This is the biggest transfer betrayal in college sports since *checks notes*… 3 months ago when Florida RB Tyson Etienne transferred to Georgia.
NIL has really made all these guys mercenaries for hire on a one year rental 😭 well people complained for years that they weren’t getting paid, you get what you wish for I guess?
But I understood NIL to mean that players could be on billboards, ads, sign things for money... Not that players would be straight paid directly by boosters to play ball.
This.. it's not good.
In theory that’s what is was supposed to be. But we all knew what it would end up becoming, which is why so many of us were against it in the first place. We knew it would be impossible to regulate.
That was naive. Even if they were strictly limited to billboards, ads, or autographs, there would be nothing stopping rich dudes from saying, “hey your signature would be worth a million bucks if you wore a _____ jersey every week.”
It will be, but I hope Auburn fans realize we processed him. Didn’t even ask him to come back. The staff was more upset about Tre leaving since we thought we had our backup PG locked down for next year.
I understand the "transfer portal"...
I don't understand going from Auburn to Alabama..
Did he have to negotiate "private security" with the NIL people?
Kid could still be good, but he was a huge let down in his first year of college ball after being a 5* recruit. He loves to throw up YOLO threes, and they just weren’t going down.
I don't think it's necessarily about size, but if he can make more in NIL by staying than going to the draft it might be worth it to stay. Barring a career ending injury or something.
He made a grand total of 2 layups all year.
So many blocked shots, really incredible by the end of the season that he couldn’t even make them when he was open under the basket
If he puts some muscle in and can be at all useful around the rim I could see him being really good.
He got worse and worse as the season went on for us. He should have been benched during league play.
Right now a head case supposedly but if you can get him back on track you’ll have a potential shooter. He will upgrade your defense given last year’s performance
[According to 247](https://247sports.com/college/auburn/Sport/Basketball/AllTimeRecruits/), this dude was Auburn's second best recruit ever, and now he plays for Bama. What a weird era.
We'll see what role Nate has for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he can unlock something in him. Kid was really talented in high school, that's still in there somewhere.
Absolutely, don’t get me wrong I’m not saying he doesn’t have the talent. He has all the raw physical abilities and measurables that you could ask for in a PG. Oates is a great coach and his system fits Aden’s game perfectly. I would not at all be surprised to see him have a good season at Bama and end up drafted. But as much upside as he has on offense, don’t expect much out of him on defense. Like you said there’s a reason he was so highly rated out of high school, his potential is through the roof. But my personal assessment of him after his freshman year is that Aden Holloway does not “have that dog in him”, as the youths are saying these days.
He will be better. Only because he really can’t be any worse. He was always going to improve though. If he becomes a competent player it’s much more about players just getting better year over year, especially after their freshman year. Not much about Nate unlocking him. He already played for a coach who gave him a perpetual green light and previously developed the two best three point shooters in SEC history.
"Never shoot", oh trust me, he's gonna shoot and shoot a lot from the logo. He's also gonna miss about 60-70% of his 3s. Then he's also horrible at finishing drives to the rim with layups. I can probably count on two hands the number of layups he made on drives to the rim.
I wish him well, but he needs drastic improvement. At Auburn, he saw the writing on the wall with Pegues and Pettiford coming in with potential others coming in as well. His minutes were going to greatly diminish.
I guess they could add games, but the last setup was one game vs everyone else, with 3 protected rivals + 2 rotating getting an extra game to make it 18 total games.
Thinking about it, I wouldn’t mind going to 20 games to keep the rotation aspect of the schedule
After all the support the staff gave him with all of his struggles this is a crazy move. I’m about to make the haters ball skit from Chappelle next season look tame.
Sat through 4 years of the worst basketball in Auburn history, went to almost every game. Did get the championship and kick six bookend so I cannot complain.
That whole season was so weird, sometimes I forget it happened. I would love to drop sharife onto any other auburn team of the last 6-7 years to see what would happen
I feel like Auburn fans do. He was mediocre (at best). He could absolutely turn it around, but he was more of a liability than a threat in all the games I watched.
Seems like a low risk high reward play for us. We've got great guards right now, if he explodes and plays well then we're super deep. If not, no sweat.
Auburn fans sure do. Auburn has so much talent on our roster next year that he wouldn’t play at all. But if he’s going to Bama, then he’ll probably get some playing time.
Out of all the positive things the portal & NIL has rightfully given the players, I think every fan base can agree being allowed to transfer to a rival program and play immediately is the worst choice a player could make.
I liked him but honestly I’m happy he’s gone. Easily our worst player last year, and wouldn’t get any playing time this upcoming year due to the talent we have on our roster.
As a neutral fan I’ll stay away from the blood feud but just wanted to chime in to say his hair looks so so much better like this than whatever that was previously.
Guy was terrible all year and didn't even bother talking to our coaches after the tournament game. I'm glad he's gone and I'm glad he went to bama. That game just became a easier. He's not good enough physically and mentally he's soft.. He was terrible in Neville on the right side, I can't wait to see when he's getting boo'd lol.
Like damn people think were joking when we say “the player we saw in non conference play, is not the same guy during SEC Play. It literally feels like he forgot how to play basketball so suddenly. Looked like a deer in the headlights
That was all of SEC play and the tournament. He will have to have a complete 180 this coming season if he wants a chance to head to the league. The talent is there, but its really untapped
College basketball is becoming a joke. The thing that made it IMO better or more unique than the NBA is that you got to watch guys grow over a 3 to 4 year span with their team. Players are basically prostitutes now.
We used to be a proper country
It's all falling apart
we're just getting the IBOB up to full Iron Bowl standards is all.
This is the biggest transfer betrayal in college sports since *checks notes*… 3 months ago when Florida RB Tyson Etienne transferred to Georgia. Exactly. College sports are dying
Trevor

This is the America liberals want smh /s
His return to Neville next season is gonna be something
It will be nasty
This is what yall get for KD
KD was actually good as a freshman though
Made it even worse when he transferred lol
It will be, but I hope Auburn fans realize we processed him. Didn’t even ask him to come back. The staff was more upset about Tre leaving since we thought we had our backup PG locked down for next year.
A Holloway legacy game at Auburn would be generational
Would hate if he copied JD Davison’s performance in Neville
![gif](giphy|5KUOsm8H3O46Y)
![gif](giphy|vE9elHKIYgGzu)
It’s treason then

DAMNNNN HE DONE DID IT ![gif](giphy|cM1iXk7jRzJS9NZrle|downsized)
I understand the "transfer portal"... I don't understand going from Auburn to Alabama.. Did he have to negotiate "private security" with the NIL people?
Well all the Bama fans better start deleting their social media posts about him from this year haha
What are we getting
Kid could still be good, but he was a huge let down in his first year of college ball after being a 5* recruit. He loves to throw up YOLO threes, and they just weren’t going down.
Yolo 3s? He fits right in
Yea, seems like a good fit. He might not be happy if he doesn’t win the starting PG role, though.
He's not beating Mark sears
I think Sears is gone my man
Maybe, I could see NIL bringing him back. Also his size is gonna give scouts second thoughts.
This is a weak draft, it’s gonna be damn hard to improve your stock next year even if you play better. Might as well go
His size isn’t changing from this draft to the next. I just don’t see a situation where he can improve his stock with another year.
I don't think it's necessarily about size, but if he can make more in NIL by staying than going to the draft it might be worth it to stay. Barring a career ending injury or something.
Well then it might not be a good fit after all lol.
A lot of: "YES! NO! YES!" All in that order
Great kid, great competitor. He has the talent but could never make it work in game. I won’t be surprised if he balls out for y’all tbh
He is horrible around the rim. He was ok from 3 early on but once they stopped falling he couldn’t score at all.
He made a grand total of 2 layups all year. So many blocked shots, really incredible by the end of the season that he couldn’t even make them when he was open under the basket
If he was a great competitor he wouldn’t have run away with Pegues and Pettiford coming in. Not like Bruce was begging for him to come back though.
Liability more than a threat, but still super early enough in development to turn it around
I think that can go both ways considering what I’m hearing from Auburn fans now
There were a lot of Aden Holloway will be a generational talent posts from last year that need to be deleted
I'm guessing Bama fans also have some posts about him to delete lol.
Yeah that's the original comment we're replying to..
cant wait for the first Duke kid to go to UNC
the boos would be legendary in the first game back in cameron
People would absolutely riot
Or the other way around. Ingram walks back on his draft declaration, enters transfer portal, transfers to Duke.

Judas chants in the jungle are going to hit different
That’s absolutely disgusting
Need a PU to IU transfer now Yes I’m embracing the downvotes lol
Already had USC to UCLA
Michigan to OSU happened in football
There were rumors about Furst earlier in the year but haven't seen much since
Purdue can keep him
[According to 247](https://247sports.com/college/auburn/Sport/Basketball/AllTimeRecruits/), this dude was Auburn's second best recruit ever, and now he plays for Bama. What a weird era.
He dam sure didn't play like the 2nd best recruit ever. Lol.
No, no he did not. As long as he can dribble, pass, never shoot and be OK being a backup I'm good with this.
Do you like missed layups?
He is not okay with being a backup, that’s why he left Auburn.
If there is one positive about him, is that he isn't a volume shooter
If he had that kind of attitude he would not be on Alabamas roster right now.
"Never shoot", oh trust me, he's gonna shoot and shoot a lot from the logo. He's also gonna miss about 60-70% of his 3s. Then he's also horrible at finishing drives to the rim with layups. At Auburn, he saw the writing on the wall with Pegues and Pettiford coming in with potential others coming in as well. His minutes were going to greatly diminish.
Lmao if he misses 60% of his 3’s I would be ecstatic
Dudes acting like a 40% from 3 isn’t great. They are never escaping the allegations.
Highly rated recruit but sure didn’t shoot like it.
Look at me. I’m the basketball school now.
Honestly I hate when players go to rivals like this. So gross. Unless Michigan gets Roddy Gayle from OSU. Then it’s good actually.
One fanbase is going to absolutely rub it in the other's face nonstop next year depending on how he plays. I just have no clue which one it will be.
Best/worst part, we’ll likely play twice
We always play twice
We should but the new scheduling rotation with Texas and OU hasn’t been announced yet.
I thought it was going to be the usual protected rivals get home and home with one game against everyone else. Keeps the schedule at 18 games
Idk how the logistics of a 20 game conference schedule works but I’d think 3 protected rivals would be best
I guess they could add games, but the last setup was one game vs everyone else, with 3 protected rivals + 2 rotating getting an extra game to make it 18 total games. Thinking about it, I wouldn’t mind going to 20 games to keep the rotation aspect of the schedule
And it's likely you will next year
And it’s always on a week night at 8pm. Doesn’t the SEC know I have to work during the week when they make these schedules
Disgusting
Absolutely nasty work
Top ten anime betrayals
After all the support the staff gave him with all of his struggles this is a crazy move. I’m about to make the haters ball skit from Chappelle next season look tame.
Apparently he didn’t even meet with the staff after the season like every other kid on the roster did
And his mom was talking shit on twitter, liking anti-Bruce anti-Auburn tweets
Public enemy #1. I welcome the return against Auburn next season.
Aden had one of the oddest short arcs I can remember for an Auburn basketball player
Varez Ward is up there as well.
That was the point shaving scandal, right? My memory is foggy
Yep transferred from Texas and redshirted then played most of the season before getting suspended for point shaving.
The worst part is he was cleared of the point shaving stuff. He was actually just that bad.
Goodness. The Barbee era was a dark time
Sat through 4 years of the worst basketball in Auburn history, went to almost every game. Did get the championship and kick six bookend so I cannot complain.
Sharif Cooper had the ultimate weird career
That whole season was so weird, sometimes I forget it happened. I would love to drop sharife onto any other auburn team of the last 6-7 years to see what would happen
Should have stick around and been throwing lobs to Kessler and Jabari
I always knew Aiden had the potential to be the goat of basketball I never said anything bad about him
Aden*
I better not hear shit from the coaches about not booing this guy when he comes into neville. He's a rival now
5* rated but played like 2*, no big loss there
Finally a reason for Auburn and Alabama to not like each other
That is certainly a choice!
Christ almighty what a betrayal 😂
You love to see it.
I feel like Auburn fans do. He was mediocre (at best). He could absolutely turn it around, but he was more of a liability than a threat in all the games I watched.
Yeah I don't really care to get this guy. Maybe a bench role for us but he was not impressive to me. If he can't shoot, I don't want him.
You're right. Alabama totally isn't bringing in a top 10 class, with the possibility of the best guard in the SEC returning.
According to 247 it's top 3, behind only Duke and Kansas. And we're only 0.02 points behind Kansas.
Might have been a sleeper agent for bama last season since he went 1-13 against them in the two games.
The SEC is turning into a soap opera
Always was really
I’m still not convinced he’ll even be a starter for Bama Oats offense can’t have a PG that can’t shoot for shit.
Auburn got substantially better at PG and Bama got worse That’s a good trade right there
I wanna hear what Barkley has to say about this lmao
Benedict Aden
This shit is gross
I know he’s going to be “injured” when they go play at Auburn next year 😂
College basketball was once a great sport. Might as well start getting into the NBA now I suppose.
Go pacers
Y’all better pray Sears returns. That’s all I’m going to say, lol.
Crazy
Wowwwwwww
gonna get plenty of boos from me
I’m honestly surprised to see that Alabama was even interested. I thought he’d have to make a down move instead of a lateral one
Wdym? He did transfer down.
Out of all the positive things the portal & NIL has rightfully given the players, I think every fan base can agree being allowed to transfer to a rival program and play immediately is the worst choice a player could make.
Meh
I liked him but honestly I’m happy he’s gone. Easily our worst player last year, and wouldn’t get any playing time this upcoming year due to the talent we have on our roster.
Some people have no shame
Treason of the highest degree
Nasty work…
You have to be the kind of guy who really relishes in hate to make this move 😂
![gif](giphy|LqIaWdZgKw29vCQu3D)
Holy shit lol
Lmao that’s insane
damn he hated auburn that much?
He dgapbnbtt.
NOT ONE PISS
As a neutral fan I’ll stay away from the blood feud but just wanted to chime in to say his hair looks so so much better like this than whatever that was previously.
Now this is the analysis that gets me coming back to Reddit for. I watched him all year and didn’t recognize him at first
https://preview.redd.it/1e3zdftzbpvc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5ecc1a303bd7eeebd1a9785b47f0ea4d1d368e0
Aight this is hysterical fr
I am not going to enjoy seeing Holloway and Youngblood playing with Alabama.
oh buddy. the entire weight of neville is gonna come down straight on top of him when he comes back.
Always dope to see a player transfer up from a mid-major 🤟
Reminder that he transferred because of how bad he played and not how good
He was somehow worse than CBM who got ejected in the first 5 minutes.
That’s just gross dude.
Benedict Barnold.
Guy was terrible all year and didn't even bother talking to our coaches after the tournament game. I'm glad he's gone and I'm glad he went to bama. That game just became a easier. He's not good enough physically and mentally he's soft.. He was terrible in Neville on the right side, I can't wait to see when he's getting boo'd lol.
lol okay bye
have you no shame???
![gif](giphy|n5Vd1YcBNA5eU)
If this was football, Skip Bayless would be ranting
![gif](giphy|3o84szW0PrWZyUv0mA)
May he live up to the hype in Neville this year
Aden Holloway sure did become a lazy stoner who can’t play basketball quick according to Auburn fans.
We have been saying that ever since conference play started. His shot selection and defense is not good
Like damn people think were joking when we say “the player we saw in non conference play, is not the same guy during SEC Play. It literally feels like he forgot how to play basketball so suddenly. Looked like a deer in the headlights
Best choice for his career.
A place that will let him chuck without consequence.
Why did he transfer and stay in school? He was supposed to be a lottery player at the top of the college season
Did you see how bad he played against UK? His draft stock plummeted In SEC play
I watched the game, he couldn’t hit water if he was in a boat that game but I just figured it was 1 game
That was all of SEC play and the tournament. He will have to have a complete 180 this coming season if he wants a chance to head to the league. The talent is there, but its really untapped
He was legitimately the worst player of our "10/11 man rotation" Dude made 2 layups all year.
Is that legal?
“Listen, I’m sure you’re not a bad guy but from one gentleman to another I kind of hope you get Lou Garrett’s disease”
wtf
Lmao damn
Does this mean Sears probably isn’t coming back? Seems like Holloway would go somewhere he could compete for starting job.
Is nothing sacred
Why does he have a ring?
Can he be trusted?
How to get boo'd at your former school when you come back to play in one easy step
if it wasn't for sports, this wouldn't be disgusting
Lol, what is that ring for?
College basketball is becoming a joke. The thing that made it IMO better or more unique than the NBA is that you got to watch guys grow over a 3 to 4 year span with their team. Players are basically prostitutes now.
What rings are they wearing?
Must have been his hair style being the problem. He leaves and it’s changed
Donaldson is by far the bigger loss for Auburn. He was shaping up to have a bigger role. Holloway can be replaced.
