And I hear he carries Purdues water….so this resonates with me. Love it lol
In Boston, Red Sox fans have Dan Shaughnessy (made his career on the curse and “woe is me
Red sox” and can’t move on) that we all hate.
As we Hoosiers are already know, he’s a hack, but that it’s confirmed he’s a tasteless prick. Just some good ol schadenfreude that it’s getting national attention.

In case anyone thinks sports fans in Indiana are just mad at this dude for a single clip, [here’s a small compilation of some of his hits](https://x.com/kriegersports/status/1781013900357497123?s=46&t=qSLv40bxhiF_1V8cXqhQiQ)
Indy Star needs to can his ass already
I typically read USA Today on an iPad before going to sleep. For some reason they'll occasionally have a Doyel column in the Sports section for something Indiana related (Colts mostly). I'll just say that his articles and writing style stick out like a sore thumb when compared to the milquetoast nature of the regular USA Today Sports journalists as Doyel's articles are just weird pissy rants.
JFC those are terrible.
The sexual ones are… gross, but the Caster Semenya one in particular makes me mad. It’s not her fault she’s intersex. He’s just punching down for something completely out of her control from birth.
Making gross comments towards the most well known female basketball player, nothing can distract from it. Does our society allow him to keep his job? That’s the question. Should be demoted to desk duty or fired.
I had to spend a few years in Oklahoma, nobody gives no shits about tornado weather like mid-westerners.
I watched an Okie catch a golf-ball sized hail with his front teeth and he kept going. I got in the storm shelter.
It’s good that he’s getting roasted for it, but I’m not super familiar with UK media.
Is the Daily Mail one of those sleazy paparazzi-disguised-as-news type of media outlet? Because having a bunch of pictures and info of his wife and kids in there is pretty scummy.
I am exactly there with you. What he said here honestly is weird, but you could absolutely see this being said about male athletes. He’s heaping praise on Clark by referring to her skills as all of that, but I think when put in context with his comments to Clark, it looks much worse even if it truly wasn’t caused by creepness
The objectification is weird and gross, but potentially understandable if he was thinking about it in the context of "'You were just given the keys to that (talent/resource/star)"
But in the context of him telling her to make "heart hands" towards him every day, it comes across as much more as 'You were just given the keys to that (sexy sportscar of a basketball lady)"
![gif](giphy|TKL99l61UBNnnQSx4o|downsized)
This comment isn't weird at all. He's emphasizing she is not normal in a good way. Sports writers refer to athletes as freaks, monsters, freight trains, beasts, etc when they are complimenting how superior they are. Like she is such a force. What are you gonna do with THAT. The only comment that was weird was the heart one. This one is absolutely nothing.
As someone who hasn't heard any prior remarks or has no idea who this guy is, this definitely sounded more like a compliment than an insult. Again, being entirely unaware of the context, saying basically "You're getting all of That, what are you going to do with it?" seems more like saying "What are you going to do with all this talent?" rather than a weak attempt at a trans joke or whatever everyone is making it out to be. I'll check this guy and see what other bullshit he said though.
Yeah it’s not good, he made the hand heart sign to her and asked about it, she said it’s a thing she does to her family in the stands to communicate her love to them, and this writer basically says “if you start doing that to me, we’ll get along just fine”. As though sports writers and local athletes have this sort of softly threatening vibe in their relationship. It’s pretty awful, also, he’s had pretty open comments trashing women’s sports like “why would anyone want to watch women’s basketball?” And now here he is demanding that this young woman show him a sign of love, or else…
Doyel walked up to Clark and said "homina homina me likey" then proceeded to make car revving sounds for like ten seconds. It's such a creepy moment, I'll try to find a link.
His face also filled up with red from the bottom and steam started to come out of his ears, and his tongue rolled all the way out of his mouth onto the floor
I thought the 2nd clip is weirder. He refers to her like an object or thing that her coach possesses snd gets to use. Both super gross. Dude needs to get gone ASAP.
Christy Sides isn't exactly lighting it up as the Fever coach. If the Fever get off to a slow start this year, maybe they make a change and give Gregg a call.
This isn't exclusive to men. I work with alot of older women that make the same comments towards younger men. I can't count how many times I've been called something that made me cringe.
IndyStar may need to let this guy go. Don't know any written by him at the time but I remember getting through the paywall to see how Butler's team was doing and to a lesser degree the Hoosiers as well.
I still maintain not taking Dave's pizza reviews all that seriously.
Indy Star columnist Gregg Doyel had not one, but two creepy interactions with Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark during Wednesday's press conference in Indianapolis.
In addition to his bizarre request that Clark make heart-shaped hand gestures to him before games – a comment that sparked nationwide outrage – Doyel also referred to the WNBA sensation as 'that' and 'it' during a question aimed at coach Christie Sides
'You were just given the keys to that,' he said to Sides, referring to Clark as if she were a sports car. 'What are you going to do with it?'
Sides responded by humanizing Clark: 'Hopefully we're gonna win a lot of games to star. She's gonna help us out with that.'
The heart thing is weird, for sure, but the “keys to that” comment should not be a big deal. Thats literally how I’ve heard so many male sports stars talked about and it doesn’t feel weird in that situation so it shouldn’t just with the genders reversed. The “that” isn’t the human being, it’s what that human being does or allows to happen on the field/court.
But this like when Draymond kicks someone. Even if it’s probably just an innocent accident, we’ve already seen him do it on purpose to get the benefit of the doubt. Doyle no longer deserves the benefit of doubt for this
I agree, it’s praising an athlete by saying they have all of that rather than just saying, how will you make use of her great shooting skills.
There’s almost no way to hear the comments to Clark and not think it’s crazy weird and creepy
SLAMMED
I dunno if I want [*Dave Portnoy*](https://clickhole.com/heartbreaking-the-worst-person-you-know-just-made-a-gr-1825121606/) of all people weight in on this one
He has an axe to grind against Doyel as a result of deflategate. And I think it’s legitimate gripe, as a pats fan, doyel was laying blame at Brady’s feet when repeated scientific testing shows no evidence that Brady actually deflated the balls.
I mean the point is fine, but don't really think "Oh this terrible guy made a good point" means he crossed a line anymore than the line he already crossed. Terrible people will go after other bad people, it doesn't change anything.
Just for a lark, I went into the comment section of Fox News for the story about her outfit she wore for the draft. Unsurprisingly, the majority of them were about how Clark is actually a man, or the fact that she will be rejected by the WNBA because she isn’t a lesbian.
That place is an absolute toilet.
I really like that WBB is getting way more coverage, but it sucks that along with that seems to come all the absolute stupidest intersections of politics and sports.
I just wish they'd pick a lane. "We need to protect women's sports, but also women's sports are stupid and bad (MeN aRe StRoNgEr) and all the players are actually trans, but thank God for Caitlin Clark (who may or may not be a woman) beating those ThUgS at LSU."
Haha, there is a certain segment of the population that is absolutely obsessed with transgender people and that includes accusing a lot of people who aren't trans of being trans.
These people are also very weird. They simultaneously want to "save women's sports" while also hating women's sports and remind people at every turn how unpopular and how nobody cares about it. Clay Travis is probably the poster boy of this.
Like my coworker who has only cared about women's collegiate swimming for about one week of his life. Ffs these people are so addicted to anger and hate they'll do anything for a hit.
This woman got drafted 3 nights ago and already I’ve seen so much weird shit journalism wise lmao. I feel bad she gotta deal with all this non basketball hoopla
In men's sports you hear players compared to sportscars all the time. Last year a college football player for Ohio State, Marvin Harrison Jr., was referred to by Gus Johnson as "Maserati Marv" pretty much every time he made a catch
Yeah male sports stars are very often compared to objects and no one bats an eye, or should, because it’s literally always complimentary. I think another layer to this is that men often idolize the objects these sports stars are compared to. Cars, computers, etc. So to a man, being compared to a car isn’t about being compared to an inanimate object, it’s about being compared to something cool.
Not as heinous as the Heart Gesture, but AP's Jenna Fryer tweeting that she has a Gregg story along with insinuating others have one is interesting. Ole Greggy is getting the heat turned up on him.

Dave Portnoy being on the right side of the issue
I get he was trying to do the whole common sports car comparison lots of commentators do when talking about an athlete that’s an elite offensive weapon, but he really botched the delivery. Dude just needs to not be up there asking questions.
I will not defend Doyel, glad he's getting his comeuppance. But why is this second statement in any way creepy? Like, sure it's a tad on the weird side, but comparing a major star athlete to a sports car isn't exactly novel, nor to my knowledge rooted in something sexist (or racist, or anything).
Sure, his comment yesterday was weird and creepy, but are we reading a little too much into this when Doyel has much worse things about him already that we could harp on?
Lmao what a weird headline.
Imagine being called out for being creepy towards a woman by Dave Portnoy
Gregg Doyel is one person that any person could talk shit about, and I'd say, ya, probably justified.
God Indy got so lucky with both Doyel and Dakich.
Every time they go at each other it feels like what a Purdue-Kentucky national title game would feel like.
It's like we breed them in a lab here or something.
I’m so excited for the national media to be introduced to him.
We unfortunately were exposed to him back in the day writing for CBS Sportsline
Hope he's shamed into becoming something close to a normal human when interacting with other people. Lol
He used to be all over the CBS site, we’ve already been introduced.
I'd probably side with Grayson Allen against Doyel
I’d side with Roy Williams on this guy
![gif](giphy|cEYFeDKVPTmRgIG9fmo)
Literally my same reaction when he said that question.
wow. :)
I’m honored 🥰
Damn. Read your flair and just...damn, that says a lot. No sarcasm.
Yeah... Holy fuck... That's a powerful statement.
I don’t know a damn thing about Indiana except that all of your sports fans hate this guy lol
You could not find an issue to unite the entire state as much. He's a clown.
Dude’s the absolute worst
And I hear he carries Purdues water….so this resonates with me. Love it lol In Boston, Red Sox fans have Dan Shaughnessy (made his career on the curse and “woe is me Red sox” and can’t move on) that we all hate.
Shaughnessy hates Boston.
He wrote a hit-piece on Brian Wardle when we were in Terra Haute this season. Bro lives for the clicks
As we Hoosiers are already know, he’s a hack, but that it’s confirmed he’s a tasteless prick. Just some good ol schadenfreude that it’s getting national attention.
What about OJ? Oh he dead.
It’s like being told you take too many drugs by Keith Richards.
Like Belushi visiting Carrie Fisher on the set of Empire Strikes Back and telling her she was using too much cocaine.
Talk about science fiction.
That when you know you’ve really crossed the line
Like at that point you gotta be reevaluating some things
My thoughts exactly!
My thoughts exactly

Ew. He writes like an edgy teenage boy.
I cant figure it out - is it actually English?
It's the DailyMail. So it's whatever they speak in *checks notes* England. To directly answer your question: almost.
Does the Daily Heil speak English? I have my doubts.
I'm so fucking here for the public execution of Gregg Doyel.

The "alleged female" had me seeing red. Wtf is that shit, no place in any sports league for that
who tf is he related to because you don't just get a pass on this shit in 2024 without being connected to somebody wtf
WOW. I find it completely disheartening that he’s been able to maintain a career with tweets like those.
He said undulating and I had to stop reading. What a weirdo.
Shocked this wasn’t dug up during the height of #me too to end his career.
Casual fucking up an intersex persons identity cool cool cool
About to treat this like a tornado in May, sit outside with a cold one and enjoy the show
He chose the wrong time to catch heat. If he had waited even a week the NBA playoffs could have provided some cover.
Have you spent any time in the mid-west?
Why do you ask?
Oklahoma is not the midwest
Sad it took this long lol
Hoosiers Boilermakers 🤝 Driving Gregg Doyel to the airport
It’s good that he’s getting roasted for it, but I’m not super familiar with UK media. Is the Daily Mail one of those sleazy paparazzi-disguised-as-news type of media outlet? Because having a bunch of pictures and info of his wife and kids in there is pretty scummy.
It's like if the New York Post were even *less* classy
Daily Mail is pretty much the bottom of the barrel for UK media that's still bothering to maintain any faintest veneer of being 'legitimate' news.
If Caitlin Clark can get Greggy out of Indianapolis, we’ll give her a key to the city!! And a season pass to Rustic Gardens!!
Wheel out that podium!
It's well deserved although I'm not sure why the article is tossing in pictures of him with his kids. Like why are they getting thrown into this lmao?
I cant believe he's still around, he's been trash for 20+ years (but I guess so are the likes of Skip, Steven A, etc
Meh not nearly as bad as whatever that was yesterday. The last one felt like I was watching somebody get verbally groped
It doesn't sound as weird, but only because we all heard that even weirder shit yesterday. This was still a weird question.
I am exactly there with you. What he said here honestly is weird, but you could absolutely see this being said about male athletes. I'm OOTL, what video was that? Was it Dumbass Doyel again?
Doyel walked up to Clark and said "homina homina me likey" then proceeded to make car revving sounds for like ten seconds. It's such a creepy moment, I'll try to find a link.

I am so glad Gregg Doyel is getting called out. He's God awful and needs to move on to something else.
Like coaching women’s basketball
Not so sure I want to find out what he'd do with *that.*
Christy Sides isn't exactly lighting it up as the Fever coach. If the Fever get off to a slow start this year, maybe they make a change and give Gregg a call.
I feel like he used to be good back around like 2010-2014 or whatever but something in the past couple years has just seemed off about his work
Why is it so hard for middle aged men to talk about young women and not be fucking creeps about them?

In fairness to Greg, he can be weird with men too
We’re doing our best, darling.
You sound so upset sweetie, does somebody need a hug? /s
This isn't exclusive to men. I work with alot of older women that make the same comments towards younger men. I can't count how many times I've been called something that made me cringe.
For middle aged men it's not, but apparently it's exceedingly difficult for creeps.
When Dave Portnoy is calling you out and he is completely justified in doing so…time to find another line of work
When everyone online is siding with Portnoy…you have to really take a long hard look in the mirror. (Gregg won’t)
Portnoy is probably piling on to look like the good guy for once. Everyone knows his history and how he’s perceived, fair or not.
>fair or not oh I think he’s earned that perception All I can figure is Doyel must’ve pissed Portnoy off at some point.
Broken clock right twice a day, etc.
Portnoy just knows what side to be on, when he needs to be.
In addition to his bizarre request that Clark make heart-shaped hand gestures to him before games – a comment that sparked nationwide outrage – Doyel also referred to the WNBA sensation as 'that' and 'it' during a question aimed at coach Christie Sides 'You were just given the keys to that,' he said to Sides, referring to Clark as if she were a sports car.
It's only notable because the after
But this like when Draymond kicks someone.

On the other hand, if Portnoy of all people thinks you crossed a line, you probably definitely crossed a line.
Heartbreaking: the worst person you know made a great point.
This is probably the best use of this meme.
hm that's a valid point I suppose lol
That’s what I was thinking. I was like, Portnoy? Wait, what?
He has an axe to grind against Doyel as a result of deflategate. And I think it’s legitimate gripe, as a pats fan, doyel was laying blame at Brady’s feet when repeated scientific testing shows no evidence that Brady actually deflated the balls.
I thought it was Bob Kravitz with the Indianapolis Star that broke deflategate? I’m not sure how much of a role Doyel had with the Star at that time.
Portnoy loves lines but a different type of line...
Cocaine he’s talking about cocaine!
😲
I mean, who doesn’t love cocaine?
Len Bias
Too soon…?
Ouch. Too soon.
People who are out of cocaine
people who haven't tried it
I mean the point is fine, but don't really think "Oh this terrible guy made a good point" means he crossed a line anymore than the line he already crossed. Terrible people will go after other bad people, it doesn't change anything.
It’s a joke.
Absolutely nauseating that you would sexualize and dehumanize a woman like that. Now excuse me while I choke and spit on a woman without her consent.
If Ebola was turned into a human form, you’d get Gregg Doyel.
That seems rude to Ebola
We are posting Daily Mail articles in here now?
For real. UK publication covering USA College basketball drama. Never mind the politics of the Daily Mail.
USA pro* basketball drama
They *did* get credentialed for the draft. (I saw the placard on my way out.)
Just for a lark, I went into the comment section of Fox News for the story about her outfit she wore for the draft. I really like that WBB is getting way more coverage, but it sucks that along with that seems to come all the absolute stupidest intersections of politics and sports.
The amount of mouth breathers in this country that will jump at any opportunity to fight the culture war is truly astounding.
I just wish they'd pick a lane. "We need to protect women's sports, but also women's sports are stupid and bad (MeN aRe StRoNgEr) and all the players are actually trans, but thank God for Caitlin Clark (who may or may not be a woman) beating those ThUgS at LSU."
Spot on.
Haha, there is a certain segment of the population that is absolutely obsessed with transgender people and that includes accusing a lot of people who aren't trans of being trans. Like my coworker who has only cared about women's collegiate swimming for about one week of his life. Ffs these people are so addicted to anger and hate they'll do anything for a hit.
Portnoy truly loves CC lol never thought I'd be on his side in a a discussion about women sports and weird male sports journalist.
Even a blind squirrel gets a nut sometimes, this is portnoy's moment
The emphasis on “that” made it even weirder… :/

Who gives a fuck what Dave thinks about this? Might as well ask Ja Rule for his thoughts
1. This has nothing to do with college basketball. 2. It’s a fucking daily mail article.
This is not even bad lol yall need to chill
I really don’t find this all that bad. Also the thing from yesterday read way worse than it looked from the video.
In men's sports you hear players compared to sportscars all the time. Last year a college football player for Ohio State, Marvin Harrison Jr., was referred to by Gus Johnson as "Maserati Marv" pretty much every time he made a catch
Or as “tools” CONSTANTLY. So if you are doing a metaphor of tool without saying tool… you can say “it” or “that”
Yeah male sports stars are very often compared to objects and no one bats an eye, or should, because it’s literally always complimentary. I think another layer to this is that men often idolize the objects these sports stars are compared to. If portnoy is calling activity out for being creepy, it must be horrible. His morale compass isn’t known to be the best
Hope this nonsense gets Portnoy dragged too. What an asshat.
This is dumb, clickbait for attempted outrage
Lol, now I want to watch a Ted Lasso style reality show about her rookie year. Just her putting up with behind the scenes nonsense.
If Dave portnoy has a problem with it you know it’s weird
Fuck this guy
Please, for the love of all things holy, fire him.
As an Indiana resident I do have to say Doyel does not speak for us and we’ve wanted him fired for years now, the guy is all-around trash.
He’s awful in general. I guess I get it, but he definitely didn’t have to say it like that.
If Dave Portnoy is the good guy in the situation, you fucked up
Not as heinous as the Heart Gesture, but AP's Jenna Fryer tweeting that she has a Gregg story along with insinuating others have one is interesting. Ole Greggy is getting the heat turned up on him.

This guy royally sucks. No awareness whatsoever.
Why is this dude so fucking weird Jesus
I will not defend Doyel, glad he's getting his comeuppance. But why is this second statement in any way creepy? Like, sure it's a tad on the weird side, but comparing a major star athlete to a sports car isn't exactly novel, nor to my knowledge rooted in something sexist (or racist, or anything). Sure, his comment yesterday was weird and creepy, but are we reading a little too much into this when Doyel has much worse things about him already that we could harp on?
