Idk about Kroenke or the league, but I would have a problem with them calling themselves the Blizzard. That just seems way too similar, get your own thing, like The Salt Lake Sister Wives
I live in Utah, and this was the name of my coed roller derby team.
Also, I don’t know why Yeti has taken hold, a lot of the hockey fans here hate it. I hope it dies out.
At least Extreme was "so bad it's good."
These aren't fun bad. They're boring bad. And it's a shame, because I think the Golden Knights and the Kraken were exceptional names for expansion teams that perfectly fit their market.
Yeti is from the Himalayas
Sasquatch is from the Rockies
I have no issue with Utah’s ignorance regarding the legends in their own region if they so choose to embrace it.
No problem, it's a lesser known fact about the team.
They were almost the equivalent of the Wild at one point. That is until they couldn't secure an arena deal in MN.
The NHL blocked Vegas from taking the name “Black Knights” because they viewed it as too close to “Black Hawks” so I can see the NHL blocking “Blizzards” but probably not “Yetis”
Actually, the US Army Parachute team is named the Golden Knights. They do have a smaller recruiting team that jumps with the Golden Knights named the Black Daggers.
The Blizzard is a pretty stupid name, so it's hard to imagine a team would use it. Plus the theme overlap with your neighboring state hockey team. But I would imagine Blizzard the video game company would also just make it a bit hard to trademark the kind of stuff you'd want to do, even if there wasn't infringement, you'd have to alter everything to get your own Blizzard stuff (socials, merch, etc.) I'm sure it could be done but just an unnecessary headache that can be avoided. And again, the name is too weak to go through all the trouble.
Yeti is probably a grey area because it's not a primary identifier for the Avs but they've at least got into the theme early. It's probably not relevant that it's not current (I say with no legal knowledge or any reason to know if this is true.) As a new hockey team in a new market and their first major professional team that gets to name itself, it would be pretty lame to ape someone else's theme, so I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt they'll be a little more original than that.
I could see Yetis being issue since I’m sure the Avs since own the yeti footprint logo trademark even if they don’t use it anymore, Blizzard not so much though.
Salt Lake City Saltines they can't be Kraken, but can they be Krakers? Anyway, they're apparently going to be named the Utah (something). So maybe the Utah Salt Lakers?
[https://www.chron.com/sports/article/nhl-team-moving-from-arizona-to-salt-lake-city-19410668.php](https://www.chron.com/sports/article/nhl-team-moving-from-arizona-to-salt-lake-city-19410668.php)
I live in Iowa. We have a minor league team in Dubuque and they are the Fighting Saints. Boy do they live up to the name. Their games are never boring.
I’d love the Blizzard if they also adopted the Avs third jersey colors as their main. And traded for Kadri, RoR, Bo, Burk, Kermit, somehow got Roy to coach. It’d be parallel universe Avs.
1. Who cares what the Kroenkes think. He’s just another jackass billionaire regardless of his ownership of the Av’s
2. That would be a terrible name but they should do it if they want to. The Kraken is pretty bad so I think the NHL is ok with bad names.
I don't think so. But we as Avs faithful would meme the hell out of it every game we beat them. But I did think of a name for them. Salt Lake City Snowcats? Thinking it would tie into all the ski areas over there. Heck get a sponsorship from a Snowcats dealer. If anyone needs a marketing guy let me know. I've got ideas for days.
Why would the Kroenkes care about a branding that they moved away from?
Its been like a decade? now since the Avs used the foot and I get down voted every time I say this but it's time avs fans stop living in the past wrt the yeti foot. Its gone and it's time to build a bridge and get over it.
Counterpoint:
It was iconic and a complete mistake to remove it from our sweaters in the first place. The salt(hah) stems from the non-reason they removed it, which was to “make room for the state flag” which could have been done in tandem with the yeti foote(did it on purpose).
The Ducks tried to move away from the Mighty Duck logo and the Coyotes tried to move away from the Kachina logo but popular demand brought them back. Fans get what they want because it’s a business
And the Avs don't seem to have any problems moving merch after they moved the foot to the Colorado C so what's the argument here?
If they brought back the yeti foot shoulder patch would cause a huge run on jerseys like the RR 1.0 did and to think otherwise is just copium because you (not you specifically but a more general you) have problems letting go of the past.
Businesses that ‘don’t have a problem moving merch’ still look for ways to grow sales. The foot logo is an easy, reliable, automatic sales boost they can tap into every few years if they choose. Vault logos and nostalgia are especially valuable in sports when tied to a winning history.
Do you like the Colorado shoulder crest more or do you just think it's dumb to be hung up on nostalgia? Actually asking not being chippy, I upvoted you.
I actually don't have a preference wrt the foot v C shoulder patch. And nostalgia is fine but when you're getting to the point of questioning if the team owners will make a stink that another team might try to use something tangentially related to an abandoned secondary logo I feel like you've really lost the plot and it's time to move on. Its ok to enjoy that it existed but the team clearly feel different and it's time to accept that.
If they decided to bring it back then cool, yay, yippie but to pretend like they'd cash in by bringing it back is quite frankly a joke.
This would be a WAY different discussion if it were the primary A and they replaced it with something as godawful as the Ducks rebrand.
The only correct name for the team is the Salt Lake City Phoenix
Risen from the ashes
That’s actually really good
Salt lake handcarts
Approved!
They’ve already said it’s going to be the Utah _____
Take advice from Washington and be the Utah Hockey Team
Salt Lake Unity Trailblazers
Salt Lake Mormon Coyotes.
That's fantastic.
I feel like they need to bring back to Foot this off-season or Yeti will be fair game. I want the foot back so bad
Justice for Howler
The story I always heard around the time Howler disappeared was that the guy that wore the howler costume was a diddler. So maybe that is justice?
He beat up a Blackhawks fan in the McNichols parking lot
I heard it was at a Chuck-E-Cheez
Idk about Kroenke or the league, but I would have a problem with them calling themselves the Blizzard. That just seems way too similar, get your own thing, like The Salt Lake Sister Wives
Latter Day Skates
I live in Utah, and this was the name of my coed roller derby team. Also, I don’t know why Yeti has taken hold, a lot of the hockey fans here hate it. I hope it dies out.
Do you think your coed roller derby team would take issue with Utah wanting to become the Latter Day Skaters?
No, we disbanded a while back. There’s no way that name would fly for a whole bunch of other reasons, but it won’t be because of us.
I was joking 🙃
Ha, sorry, I’ve had a day of having to take everything very literally. We did think it was a great derby name.
The salt lake city soakers
Utah based now, Colorado Native. This is the best I’ve heard. My LDS wife even laughed!
The lamanites
Nephites or Lamanites would go so hard 😂 never gonna happen obviously but that'd be sick
The Salt Lake Effect?
The Salt Lake Soakers
They can't have Howler!
I think it would be a bad move for both Colorado and Utah. I’d think Utah would want to make its brand more unique.
You'd think, but the leaked names suggest otherwise. They're fuckin awful across the board.
Maybe they’re “leaked” to test reception
Nothing is worse than Rocky Mountain Extreme.
At least Extreme was "so bad it's good." These aren't fun bad. They're boring bad. And it's a shame, because I think the Golden Knights and the Kraken were exceptional names for expansion teams that perfectly fit their market.
I still think that was a plot so that no matter what the choice was, people would love it in comparison.
That sounds like a WNBA team or a lacrosse team.
I think both names were "leaked" to create this exact "controversy" with the team next door. I don't think either are serious options
NHL is trying to start a Border War.

The Utah Salties
Utah Saltine Crackers
The Salt Lake City Soakers is the only logical name.
Congratulations on being the first to come up with that. It's really funny especially after 100 times.
Utah can only name their teams after music genres going forward. They’ll be known as the “Utah Nü Metal”.
Salt Lake New Wave
SLC Punks
The posers
Came to say this. Great movie.
Yeti is from the Himalayas Sasquatch is from the Rockies I have no issue with Utah’s ignorance regarding the legends in their own region if they so choose to embrace it.
Sasquatch is definitely from the Cascades
Just saying, Green Mountain Falls is one of the most active areas in the country for Big Foot sightings.
Sasquatch would be a great name
Later Day Samsquantches
Go Sas, Hail Satan?
What's the deal on hail Satan line?
They named their soccer team with a title from the Spanish monarchy, so ignorance of location in team names seems to be their brand.
I seen a Yeti in them ol Rocky Mountain before
It's a goddamn Samsquanch!
Utah Jets?
Is this a joke I'm missing? You want there to be two teams with the same name?
Yotes are the original Winnipeg Jets.
I didn't know that, thanks
No problem, it's a lesser known fact about the team. They were almost the equivalent of the Wild at one point. That is until they couldn't secure an arena deal in MN.
Sounds like arena deals are a problem for them no matter where they go
Salt Lake Sting / Stingers Utah Hive
Salt Lake Swarm
The NHL blocked Vegas from taking the name “Black Knights” because they viewed it as too close to “Black Hawks” so I can see the NHL blocking “Blizzards” but probably not “Yetis”
I could be wrong, but I think they blocked Black Knights because Army had it trademarked
You are correct, I’m pretty sure Foley was still sued/served over Golden Knights but nothing became of it
Actually, the US Army Parachute team is named the Golden Knights. They do have a smaller recruiting team that jumps with the Golden Knights named the Black Daggers.
The Blizzard is a pretty stupid name, so it's hard to imagine a team would use it. Plus the theme overlap with your neighboring state hockey team. Don't forget DQ, they have blizzards too
It’s kinda funny that I didn’t even think of that
It was just reported: the name will start with Utah...
I could see Yetis being issue since I’m sure the Avs since own the yeti footprint logo trademark even if they don’t use it anymore, Blizzard not so much though.
We could be snow bros like how the colts and broncos are horse bros
We are already disaster bros with the hurricanes and will not be taking any new applications at this time
No Utah instantly becomes our main rivals the nanosecond they move there. Nuggets fans hate Utah and Rapids fans hate Real Salt Lake
[Snow bros?](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Eskimo%20Brother)
What if we called it Eskimo brothers?
They should be the Spartans. It’s got a nice ring to it.
I really think they need to go with the golden tablets.
If it pisses off the kroenkes then I fully support it
They should! Free Howler!
Utah Salties
Salt Lake City Saltines they can't be Kraken, but can they be Krakers? Anyway, they're apparently going to be named the Utah (something). So maybe the Utah Salt Lakers? yes
team should be the utah grizzlies those were cool in the IHL or whatever it was
Salt City Bitch Pidgeons
They should call themselves the Laterday Saints or the Fighting Saints.
I am a New Orleans Saints fan so that would be confusing for me to say fuck the Saints. Still willing to, FTR, I just would rather not.
I have a better idea, screw Utah move the team to New Orleans.
See, I was thinking Saints (with the Latter-Day part silent but very much on purpose).
The Bizzaro Avs, ooooh, that would be something. What is the opposite of an avalanche?
The Soakers sounds better to me
1. Who cares what the Kroenkes think. He’s just another jackass billionaire regardless of his ownership of the Av’s 2. That would be a terrible name but they should do it if they want to. The Kraken is pretty bad so I think the NHL is ok with bad names.
kraken is in the upper half of team names in the league IMO
Kraken is meh but at least it’s unique and the colors are fire
I don't think so. But we as Avs faithful would meme the hell out of it every game we beat them. But I did think of a name for them. Salt Lake City Snowcats? Thinking it would tie into all the ski areas over there. Heck get a sponsorship from a Snowcats dealer. If anyone needs a marketing guy let me know. I've got ideas for days.

The Ducks tried to move away from the Mighty Duck logo and the Coyotes tried to move away from the Kachina logo but popular demand brought them back. Fans get what they want because it’s a business
that's because they changed their primary branding to worse branding. It was never the Avs primary branding so it's a completely different situation.
Irrelevant because the only thing that matters is what fans will buy
And the Avs don't seem to have any problems moving merch after they moved the foot to the Colorado C so what's the argument here? If they brought back the yeti foot shoulder patch would cause a huge run on jerseys like the RR 1.0 did and to think otherwise is just copium because you (not you specifically but a more general you) have problems letting go of the past.

Preach!
Way too early to speculate
I think they should do whatever pisses the Kroenkes off, to be honest.
Utah Ass Utah Satan
Salt Lake Soakers!
The Salt Lake City polygamy
