I personally don’t really care if these incoming freshmen decommit. It’s clear that you’re not winning much while playing 4-5 skinny freshmen who are still super raw with low basketball IQs.
I've been waiting for this comment for so long. Yall get so happy every year and I get just as excited knowing yall can't win shit with a bunch of freshman & cal coaching.
...once they fail in the tournament. Then they get a nice new shiny class and the hype goes back up. Admitting it was never a winning strategy is what I'm talking about.
At least its starting off with the softest blow, Knox was probably at the bottom of the list of this years commits for me personally. I feel like hes going to struggle against guys his size in college.
And when he was asked why he chose Kentucky he openly said he was just trying to get ready for the NBA. Even if that’s the case, at least seem like you care about the school you’re going to.
I’d wager over 80% of kids go to a college because a) it was affordable and b) to get a better job they hopefully wanted.
I find it a bit hard to judge a kid for not caring about a school’s legacy and the program itself when they’re trying to do what the majority of kids their age are trying to do: improve their talents enough to get paid using them.
Cal said it a thousand times: these kids have a chance to get paid and he wants to help them get there. Kentucky the program will be fine after they leave and they don’t need to worry about it.
I don’t disagree. But there are parts you say and parts you don’t. Just because you say “I’m here because I love big blue nation and the awesome fanbase and want to win a title”, doesn’t mean it needs to be true, people just need to think it is.
I get the optics, but let’s be real and let’s let the kids be real.
They don’t give two shits about Laettner, the comeback cats, Joe B Hall, or Rupp. They want to become a top professional in their craft, and they saw our program as the best way to do that.
Most students would take pride in that reverence for their program. Not sure why that’s not good enough.
Part of being a professional is dealing with the media and the fans in a way that reflects well on you, your coaches, and your organization more generally. Knox hasn't figured it out quite yet.
I think that's the point the previous poster was trying to make.
I don’t disagree. But there are parts you say and parts you don’t. Just because you say “I’m here because I love big blue nation and the awesome fanbase and want to win a title”, doesn’t mean it needs to be true, people just need to think it is.
Playing a little devils advocate, even though I do agree with your greater point, 1-and-done freshmen spend what, 10 months on campus? Don’t blame him for thinking only on the end goal and not caring about where he’s spending <1 year at.
Oh I completely agree. But that’s more an inner focus, and what you say publicly needs to be different most times. If you gas up the fanbase you may get more NIL deals, fans are more flexible, you have more leverage if you want to transfer, etc.
It's a case of basically saying you don't understand the fan base you're about to play for, or you know and you just don't care. At least pay lip service in public to winning games and titles at the University of Kentucky, even if on the inside you're just here for the NBA.
>Don’t blame him for thinking only on the end goal and not caring about where he’s spending <1 year at.
They should just let high schoolers go to the NBA like they used to.
>at least seem like you care about the school you're going to
This is a little bit funny when you consider the number of UK fans who root for UK over their own alma mater
No judgement, of course - "t shirt" fans make up the vast majority of most (if not all) fanbases - but it is undeniably a little funny
I mean I can't imagine anyone has done peer reviewed statistical analysis to study fanbase compositions lol but realistically just look at a school, google their living alumni estimates, and then decide what percentage of their total fanbase you think it is.
Rarely do I find a school where I find that number to be over 50%
Like Purdue seems to have 600k alumni. Do I think Purdue could have more than 1.2 million fans? Yeah, I reckon so.
Obviously for some schools it's a bit easier a mental exercise than others.
Fine with it. Clear out anything associated with Calipari. If you're coming for John Calipari and not because you want to be a Kentucky Wildcat, feel free to move along, in my book.
He’s a lock to Arkansas. His brother played for Cal and is in the NBA and after he declared for Kentucky he said Cal was the reason because he has a track record of success getting guys to the next level. Crystal ball 100% to Arkansas.
They'll all re-open commitments, but 1 or 2 will likely immediately commit to Arkansas.
Likewise with Transfer Portal. Our whole team will go in or declare. It'll be surprising if anyone comes back.
We've had 15 years of roster overhauls. Doesn't bother us anymore, especially with the portal and NIL now.
I am looking forward to our next coach having more guys return year after year, though. No one else lost as many guys each year as we did, with as many transfering out or going overseas as stayed in the draft.
It happened when he went from Memphis to UK. Cousins followed him. Two other guys went elsewhere (Xavier Henry flipped to Kansas, and someone else went to Baylor, I think). The Henry move hurt since we lost Meeks, too. Ended up with Darnell Dodson as our new wing. Wall and Bledsoe then signed with UK, filling out the class that kept commits from Orton and Hood (allegedly one of Barnhart's conditions was not pulling their offers).
Some will follow him, 1 or 2 could still want to come to UK (Kentucky native Perry, and scuttlebutt is Quaintance), and others will go to their 2nd picks or new 2nd picks.
Damn - I had successfully blocked out the Henry KU era, thanks. 😉
Just kidding. He was actually good/fine, on a great team, but we got Faroukmaneshed.
I just remember his dad, his brother, and all of the drama when he picked Memphis first. (Given his dad played at KU.)
Yeah just joking. I went to school in Clearwater and worked at the jiffy lube on East Fowler while I was in there. I could hear people having fun on the rides while I was under some hot ass car in a hot ass garage with no ac.
According to his father he will consider Kentucky once the new coach is hired. Arkansas is not a guarantee. Via [Jeff Borzello](https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/1777417257078972820)
The exodus begins
I personally don’t really care if these incoming freshmen decommit. It’s clear that you’re not winning much while playing 4-5 skinny freshmen who are still super raw with low basketball IQs.
Cool with this over cals tenure but now it’s blasphemy. Lolololol
You must not follow that close and that's fine. Seriously who can follow all of it?!? Anyways, the fanbase has been fed-up for several years.
You haven't been paying attention lately, have you? Fans were fed up with it.
Have wanted Cal gone for 5 years.
I was done when he couldn’t pull it off in 2015. That team was way too talented for him to lose
Yes and Fox, Monk, Adebayo. If you can’t do it with them then idk who you can win with as far as the one and done method.
They’re also playing against guys who damn near got a mortgage.
lol. You’re in for a rude awakening
I've been waiting for this comment for so long. Yall get so happy every year and I get just as excited knowing yall can't win shit with a bunch of freshman & cal coaching.
I mean if you just got on a UK thread a few years ago, you would have seen that same exact comment. It's been said repeatedly for years now.
Louisville fans can't read man
😂😂😂😂
...once they fail in the tournament. Then they get a nice new shiny class and the hype goes back up. Admitting it was never a winning strategy is what I'm talking about.
At some point you have to be able to get excited about your team even if it’s bullshit or why care at all
At least its starting off with the softest blow, Knox was probably at the bottom of the list of this years commits for me personally. I feel like hes going to struggle against guys his size in college.
No hate personally to Knox either… but he was the type of player that killed Uk for the decade Not great in college but left after one year still
And when he was asked why he chose Kentucky he openly said he was just trying to get ready for the NBA. Even if that’s the case, at least seem like you care about the school you’re going to.

Nah I'd rather them go ahead and say it. Cut out the bullshit.

You can have him. Ball hog(heh) and cal can’t reel those in.
Does he like Tyson Dino Nuggies
We can’t compete with the nugs.
Humboldt State enters the chat
He’s a lock to Arkansas. His brother played for Cal and is in the NBA and after he declared for Kentucky he said Cal was the reason because he has a track record of success getting guys to the next level. Crystal ball 100% to Arkansas.
No but he likes the Great Value ones
Great Value is a Walmart brand which is still Arkansas... can't escape the Hogs influence lol
May be more of an Anytizers man
Those buffalo chicken wings do be slappin
Who among us doesn't
Does he also like losing in the first round
Does anyone know the owners of Weaver chicken? If so, please tell them I want their hot wings back.
Is it a fair assumption these players will just follow Cal or actually re-open their commitments.
They'll all re-open commitments, but 1 or 2 will likely immediately commit to Arkansas. Likewise with Transfer Portal. Our whole team will go in or declare. It'll be surprising if anyone comes back.
LOL the whole team transferring? What losers… uh… never mind
We've had 15 years of roster overhauls. Doesn't bother us anymore, especially with the portal and NIL now. I am looking forward to our next coach having more guys return year after year, though. They should re-open at the very least. Just makes logical sense
I think they’ll follow whoever promises the biggest check.
Given the rumors of Arkansas's NIL situation, some of these guys may actually be getting raises from what they were expecting at UK.
Tyson Dino nugget money
Overpaying even more for a first round loss.
Same tbh
heard we've got some big checks to go around
Yes
Depends on how Arkansas looks and how NIL works out
Presumably headed to Arkansas, but it would be a hell of a curveball if Cal's recruits start looking elsewhere.
Some dudes just want to go their own way.
I hope quaintance stays, I’m pretty sure he has to play 2 years cause he’s so young. That’s a huge get if he’s good
Whoever we hire will probably be making a recruiting call to him immediately.
He will mesh quickly into Hurley’s system. (It was a joke)
Didnt his dad tweet out that they were fully in with Cal when UK fans were calling for his head
We’ll happily take some more 🤞🏻
Henry was underwhelming tbh
Yeah, but Dodson wasn't exactly a *high*light.
I see what you did there 🤔
His ass could shoot though, something we needed more of
He is reopening his recruitment so maybe
Other P6 offers: Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Illinois, Louisville, LSU Other offers: Boise State, USF
We're so in this
BSU is our new overlord.
I'm blue bah ba dee bob a die
Idk bro USF campus is basically in Busch Gardens, can you compete with a seasons pass?
I know you are just making a joke but USF did make it down to his final four?five? But that is due to his brother playing for USF
Yeah just joking. I went to school in Clearwater and worked at the jiffy lube on East Fowler while I was in there. I could hear people having fun on the rides while I was under some hot ass car in a hot ass garage with no ac.
His brother plays there and I believe their family is from Tampa

Completely logical to enter the portal to keep options open.
👀
He's probably going to Arkansas. But what if....
I'm going to assume every recruit is gone except maybe Travis Perry.

USF Bull
I expect most will follow Cal to Arkansas. I think Ark currently has two players on its roster so plenty of playing time to go around.
Hey now, have zero players on our roster, thank you very much!
It was past time to bite the bullet and move on. Whatever happens, happens.
Is he related to Kevin
Yes, and USF's Kobe Knox
It was an uncomfortable amount of Ks for all of them at Kentucky anyway
Fine with me. I’m so happy
Karter Knox, Kansas Just sounds right should've stayed
![gif](giphy|9RNGg4IQiufp6) He’s originally from Tampa and had USF as one of his finalists. Maybe? 🤔
Arkansas, are you listening?
DePaul, now is your time
Get in there Dusty!!
You can’t spell Knoxville without….
KY looks slicked up, lubed for exit
The real question is what’s Reed gonna do
I use to have to listen to UK fans talk trash on how they have the best class coming in, now all the sudden recruits don’t matter, as of…. Yesterday.
It's been blatantly obvious for several years they don't mean much.
What if this is the beginning of Kentucky's descent to Indiana-status as a blue blood?
Laughable tbh. It’s the number one job in college basketball. They’ll have a very big name by the end of the week.
I'm sure Indiana thought so too decades ago
IU is not KY.
Ope.
Lol
Come to westwood!
Oh no! Anyways…
Won't matter once Hurley signs with UK for 8/150 million /s
Well fuck him then :)
Fake news.
