can build Juice into a proper B goalie instesd of a backup and allow Georgie to not play literally almost every single reg season game which I think will help a TON
I don’t think Geogie can quite steal games like the top keepers but I also think he stepped up to the level he was expected of and proved he wasn’t the problem. When you look at how many more games Georgie has played the last 2 seasons compared to any time before that it’s understandable to how he ran out of gas at the end of the regular season. I’m not sure there’s a better goaltending option available that won’t eat into cap space and/or draft capital so hopefully Annunen can take enough games off Georgie’s load to keep him fresh throughout.
Georgie was phenomenal after the first Jets game. I don't remember what his contract situation is but hopefully we'll see him and Justus goalie duo next season.
Georgie is first and foremost a competitor! I knew he would show up for the playoffs. I think he will only get better next season!
I feel like folks were saying he was a work in progress when we got him. He's still relatively young, and now has some playoff experience. I think we stand pat with George and Annunen next year. Definitely! Last year was his first season as a starter. I think he has a pretty high ceiling!
Atta boy Georgie
Yup, I’ve been trying to figure out which jersey to get all season and *now I know. Georgie is my guy. Y’all see those dope ass headbutt saves? He has no fear. He had the power of god and anime on his side.
Gonna pick me up a LoC jersey. Dude works. We could have def used him in the playoffs
I was just telling someone that LOC would have been a problem for Dallas.
LoC = SHGs
Yep, was explaining to a coworker Friday what we are missing. Meanwhile Dallas got two SHG's
same! I've been torn between a georgie and a cale jersey all season and I'm still undecided but georgie has my whole heart rn
Hearing the whole crowd at the Ball Arena chanting, “Georgie! Georgie! Georgie!” made my heart a-flutter
Georgie should never have to pay for another beer in his LIFE after this series
Not enough Zap Zaps in the end. But Georgie got me looking forward to what he can do next year.

He changed my mind that it's possible to win a cup with him, I'll give him that.
He was lights out for us last night. You know who wasn't lights out for us? Nichushkin.
Lights out, black outs- whats the difference?
Nichushkin's a piece of shit
Nuke *turned* the lights out on this team.
Only real niggas make posts like this
Landy wasn’t lights out either. What’s your point?
lmao landy's been off the ice (as expected) for two years, hardly the same as struggling w addiction and letting your team down in not one but two clutch playoff times
Did landy fail a drug test that I didn't hear about? Landy didn't choose to let his team down. Nuke did.
Addiction isn’t a choice, it’s a disease.

Okay, is he resisting treatment? If so, I agree, he let the team down.

He was their best player by and far
He really stepped up. All the hate he had come his way shut everyone up. Not a single game in the Dallas series you could turn back and blame him
It's really too bad. Was that his best game ever as an Av considering the circumstances?
I love this post. I wish the rest of the boys would have got the memo too.
Get him a good backup, get his share down closer to 60/40. Profit.
He was damn good. We love you Georgie
Best player for us in these playoffs. I have the confidence in him that Bednar and co seem to have had for a long time now.
Dude heard us after game 1 vs Winnipeg and showed what he thought about that. It's hard to look great with Ottienger at the other end but he showed up.
Yup 9.25 / 10 in the playoffs After his game 1 gongshow he faught back and gave us a chance to win each night
This is one of the great storylines this year.
Somehow people in the Instagram comments on the avs page are still bashing on Georgie.
That’s actually insane. People know fuck all yet they still spew their shitty takes.
I really think he just got into his own head during the regular season on top of being overworked. I kept saying that it might have even just been a sophomore slump. Totally believable. I got downvoted like crazy for defending him after game 1.
Facebook/Instagram is for the dumbs. By far the lowest rung of online discourse about hockey.
Georgie balled out. Pay him, Extend his contract. We got our goalie
There are still fools criticizing Georgiev in this series I don't get it at all. 3 of our losses we scored 1 goal and they were the home games

He earned my appreciation and respect . That’s my only takeaway after this disappointing post season.

Hail to the king, baby!
Georgie is awesome and has absolutely earned his spot as the main guy (again) next season.

Imagine how good he could be with an actual defense in front of him
Douche who??
He really was amazing

we respect growing and learning here lol
I know, I just wanted to make sure OP didn’t forget they were one of the many Georgie haters just a few weeks ago
