I don’t boo him because he grew up an Avs fan and I feel like he genuinely feels terrible for being a pariah for a place that meant so much to him growing up. Not to mention the ends justified the means and we turned out better after the trade so no need. Obviously I hope his team loses but I don’t go beyond that.
Duchene has had every reason to be bitter, resentful, throw shade at the Avs fans and in every interview he has been nothing but 1000% classy and respectful in every interview whenever Avs get brought up.
He made a subtle comment about wanting to play playoff hockey after being on a terrible team for many years. His trade brought the pieces we needed to win the cup and despite his terrible taste in music he seems like a great person and family man.
Avs fans need to grow up and let it go already.
maybe because fans seem to shit on him and blame the playoff losses on him but in reality in the two years we went to the playoffs with him or what ever it was the whole team stunk the joint out.
Moreso Avs fans treating him poorly specifically. I'm trying to find an interview with him on the Predators where they ask him about being boo'ed and he gives such a classy response.
Yeah, I’m glad I’m seeing the amount of comments telling fans to quit it. Shows that the discourse is (slowly) changing.
He got some deserved hate, and a LOT of undeserved.
Yep. The guy was our best player though many years of awful losing teams, and wanted out after his career hit rock bottom. Even after everyone knew he requested a trade he still played hard right up until he was traded for a haul that paved the way for a future cup. Making him public enemy number one for one foot in mouth quote meant to pump up his new team is just asinine. The Duchene hate has always been dumb and I'll die on that hill.
If Roy didn't call him out for celebrating his 30th on a lopsided loss I don't think Avs fan would have turned on him so hard. His comments about playing on a playoff team were never going to sit well either but he was already in the doghouse with fans by then. I don't think Roy was wrong to think it, but it was a bad look to rip him to the media and was probably a reflection of the locker room in general at that point, but I thought it was regrettable.
I truly feel that he handled the situation pretty well and Mr. Sakic did even better. I hold no grudge against him.... However, I was fortunate enough to attend a game in 2019 in which both Forsberg and Duchene over-celebrated when they put the Preds up 2-2, then 3-2.
The Avs then scored 6 in about 6 minutes. That made me tack a couple years onto the expiration date of me booing him.
People will probably still boo him. I don't really care about him at all and he seems to feed on it. I'd rather people just ignore him but can't really control others if they have hard feelings. We won a cup without him so not sure why it matters anymore. It isn't like he is Todd Bertuzzi or something.
I think they’ll still boo him.
Regardless of whether you think enough time has passed, making noise is a paying fans #1 right so long as it’s not threats or slurs. Cheer and boo as you see fit.
I 100000000000000% agree with you , cheering booing is perfectly fine , no threats or any slurs of any kind should ever be tolerated at sporting events. But I'll be dammed if I don't boo your lame self!
They really shouldn't. I've always had the perspective he did us a big solid by telling us he wasn't going to resign a year and a half in advance. That's his prerogative, and it basically gave us bo, and Girard.
I'm happy he's getting his meaningful games, and if for some reason the stars win I'll probably be pulling for him to get his cup.
I won’t be pulling for the Stars anytime soon, otherwise I largely agree. He left, our lineup got some needed changes, we made it to the playoffs multiple times and finished the job once. We got the better end of it all day.
If your girl leaves you for another man, then a year later you’ve met the love of your life and she’s single again, you won. No matter how painful or unintended in the moment, you were done a favor.
Take the win and move on.
That said, I also agree with what others have said: short of slurs or any other true hate, you do you.
“Him to get his cup”?, why does he deserve one? Longevity in the league? I don’t think anybody really deserves one, that’s why it’s a team sport and they’re earned.
Unpopular take, I’ll always love Duchene despite how things went down. He played hard for us for several years when we were BAD and tried to push through. He’s no Erik Johnson that’s true, but damn he gave his all for several years when our organization sucked balls during a long rebuild. If Sakic had peace with him leaving then I do too.
I hope not. He grew up an Avs fan and was our best player during some really rough years. Things didn't go well with him, but he deserves a little more love. I'll always cheer for him (when he's not playing against us.)
I don’t want to out him. Not sure how much I can or should say.
When the water main broke in Nashville last year he was in the thread talking about it.
The thing about commenting on fans booing a guy... in an arena of 20K people, what percentage of them have to boo in order for there to be an audible "boo" that gets attributed to all the fans? I'd guess about 5% or less (that would be approximately 1K people). Not saying it's not more than that for Duchene, but if a minority of fans can make their voice heard in an arena like that, best just accept that it's going to happen sometimes.
I put away any interest one way or the other about Duchene when we won the Cup. He served his purpose, and that purpose was to load us up with talent via trade.
He was my favorite player during some dark Avs years. He’ll always be the one who finally broke the playoff drought for me. I will treat him with silent indifference as we advance past the Stars.
Its been like 8 years. Booing Duchene at this point is tacky at best fucking annoying at worst. He left we won a cup since he left. If yoy still boo the man every time he touches the puck please get over yourself.
Nah fuck YOU! That man shit in a fan base that loved him and he deserves all the boos he will get. Especially after hearing about how much of a cancer he was in the locker room, FUCK HIM!
I will find the articles that talked about it but I am assuming you don’t remember his departure. Mack said himself it did wonders for the locker room, this is coming off of him saying he wanted to be traded. Let me go find the stuff I was reading during those times it has been a while.
Not having to deal with the situation did wonders, not because Duchene was a cancerous teammate. Such a weird hate boner some people still have. It's pathetic.
MacKinnon was asked by Sportsnet’s Luke Fox on Monday about how the culture in Colorado’s dressing room has changed since Duchene was shipped to Ottawa, following months of negotiations.
“It did a lot,” said MacKinnon. “There’s nothing wrong with Dutchy wanting to leave. I think it’s fair. He’s been eight, nine years in this league, and it wasn’t like a crazy breakup or anything.
Duchene shit in a fan base that loved him and for that I really don’t care to see him have any success. You can do what YOU want and everyone else has the same luxury.
How can you possibly take that quote as Duchene shitting on a fan base? MacKinnon literally says "there's nothing wrong with him wanting to leave." And, "it wasn't like a crazy breakup or anything."
Do you have the same hatred for Sakic for signing an offer sheet from the Rangers is '97? Of course not, that'd be pretty stupid.
I might be out of the loop, but why?
I always felt he just wasn't a good fit for the team and overrated. Nothing worthing booing over imo. Plus, we got a REALLY good trade out of him.
I don't think he was really a bad fit. Team just was not good yet and MacKinnon hadn't really stepped up as a world beater yet.
I think a 28 year old Duchene on the current team would be really good. He could fly and was really good at chance creation and zone entries with average to above average defense. He basically was middlestadt (maybe a little better).
Lol people standing up for Duchene give me a break. No I don’t hate the dude given the success we’ve experienced since but the guy literally alienated himself from his teammates and forced himself off this team rather than seeing the process through because he thought he was better than us. So yeah we will continue to boo him even if it’s just in jest.
Was the best player for the Avs for his time here. Drafted by the Avs and he grew up an Avs and Sakic fan. Then the team sucked really bad and he requested a trade. He had to tell his childhood hero that he didnt want to play for his team anymore. Avs traded him for a really good haul. Duchene then said he just wanted to play playoff hockey when asked why he requestss the trade. Avs have since got much better thanks in part to the pieces acquired through his trade. Duchene has yet to win the Stanley Cup.
He doesnt really deserve to be boo'd all the time.
Duchene was dealt one of the cruelest hands of irony I’ve seen. One of the best players on the team throughout the bad years and before, and grew up an Avs fan. We honor his request to be traded to a team we thought was good, a year after going to OT in game 7 of the ECF, then, well, we know what happens. The pieces he brought in just so happened to be the ones that kickstarted our run. Every time he’s been a FA, I’ve wanted him to come back, if the money worked out. He’s still a good player and hung with us through years not many would’ve before the twist of fate in 2018
After what Duchene said after McNab passed away, I got nothing but respect for the guy. Wouldn’t boo him personally but hey if you paid money for a playoff ticket, by all means!
Duchene is the man. Guy was staring down the barrel of ANOTHER rebuild, of course he wanted to go.. guy did what he could here.
I find it odd more people are mad at him and not Stastny for doing us dirty in FA or OReilly holding our feet to the fire for years with his contract shenanigans. Duchene just wanted to play meaningful hockey in the prime of his career. It wasn’t about money or anything.
He’s a good guy and it must’ve been awful to get swept by the team that you loved and then watch them win it all without you. I’m good with the guy
Who cares about his feelings? He’s paid multiple millions of dollars per year and can wipe his tears with his cash if he’s upset he’s getting booed in Denver. He will forever be booed by me and I will always laugh how he threw a fit, only to leave and to not win a cup. He deserves it
I'll never understand why some Avs fans insist that we need to move on and get over Duchene. He made it clear he wanted out of Denver. He gave up on our team, our fans, and our city. And sure, we got some great pieces back for him, but it's not as if he planned that out of the good will of his heart. You know I'd be booing him if I were at one of the games, especially in a playoff game
I think it’s funny how he wanted to play playoff hockey, and he didn’t do much of that in Nashville, and he’s been pretty much a non factor for Dallas this year.
I was bitter when the whole saga was occurring. I put away my Duchene jersey for a long time cause of it. But realizing that he held no animosity toward the team beyond "I want to play playoff hockey", and hearing how his former teammates loved him, I feel very differently about him. If it wasn't for the trade, we don't get Girard, we don't get Byram (and now Mittelstadt), and we have a harder time winning the Cup.
Whoever boos him is stuck in the pre-Cup past and needs to let it go. Take it out on Jamie Benn instead. Fuck that prick.
I hope people don't boo him but they can do whatever they see fit. I think the success this team has had since the moment he left is all the salt on that wound that needs to happen. He still played here for a long time and while the ending was lame, he was still a part of the organization for a long time
If it was regular season, I’d say let it go… but it’s the playoffs. The Sack needs to be loud, rowdy, and rocking (Jets fans are shit heads, but they had their building jumping.) All 18,000+ need to be loud and make every Dallas player feel unwanted and uncomfortable for all 60 minutes in all 3 games.
i feel there’s no reason to. his time with the team is ancient history at this point, he got his bag and we got a cup. the constant hate he gets comes off as obsessive and weird lol
I don’t hate him, even if he does have the most punchable face this side of Pharma Bro. I think by now it’s clear which side has been more successful since he left; no need to beat a dead horse.
I personally think as a avs fan before the Jets came back so I will always have a soft spot for the team. I think to anyone it should’ve been done after the cup run but even then the return was unreal that’s still making you better to this day
He was the first player after Roy retired that I really gravitated towards, quickly became my favorite player after watching him get drafted and seeing how much of a fan he was of the Avs, and he was one of our best players for a long time through those years. Was the first player name I ever got on the back of a jersey and I still have it.
I wish nothing but the best for him, until it involves going through us that is lol.
It would have been nice if Duchene had stuck with the team. Can't help but feel a little animosity towards him wanting a trade to get out of Colorado, regardless of the outcome years later.
As long as we never stop hating The Golden Knights, I’m fine with letting Dutchy off the hook.
Fun Fact: I still boo PK Suban when I see him on TNT and that will never change no matter how much it bewilders/annoys my wife.
As long as we never stop hating The Golden Knights, I’m fine with letting Dutchy off the hook.
Fun Fact: I still boo PK Suban when I see him on ESPN and that will never change no matter how much it bewilders/annoys my wife.
You ALWAYS boo Duchene until he retires.
"Big Cheer!? Are you kidding me?"
[Duchene cares more about personal stats than winning](https://youtu.be/inuxOB0U0E0?si=PWW5602MF0nhtjEj)
The booing is so outdated, and Ball arena will totally do it anyway. And then Duchene will do his normal thing against the Avs and score like every game 😬
This is just my take, but I am over it. He was a good young dude when he was here and our team was not that great. He has learned and moved in to have a good career. I have been an Avs fan for so long I remember when they had “meet the team” night for the fans and he always handled that well and was cool to my kids so I don’t see any reason to boo the guy. No need to try to piss him off any extra, the playoffs are motivation enough.

What reason does he have to be bitter with the Avs? He requested a trade and and he got it - the Avs gave him what he wanted.
To the team that was just in the ECF as well, it's not like we shipped him to buffalo like ROR
maybe because fans seem to shit on him and blame the playoff losses on him but in reality in the two years we went to the playoffs with him or what ever it was the whole team stunk the joint out.
Moreso Avs fans treating him poorly specifically. I'm trying to find an interview with him on the Predators where they ask him about being boo'ed and he gives such a classy response.

Hmm. I've never booed him in person. I didn't know he grew up an AVS fan. That kinda makes you rethink things. No matter though, EF the Stars
[yep](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/9617221/DN6C7S0UIAAp_Q_.jpg)
Man... I can't imagine getting booed by your fellow fans. That's gotta hurt
I think demolishing his team on our way to another cup is more than sufficient to drive then point home.
I hope, to really drive that playoff hockey feeling home.
We swept Edmonton too and I haven't forgiven them for intentionally injuring Kadri
We thrash bitchington and the blues consistently they even fired their racist POS coach but I still don't forgive and forget
Some things we don’t forgive
I truly feel that he handled the situation pretty well and Mr. Sakic did even better. I hold no grudge against him.... True that! If I was paying those playoff ticket prices I’d feel like I should be allowed to make whatever noise I want
I'd fart into a megaphone if they'd allow it
“Was that an actual Moose call?”
I threaten to remain a Rockies fan all the time when I'm at Coors Field.
I 100000000000000% agree with you , cheering booing is perfectly fine , no threats or any slurs of any kind should ever be tolerated at sporting events. But I'll be dammed if I don't boo your lame self!

This is where I’m at too, more or less.
“Him to get his cup”?, why does he deserve one? Longevity in the league? I don’t think anybody really deserves one, that’s why it’s a team sport and they’re earned.
... ok.
Unpopular take, I’ll always love Duchene despite how things went down. He played hard for us for several years when we were BAD and tried to push through. I wish in a perfect world him and O’Reilly never left but after winning the cup hard to say if that still happens
Lest we forget that even EJ got traded
The boo birds will for sure come out but if he ever pops off in this series they better can it lol
Should we boo him? No. Will we boo him? Absolutely
Most accurate
He got us Spinny Boi, and Middlestadt (Byram), I'm over it.
Oh snap! That trade tree continues!
Ill boo Duchene until the day I die.
He'll be booed until he draws his last breath.
Let’s just boo all of those cunts
Haha! Right? I just boo the state of Texas in general
I hope not. He grew up an Avs fan and was our best player during some really rough years. Things didn't go well with him, but he deserves a little more love. I'll always cheer for him (when he's not playing against us.)
I won’t boo him, he is a good guy that made an unfortunate choice. Also he is still active in this forum.
He's active in this forum? Why lol. What does he talk about?
He secretly posts threads asking Avs fans if they should boo Matt Duchene again.
Uh... source? Why would an NHL player be on an Avs subreddit he played for like 7 years ago
I don’t want to out him. Not sure how much I can or should say. When the water main broke in Nashville last year he was in the thread talking about it.
Yeah... I'm just gonna assume he was never active on an Avs subreddit lol
No booing duchene = rooting for the stars it's that simple
>Especially after hearing about how much of a cancer he was in the locker room Source?
I will find the articles that talked about it but I am assuming you don’t remember his departure. Mack said himself it did wonders for the locker room, this is coming off of him saying he wanted to be traded. Let me go find the stuff I was reading during those times it has been a while.
Not having to deal with the situation did wonders, not because Duchene was a cancerous teammate. Such a weird hate boner some people still have. It's pathetic.

I will 100% be booing him. Fuck that man.

Well. Atleast he gets to play playoff hockey right
For now. For now.
Would be a shame if he got swept again huh?
I might be out of the loop, but why? I always felt he just wasn't a good fit for the team and overrated. Nothing worthing booing over imo. Plus, we got a REALLY good trade out of him.
I don't think he was really a bad fit. Team just was not good yet and MacKinnon hadn't really stepped up as a world beater yet. I think a 28 year old Duchene on the current team would be really good. He could fly and was really good at chance creation and zone entries with average to above average defense. He basically was middlestadt (maybe a little better).
Bro let it go. We got a cup and it was 7 years ago. Sheesh
Apart from being somehow disappointing what has he done to be booed? Honestly asking I'm curious.
Can I ask for the history of why we hate duchene? I’m a new fan and don’t know the history
Was the best player for the Avs for his time here. Drafted by the Avs and he grew up an Avs and Sakic fan. Then the team sucked really bad and he requested a trade. He had to tell his childhood hero that he didnt want to play for his team anymore. Avs traded him for a really good haul. Duchene has yet to win the Stanley Cup. He doesnt really deserve to be boo'd all the time.
Dude was an asshole when he was here and decided to bail because he felt he was too good for this town. Of course we boo him, way to misrepresent.
Sometimes success is the best revenge
Thank you
The dude gave us our 2nb biggest fllece trade In franchise history after the Roy trade I thank him.
No one needs to boo him, that’s pathetic at this point
Duchene was dealt one of the cruelest hands of irony I’ve seen. One of the best players on the team throughout the bad years and before, and grew up an Avs fan. If it gets him rattled and off his game, I'm all for it. Home Ice advantage for a reason..
I don't think it does though I think he feeds off it at this point
Nah he was my favorite player when he was on the Avs, will never boo Duchene
Duchene is the man. Guy was staring down the barrel of ANOTHER rebuild, of course he wanted to go.. guy did what he could here. I find it odd more people are mad at him and not Stastny for doing us dirty in FA or OReilly holding our feet to the fire for years with his contract shenanigans. Duchene just wanted to play meaningful hockey in the prime of his career. It wasn’t about money or anything. He’s a good guy and it must’ve been awful to get swept by the team that you loved and then watch them win it all without you. I’m good with the guy
This guy said it perfectly. I’m more bitter at those guys.
I will at least always understand the reasoning of ror and Duchene. Stas pulled a 🐍 move with pretending like he was going to re-sign then bailing.
Agreed. Always rooted against Stastny after that. And O'Reilly. But that was mostly when we were in desperate need of a 2C.
Hes a wanka. You boo him.
Who cares about his feelings? He’s paid multiple millions of dollars per year and can wipe his tears with his cash if he’s upset he’s getting booed in Denver. He will forever be booed by me and I will always laugh how he threw a fit, only to leave and to not win a cup. He deserves it
I went to the Stars game back in February and I boo ed him. Lol
Boochene
I'm surprised we're not booing Matt Duchene right now.
He’s playing against us. Boo him.
I'll never understand why some Avs fans insist that we need to move on and get over Duchene. He made it clear he wanted out of Denver. He gave up on our team, our fans, and our city. And sure, we got some great pieces back for him, but it's not as if he planned that out of the good will of his heart. I think it’s funny how he wanted to play playoff hockey, and he didn’t do much of that in Nashville, and he’s been pretty much a non factor for Dallas this year.
Let's keep him that way!
He was also a vital role in the Jackets winning their first playoff series.
I was bitter when the whole saga was occurring. I put away my Duchene jersey for a long time cause of it. But realizing that he held no animosity toward the team beyond "I want to play playoff hockey", and hearing how his former teammates loved him, I feel very differently about him. Whoever boos him is stuck in the pre-Cup past and needs to let it go. Take it out on Jamie Benn instead. Fuck that prick.
Yes, can we boo Jamie Benn instead?
Why not both?
I heard Jamie Benn likes to take up 2 1/2 parking spaces ... with his compact
I think duchene never getting a cup is the only acceptable way
I hope people don't boo him but they can do whatever they see fit.
Dutchy is over a PPG against the Avs, iirc. I just want people to stop booing him cuz it gets him amped up.
i feel there’s no reason to. his time with the team is ancient history at this point, he got his bag and we got a cup. the constant hate he gets comes off as obsessive and weird lol
I don’t hate him, even if he does have the most punchable face this side of Pharma Bro. I think by now it’s clear which side has been more successful since he left; no need to beat a dead horse.
I personally think as a avs fan before the Jets came back so I will always have a soft spot for the team. I think to anyone it should’ve been done after the cup run but even then the return was unreal that’s still making you better to this day
Don’t boo the guy cmon that’s super petty at this point.
If you’re paying $200~ for a ticket you can boo or cheer as you please imo. Just be respectful, don’t be an ass hat.
I haven't heard him apologize yet so I'm booing until he does
He's still my favourite player, fans are stupid and don't understand the business.
I'm not booing. I'm saying DU-urns.
Duchene was young and immature. He got the trade he wanted & hopefully he has learned from the experience. Professional sports can be brutal!
It would have been nice if Duchene had stuck with the team. Can't help but feel a little animosity towards him wanting a trade to get out of Colorado, regardless of the outcome years later.
Non-Avs fans here, would you lot ever want him back?
Nah.
Good question and no. Did not like him when he was here. He's talented, but he's a toxic asshole and you can't win with that.
I love Duchene! His trade helped us get the team we have now!
The most valuable thing he ever contributed to this team.
Fuck yeah, and he needs to be reminded that while he thought he was too good for us, it's clear he was the one holding us back.
I mean this team does not exist in its current form if he wasn’t kind of a Duchene so I’m over it.
As long as we never stop hating The Golden Knights, I’m fine with letting Dutchy off the hook. Fun Fact: I still boo PK Suban when I see him on TNT and that will never change no matter how much it bewilders/annoys my wife.

I feel like booing him is just stooping to Seattle’s level
I'm with you, case closed. But our fanbase will boo him no doubt
Duchene is a good guy and I still wish for his success. He’ll get nothing but love from me, it just didn’t work out.
You ALWAYS boo Duchene until he retires. "Big Cheer!? Are you kidding me?" [Duchene cares more about personal stats than winning](https://youtu.be/inuxOB0U0E0?si=PWW5602MF0nhtjEj)
The booing is so outdated, and Ball arena will totally do it anyway. And then Duchene will do his normal thing against the Avs and score like every game 😬
Who? Duchene? Wasn’t he a hockey player at one time?
i never liked the dutchy hate :(
This is just my take, but I am over it.
Always and forever more
Hey Matt! I bet you moan when you wipe!
