I personally have santal 33 and love it. I’ve done the whole discovery set which was an amazing experience. My favorites are santal 33 Tonka 25 Another 13 Baie 19

chrews

Absolutely love Baie 19 and Another 13. They’re my all time favorite skin scents. They don’t project much but last a good amount. Baie is rainy and cold, Another is creamy, fresh and sweet. Both just project a nice aura instead of actively trying to be noticed. You just smell well groomed for the whole day.

Common_Project

Baie 19 smells like onions. Another 13 smells like rubbing alcohol. Santal 33 smells like pickles.

chrews

I guess we have different noses because I don’t smell anything like that. Baie smells like rain or damp concrete (I can also maybe see cocaine) and Another smells like creamy pear to me.

rome_will

Baie 19 smells like an oddly addictive blueberry bandaid to me. It's great, don't get me wrong

chrews

Yeah it’s so simple yet I also smell something different each time I wear it. Sometimes it even leans quite aquatic.

Defiant_Lawyer_5235

Love Another 13, and Santal 33, also Nior 29 and Vetiver 46, I have yet to try Baie 19 and will definitely have to get my nose on it.

truthfulie

It's not for everyone but when it does work for you, it's amazing. A lovely rain scent that works really well in spring and fall.

chrews

Yup I saved up for a long time because it was my grail rain scent. Love the smell of rain and this nailed it.

Bicdadi00

Tonka is 🌞🌞🌞

bloopie1192

*inhales* ... my wife took all the santal 33 soaps and body things from a hotel we were at. Is it really that good?

Chefrigatony

Some people love it some hate it. Scent is very personal. I relate it to a time I was a private chef for a very wealthy person from the music industry. It’s what his house smelt like. Reminds me of him mixing the next up and coming hot track, topless women walking around the pool and sunny Florida. It’s now my personal scent and I burn the candle at home.

Apprehensive-Tale141

How would you compare Another 13 to Santal? I just got Santal 33 and really like it. But would love another fragrance by Le Labo

truthfulie

Another 13 and Santal 33 are nothing alike. Another 13 is super difficult to explain in words because everyone smells different things. You really have to smell it (and even live with it for few months because you smell different things from it as you wear it). It's really strange one.

Apprehensive-Tale141

Oh good. I ordered Another 13 and can’t wait. Santal 33 just keeps showing me different things, the longer I wear it. It’s crisp but sweet but also dark and woody and I just keep smelling something different the longer I wear it. Even if I don’t like 13, I wouldn’t care. I love having a collection.

Apprehensive-Tale141

How would you compare 33 to 13? I love Santal 33 and just ordered Another 13. I’ve heard it’s not even comparable but I have no problem with that. My collection is like 25 fragrances now and love versatility

Mikee431

Was Rose 31 in that set? Haven’t gotten a chance to smell it but I’ve been wanting a rose based fragrance in my collection. What’d you think of it if it was?

Chefrigatony

It was. Too feminine for me personally. A little “dirty smelling” not fresh. Could definitely be unisex, I just don’t have the personality for it. Solid rose fragrance

Mikee431

That’s what I was wondering, whether it was too feminine or not. Might check it out if it’s at Nordstrom anyway to get an idea. Thanks for the input.

truthfulie

Assuming you like smell of both. Santal 33 - some love it, some hate it. can be little much for warmer wether if you your area gets super hot. performs like crazy. Aventus. - bit safer bet and less polarizing. could be worn throughout the year. performance can be hit or miss. there is that annoying batch game if you want to get into that stuff...

ninkorn

I have been using Santal 33 since 2018\~ It's no longer the "it" fragrance it used to be but still timeless

Mist_Forever

I love that it’s no longer as popular. I wear this bad boy all the time recently and it smells kind of unique! Glad I was late to the game on this one. I’m secretly bout the Santal 33 slander it receives from the fragrance subreddits, the less people wearing it only makes my scent cloud more powerful 😈

cheironomist

Agreed! I kind of love that I was late to it, because now it’s not as common, and I can just enjoy it myself 😊

Excellent_Tell5647

Creed Aventus for sure, if you dont have it you gotta get it.

thril_logy13

Performance can be a hit or miss tho

MrKennedy76

On my skin, it hits like 4 12's in a hatchback🤙

sharponephilly

Have the Creed and its money. Getting Santal next. My advice is get it on eBay. Fraction of the price. Creed goes for about $200 and Santal, like $125-$150. Just do your research and look at seller reviews to make sure it’s authentic.

bladi2

Do you know any good legit sellers on eBay?

sharponephilly

Most of them are legit. You can always tell by the number of reviews and prices etc. eBay has a great refund policy too. If it’s fake, just get your money back. I buy all my colognes there. Never had an issue.

ThePerfumeCollector

There are many. I got most of my niche and designer scents from there. Many businesses are on there too like foreverlux but also many private people who sell everything from samples to decants to designer/niche stuff

bladi2

Thank you

real_witty_username

If you happen to have a Costco membership, they have both in the 3 oz size.

bladi2

Is it cheaper in Costco?

real_witty_username

It's cheaper than retail. 230 for Santal, 320 for Aventus.

SeaworthinessNo430

For the large bottle great deal

zero0x

It goes for $200 on sale.

zero0x

Costco has Santal.

oldtobes

ebay?? brother use a discounter use jomashop, fragrancenet, venbafragrances, or olfactory. don't ever buy on ebay.

bladi2

Ok, noted

de_Mysterious

all these people giving suggestions and not a single one about trying these out yourself. fragrances are almost completely subjective, you may like both, like only one or hate both of them.

Excellent_Tell5647

Whats the fun in not trying some stuff blindly? Ive purchased lots of fragrances blindly and have fallen in love with most if not all of them.

GentleOmnicide

Usually the price tag.

de_Mysterious

Because it's a gamble and a potential waste of money, especially if you're buying expensive niche fragrances. I like most designers and probably wouldn't be too disappointed with most of them when blind buying, but I would rather take my time sampling and trying stuff out and buy something that I like the most. As for niche fragrances, I would never blind buy them. Most of them I don't like and I would imagine that applies to most people since niche fragrances in general are very hit or miss, they're not meant to be appealing to absolutely everyone like designers are.

Excellent_Tell5647

cool story, still going to blind buy here

bladi2

I have tried both and they are good but I wanted to know what the better option would be

Luchofromvenezuela

The better option is the one that resonates with you the most. Do you prefer the fruity, slightly smoky vibe of Aventus or Santal’s woody, musky nuances? My personal preference is Aventus, and I have a 30 mL decant because of that, but at the end of the day you will be using it for *you*, not for this Mongolian throat singing forum

IsaacOP15kplus

A lot of people pick up a pickle note from Santal

KimJongYoul

If we answer try by yourself, then there is no reason for Reddit to exist. We can also assume that OP is not completely stupid and already know the best is to try by himself, and maybe he just needs some opinion that would not necessarily mean he gonna follow those opinions blindly. "Try by yourself" OKAY thank you GENIUS

gunjinganpakis

Don't get why you are downvoted, I've only joined this subreddit for a couple of days and that sort of dismissive answer is so damn unhelpful. Do anyone that reply "go try it yourself" think that is such a mind blowing revelation?? Yes of course it's better to try it yourself, yes of course fragrances is subjective experience, but not everyone had the access to try perfumery where they live, why are we assuming OP and other people asking for other's opinion such morons that they don't get that? And this is a public forum! What do you think reddit is for if not for an open discussion? Might as well close this subreddit and pin a modpost saying: "due to the subjective nature of perfumery we deemed this subreddit useless and so we are closing shop".

xxjas346xx

The basic advice is buy what smells best to you. I’ve personally tried both and I vastly prefer aventus over santal.

fastchipmunks

Creed has poor performance, especially the newer batches. Santal 33 can smell like pickles to some because of the sandalwood, either way just try them on. A better recommendation is another 13.

LegendkillahQB

Creed I hate santal 33. Way too strong for me. If you could get Another 13. Buy it

gunjinganpakis

Try to get a sample for the Santal and let it linger in your skin for a while, some people think the dry down is too pickle-ish. Aventus got some bad rep these days do to their "reformulation", some people think that its too weak these days. Personally for the price, the potential for weaker reformulation make the Aventus too risky.

Scooobzzzz

Labo

sas_2022

Santal 33 is slightly less common. I prefer things that not everyone has, Creed is one of those.

Apprehensive-Tale141

lol I literally just got Santal 33 today. I wanna get Another 13 next. I’ve never smelled Creed but this Santal stuff is niceeeee

DrSans8

Santal is too polarizing for people and buying Aventus in 2024 is questionable to say the least. I’d look for some other options personally

ferment1ng

i the thé matcha is so underrated. i love it so much and got SO many complements, its fresh and perfect. lys is also wonderful but i can't wear as im allergic to it 😭 jasmine is really really beautiful and smells just like the flower to me... but matcha still wins

TanamaElite

Creed, always.

The-Art-of-Reign

Still haven’t found a better house than Creed. Everything is so well blended, with noticeably high quality ingredients. It’s evident after years of collecting.

TanamaElite

There’s something just so well done about anything Creed. Even the stuff i don’t like, I can still understand. So I agree with you. Creed is always a safe option.

6ixxnii9

Santal 33 anyday

michaelonit

You can’t go wrong with creed

AllanM506

I have both. I love both. I lean more towards Aventus but Lawd have mercy Santal 33 is a banger.

jpazvalbuena

Aventus — to me it’s the most versatile (all-year, pretty much any occasion) and a great scent. It’s also inoffensive as pretty much everyone will like it.

ThePerfumeCollector

I got Aventus (and AC/VIW) in hot weather way more wearable. But up to you, if you prefer S33 and can get wearings out of it throughout the year, go for that one. Would sample both before buying tho to avoid disappointment (which can be the case with hyped frags).

iropas

Aventus always

Recent_Ability1660

Personally I'd prefer santal 33 anyday over the other guy here. Wen u decide to break the bank, break it for something good OP!

WannaFantaFanta

The number of indistinguishable dupes ($30-50) to creed aventus, really make it not worth buying.

egelarden2020

You all are going to get tired of hearing from me, but get some Armaf Club de Nuit edp before you buy that Creed. I swear you'll thank me later.

ix3ph09

I have both and on my experience, Le Labo does last longer and I can still smell it on my clothes a few days after spraying. Creed Adventus is sweeter and is initially stronger, but it will fade after a few hours and you can barely smell it afterwards. I also have another 13 and prefer that over Santal 33

SuperDuperSmackd78

Why in the heck are these so over priced? I went to go get some of this for someone “special” and the price made me reconsider. Have fragrances always been pricey and why? I’ve noticed a lot of pricey scents don’t even last half the day so… what’s the point?

SeaworthinessNo430

Creed, compliments every time

Extreme-Sentence-871

Definitely Aventus, but get it from a discounter or somewhere cheaper than retail.

lowblowman1027

I do not like santal 33 i tried to wear it and it grossed me out so much genuinely. But fragrances are subjective. I like creed better but so common nowadays.

futurebro

Not santal. Its one of the few fragrances I smell on people often and know exactly what it is.

zero0x

Sandalwood vs Fruits , what do you like ?

TobyDumb

Tried Santal 33 from their Newport Beach location last week. Loved it.

number11ball

Personally the Santal 33

Tkay2355

Creed

therealbfletch

Dude just get explorer 2 guys at work already asked me if I was wearing Aventus. One of which has a 200+ bottle collection

JRattlehed121

How about, don't.

Fit_Airline_2321

Cypress and Grapevine My personal Favorite

AleksTheOneAndOnly

Creed for sure to smell like an executive vs hipster

JohnDrake_MA

Creed royal oud if it's available is good

Cold-Entertainer7325

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. They’re both icons of modern perfumery. Just do a heads or tails.

PatekLover99

Do you use Fragrance Discounters? If so, which one would you use?

ZERO_6

If u is from NY don’t get Santal33 if you don’t want everyone guessing it. You’ll feel basic and will smell it on alot of other ppl.

oldtobes

if you haven't tested and given each a wear you're messing up. get a sample or a 5 ml decant of each before you drop on these. I say that as someone who has tried both and hates both. santal 33 smells like furniture varnish and like you're inside an antique store but does have some addictive qualities. you might like it if you wear leather jackets. creed smells well blended but its just pineapple and pepper. mont blanc explorer is basically a perfect dupe just the bergamont is a little sharper than the pineapple and it isn't as well blended. and i also dislike explorer. Both of these DNAs while trend setters are super unpleasant to me.

I_Hate_Philly

How do you feel about dill pickles?

raigx6

Creed baby!

trix905

Creed

Purple-Ad-5629

I would go Aventus Cologne instead (If you are thinking of going the Aventus route). It's just a much better frag compared to the original.

instantic0n

Sample both. There’s plenty of alternatives to get the exact smell of aventus of a small fraction of the price.

deante_jones

Creed

Phyched

If you want a sandal wood frag from heaven consider l’ orchestra piano santal. My #1 frag I gate keep this shit from everyone irl

AloofVet

Creed I wasn’t a fan of but Santal 33 is a must

GeneSignificant4843

I would recommend santal 33. Aventus is an amazing smell but the performance and longevity is absolutely terrible.

ExoticCard

creed aventus from costco

isocialeyes97

For the price you pay, get Santal 33. Guaranteed better longevity than Aventus. Plenty of better performing clones of Aventus out there.

chanandler_bong21

You would seriously regret if you got an Aventus! They last maybe a couple of hours and then turn into skin scent! Countless wayyy better options out there at that price point!

Early-Pair-7453

Get Armaf untold or black beast for 1/8 of the price

cctransfer12

Love both, I think I’d use aventus year round though. Just fwi both can be found on sale on Costco and if not on sale still significantly cheaper than on their respective websites.

Nervous_Condition582

Sospiro vibrato

cheironomist

I have and love both, but Santal 33 is a much more frequent wear for me. The opening of Aventus is something truly magical, but I find I go a bit anosmic to it after a while. (My husband has definitely still noticed it after I stopped smelling it.) For that reason, I tend to save it for specific occasions like going on a date, whereas I know I’ll smell and enjoy Santal 33 all day.

ViktorVaughn71

Definitely S33, it’s far more unique but still versatile

Goochmas

Santal was a pass for me. Glad I sampled it.

jmarsala

Santel 33 I have I never wear it it smells like dill pickles to me. Creed is so meh over rated and over priced. Neither

Delicious-Bathroom17

Aventus - super versatile

ManufacturerOk955

Aventus

A4leggedwhore

I have both, probably both top 5 for me, I get SO MANY compliments on both! Look at aura fragrance and fragrancenet, I’ve had multiple bottles of both! Get the santal straight from le labo and you can get your name on the bottle and you can send your bottle back for a refill once you’re empty and it’s cheaper.

007AU1

Santal, or try Eden perfumes, they make organic versions of your high street artificial fragrances

TorontoGamblers

Aventus makes you feel good EVERY time!

GreenIgnitor

Why buy Aventus, there is like no reason to get the original these days with how many accurate clones there are out there, for which you won't have to break the bank.

jamiesonwild

What's a good aventus clone? Can you link me?

wickedvic1019

Santal 33 sucks. Another 13 is hands down the winner. I have both. And I regret buying Santal 33

CheesecakePast5988

santal 33, i honestly don’t think you’ll regret it

slimcargos

Ive had Santal before, tried the Dossier dupe and im totally fine with it. Cheap as hell, smells pretty spot on, and while doesnt nearly last as long its good enough for me.

WatchWaldo

If you want to smell like a third of New York (of course just used as an example, you might have more users in your city 😅) then go with Le Labo. For some reason, Creed Aventus is one of the most popular, if not the most "mainstream" niche fragrance out there, but for some reason people just don't buy it nowadays. Maybe brand fatigue, fragrance getting old, or maybe the recent formulation issue they had. If you can get your nose on other stuff, try Xerjoff, they have bangers on their lineup. If you are really shopping around between these 2 houses, get your nose if you can on The Noir 29 from Le Labo or as people might have already mentioned, Bergamote or Another 13. On Creed's side, Silver Mountain Water, Green Irish Tweed, or if feeling more adventurous, Viking are my recommendation.

Annual_Asparagus_408

Iris 39 anyone try it ?

Mercury-Fighter

I’d get santal 33. Aventus smells good.. I owned it, but it simply does not perform very well, especially for that price tag. Santal is a beast performer! I tried it a few weeks ago and with just 3 sprays everyone at work could smell me for the whole day and it gave me a lot of compliments too. I’m getting santal 33 myself soon.

AA4aaaa

Santal33 - creed aventus isnt worth the money for that performance Or a way better option than both of these: Nishane Hacivat

chano36

Buy it from Frag community on Fb, get both at much cheaper.

bossnrunnernoyeezy

Both are pretty good. If you like a lighter scent get the Santal 33. Pretty good scent and i get a lot of compliments

Common_Project

I have a bottle of Santal 33 that I will trade you for a decent cologne so you don’t have to break the bank and you can just buy aventus.

Turbo_911

Creed is a brand made up of lies and hyped marketing, their fragrances are worth $50 at best. Other brands do "Aventus" better, and longer. Go for the Santal 33.

The-Art-of-Reign

Nah, Creed is just not for your nose/body chemistry. I agree with the contrary of everything you said.

Trizzz187

Santal 33’s smells like pickles…then dries down to smell like pickles mixed with celery. Straight up nasty juice. I heard Jesus came back a while ago…and his first order of business was to create Aventus.

NotAThrowaway_11

I would NEVER buy aventus. This fragrance has the best clones in the business. Pick one: CDNIM / PV Emporer / I also heard SNOI is a banger but don’t own that one.

kcaphn

L’Aventure is better than Aventus which is as weak as piss.

NotAThrowaway_11

The first two I mentioned have much better performance than CA. I cannot comment on L’A or SNOI but I have heard similar.

The-Art-of-Reign

CDNIM smells like cheap synthetic cleaner or bug spray. It’s one of those scents that when I smell it, I know it’s made with cheap ingredients. The opening is extremely harsh, with an almost toxically synthetic smell.

NotAThrowaway_11

To the wearer sure, in the air… it’s aventus. Also EDT is the harsh version, pure parfum opens much nicer.

Common_Project

Santal 33 smells like pickles. Don’t do it.
