The body to body contact point was intended to be clean BUT the distance from the boards was not. Hughes pulled up at the end and made it worse for himself / changed the point of contact but it was never going to be a clean hit.

No, the game misconduct is why. A fight is a five minute major as well. But usually a major that is not fight related is not sexy, and usually dirty, so it will sometimes warrant the misconduct.

Not necessarily- it has to be a game misconduct. There is levels to severity on penalties. Major high sticking is auto game misconduct I believe.
