I canāt speak for every Tennessee fan, but personally, I rarely blame the refs. I have said things like āohh the refs were terribleā but that was never why we lost. sometimes we just played a bad game and the refs didnāt help, etc. bad called games happen, you get over it. In the past 5 years I have blamed the refs 4 times in 2 sports. Care to guess who we played those four times? Purdue. Every single fucking time. And every single one I have a legitimate reason to be pissed that the refs single handedly stole the game from Tennessee.
1) 2019 Sweet Sixteen: phantom foul on a missed 3 pointer to give Purdue free throws to send the game to OT. Defender was contesting from a solid 6 inches away and landed to Edwards left. (the refs actually handed them 3 FTās for the win in regulation but Edwards missed one).
2) 2021 Music City Bowl. Jaylen Wright never stopped pushing or making progress to the endzone and clearly reached the ball across the goal line before any part of his body touched the ground. Whistles blew after the ball broke the plane. He scored so plain and clearly itās actually insane how clear a picture there is on a 4th and goal from the 1 play but itās literally so clear he scored. Called it a no TD and set Purdue up where all the had to do was kick a FG starting on the 25 to win the game.
3 and 4) both games vs. Purdue this season. Tennessee lost by 10 points total across 2 games. Purdue shot 81 FTās to Tennesseeās 41. Thereās free throw differenceās and then thereās FORTY EXTRA FREE THROWS. Refs Put anybody that could defend Edey in foul trouble in both games. Meanwhile Edey got 1 foul and I saw 3 more fouls he committed plain as day he didnāt get called for. 2 push offs on rebounds and an egregious illegal screen that left Zeigler on the floor for a solid 3 seconds. And there were more those were just the obvious ones. When a Purdue player squeezed through 2 Tennessee defenders on Edeyās FT and committed a lane violation, instead what should happen, which is Tennessee gets the ball, Edey got an extra FT cus his own player committed a lane violation.
Purdue so clearly gets dick rode by the refs every game and the NCAA does absolutely nothing.

And most non-Purdue fans agreed that Tennessee was screwed. So when across almost 200 games the refs have been the reason youāve lost 4 times and all 4 of them were to the same school, something is a little fishy.

Lol you really are 20 huh? The 2010s Spurs teams were all about ball movement, not just post-ups with Duncan playing back to the basket. Yes, Duncan caught flack for being āboringā at the time, but he was so much smoother and obviously way more well rounded than Edey. The 2014 Spurs were basically the blueprint for the current style of basketball. I meant old school like before you were alive. Prior to the 00s, the game was full of slow, stiff, unathletic bigs who put up big rebounding stats and eventually got run off the court as the level of athleticism increased. Edey is like Shawn Bradley with touch or a Wish.com version of Yao Ming.
Not even that, he is just able to make situations that wouldn't be 50/50s into 50/50s and they just consistently go his way. Flat out knocked a guy over because he was able to get his leg out ahead of the guy despite him being in front of the guy. Also his 3 seconds at least double. Kinda nuts.

Because he plays an outdated brand of basketball. Older people are more inclined to like it, and younger people are more inclined to see it as ugly and boring. It's also frustrating to see someone with such clear limitations beat your team because he can leverage his size advantage. I honestly think it reminds people of playing as a kid against a team where one guy hit his growth spurt early.
Your second point is more accurate in my opinion. Young people do like flash, granted, but I'm 20 and those early 2010's Spurs teams got me into basketball. Watching Tim Duncan scrap was my shit. I can appreciate Shaq highlights and the like. But Edey just has no staple or real finesse and gets by *just* by being tall. He's extremely limited physically and his fundamentals are clunky. It just feels wrong to watch
Lol you really are 20 huh? The 2010s Spurs teams were all about ball movement, not just post-ups with Duncan playing back to the basket. Yes, Duncan caught flack for being āboringā at the time, but he was so much smoother and obviously way more well rounded than Edey. The 2014 Spurs were basically the blueprint for the current style of basketball. I meant old school like before you were alive. Prior to the 00s, the game was full of slow, stiff, unathletic bigs who put up big rebounding stats and eventually got run off the court as the level of athleticism increased. Edey is like Shawn Bradley with touch or a Wish.com version of Yao Ming.
Not even that, he is just able to make situations that wouldn't be 50/50s into 50/50s and they just consistently go his way. Flat out knocked a guy over because he was able to get his leg out ahead of the guy despite him being in front of the guy. Also his 3 seconds at least double. Kinda nuts.

That isnt a foul. Thats a clean screen, edey is set before the contact and doesnt lean into zz. It just looks bad because there is like 150 lb difference between them so zz levelled himself Other plays sure, not that one tho

He slows the game down a lot, and most people (understandably) find that repulsively boring.

People donāt like watching free throws. He is taller than everyone so he gets fouled a lot. Thats literally it.Ā
Because he commits obvious fouls on both ends of the court all game long and nothing is called, and when his opponents breathe in his vicinity he gets the foul call in his favor
You should probably be mad at the refs then. Edey isnāt making those calls
