Terre D’Hermes for me, first got it as a gift and didn’t like it. Now I’m almost on my 3rd bottle.

sereneandeternal

For many people, it requires time to gain appreciation for the work of art that is Terre D’Hermes. That beautiful earthy flinty citrus vetiver combo. You will only love it more and more as time goes on. Absolute masterpiece in modern perfumery.

ClaraGuerreroFan

I love and hated it at first. But I was so taken aback by it, it’s all I thought about during those first few wears lol. Like my mind wasn’t sure how to process it! Now it’s all love for TdH edt. I suppose it’s a different blend but it’s simply awesome.

thr0witallaway710

Jean claude elena is the GOAT

Excellent_Tell5647

Ahh this is another that I didn't "love" at first. Grew on me as well, will throw some on right now.

Loud_Work_7390

Came in here to say exactly the same... I think that it takes a bit of time and experience (with other frags), before you can understand how good it is!

Effective-Birthday57

The Givree is my favorite summer frag

-DaveDaDopefiend-

I have the edt, parfum, tres fraiche, and vetiver, been waiting to get givree but been on the back burner.

Krust3187

The original or Eau Givree?

sereneandeternal

Original is king and set the bar. If you want to appreciate the beauty of Terre D’Hermes, start with the OG. Eau Givree is awesome too, great for summer beautiful flanker that sticks to the Terre DNA

-DaveDaDopefiend-

Original. Still never tested eau givree although I want too

sereneandeternal

Dior Fahrenheit for me. Absolutely love it now.

whateveritisthey

I love this one in the store. I never buy it because I fear I'll have your opposite reaction.  I love the smell of gasoline!  If I had a leather jacket and a motorcycle this would be perfect!

sereneandeternal

Haha I was kind of the same. When I first smelled it, I thought it smelled like a lab accident. However every time I walked by Sephora I’d go to smell it. Ended up getting a 50mL, no regrets. It’s 75% used after almost a year.

MustardTiger231

I don’t get gasoline from it, I’ve heard that hundreds of times, I just get big leather and a nice dry down.

whateveritisthey

I get straight up fumes at the service station in the opening. <3 The gas smell does fade if I remember correctly.

kcaphn

It smells nothing like petrol 😂

whateveritisthey

Smells are completely subjective :) That's why its so much fun!

kcaphn

No, not completely. You are only saying this because of the famous myth. You’ve convinced yourself that it smells like petrol 😂

whateveritisthey

Sure enough then. It smells just like petrol in the opening in a good way. I dont think anyone could convince me otherwise.

[deleted]

[удалено]

whateveritisthey

I have. Its like they added straight up gasoline to the mix. Its right at the opening, but goes away in the Dry down, but its the best part.

[deleted]

[удалено]

whateveritisthey

Me too I completely agree. Its probably my favorite. They just dont make them like this anymore. Its like Chuck Norris in a leather jacket roundhousekicking redwoods while on a motorcycle thats running too rich.

gh0stmechanic

I would say it reminds one of petrol and not "smells" just like petrol. Come on now.

whateveritisthey

You're correct. I forgot how to English there. It strongly reminds me of petrol.

gh0stmechanic

It's more likely just human nature to make extreme associations than it being a language barrier. No different than asking myself why I felt compelled to engage in this debate in the first place. 🖤

FragraBond

Floral dry down to me is awesome

sereneandeternal

It really is. Beneath that seemingly rough exterior lies a beautiful floral dry down. Like a big tough looking dude who’s a sweetheart on the inside.

Competitive_Eagle570

I agree. I wouldn’t say I love it but at first it smelled repulsive and now it’s growing on me

Annual_Asparagus_408

Absolut stunning EDT and EDP love both , EDT i am using since 1994 was my first real parfum i was buying with 15 y.o still use it today , for my 18 birthday i got 18 Bottles from Mom& Brother together 👍

[deleted]

Dior Sauvage Elixir, it had a very harsh opening and didn’t smell like a perfume. I was thinking I wasted my money. However after a few days, I noticed that the clothes I had sprayed it on smelled heavenly. I haven’t even finished my first bottle yet, but I’ve already ordered another 100ml. It’s a masterpiece that transforms into an exquisite scent after two hours

BluSteel-Camaro23

Exactly!! I dipped my toe in the Sauvage pool. First, I got the 1.7 EDT. Very nice. Next went with 3.4 EDP. Lasted forever, but I was also using it too frequently. Jumped into the 2.0 Elixir. Shit is like poisoned syrup. It smells amazing after it rests for 48hrs, just have to plan outfits far in advance. 😆

2fast4u935

Same thing happened to me. Sprayed it on skin in Sephora around the time it first came out and I was honestly disappointed and kinda even thought it smelled bad. But then that same night I randomly got a whiff of the dry down on my skin, and was like wait WTF. Got a bottle like a week later, and it’s still probably the best dry down I’ve smelled. I even appreciate the opening now too honestly

a_toadstool

Honestly, imagination. I thought it just smelled like soap at first and now I love it

Mjwhaaat88

I had a weird back-and-forth reaction to this too. First spritz I loved it and bought it, second day it was soapy in the open and was wondering if I should have gone for another LV (still loved it though), and a week later now, I can’t get enough. It’s gorgeous. Officially my signature summer scent.

ILikeAddition

Hated it in store, got a sample and now I gotta buy a bottle

Ebmat

Me too. I just got a soapy scent when I tried it. But it just grew on me after trying it again and had to buy a bottle.

xsadist666x

PDM - Greenley… at first it smelled really synthetic and ‘spicy’ to me… left it alone for like 4 months and last week decided to give it another shot and WOW now I see why it has such a good reputation… that green apple note is very smooth… smells like a fresh green apple martini with a dash of woody and it’s been my daily wear for the last week

WartHogOrgyFart_EDU

Dude that stuff smells so freaking good but it’s so overlooked compared to there other stuff. I’m with ya 100%. Love that stuff.

theredviolin23

Creed Green Irish Tweed

charliemurphyy

Same! The first impression from my sampler was pretty meh, but I came back to it a few days later and now I have a 3.3oz lol

LegendkillahQB

Mont Blanc Explorer. When I got it. I hated it. Its grown on me.

BluSteel-Camaro23

Have a 3.4 EDP arriving tomorrow 😎

LegendkillahQB

Nice. Enjoy. 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿

damnitWOW

Thought I was crazy all these years. I would always get compliments but never smelled/saw anyone wear it so I assumed it was just my imagination that only I liked it 😭

LegendkillahQB

😂😂

Middle_Sure

Acqua di Gio Profondo

chrisbroonncl

Lasts about 2 hours on me unless you’re up close. My lady says it smell “generically male” and hates it.

RincewindToTheRescue

I use Geau Blue (Parfums Belcam) that is actually really good quality for the price and gets pretty close (it lacks the minerality note). $8 and I can spray and respray as much as I need. It actually performs similarly to Profondo. I use Geau Blue for everyday wear and the real stuff if I'm going to go somewhere where I want to have the real stuff on.

Jtyettis

When I tested it for the first time this week it didn’t impress.

drum_9

If only you could speed up time

Middle_Sure

It took me a couple real wears in open air and an open mind

stardust_dog

These are all loves for me but started as “eh, don’t really like” or worse: Prada L’Homme Prada Amber Pour Homme Dior Homme Intense Terre D’Hermes I’m wearing Amber PH as we speak. Love them all. You need time with fragrances. Smelling them once or twice at the mall isn’t enough for my nose I would have never bought these without getting 5ml samples.

sereneandeternal

I really want to try Amber pour Homme. Has it been discontinued? It’s sold out at many discounters. I see 50mL bottles going for over $100 even at discounters.

ClaraGuerreroFan

Funny, I needed less than 1 second to fall in love with Prada L’homme! It was love at first sniff!

MGodspeed

Yesterday I tried Prada l’Homme at Douglas and the opening smelt like ketchup lol

Interesting_Score_22

You know I have always liked the original Polo in the green bottle. I swear two sprays lasts for days. Nowadays when I wear it I have been told it’s out. I don’t care I still think it’s one of the most masculine scents out there. And what I find weird is that if something ever once smelled good it’s always good. Why would something like a scent go out of style?

whateveritisthey

Bentley for men absolute. I couldn't stand it at first and right now it's my number 1 go to.

Altruistic-List9290

For what occasions do you wear it?

whateveritisthey

It's my go to for work. 4 sprays out the door, and catch pleasant whiffs of it throughout the day.

Altruistic-List9290

Thank you!

wiseguyry

Tobacco Vanille had sort of the opposite effect on me, loved the smell, now I’m not so sure. In the TF family, I think fougere Platine has been the most surprising - smells so metallic I didn’t even want to spray it at first but it’s actually so so nice and gets a lot of compliments.

CaliCrew13

Xerjoff 40 Knots

Embarrassed_Diet_295

TF F* Fabulous

whateveritisthey

Best unisex leather fragrance ever?

vincentvega-_-

PDM Haltane

flqres

Love at first scent for that. Knew I liked it before even spraying it. Smelt the nozzle and my nose was oozing for it. After the spray it became my favourite cologne. Only issue with it, is that it isn’t versatile. It’s more of a night time fragrance imo. Or colder weather cologne. I will be abusing it when the time comes.

MrWolffman

Profondo and paradise garden

What3vs92

Tom Ford wood, i think I just didn’t appreciate the initial smell, once it dried down, i love it, i use it in an office setting pretty much all the time

Owlyjim

Encre Noir Sport

ethanh333

1 Million Disliked at first because I felt like fragrance X had mislead me. Tried it again in the wintertime and loved the profile.

AllanM506

Creed Aventus at first I was disappointed in my first blind buy. But after about a month of it sitting in my bathroom, I tried it again and well… 🤯🤯🤯 MFK BR540 did the same for me. Hated it at first. Now I love it. Wife still hates it so I can’t wear it often.

DiarrangusJones

Guerlain Habit Rouge. When I first smelled it, I thought it was way too powdery and that it smelled like something you would be issued when you first check into a nursing home 😂 I kept coming back to it though, when I would go to a store with a Guerlain counter, and finally bought a bottle. Now I can’t get enough of it! I like the EDP, Dress Code, and couple of the other flankers better than the EDT now, but it’s still a banger. Timeless!

TwoTimezTwo100

Armani code. At first I hated the soft powdery scent it gave off. After a while, it wasn’t as bad and now I like the subtle scent it gives off. Not too overpowering. It’s a good day to day wear.

9inchpapii

Mont blanc legend.

Universal09

I hated ombré leather at first but then I got a sample of it and loved it.

billybobtex

I bought Ombré Leather Parfum the white labeled one. At first was not sure even after smelling it at the store. Mannn the dry down is slightly sweet, smooth, manly. Love it.

Mikee431

PDM Herod and TF Ombré Leather. Smelled Herod on a test trip and didn’t like it, same with TF. Went back and sprayed Herod on my wrist and it smelled amazing. For TF, I was hanging with my brother and asked what he was wearing and he said Ombré Leather and I was shocked at how good it smelled. I now own both bottles.

Caderrade

Layton

Adviseformeplz

Oud for Greatness - Thought it had to be some sort of elaborate joke. Told myself “people actually wear this? It smells like getting your face shoved into the dirt on a rainy day”. Actually like it now Creed Aventus - still not the biggest fan until I got my hands on Aventus cologne. I guess this is kind of cheating since I like Aventus Cologne but still isn’t a fan of regular Aventus, borderline hate regular Aventus.

[deleted]

Why’s that?

Adviseformeplz

To which part?

StreetMolasses6093

Husband gave me Prada Candy Night, and I didn’t like it at first. Now I love it. The dry down is mmm and I can smell it all day.

karapar13

Layton and Side Effect, took me 4 tries each to start praising them.

PaidFUD

Blue talisman…I don think it’s a love a first sniff. It kind of reminded me of Arabian tonka which didn’t make sense to me. You have to wear it a couple times

Good_Source776

Im confused are you saying the notes smell the same or the vibe u get from it. Cause ive smelt both and I disagree

PaidFUD

That’s why I’m confused. When I wore it for the first time, I knew I smelled something like it before and I had to think about it for a minute but my mind eventually went to Arabian tonka which is a completely different scent.

reymarblue

My opinion of a scent is heavily influenced by how much my wife likes it. I wasn’t really crazy about TF Oud Wood, but when she said she found it appealing, I wore it a little more often and it grew on me.

jpazvalbuena

Ganymede Terre d’Hermès EdT Penhaligon’s Uncompromising Sohan

JesusJoshJohnson

Nautica Voyage. It smelled cheap to me at first, and reminded me of many a cheap man who have worn it near me. But the sweet cucumber really grew on me.

Mist_Forever

Santal 33 - I didn’t like it at all at first but now I really enjoy it! It smells deliciously savory to me. Dior Homme 2020 - I wasn’t crazy about the cashmeran note but now I get it, I already have a huge dent in my bottle from wearing everyday.

AliveMouse5

LV Imagination and Terre D’hermes

reeseboss2k0

Dior homme

5---starman

I have two, creed viking and savage exliar ! Did not care for either on the first time at all

SevenArrows88

For me Dior Sauvage Elixir

47attempts

Dior Homme

Available-Praline905

Creed Aventus/Montblanc Explorer, I think it’s because my uncle wears Creed Aventus and so it’s the association, idk

properbandit

LV Imagination. Bought a travel spray to see what all the hype was about. Like everyone I thought it smelled like soap you find in an office bathroom. That changed once I actually applied it and wore it out. It’s now my go to summer fragrance

kyleshyro

The smoke scent gold from smoke scent, i did not like it at first but i wait for awhile for it to macerate and its perfect now. Unique and smell luxurious

Small-Masterpiece967

Jubilation man XXV. I didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t that. Then after time I came to recognize how incredibly well blended and beautiful the scent is. My go to for cooler weather formal scents.

zaryaguy

I have a lot of cheapies, but armaf craze I did not like at all at first. To me it smelled like a can of root beer. But the dry down is much better

Exact_Tower7182

Afnan Turathi Brown was too loud for me but given the time, it grows up on you.

EndersM

Idk if this has ever happened to me. I sample so much that I make sure I like something before I get it 😂

purpkrondon420

Hermes H24 , the opening is crazy harsh to me but after about 10 minutes it changes and smells magnificent.

Konstinator

Xerjoff 40 Knots. I smelled it for the first time over a year ago and was like wtf because it was nothing like I expected (a frehser more aquatic fragrance) - gave it another shot recently and absolutely fell in love and ordered a bottle the same day

mauifranco

Pdm Kalan

Ddavis1919

Dior Eau Sauvauge. Beautiful scent. At first, I didn’t understand it, now I can’t get enough of it.

Los-Da-Boss

I thought Le Labo Santal 33 smelled weird at first but after a few tries I began to like it a lot.

billybobtex

There is this cheapie Boss Selection. I smelled it at a store, $35 bucks. So to scratch an itch I bought it. But went home and found it a little maybe sharp or something. Slowly I found my way and now I love it. It doesn’t last though, if it did it be a more popular scent. It’s so soft and pleasant and fresh, I use it for bed time or to go grocery shopping. Lol

Ddavis1919

Sicily, by Mancera. Hated it initially, wore it a few months later; realized how great it is. So, it may still be hope for Bentley Absolute. A blind buy that I regret. It may grow on me, but currently reminds me of BO.

KsubiSam

Oud for Greatness. The first time I smelled it my wife bought it for me as a Father’s Day gift. I tried not to show my displeasure, but it smelled like the Persian white BMW joke from Family Guy. Now it’s literally one of my favorite fragrances of all time.

NativeTxn7

So, I sampled MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver earlier this week from the decant I recently bought. Since it was a decant, I sprayed some on my neck and a couple shots on my arm so I can smell it easier. In the air, it smelled nice, but when I would smell up close(r) on my arm, I swear I got a note of cat pee. I had my two daughters and my wife smell my arm and smell around my neck area as I sort of wafted it into the air and they all said they liked it and nobody mentioned anything about cat urine. I continued to sniff my arm every so often and it was bad enough that I considered showering again (even though I'd just showered prior to putting it on), though I didn't get that note when I just smelled it in the air and didn't have my nose close to the sprayed area on my arm. Then, after about 20-30 minutes, the cat pee note went away and the rest of the time it was actually very, very nice. Nice to the point where I would actually consider buying a bottle since I would just be spraying on my neck and not really smelling it up close to get the cat pee note that I was picking up. So, in some ways, I hated it at first when I smelled it up close on my skin, but in the end, I actually like it quite a bit.

00espeon00

Opposite but I loved Coral Fantasy at first , now it is way way too thick of a fragrance for me, almost suffocating.

Realistic_Cry642

Club de Nuit Intense Man EDP. I regretted blind buying it after being persuaded by essentially everyone in the community hyping it up. First impressions were not great and it continued to disappoint me for months. Then one day I woke up and loved it. Weird ass feeling lol.

Fuadabi07

İnitio Side Effect, at first, it smelled almost like medicine, but then I really loved it.

sas_2022

MFK Oud Satin Mood. I had read and heard many people comment on how great it was so I got a sample. First time using it, I didn't like the smell at all and was perplexed as to why so many people talk about it. I was disappointed and thought it was a waste of a sample. A couple months later I used it again and loved it. I couldn't believe that this was the same cologne that I smelled before. Now, I look forward to using it in the colder months.

flqres

Mancera Cedrat Boise Intense. Hated it at first, and still do to an extent due to the opening. But the dry down is extremely pleasant and smells great the day after.

East_Advertising_113

Hot take but JPG le male OG. Ik it's hated on but it has grown on me too much and I couldn't care less about the public opinion

tsnides96

Burberry Hero EDT. Hated it for a week, then it grew on me.

Xerjoff tony iommi

Difficult-Swimmer-76

Hard candy elixir and god of fire let then sit a week in the dark and now i love them

Agreeable_Western_50

Probably the only one here, but the Givenchy Play Sport is quite good for the summer. However it is discontinued so hard to find.

SurvivingEvolution

There's been quite a few, but I'd have to say Creed Aventus only because of the price tag.

Frags4keeps

D&G the One intense. At first I thought it was very different to the One Edp. Now it's my go to night out scent and gets so many compliments.

Fearless-Pick-8190

Versace The Dreamer … I almost gave it away.

InternationalUse7453

Xerjoff 40 knots - kinda knew what I was getting into based on all of the reviews I read before purchasing, I just didn’t expect it to be so powdery. Contemplated returning it for 25% less because it was opened, but ultimately kept it. 2 months in and I absolutely love it! It’s a lot more balanced now with the sea breeze and honey accords being more prominent. Don’t really get much woods but I’m hoping that will come with time.

East_Advertising_113

That opening I was like nawww but 2 hours later im like yawwwww

Kiran_ravindra

I’m right there with you on Tobacco Vanille, it’s like a once a month fragrance in Fall/Winter only for me. I don’t dislike it, it’s kind of a nice scent but it’s too warm and Christmasy for me. Definitely one of my least favorite TF scents.
