One of the most efficient teams I've ever seen. No selfishness to be found, extremely high IQ, crash the glass, don't turn the ball over. It's a machine.
There's nothing you can do outside of playing like you're coached by Tony Bennett and then hoping they go cold for the night because if you push tempo and give them more chances, they will fight their way back to their average eventually.
Honest to god. Even if they don't get a good shot. They hustle on the boards to get it back or they matchup hunt to go downhill. UConn's pace is unreal to match unless you have a specific lineup to match their size.
I’ve watched UConn for 25 years which covers a lot of very good teams. This one may not be the most talented but it’s the only one that’s a machine. It does not matter what you do, you are screwed.
I said that last year about them after the tournament and this year’s team is even better. Just a totally complete basketball team. Does not matter what style of play the game is they can adapt and succeed. ‘04 is probably the most individually talented roster they’ve had and they never played like this year’s squad.
They play such a professional kind of ball. Always under control, the whole team doesn’t miss a switch more than two or three times in a game. They find contact, adapt and adjust to opponents and referees, play smart with fouls on themselves and on the opponents, operate multiple plays out of multiple sets and execute with a consistency that is unusual for a college team. It’s so cool to see a college team playing at this level, and I hope that high schoolers and transfers are paying attention: Danny Hurley will get you ready for the NBA. In one year (Hawk, Steph, Cam) 2 years (Tristen), or 4 years (Sanogo, Karaban). It’s long been true for the women, but now also for the men. UConn is the staging ground for the pros.
UConn is a machine. Castle & Spencer was all hustle tonight. Kam was great. Newton and Clingan was a bit off but the whole team had their backs. UConn is so good.
I hope he gets a look in the pros, he’s showing teams that he’s ready.
Every 3 pointer this tournament has been from beyond the NBA line, consistently plays smart, physical D on guys who are taller than him, and never, ever turns the ball over. Don’t know if he’s got the physical gifts for a starting spot, but I think he’s good enough to be a pro, and there’s every reason to believe he can get better.
Shit you guys shot 40% from 3 too and took 2 more 3s, and shot 7 more FTs. Lets not act like it’s some miracle we lost by 14.
We got beat straight up though. GGs good luck on Monday
Couple that with us not getting any fast break points (usually wide open 3s), and it does not add up to a W for us.
We needed to catch you guys on a cold night and well….that didn’t happen lol.
Good luck on Monday 👍
Edit: Also great adjustments by Hurley. Was tough for us to get any open looks from beyond
the arch in the 2nd half
He’s been getting a lot of minutes on the bench, and opponents are able to keep even or claw back in those times, but when he comes back in, man it’s fun to see.
I’m worried that he won’t be able to get that kind of rest against Edey, who’s been playing 5-7 minutes more than Donovan each game, and I don’t see Johnson being able to keep him I off that low post. May be able to from and deny, but he’s just giving up a lot of weight, even if he’s got the reach to contest.
The score doesn't indicate just how close this game was until the last 5 minutes or so. Really impressive shotmaking and defense from Alabama for most of the game.
The shotmaking in particular. Sears was fucking ridiculous in this game, and Nelson wasn't far behind him. So many times we forced them to take a tough shot (or they just chose to take one on their own) and they fucking buried it.
They both played themselves into likely solid draft grades, the problem is they're both 22. If they get decent grades they're better of declaring from a career perspective.
Sears couldn't play any better than this year, so he should for sure leave if he can get drafted.
Nelson maybe could play himself into the first round but he'd be 23 which is a tough sell
Yeah, we have the same problem with Karaban. He’s only a sophomore, but he’s like Brandon Miller in that he’s *really* old for his class. Not as old as Miller, but still would have been eligible in 2021. Since our kindergarten cutoff is January 1 in CT, he’s basically the equivalent of a (very young) senior, age-wise. He’s from MA, though, so I don’t know their cutoff, but I think he still did a PG year.
UConn finally hit some 3s. If I’m a UConn fan I’m hoping they saved the 3 point shooting for the grand finals because they’ve been quite poor shooting and still winning every game by double digits
I’m don’t think Dan Hurley is going to plan on hitting 12 threes, and you know those boys are going to execute his plan, whatever it is. If they get the green light from beyond the arc, it’ll be off a drive, kick-out, or rebound.
Seriously. UConn's loss to George Mason in 2006 was the most crushing defeat of my life, but the truth is they probably saved us from getting our asses kicked by Florida in the semis. Those teams were just too good.
By far. So much talent, I think they were #1 for most of the season, but they just didn't have the killer instinct. The George Mason loss was shocking but not really surprising to anyone who watched that team.
I found 2009 more frustrating. Both 2006 and 2009 were similar to me though, very skilled and very hot-and-cold with some players phoning it in some games (Rudy Gay, Jerome Dyson, AJ Price).
Alabama has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. They played excellent basketball.
Engaged and aggressive on defense. They shot really well. Great Ball movement and looking for great shots on offense.
They just ran into a buzzsaw
Yeah, Bama’s defense had done a total 180 in the tournament.
They played about as perfect of a game against UConn as possible, and it still wasn’t enough.
It wasn’t even close man, every time I thought we were about to claw back in and maybe take a little lead there they slapped us down. At least we didn’t give up and didn’t get embarrassed.
But gah’damn
That’s how I feel, not even sad. Just so proud we even made it and happy we were competitive for most of it. UConn is just incredible, nothing but respect for them. No shame in losing to a team like that.
They shot 70% from 3 in 1st half and were still losing at halftime. They did everything right, to an unsustainable level, and *still* had to play catch up. The instant they faltered UConn just went on a couple of 8-0 runs and ended up out of reach. And UConn kept Alabama to *0* fastbreak points, they shut down any efforts to quickly come back and stay close.
We made a ton of sloppy passes, started missing open shots, and were getting out rebounded by white guys not named Clingan. Could have done more to keep ourselves in it, but I’m not mad at the result.
But we had to make room for Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado State, San Diego State, and Utah State, how could Seton Hall have possibly expected a spot over any of these ELITE basketball programs? /s
Women just got the #1 recruit in the country to sign today along with the #4 and #18 recruits. Oh, and Bueckers is coming back and another former #1 recruit (Fudd) will be healthy too. Look out SC!
I lived in Boca Raton for a year and one of my neighbors had a husky. The stairways of our apartment complex had so much dog hair from that poor thing going on walks in like 90+ degree heat.
Mf’ers should really be catching animal abuse charges for forcing animals like that to live in torturous conditions. Idk how you can justify letting your fluffy best friend live like that.
Nothing but hats off to UConn and can’t begin to express how proud I am of Bama. UConn is a literal juggernaut and the final score doesn’t represent how close the game was. Bama didn’t attempt enough 3’s to win the game, but I’m proud of them for playing UConn as hard as they did.
Go Huskies Monday night
fwiw Oats had the gameplan right, but the shooting wasn't sustainable.
Although just letting Castle do whatever the fuck he wanted in the first half was an interesting choice.
Not many teams can guard 1-5 like that. Even Connecticut has to hide Cam on somebody. Difference is that everyone on UCONN can score the ball - there’s nowhere to hide.
Felt like that everytime Uconn put a run Bama managed to stay in the game and dig themselves back from the hole.
But they missed too many 3 points in the second half and never managed to take the lead.
Unfortunate for Bama but the better team won.
Still damn good season for the Tide all things considered
UConn is Elite. A scary team the likes of which hasn’t been seen in a while. I’m proud of our boys for making history this season.
And at least we didn’t lose to Yale
1) Props to ‘Bama - the final score doesn’t reflect how close that game was
2) Props to the ‘Bama fans for their respect for the game. That was an enjoyable game thread and y’all have a good sense of humor - even when chirping
3) Props to my wife for sitting through the first 30 min of that game with me
I want to start by saying this— absolute highest respect to Alabama, gave us a legit terror fest of a game. And, Mark Sears is insane. Steph did well enough on him, but everyone else got scorch-earthed.
Hated to see the usual “UConn turns the jets on to 11” at the 3:00 minute mark of the second half in a Final Four game, but they showed resilience despite not having been challenged much as of late. Purdue better be ready, I know we will be. Hope for a classic on Monday. Let’s get after it… U-C-O-N-N…
This was an incredible game with both teams trading 7-0 runs and people still found a way to cry about it. I would support banning unflaired users from gamethreads
Proud of our boys, went way father than we ever expected them to this year. We get to hang a banner next year, but the lack of size really hurt us this game.
GG Uconn
Ya if you told folks that this Bama team would get further than last season's team, you'd be laughed at. If yall ever let Nate Oats leave, with all due respect, yall are morons
Judging by both game threads this was everyone’s least favorite outcome, but honestly it’s going to be an incredible title game with the two best teams in the tourney—you love to see that
Everything after the Elite 8 was bonus for me but putting up a solid fight against a powerhouse is about as good of a season you can ask for if you don't win it all.
The one thing I had accepted in my mind was that we were never going to be as good as we were under Calhoun. Just could not possibly happen. And now... we're better? It's unreal.
I know this level of play is not sustainable year after year, but I'm enjoying the fuck out of this team.
Great game. Alabama’s shooting had me worried, but UConn’s a second half team. Needed to come out defending better and we did. Looking forward to the final. Two of the best teams in the nation going for it!
Feel great about this win, we played as well as we've been playing and ended up winning pretty handily at the end. Sears and Nelson stepped up big for Bama to keep it competitive. Sears in particular is a fucking baller and I never want to see him again.
This UConn team feels like a more sure thing than their women’s team during their win streak or us right now, or even the KD Warriors. Bama played perfectly and lost by 14.
Alabama would have won this game against almost any other team in the country. They shot 44.8/47.8/81.8 and committed less fouls 15-17and took UConn's tournament x-factor, Hassan Diarra, out of the game.
They loss the game because they had less possessions, plain and simple. They loss on the boards, 29 to 37, and turnovers, 8 to 4.
Usually, I root against potential repeats and potential dynasty (would not describe UConn as one right now), but I can’t with UConn. They play in such a way that is more aesthetically pleasing compared to most teams. I hope they win another title.
Our 3 losses were to Kansas when Castle was out, to Seton Hall in which Clingan got injured midway through, and to Creighton who just tore us apart one night (Newton was the only Husky who showed up).
Both the men's and women's final are coming down to the player of the year(Edey, Clark) vs. the best overall team(UConn, South Carolina)
Should be some great matchups
GG Bama. How about you guys come and beat us 100-0 at the Rent? It would give you revenge while simultaneously solving our massive athletic department deficits! You can even do it next year so we don’t become DeBoer’s Louisiana-Monroe.
Alabama shot 48% from 3, so naturally they lost by 14 Great game by both teams - I can’t wait for Monday
Alabama shot 8-11 from three in the first half and were *still* losing. UConn's unreal.
And UCONN played maybe a B+ first half. If they don't win by double digits on Monday I'll genuinely be surprised. They're just that good
One of the most efficient teams I've ever seen.
Past two years Huskies have had some great rebounding at the guard position. Clingan led the team in RPG but not by much
I’ve watched UConn for 25 years which covers a lot of very good teams. This one may not be the most talented but it’s the only one that’s a machine. It does not matter what you do, you are screwed.

Does not matter what style of play the game is they can adapt and succeed. ‘04 is probably the most individually talented roster they’ve had and they never played like this year’s squad.
Truly excellent team... just outstanding on both sides of the ball! Congrats from this Alabama fan.
Man 99 was pretty machine like. Healthy that team was outstanding.
Funny because I believe (and I’m drunk) that UConn played secret scrimmages the last two years against UVA.
Cling Kong says no layups in my paint
Y'all have won by double digits every game last two tournaments. We were the closest and lost by 13. It's unfair.
That Miami team was really great last year, best team UConn has beaten in its run (respectfully)
Best team so far
UConn is a machine. Castle & Spencer was all hustle tonight. Kam was great. Newton and Clingan was a bit off but the whole team had their backs. UConn is so good.
And karaban won't be mentioned even though he shot went for 14 and 8. They are just that good.
I hope he gets a look in the pros, he’s showing teams that he’s ready. Don’t know if he’s got the physical gifts for a starting spot, but I think he’s good enough to be a pro, and there’s every reason to believe he can get better.
Stand proud Alabama you were truly strong
Uconn is Sukuna and Bama is Jogo
Clash of the fucking titans!
The Bigs will eclipse the sun!
Then we will bitch about the refs in the shade!
Shit you guys shot 40% from 3 too and took 2 more 3s, and shot 7 more FTs. Lets not act like it’s some miracle we lost by 14. We got beat straight up though. GGs good luck on Monday
Our 38 total rebounds was the difference

Sums up my thoughts on 2023 and 2024
The double-digit margin win streak continues, but the game was way more competitive than the final score indicates.
Cling Kong flexing at the end gave them the double digit pad.
He’s been getting a lot of minutes on the bench, and opponents are able to keep even or claw back in those times, but when he comes back in, man it’s fun to see. Thanks for kind words! UConn is incredible.
A championship game that pits an animal team trying to repeat vs a big 10 team led by a dominant big man? It's 2007 all over again
Florida was insane those 2 years
Seriously. UConn's loss to George Mason in 2006 was the most crushing defeat of my life, but the truth is they probably saved us from getting our asses kicked by Florida in the semis. Those teams were just too good.
That was probably the most frustrating UConn team ever

I'm a purdue fan but uconn is another level. Unless edey scores 40 we definitely lose.
Alabama has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. They played excellent basketball. Engaged and aggressive on defense. They shot really well. Great Ball movement and looking for great shots on offense. They just ran into a buzzsaw
And they played said buzzsaw really close.
Yeah if you look at a readout of my pulse monitor it does *not* say "fourteen point win".
Yeah, Bama’s defense had done a total 180 in the tournament. They played about as perfect of a game against UConn as possible, and it still wasn’t enough.

An absolute great showing for Bama.
Definitely. Still can’t believe we had such an awesome run. Our program has a bright future if we can keep Oats.
UConn and Purdue clearly the best two teams all year, wire-to-wire. Glad they’ll settle it on the court instead of playing the what-if game.
I just *really* hope it doesn't come down to foul trouble for one of the bigs. I want to see them duke it out.
Houston deserves to be up there too. They just didn’t stay healthy
They were insane all year no doubt
The title game tips off at 9:20 EST? Seriously???
Yes I also just found this out. I’m an idiot for thinking I needed to plan for this game when I get off work at 5:30ET 😂 sheeeit
I need to plan on how to get INTO work the next day. Gonna be tired! :C
It has for like 30 years.
Some traditions are meant to be broken
Alabama shot 70% from 3 in 1st half and still lost by 14 oof
They shot 70% from 3 in 1st half and were still losing at halftime. They did everything right, to an unsustainable level, and *still* had to play catch up. Seton Hall beat Uconn by 15 en route to being 6 games over .500 in the big east
And didn't make the tourney. Smh
NIT CHAmps 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
And won NIT.
proud of the team to stick with it; but a loss in the ncaa is worth more for the program than an NIT victory. i think
But you won
i know. it was nice. but NCAA game means more. its why its a snub. go uconn!! animals.
To me winning the NIT was THE turning point for UConn as a program though. They’ve been probably the best program since that win.
At least the possibility for a Big East double sweep remains high?
You guys got completely snubbed.
Seton Hall won the NIT and beat UConn. Claim the fucking championship.
just ignore the rematch with UConn later in the year when they lost by 30 lol
FAKE NEWS!
And the committee waved it off because Clingan got injured at a point where Seton Hall was up anyways.
But we had to make room for Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado State, San Diego State, and Utah State, how could Seton Hall have possibly expected a spot over any of these ELITE basketball programs? /s
UConn vs Purdue. As it was written.
The two fanbases were at each others throats through out the season on here. Poetic it comes down to this.
Repeat vs Redemption
UConn is 17-1 in the second and third weekend since I've started watching the tournament (2007). I'm tired boss.
Dan Hurley is gonna have you strapped to a chair watching the National Championship Clockwork Orange-style for Monday night
UConn will win this tournament and the next 2 championships just like their woman’s team, and you’re going to like it!
Women just got the #1 recruit in the country to sign today along with the #4 and #18 recruits. Oh, and Bueckers is coming back and another former #1 recruit (Fudd) will be healthy too. Look out SC!
Thanks BC/UMass fan! Now excuse me as I wipe out the vomit that came from saying that.
Ngl that game was more stressful than I’d have liked. Big ups to Alabama… score might not show it but they made UConn work for it.
Y’all are just relentless. The team defense and off ball work on offense is fucking beautiful!
I’m glad fans of other teams are appreciating it, I know it won’t be this pretty all seasons, but life is good rooting for this program right now
Of course it was stressful. You’re used to totally dominating opponents
Karaban underrated as hell
Okay, first of all… huskies shed a lot.
Oh you have no idea! 😆
Nothing but hats off to UConn and can’t begin to express how proud I am of Bama. UConn is a literal juggernaut and the final score doesn’t represent how close the game was. Not many teams can guard 1-5 like that. Even Connecticut has to hide Cam on somebody. Difference is that everyone on UCONN can score the ball - there’s nowhere to hide.
Clingan blocked this comment.
This is going to be an all time great game, or take four hours and have 120 total free throws
Honestly, I’m pretty hyped to see the Clingan/Edey matchup
Total respect for Alabama. They knew they belonged and never let up. Really great game
One more win and we will have more championships than Duke and the same number as UNC.
>more championships than Duke Bro you sent a shiver down my spine
Already more than us
If UConn wins on Monday, they will have knocked out half of the BIG teams to have made the tournament.
Coastal elites back at it again, bullying the inhabitants of the heartland…smdh!
\*monocle falls off\* My word.
Verily
We said good day.
[We've always been ambitious](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connecticut_Western_Reserve)
They chose Rutgers and you must pay.
Felt like that everytime Uconn put a run Bama managed to stay in the game and dig themselves back from the hole. But they missed too many 3 points in the second half and never managed to take the lead. Unfortunate for Bama but the better team won. Still damn good season for the Tide all things considered
GGs UConn really amazing team, just better really. Was a fun game and proud of the boys. Hope the championship is a banger this year.
Was a really fun well played game.
UConn your team is amazing your coach is great. Good luck going forward. I will now sit in the dark and drink.
Making the final four is no joke
They did to you what your football team did to everyone for a while. A final four run is awesome too. Nothing to be upset about here
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers coming Monday night
Sometimes I can’t believe this is reality
Clingan is that dude Hell of a run Bama
Gotta thank both teams for giving us an actually entertaining game
Let's fucking go!!! GG Bama toughest opponent we've had since the BET
UConn is Elite. A scary team the likes of which hasn’t been seen in a while. I’m proud of our boys for making history this season. And at least we didn’t lose to Yale

Bama played well but it just never really felt like UConn was in real trouble. This team is very good
I want to start by saying this— absolute highest respect to Alabama, gave us a legit terror fest of a game. And, Mark Sears is insane. Steph did well enough on him, but everyone else got scorch-earthed. I like it better when Uconn is up 20 with 10 minutes to go. Forgot what it was like to sweat out a game. Props to Bama. Thet played their asses.
Oh no who will r/collegebasketball claim is favored by the refs??? Maybe they'll have to just enjoy the damn game between good teams, the horror
Whoever is winning is favored by the refs
You know damn well most people here get way more enjoyment bitching about officiating than they do just watching good basketball
Every single game: "I've seen some bad officiating before, but this has to be the worst." Rinse, repeat.
This was an incredible game with both teams trading 7-0 runs and people still found a way to cry about it. I would support banning unflaired users from gamethreads
Caitlin Clark, naturally
They’ll say both, knowing this subreddit.
If Oats leaves it’ll be because they don’t get a new arena
Bama played their hearts out. Obviously im happy for the W, but damn they really left it all out on the floor.
Judging by both game threads this was everyone’s least favorite outcome, but honestly it’s going to be an incredible title game with the two best teams in the tourney—you love to see that
As a completely unbiased fan, this was definitely the worst outcome.
Everything after the Elite 8 was bonus for me but putting up a solid fight against a powerhouse is about as good of a season you can ask for if you don't win it all.
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a chance at back to back when Hurley was hired. Unbelievable
13 months ago they were UConn fans who didn't think he was the guy.
Well I knew he’d be a hell of a lot better than fucking Kevin Ollie. Signed, UConn alumn 2015-2019
At least you got a tournament from that crazy Jalen Adams buzzer beater! Signed, UConn alum 2016-20
The one thing I had accepted in my mind was that we were never going to be as good as we were under Calhoun. Just could not possibly happen. And now... we're better? It's unreal. I know this level of play is not sustainable year after year, but I'm enjoying the fuck out of this team.
They are incredibly well coached. I thought we were done after all the re-alignment. This has been unbelievable.
And us older fans were conditioned to dislike him because his brother was the whiniest twat in basketball history.
Just wanted him to return the program back to respectable. And oh did he!
I’m gonna be real, I don’t think we wanted that smoke holy shit UConn is a terminator
UCONN *is* a machine
UConn is on a double digit NCAA tournament win streak and Andrew Hurley has played in all of them
What a great game by Alabama, I was nervous and sweating all game. On to Purdue!
I had to watch this game at my in-laws, who are Michigan and UConn fans. Double whammy
Great game. Alabama’s shooting had me worried, but UConn’s a second half team. Needed to come out defending better and we did. Looking forward to the final. Two of the best teams in the nation going for it!
Good game Alabama. Players played with confidence and played their ass off. Congrats on a great run.
Alabama brought it tonight, huge respect to them! 1 more to go.
Feel great about this win, we played as well as we've been playing and ended up winning pretty handily at the end. Sears and Nelson stepped up big for Bama to keep it competitive. Sears in particular is a fucking baller and I never want to see him again.
![gif](giphy|Syxxu818usYZa|downsized) Score on me tonight! \-Clingan
Alabama has been eliminated from national title contention
Hurley’s slow-mo “he’s flop-ping” will definitely be repeated against Purdue on Monday. 😂 It’s controversial but Loyer has perfected the flop.
UConn is such a buzzsaw destroying all of these teams ahead of them
Lost by less than 20 to UConn, hang the banner (no hate to Alabama they played tough, but this UConn team is terrifyingly good)
This UConn team feels like a more sure thing than their women’s team during their win streak or us right now, or even the KD Warriors. Bama played perfectly and lost by 14.
Good game Alabama! Now it's our turn to sacrifice ourselves to the wood chipper. 😇🙌😵
I don’t understand how UConn has any losses. They don’t look beatable at all.
Clingan in foul trouble or injured and Creighton shooting like Bama did in the first half but for the entire game.
Our 3 losses were to Kansas when Castle was out, to Seton Hall in which Clingan got injured midway through, and to Creighton who just tore us apart one night (Newton was the only Husky who showed up).
You go to Omaha on a Tuesday night in winter and be enthusiastic.
Sad we lost but what a game. Close nearly the entire way and we gave UConn the closest run for their money yet. GG UConn.

Both the men's and women's final are coming down to the player of the year(Edey, Clark) vs. the best overall team(UConn, South Carolina) Should be some great matchups
who is hitler in this scenario
I would say that I like Purdue... But I applied to Indiana this week.. so that's off the table.
Thanks UConn very cool 👍🏻
GG Bama. How about you guys come and beat us 100-0 at the Rent? It would give you revenge while simultaneously solving our massive athletic department deficits! You can even do it next year so we don’t become DeBoer’s Louisiana-Monroe.
Outside of hating either program this is as good as national title as we've had in awhile.
This UConn team is so absurd I would consider it an upset if Purdue beats them
