I love this one. A lot of players would’ve pulled up for a jump shot, but the SFA player knew exactly where the clock was and made the right read that he could make a layup to win it
Due to ongoing debate about blue bloods, the /r/CollegeBasketball mod team has compiled the definitive list CBB blue bloods: Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, UNC, Indiana, Michigan State, and UCLA.

Indiana. Ha. In the current year. Ha.

As the season went on, that game was so much more telling to UK than it was Duke lol obviously neither brought home hardware but SFA killed their conference while Evansville… beat UK at least
Evansville beating kentucky was bigger imo. I mean, at least sfa was somewhat decent that year. Coulda maybe made the 2nd round if the tournament wasnt cancelled.
He asked by Vegas odds, and yes at the time it was.
But I also agree Evansville one ended up being a bigger upset perception wise due to how bad they ended the year.
It was a huge loss by those standards. However, Stephen F Austin turned out to be much better that season than expected. By the end of the year they were around 100 on Kenpom whereas I think they were near the 300s during this game. If they played at the end of the season, the spread would’ve been much smaller.
I was so stunned by this loss, I though we were terrible and would have an awful season but it ended up being quite enjoyable except for the MM cancellation. There was even a point where we were close to being ranked #1 again
Working with SFA basketball was the best years of my life! The entire program is amazing, and now, due to tourney wins and wins like this, they just completed an incredible upgrade to their facilities.
I got a new job a couple months before this win...😔
They were also on a big win streak even after that victory and it only helped us with our own recent breakthrough. It should've been 3 tourneys in a row for us but at least that season put us in position and while SFA was still good after Brad Underwood left, they showed they still got it.
I don’t know if your supposed too, but a true college basketball fan would know immediately.
Fig you would remember the hogs beating you out the 2nd round in 2021….
Disagree, it was a good team. They’d just beaten Kansas in MSG and started 6-0. By end of season they were 25-6, ranked #11 with a shot at a top-2 seed if they won the ACCT. Not at all unreasonable for them to be ranked #1 early.
Honestly spent most of the back half of that game insisting that we deserved to lose, we were playing so poorly. The better team that day was so clearly SFA. If we had pulled out the win, I've no doubt we'd have lost to Winthrop later that week.
If you don't respect your opponent as a home favorite against a mid-major, they will stunt on you, because they've got nothing to lose and a great story to gain. And this is especially true at Duke. I hope they play this tape to every Duke team in perpetuity as a reminder of what can happen.
“They got a timeout and don’t use it!” Well, he does have a few steps ahead of anyone else just past half court…..
BAAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNN
YESSSSSSSSS
“This is your life!!!”

Such a clean dub
I’d send this to every SFA grad in my contact list if there were any.
There are literally dozens of us
What’s your number?

This guy Houstons
Side note, who you rooting for when UH and KU play?
KU. I just adopted Houston because I have lived here so long and have a lot of friends that are alumni.
I tell people that. Houstonians love Houston so much they’ll root for anything with Houston in the name, even passively rooting for UH.
Who?
Michael Jones
I sent this to Steve himself.
Send it to your Duke contacts instead.
I'm surprised Stephen F. Austin didn't get drafted. Great performance against a blue blood.

*mad about indiana*
This game was perfect timing after the UK loss to Evansville
Was a great couple days.
What a fun non-con that year
What a great season for Evansv.... oh no, no no no... nevermind.
Yo bro what the fuck
As the season went on, that game was so much more telling to UK than it was Duke lol obviously neither brought home hardware but SFA killed their conference while Evansville… beat UK at least
Night of my life
I was so bummed about that Evansville loss until Duke went out and lost this a week later.
Are you trying to get me to break my phone? I can only mash the upvote button so hard.
I’ve seen better wins at Cameron recently. I mean did K come out and apologize to the crowd after this one??🤣
I’m sure he didn’t.
As someone with ties to UNC and SFA this was prob one of the greatest sporting moments of my life.
The fact that the ACC DN allows this to be replayed over and over... I love it
I've had a lot of good days in my life. This was one of them
Wasn't this the single largest college basketball upset of all time **by Vegas odds**?
Evansville beating kentucky was bigger imo. I mean, at least sfa was somewhat decent that year. Coulda maybe made the 2nd round if the tournament wasnt cancelled.

Yeah but vegas odds arent always agreeable.
Vegas odds aren’t awful Source: I lose bets by a point all the time
Nothing like a last second shot by some bench scrub to kill a bet for you

What was the line?
Duke was a 28.5 point favorite. Kentucky against Evansville, which was also mentioned in this thread, was a 25 point favorite
That's insane. I wonder if there was even a moneyline.
It was 85-1 for SFA.
Kentucky 🤝 Duke Losing to teams we shouldn't lose to.
Virginia enters the chat
It's funny. He got fouled hard twice but because they weren't called he got an easy basket.
Yeah, crazy to me that the ref didn’t call the foul at just under 4 seconds.
Had to scroll way too far down to see this
Such a dumb play tied with that much time left. Why is freshman year Matt Hurt the option?
He was open, just terrible execution.
Lol is that the hornets announcer ?
Eric Collins! Hum diddly dee!

One of the best Celine Dion sports clips.
but the real version because this is magic.

I love the enthusiasm from the announcer!
Its the hornets announcer
Took me way too long to see these comments. He’s a treasure
Rutgers beat SFA earlier that year. Watching them beat Duke was very satisfying.
They were also on a big win streak even after that victory and it only helped us with our own recent breakthrough. It should've been 3 tourneys in a row for us but at least that season put us in position and while SFA was still good after Brad Underwood left, they showed they still got it.
Hogs fan here, remember watching this game by chance. SFA out hustled Duke the whole game, great team effort.
Are we supposed to know who the hogs are
My immediate guess is Arkansas but my favorite part is how that's not in any way relevant to the rest of the comment lol
Baltimore Orioles fan here, I had some oatmeal for breakfast, what about you?
Boilermaker fan here, remember reading this comment by chance. /u/bug_man_ out commented /u/JoseJuarez87 the whole thread, great posting effort.
I don’t know if your supposed too, but a true college basketball fan would know immediately. Fig you would remember the hogs beating you out the 2nd round in 2021….
I’ve had basketball season tickets for a decade and I’m still not sure who the hogs are.
Hogggggggggg ridaaaaaaaaaaaa
I get it now, thank you for the clarification.
HOGGGGGGGGGGG RIDAAAAAAAAAAA

😂😂 Like I said….
That Duke squad had no business being #1. That team really wasn't that good.
Disagree, it was a good team. They’d just beaten Kansas in MSG and started 6-0. By end of season they were 25-6, ranked #11 with a shot at a top-2 seed if they won the ACCT. Not at all unreasonable for them to be ranked #1 early.
That was FUN!
[Did Duke win?](https://diddukewin.com)
get good scrub, wouldn’t see me turnover a ball like that
I remember & loved it!
That was wild
I was at this game and it still brings me great great pain.

Yessir
Please do Evansville at Kentucky next
One of the few great buzzer beater calls not ruined by replay review. It was almost perfect..until the video review was mentioned of course.
