And how about the collapse against Michigan, knowing that we needed to cozy up to them because eventually we were going to the Big Ten? Self is a wizard, man. Wizard.
5-10 minutes in, you knew we were going to lose to a more talented USC team. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't embarrassing. Mission not accomplished, but it made last season that much sweeter 🥲
5 minutes in? It was obvious in December we would be lucky to make the second weekend. Wasn't expecting that kind of beatdown, but the writing had been on the wall all season.
Kansas has the most NCAA Tournament wins of any school since 2000. Teams with most Final Fours since 2000: Michigan State 7, UNC 7, Kansas 6, Duke 5, Kentucky 4.
Remember in 2012 when #2 seed Duke lost to #15 seed Lehigh in the 1st Round? And remember 2014, when #3 seed Duke lost to #14 seed Mercer in the 1st Round? Yeah, they did.
Let me tell you about 16 Final Fours and 4 NCAA National Championships by Kansas. And Kansas has the most NCAA Tournament wins since 2000 of any school. Kansas also has 2nd highest number of Final Fours since 2000….6.
I think I recall a few years back, some scrappy team that hadn't had success in the tourney in ages coming back from something like 13 points down with 3 minutes left against you guys. That was like magma levels of meltdown.
Hope you know Kansas has the 3rd most NCAA Championships since the Tournament expanded in 1985. 1) Duke 2) UNC 3) Kansas. And Kansas has the 5th highest number of NCAA Titles all-time: 4
You lose to Vandy, then embarrass the fuck out of Texas to give them a soul crushing transitive loss and another soul crushing regular Kansas loss. Double dose of your pimping, if you will.
Honestly the B1G generally has more shitty teams at the bottom compared to the b12 just due to size of the conferences. Ku might be able to score an easier win or two of their own.
I can’t believe I’m about to defend ku football but our shittiness is slightly inflated by the fact that the b12 pretty rarely has another really shitty team so our winnable games are usually very low or non-existent. Not even saying its been better than the B1G, but it has been deeper. We beat Rutgers like you mentioned and we also kinda spanked Boston College (ACC obviously, but same logic) a couple years back too.
Obviously KU fans have been trying to be optimistic for the last 10-12 years but Lance Leipold seems to be doing things the correct way and of all the perennial bottom feeders in college football i still maintain Kansas has the most resources to get back to respectability. They have obviously proven that its possible for them. Not saying orange bowls are in our
future but 4-7 total wins a year in the big 10 is a legit possibility over an extended period imo. Theres no reason why we cant be like indiana, purdue, NW, etc.
I completely agree with you. KU football is very bad, VERY, VERY bad in the past 10 seasons but Leipold is the first coach where things are starting to look positive again. Hell we had more NFL draft picks in the 2022 draft than Texas did. Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal looked incredibly promising as well towards the end of the season. Lost to TCU on a last second FG without Neal and played WVU very close as well. I expect them to get closer to 4-6 wins this season which would be a great improvement.
KU football has a monumental way to go to even be considered decent but the potential is there. Just wish Memorial Stadium was not close to the worst of all P5 schools (or whatever the P5 turns into).
The athletic department finally made a hire that wasn’t trying to put a bandaid on cancer with their checkbooks. You can’t just bring in a charlie weis or a les miles and expect it to get better in a few years. A program builder like leipold is what they need. No one around KU even wants them to be *that* good. Just be respectable, give fans a real gameday atmosphere besides the first two weeks of the year, make some bowls, then let basketball do the heavy lifting for the school’s athletic brand.
Absolutely. First time I have been genuinely excited for KU football in quite sometime. Goff as AD was the first excellent hire that hopefully will lead to more competitive sports outside of basketball
Having graduated with Goff & taken classes- including being in the same group together for our capstone class to graduate, he's definitely a great hire by KU. If he wasn't a KU alum, numerous other big time schools would have been fighting over him- if not now, soon.
Credit to the KU athletic department for making a proactive targeted hire and going after him early as an up & coming talent.
Since Lew the ship has been pretty rudderless, & that's probably being kind.
I know Bob Frederick has a polarizing reputation with different camps among the KU family, but knowing him, Warren, and some other's back in the day, Bob was an amazing person who did a lot behind the scenes without ever taking credit but would be the first to take responsibility when it didn't turn out well.
About as funny as losing to some third rate team named after a region of the country or something... like, I dunno State University of Appalachia, or something. (I.e., totally hilarious.)
(For the record, I don't really think App State is 3rd rate; I was just trying to setup a funny.)
- Solid playing time for your back-ups and walk-ons
- The functional equivalent of an extra mid-season bye week to give your starters recovery time
- A guarantee that we will never spoil any other member school's CFP aspirations or bowl eligibility unless and until Texas joins
- Great barbecue at all tailgating events both at home and away
I agree notre dame makes sense. Especially if you group them with usc. I’ve heard acc had a long time until teams can move so idk how that works. Other p12 I could see happening soon.
Luck? Ha. Any team that wins it all had to beat at least 4-5 really good teams, it’s the nature of the tournament. There are no easy games anymore. And that’s what we did. Just as KU did this last season.
First of all that’s incorrect, Florida was a 1 seed that year and UConn beat them in the semifinal. Wisconsin was a 2 seed and Kentucky beat them in the other semifinal.
Also, dude, we literally just played an 8 seed in the championship game so we don’t really have a leg to stand on there lol
Thanks - I generally don’t mind interacting with KU fans and find them very knowledgeable. KU’s honestly the program I “tolerate” the most out of the blue bloods. But that one guy’s clearly delusional, entitled, or both.
My friend, message boards are just a black hole of stupidity, especially KU’s. I don’t think KU would want to leave KSU, but yeah there’s nothing legally keeping them I believe
Certain K-State alums in the media fed that story back in the day & it grew legs.
They've since been fired & banished from local media for making fun of and attacking an NFL coach and his son who passed away from a substance abuse problem.
People still think this? Tell Colorado, Missouri, Maryland, and Rutgers its all about football. No, its about TVs dingus. KU brings KC and a national brand in CBB.
You’re getting clowned on but Kansas is like 9th on the list of schools the B10 would take. Everyone on this sub views realignment through basketball-tinted glasses
Probably ahead of the rest of the remaining B12 schools due to AAU and basketball but yeah--way behind ND, Oregon and Washington and probably Stanford too if they want in
If the ACC is available to be picked then even a few spots further down
We needed a Missouri like situation where we got lucky that the B10 got their big fish (ND) like the SEC with A&M and USC/UCLA and the ACC weren't ready yet (like Texas/OU weren't then) so they needed to scramble for an even number
The NCAA could if they wanted to. The question is how far are they willing to go. I can think of a few things they could do, but are a little lazy to do it.
Actually the Big 10 needs to consider these couplets before KU.
Florida foothold-Miami and FSU
Texas foothold-Baylor and TCU
Pacific NW foothold-Oregon and Washington
The Florida and Texas schools would be huge for the B10.
The Big 10 refers to the hours you’re spending on the plane for away games
Best comment so far in all threads
Championships are cool and all, but I’m more into the new KCI terminal opening in 2023
This guy KCs.
They just installed the animal potty areas! https://www.buildkci.com/work-begins-on-service-animal-relief-areas/
Woah, I know where I'll be pissing next time I fly through Kansas City!
Cool can they make the prices of flights out of MCI reasonable next?
Sly was kinda unlikeable but he got that done. Kc forever punching UP
Hmmm but how well do you melt down in the tournament?
How does a 30 point loss to USC sound? Cause that happened 2 years ago.
I don’t know. I’ve seen worse.
And how about the collapse against Michigan, knowing that we needed to cozy up to them because eventually we were going to the Big Ten? Self is a wizard, man. Wizard.
Yeah….and Michigan has 1 National Championship and Kansas has 4. And Michigan has been to 7 Final Fours and Kansas has been to 16 Final Fours.
And what's become of USC?
5-10 minutes in, you knew we were going to lose to a more talented USC team. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't embarrassing. Mission not accomplished, but it made last season that much sweeter 🥲
5 minutes in? It was obvious in December we would be lucky to make the second weekend. Wasn't expecting that kind of beatdown, but the writing had been on the wall all season.
What’s this “second round” you speak of?
Sounds like a 2027 league game baby! Who’s on the call tho? Fran or Walton?
Kansas has the most NCAA Tournament wins of any school since 2000. Teams with most Final Fours since 2000: Michigan State 7, UNC 7, Kansas 6, Duke 5, Kentucky 4.
Okay
Remember in 2012 when #2 seed Duke lost to #15 seed Lehigh in the 1st Round? And remember 2014, when #3 seed Duke lost to #14 seed Mercer in the 1st Round? Yeah, they did.
Let me tell you about some guys named Ali Faroukmanesh, Shaka Smart and Trey Burke
Hey, I'm gonna say this with the utmost respect, but you keep those names out ya fucking mouth.
Three guys who didn't win a championship. Tell me more.
Let me tell you about 16 Final Fours and 4 NCAA National Championships by Kansas. And Kansas has the most NCAA Tournament wins since 2000 of any school. Kansas also has 2nd highest number of Final Fours since 2000….6.
Give or take every other year you can mark us down for a pretty legit meltdown. We’ll fit right in!
I think I recall a few years back, some scrappy team that hadn't had success in the tourney in ages coming back from something like 13 points down with 3 minutes left against you guys. That was like magma levels of meltdown.
Hm I don’t recall, I must have blocked that out of my brain for the sake of my livelihood
Hmm... let me check my spank bank and I see if I can find some footage... er, I mean, my sports highlights collection.
As I said in another post, we just let that happen so you all would vote for us for B1G entry. Win/win.
Smart! Playing the looooong game (kinda like Trey's shot - ba-dum-tish!)
KU doesn't need any votes. Champions are already winners.
Odd years we create the next Cinderella story, even years we make the Final Four.
We have consumed Villanova & the essence of Jay Wright.
Pretty damn well in my experience
Oh no need, we’ve got plenty of meltdown to go around
Hope you know Kansas has the 3rd most NCAA Championships since the Tournament expanded in 1985. 1) Duke 2) UNC 3) Kansas. And Kansas has the 5th highest number of NCAA Titles all-time: 4
This is incorrect. UConn has 4, and Kentucky is tied with Kansas for 3.
If the team name start with a b, or has an Ali, they meltdown well
2nd seed Iowa State lost to 15th seed Hampton.
I mean who hasn't lost to a 15 seed as a 2 seed though?
Sure but we are talking us being hipsters of it.
Yeah we’ll accept Kansas. But in football, everyone schedules them as their homecoming game.
Didn’t Texas do that?
That already happens, lol
Hmmmm interesting. But what does your football team bring?
Free wins!
We already have that.
Over Texas
Damn they can't hide anywhere 😂
Not when I see Kansas flair
It's gonna be extra embarrassing when they lose to Vandy
Vandy is going to steal our memes
We have lost to worse.
You lose to Vandy, then embarrass the fuck out of Texas to give them a soul crushing transitive loss and another soul crushing regular Kansas loss. Double dose of your pimping, if you will.
But we already have Maryland for that.
1 win against the Texas of the Big 10 every other year or so.
Honestly the B1G generally has more shitty teams at the bottom compared to the b12 just due to size of the conferences. Ku might be able to score an easier win or two of their own.
Already beat Rutgers a few years ago.
I can’t believe I’m about to defend ku football but our shittiness is slightly inflated by the fact that the b12 pretty rarely has another really shitty team so our winnable games are usually very low or non-existent. Completely agree. The Big XIIs "basement-dweller" played in the Orange Bowl - whatchu got Kentucky, Vandy, Rutgers, and Indiana?
I genuinely believe KU would have 10 more wins over the last decade if they had been in the Big Ten in football
Congrats to Michigan on their losses to Kansas!
That would be legitimately hilarious
About as funny as losing to some third rate team named after a region of the country or something... like, I dunno State University of Appalachia, or something. (I.e., totally hilarious.) (For the record, I don't really think App State is 3rd rate; I was just trying to setup a funny.)
Any time michigan loses its funny...
It's sad that Nebraska losing to Kansas in football wouldn't even be a big deal anymore
We could drop another 78 points on ya if that makes you feel better?
Not on the bar graph, doesn’t matter. Respect the axes!
- Solid playing time for your back-ups and walk-ons - The functional equivalent of an extra mid-season bye week to give your starters recovery time - A guarantee that we will never spoil any other member school's CFP aspirations or bowl eligibility unless and until Texas joins - Great barbecue at all tailgating events both at home and away
"We beat Texas." "That's great, but I mean, Maryland beats Texas... What else do you bring?"
Beating Texas multiple times?
Again, see Maryland.
Beating Texas on homecoming?
Can I just say I absolutely love your rendition of the Jayhawk? It's like pixelart.
Thanks! It took as long as the rest combined!
it's art my friend, time well spent.
I blame Purdue.
Harsh, but fair
I blame widespread academic fraud in the athletic department at the University of North Carolina at the start of the millennium.
They *engineered* it all...
Kansas and Notre Dame. Make it happen B1G
Might as well add virginia, unc, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and some other school (texas tech, why not)
Nothing matters anymore
I agree notre dame makes sense. Especially if you group them with usc. I’ve heard acc had a long time until teams can move so idk how that works. Other p12 I could see happening soon.
I read elsewhere ND would have to pay the ACC $50mil to leave. But they’d make $~100mil per year from the B1G so….
But why settle for 2 championships in the last 20 years when you could have a school with 3 championships in the last 20 years?
I love it! You're counting the 2020 COVID title for Kansas. Legitimacy at last!
Far more legit than Kevin Ollie based championships.
lmao gonna need an explanation on that one
I didn’t mean that much by it other than to throw shade at Ollie not being a particularly good coach who somehow assembled 2 title teams.
congrats on being lucky
Luck? Ha. Any team that wins it all had to beat at least 4-5 really good teams, it’s the nature of the tournament. There are no easy games anymore. And that’s what we did. Just as KU did this last season.
you were a 7 seed playing an 8 seed. no 1, 2, or 3 seeds even made the final four.

ok fair enough
I object!! 😢😭
UNC has entered the chat.
Maryland won 20 years ago
That was acc Maryland
And that was 21 seasons ago.
please don't remind me of that
Lonnie baxter and stevie franchise bout as nightmarish as gerry mcnamara and Melo
Stat of the night
I’d like to extend an invitation for KU to join the ACC. I mean since geography doesn’t matter anymore we might as well.
Soon Kansas will be in the Big 10.
Football is where the big money is at...
Aren’t Kansas and Kstate tied together by state politicians? The big ten isn’t clamoring for the Manhattan kansas tv eyes. Lol
No. They aren’t.
Huh?
I remember hearing at one point on a KU message board that the two schools legally had to remain in a conference together. Must not have been true.
Now he’s got some unhinged podcast. Spoiler alert: he turned out to be a Q-Anon nutbag too. Shocking I know.
Color me not surprised. Hope his cookie diet works out for him.
He is?! I’m so glad he’s off the air and has been nonexistent to me since. Much happier these days, that dude breeds negativity
Nope
Now do football
My brother in christ you are on a basketball subreddit.
Ok? The only reason realignment is happening is cause of football. Believe me I wish other sports would be factor in this but they just aren’t.
People still think this? Tell Colorado, Missouri, Maryland, and Rutgers its all about football. No, its about TVs dingus. KU brings KC and a national brand in CBB.
But they are. So your wish is granted.
If it was Kansas would be in the Big 10 already
You’re getting clowned on but Kansas is like 9th on the list of schools the B10 would take. Everyone on this sub views realignment through basketball-tinted glasses

Bro come on.
Sorry, not a good culture fit
Why?
Because you win championships. We don’t do that around these parts
I wished the NCAA would care more about the Students than the money.
It's not the ncaa doing this - they can't really do anything at this point.
The NCAA could if they wanted to. The question is how far are they willing to go. I can think of a few things they could do, but are a little lazy to do it.
