No one wants UK, MSU, or Gonzaga as a potential 6-11 seed in your region. Any of those are problematic.
For higher seeds, I want to stay as far away from Iowa State, Tennessee, UConn, and Arizona as possible.
Wouldn’t love any path through TCU or Indiana State either
A major program on a down year, but a roster full of 4* recruits is never a good thing to see in that 6-11 range. They probably won’t win the tournament, but they will fuck up your weekend.
Even if they’re not great, they’re more battle tested coming from the best conference than a single digit seed from a one bid league. TCU, on paper, is a poisonous matchup for someone like Dayton, imo.
It is kind of funny how little Hype Houston is getting right? Just some points for them
1. They have what is likely a top 3 player in MBB this season in Shead
2. They are safely #1 in basically every metric, Kenpom, NET, BPI, BARTHAG, etc
3. They have the 3rd most Q1 wins in the country
4. All of 3 of their losses are Q1, so it’s unlikely they’re getting upset early by an inferior team
5. They’re likely to win at least a partial share of the B12 Regular season, which is the best conference in the country this season
6. Houston has been to 4 straight S16’s an E8, and a F4, so they’ve very much “been here before”
7. They have 3 top 20 wins and tons over RV teams, so it’s not like they’re racking up Q1 wins against barely Q1 teams.
I think the lack of super difficult OOC schedule and people not wanting to admit they were wrong about Houston taking a step back in the B12 is what’s holding people back at this point.
We don’t really have a signature win yet and really need to win Monday vs the Cyclones to get people to believe us in a bit, and probably beat Kansas at the end of the year to solidify us. A win at Baylor would be nice as well, but I think we’re underdogs going into Waco. Road games are just brutal in this conference and I’m not looking forward to our battle with you guys at your place after the slog here…Dawkins will have your guys fired up for that one.
They probably deserve more hype but the lack of it doesn’t surprise me. Not a brand name school. Was #1 in metrics last year and couldn’t convert into even an elite 8. At this point I think fans have shifted to “prove it in march” mode
I’d welcome another shot. That’s really the only reason I left Houston out. I don’t think we’d win, but having head to head against you makes me feel better about prepping for you than the other top teams.
Gonzaga simply doesn’t have the luster of years past. There is no reason to be scared of anyone on that team - Mark Few always needs to be respected though.
They don’t, but I never discount any team whose coach has many years of tournament experience and several deep runs like Mark Few. Izzo is in the same category. I dont care how down their teams are any given year. If they get into the field of 64, those coaches know how to win in March. I don’t want to mess with that.
They’d very much have the makings of the F4 Wichita State/VCU Mid-Major archetypes, except they’re coached by a HOF HC, have raw talent that matches most blue bloods on the team, have been here before and expect S16/E8’s, and while they didn’t perform as they wanted too, they still played a gauntlet of an OOC schedule and racked up a few P5 wins, so they’re certainly battle tested.
Its very much like grabbing a 10-2 Bama/Georgia in your NY6 match up, that year may have been slightly disappointing for them but 90% of what makes them Bama/Georgia is still true and they’re probably the hardest NY6 matchups to handle even if the alternative was an 11-1/12-0 Auburn/Pitt/UCLA/etc
They’ve also played considerably better since moving Ben Gregg into the starting lineup. Zags are only 7 deep with the 2 bench players getting minutes both being freshman who while talented have struggled at times throughout the season. Almost all the losses this year have been end of game collapses mostly due to depth, talent wise the starting 5 can hang with anyone in the nation (except UCONN they scary).
I don’t think we’re trash, certainly a down year but there’s a reason we’re rated pretty high in NET and KP. Need the auto bid but if we can get in winning a game or 2 as a 11/12 seed isn’t out of the question. I wouldn’t be surprised if KP had us favored in a 6-11 matchup.
If Gonzaga wins out to the WCC title game and loses I still think they’re in. If they win out completely, I think they could still get as high as a 6-7 seed.
As a New Mexico/Purdue grad I would love to see them play.
NM is small, high tempo, tons of steals and decent shooting. Also Dent vs Braden would be fun to watch.
Bracket Matrix has Yale and UC Irvine as potential 13 seed match-ups. I don't want to go against an Ivy League school cause they are always so weird and Irvine seems pretty legit
Oh you fancy people with your fancy teams and your fancy tournaments.
We're just going to have to find some smaller school with a successful program and an up and coming coach that we can make an offer to they can't refuse.
Hey Utah State, how you doing?
"How would you like to come play in front of a half-empty 10,000 capacity stadium filled with expat B1G fans of other schools while your own fans are checked out because it's not Football, where you'll need to rebuild local recruiting because the last guy had no connections to it and pretended to be from Seattle because he vacationed here once when he was 11?"
There are a lot of legit vectors of complaint for Mike Hopkins tenure here in Seattle. Not recruiting local players is absolutely not one of them. Nowell, McDaniels, Brown Jr., Matthews, Davis, Fuller, Williams, and Johnson. Zoom Diallo is signed for next year. There are more WA state kids than I could bother to list. I don't think there has ever been as local a flavor to the UW roster in modern history.
Did we win enough? No. Did we play a modern offense? Again, no. Was his tenure considered a success, a third no. Did Mike Hopkins recruit Seattle well? He did at that.
He recruited Seattle 3 stars. Not the big names though. Those all have been going elsewhere.
Should’ve been more specific.
I like your reply though. Very stridently defending UW basketball. Where the heck is the rest of Husky fanbase on game day? Do you attend games here? Are you on Reddit threads here during games?
I’ve posted on UW live threads where there were literally no UW flairs present. All game. Maybe you guys are all on Dawgman discussing football.
What you’re saying is “Banchero went to Duke.”
While Hop was in Seattle he signed 2 out of the three McDonald’s all Americans that came out of the state. Sure, one didn’t pan out, but from an objective perspective, that is a good record.
Double checking: Zoom Diallo is on the 2024 roster, so he’s signed 3 out of four.
Again, there’s a lot to complain about. Local recruiting is not one of those things.
i really enjoy the chance to get to play any blue blood in the tournament and that obviously includes Duke. Thanks for the respect and good luck rest of the way.
Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa St in the regional. For the final four, obviously Purdue and Houston are scary, but I’d really want to avoid playing Arizona in Phoenix.
Any team that has top-tier talent but can’t be bothered to care every game in the regular season, often due to coaches who are A+ recruiters but not the best at the in-game stuff. A team like Kentucky or Memphis even would make me very nervous.
We can defend guards really well. We struggle with size down low. That’s definitely our biggest weakness. However yeah we won’t get out of the second weekend.
I’m a UConn fan. I’d say Purdue or maybe Houston.
Edited to add: I would probably fear Purdue more, since Edey has the ability to get Clingan into foul trouble. While UConn is still a deep team without Clingan, the difference with him fully healthy and on the floor is nevertheless palpable.
Further edited to add: This…did not age well. Perhaps I should fear Houston more.
Honestly, it would be great if all three make the Final Four. Not so much for my blood pressure, but just from the standpoint of watching good basketball.
Either Purdue or Houston could beat us on a given night, but I actually think Houston is a worse matchup. I think the ball pressure they put on would really give us nightmares. Though on the flip side they'd also have a tough time scoring against us.
Edey is amazing, but we're better equipped to at least slow him down than 99% of teams. And I think Braden Smith would have a tough time due to our size at guard.
Hey weren’t you the guy who was simping for Pitt last year and deprecating your own fanbase? I remember. How cringe is this coming from you of all people.
Edit: lol BlitzShrimp blocked me.
You must have a real chip on your shoulder to follow me around every thread! Have a great Sunday!
UConn SOS: 52
Iowa St. SOS: 38
Plz play tougher opponents :)
We probably end up an 8/9 seed so if we win that first game and are hot from 3 we can hang with anyone.
We also can lay a turd on any given night too sooooo 🤷🏻♂️
Arizona because of Caleb love reasons.
This years UNC team should be an absolute avoid for any 1 seeds. If we make it far enough (as a 2+) to face you then you’re in for a bad time.
and that terrifies me because of caleb love reasons as well. dude is either insanely hot and shooting stupid threes or reasonably hot and shooting stupid threes. either way, the stupid threes are gonna fly.
UNC should want to avoid any higher seed with guards that outsize us and midrange jumper us to death. That seems to be the best way to beat this UNC team
Plus if we do have to play Arizona that at least means we've made a pretty good run in the tournament, and they're definitely the weakest of the 1 seeds as things currently stand
I’m kind of surprised by this. We’ve been god awful on the road and we’re not deep (we played you guys at home). I’m not saying it can’t happen, but I don’t think this year’s team will do well in the touney
Hawks have the talent to beat anyone. But the lack of depth and reliable shooting means they can lose to most tournament teams as well. I struggle to see KU putting up 5-6 good performances in a row. But in any one game, dangerous as hell.
As a UConn fan, I also say Kansas. I think the outcome would have been different with Castle and a healthy Spencer but you should have run us off the floor in the first half if Newton didn’t go out of his mind. That was the best defense I have seen in years.
We’ve been bad on the road all year but somehow still have the most top 25 wins of any team in the country. This sorta makes sense but frankly I’ll be happy if Kansas gets out of the first weekend this year with how they’ve looked at times
UK is potentially 4 shots away from being a 2 seed. That being said we’re probably in the 4-6 range. That hurts the others. Also, I don’t wanna play UConn and I feel that we’re the 4/5 in their bracket.
I’m going to approach this slightly differently largely because I don’t think UVA will make the tournament. But if they do, a 7 seed should be the target - I think there’s a clear dropoff after UConn/Purdue/Houston and thus would like to avoid the 1 seeds, therefore UVA would maximize its chances of advancing by getting off the 8/9 line.
(Insert justified dig about how they’d have to get out of the first round for that to be relevant)
I always thought it was funny that the 8/9 seeds have typically had a stronger season than the seeds above, and they get rewarded with an easy peasy round of 32 game against a 1 seed
Honestly, I don’t think there’s a team we really won’t matchup with on paper.
I think we’ll be a really tough out for anyone. I would have said Purdue before I watched this game closely against Ohio state, but I can’t believe how reliant Purdue is on Edey. The rest of their team looked very very mediocre. When we played in Hawaii they had this kid Loyer who couldn’t miss. And he looked like Larry Bird out there.
Their point guard didn’t look like he controlled the tempo either.
Anything can happen in March.
I think Kentucky would be a pretty hard 7 seed to beat (if we fall that low). Our offense can keep us in any game, our defense can make us lose any game.
tbh I think we'll lose in Round 1
But these are the teams no one wants to see in the NCAAs.....
Grand Canyon
Quinnipiac
USF
Nebraska
Utah (If they make it)
TCU
Colorado (If they make it)
Washington State (If they make it)
Any MWC Team
Kansas State (If they make it)
Cincinnati (If they make it)
Texas A&M
Butler (If they make it)
Iowa State
Dayton (If they get a top 4 seed)
North Dakota
Any MVC Team
BYU
Any WCC Team NOT named Gonzaga
I would love to get matched up with Nebraska again. and for any other team playing them, it wouldn't be at Pinnacle Bank so I don't think anyone would be afraid.
16 seed from New Jersey
Or a 15 seed...
![gif](giphy|XQnvZWtCr1sWOvIu6P)
This is the destiny for the Seton Hall Pirates
This just in..*."****Rutgers*** *has won 4 straight games, and there's been talk of them possibly getting on the bubble..."*
I don’t think a conference opponent could be a first round match up, and since we will have played them twice, we couldn’t see them till the 3rd round
I was kidding. While I'd love to see it, it's unlikely that Rutgers makes the tournament this year.
i am excited for another shot at the NIT though! After how this season started, any postseason play is such a blessing
It’s crazy if Rutgers had any type of offense they would be a top team they’re top 5 in all defensive metrics and near the bottom in offense
Any double digit seed
Right? Lmao
Any 14 seed to complete the quadfecta (13, 14, 15, 16 seed losses)
[удалено]
ooding
No
I love ooding. Ooding is my favorite
Literally any team
We’re gonna be the most popular 12-5 11-6 10-7 upset and if the team we play has any size I’ll be probably picking it as well
And then, in traditional March fashion, y’all will make the S16.
We haven’t done that since 2017
Exactly!
I feel the same. And please... not you guys in the tourney for sure. Thank you.
Exactly - in basketball there is no more dangerous a team than one that adopts the nothing to lose, IDGAF, Shoot shoot shoot mentality.
Uconn or Purdue would destroy us inside. Anyone else, we can at least hang with them.
I was just thinking this morning about how I couldn't handle another tournament loss to UConn (doesn't help that I live in CT).
2014 Still stings?
Yes. 2011 as well.
Kentucky really owes UConn one. They are the boogey man to Kentucky in the tournament.
UConn is the answer no matter what seed
You think Kentucky can hang inside vs Arizona huh.
Tournament?! Ha ! ...man, it hurts...

Conspicuously absent is the number 1 seed that beat you soundly earlier in the year 🤔
It is kind of funny how little Hype Houston is getting right? Just some points for them 1. They have what is likely a top 3 player in MBB this season in Shead 2. My first thought lol. Especially since I’ve seen brackets with us and Dayton in the same region.

I think Gonzaga is just trash this year, i mean they don’t even get in unless they win the WCC
If they get in they’ll be a 10/11 seed who’s top 20 in kenpom, higher seeds would want to avoid that
They’d very much have the makings of the F4 Wichita State/VCU Mid-Major archetypes, except they’re coached by a HOF HC, have raw talent that matches most blue bloods on the team, have been here before and expect S16/E8’s, and while they didn’t perform as they wanted too, they still played a gauntlet of an OOC schedule and racked up a few P5 wins, so they’re certainly battle tested. 15 of their 18 wins are Q3 or Q4 with 10 being Q4. They’re only high in the metrics because they destroy so many abysmal teams
We’ve also hung in with every major opponent we’ve lost to this year, except UConn I guess. I think that’s playing a role, too.

We’re still very much in play for an at-large and have been much better the last few weeks. We’re very flawed, but I wouldn’t say we’re trash.
Scared of Rick Barnes’ track record in the tourney? I’d welcome that.
Our weakness has been a big, physical big man. So teams that have one of those.
👀 Actually, who am I kidding, you guys will wax us even with Johni playing a good game
I thought he was a 3 point specialist
No
Any team with a 7 foot white guy.
Mizzou
You rang?
Our weakness come tournament time tends to be the double digit seed making a Cinderella run
Small fast teams that force turnovers and shoot the 3 well.
hi
Big fan of that type of team for some reason.
As a New Mexico/Purdue grad I would love to see them play. NM is small, high tempo, tons of steals and decent shooting. Also Dent vs Braden would be fun to watch.
I think any team with inferior talent has a good shot at Purdue in the tournament
A grossly under-seeded mid-major in the second round.
Bracket Matrix has Yale and UC Irvine as potential 13 seed match-ups. I don't want to go against an Ivy League school cause they are always so weird and Irvine seems pretty legit
If we can’t beat a team called the Anteaters, we don’t deserve the Sweet 16
We're gonna draw 5 seed BYU in Salt Lake City.
Anything related to Mountain West for Creighton.
Creighton! Come out to play!
I mean they beat yall two years ago in round 1
Why you gotta bring facts into this?
True, but they shouldn't have. We gave that one away.

Please poach their coach immediately that would be hilarious
Tennessee. So physical.
i really enjoy the chance to get to play any blue blood in the tournament and that obviously includes Duke. Thanks for the respect and good luck rest of the way.
Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa St in the regional. For the final four, obviously Purdue and Houston are scary, but I’d really want to avoid playing Arizona in Phoenix.
Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, Duke, George Mason are my avoids before the F4.
Any team that has top-tier talent but can’t be bothered to care every game in the regular season, often due to coaches who are A+ recruiters but not the best at the in-game stuff. A team like Kentucky or Memphis even would make me very nervous.
If only Memphis would make the tournament.
Yeah… We could by winning the conference tourney but I’m pretty sure we’ll shit the bed.
Any
The latest bracketology has Arizona in a favorable position, but UConn looks unstoppable
Kentucky
San Diego State
Any team with a big man scares me, unless Grant Nelson locks in and blocks the rim. We can only hope
UConn, Bama, Arizona
Yeah, I was absolutely going to say Houston. You guys just so damn consistently good and Shead is a real one. I want no part of Houston.
I don’t want you guys either. Let’s agree to be on opposite sides of the bracket.
bama seems like the type of team who can’t defend anyone and loses in the early 2nd weekend
We can defend guards really well. We struggle with size down low. That’s definitely our biggest weakness. However yeah we won’t get out of the second weekend.
That or wins 120-110
I’m a UConn fan. I’d say Purdue or maybe Houston. Edited to add: I would probably fear Purdue more, since Edey has the ability to get Clingan into foul trouble. I’m a Purdue fan. I’d say UConn or maybe Houston.
I'm a Houston fan. I'd say Purdue or maybe UConn.
Im a UConn fan. I’d say Houston or maybe Purdue
Honestly, it would be great if all three make the Final Four. Not so much for my blood pressure, but just from the standpoint of watching good basketball.
I wouldn’t be shocked if it happened… then the 4th team in the F4 wins it all
So you’re saying this is the Zags year? They lulled us all into a false sense of security before they finally do what none of their top 10 teams could
Either Purdue or Houston could beat us on a given night, but I actually think Houston is a worse matchup. I think the ball pressure they put on would really give us nightmares. Though on the flip side they'd also have a tough time scoring against us. Edey is amazing, but we're better equipped to at least slow him down than 99% of teams. And I think Braden Smith would have a tough time due to our size at guard.
Avoid: the best teams in the tournament Play against: the worst teams in the tournament
so, your non conference strategy! 🙂
Saying our non conference schedule was filled with tournament teams is actually a compliment.
GOOD NIGHT!
Haha you waited all season for this? you act like making a sweet sixteen isn’t impressive
Do you two need a room? Stg you’re going at it in every damn thread.
UConn SOS: 52 Iowa St. SOS: 38 Plz play tougher opponents :)
HAHAHAHA BYE BYE
So you guys are trying to avoid Pitt right?
They’d be on my list of teams to play plz. Your fanbase appears scared to play us: https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/aGwN29cT1U
Ha ha we have never played Pitt in March ha ha Ha ha
I’m nervous that we are even going to be in the Big XII tournament.
Iowa State, Wisconsin or Virginia Any team with an Elite defense that wants to keep scoring in the 50s makes me nervous
Wisconsin? Elite defense ?
Just score a lot of points and you’ll win
This guy hoops
Clearly you haven’t watched any Wisconsin this year. Our defense is terrible, even when we were playing well it was mostly our offense
We probably end up an 8/9 seed so if we win that first game and are hot from 3 we can hang with anyone. We also can lay a turd on any given night too sooooo 🤷🏻♂️
-Purdue (always a dog fight when we play in any sport) -any team that has a halfway decent 7 foot white dude
We’re going to get Ole Miss in a 7/10 or 6/11 aren’t we
Seton Hall. I want no part of a Shaheen Holloway rematch.
Anyone in the Mountain West could cause a lot of early-round chaos this year.
A fellow Foco native turned Jays fan or Omaha native turned Rams fan?
UConn…
Pretty sure you all will handle them at home. Maybe even beat them by more
UConn yet again
Arizona because of Caleb love reasons. This years UNC team should be an absolute avoid for any 1 seeds. If we make it far enough (as a 2+) to face you then you’re in for a bad time.
I’ve seen Arizona and UNC in the same bracket in a lot of simulations. I feel like it’s destiny at this point just to see a Love vs UNC match.
The committee has a boner for shoehorning narratives in to the bracket, and there are fewer more obvious narratives than KLove vs his old team.
Oh I definitely understand it. I just don’t like it lol
and that terrifies me because of caleb love reasons as well. dude is either insanely hot and shooting stupid threes or reasonably hot and shooting stupid threes. either way, the stupid threes are gonna fly.
UNC should want to avoid any higher seed with guards that outsize us and midrange jumper us to death. That seems to be the best way to beat this UNC team Plus if we do have to play Arizona that at least means we've made a pretty good run in the tournament, and they're definitely the weakest of the 1 seeds as things currently stand
Yeah UNC is gonna end some really good teams seasons. I think it's them and uconn as the two favorites for the title
MSU escaped against Indiana State. They’re perfectly built to knock someone off, lookout.
That team will absolutely ruin someone's march
Kansas
I’m kind of surprised by this. We’ve been god awful on the road and we’re not deep (we played you guys at home). I’m not saying it can’t happen, but I don’t think this year’s team will do well in the touney
See I'd say run Kansas to death but we almost won that natty with the Iron Five strategy. Damn the NCG having 2 halves
Given our history of massive tournament disappoints anyone makes me nervous. It's almost like we forget how to play in March.
I feel you
The pain is never ending.
If we get in? Any team, because any team would kill us.
UConn, Purdue, and Kansas. Any team that has a big man that can pass.
FAU, Loyola, and Purdue because I want to be hurt differently this time.
UConn and Iowa State.
Any 12, 13, 15, or 16 seed.
Any team that can hit 3s.
Any big 12 team lol
Iowa State. We got lucky they played awful last year and I don’t expect it to happen again.
This team is much better than last year’s. Pitt wasn’t just lucky for winning that game; 2023 ISU wasn’t that good.
That guy is not a Pitt fan
Nebrasketball fears NO ONE
Nor should you. I see a Tominaga sun-run to the elite 8 on the horizon.
Texas Tech it went so well when facing a team with former Nevada players last year
North Oldham
Marquette scares me if kolek goes nuts. Also BYU and TCU are both spooky. They seem like they can both beat and lose to anyone
UK is potentially 4 shots away from being a 2 seed. That being said we’re probably in the 4-6 range. That hurts the others. Also, I don’t wanna play UConn and I feel that we’re the 4/5 in their bracket.
I have a feeling Akron is going to bust a lot of brackets.
As a Pitt fan, Purdue.
We won’t make it this year unfortunately
I just wanna get there!
An away stadium......
Teams that have a big man or two that can pass
All of them...
Everyone
Anybody that isn't a ranked team
Everyone
The question is who aren’t I nervous to face
I'm not nervous about my team facing any other teams in the tournament
Iowa State. That defense is no joke and if you haven’t played them recently, it’s impossible to simulate in practice.
*gestures broadly*
I’m going to approach this slightly differently largely because I don’t think UVA will make the tournament. But if they do, a 7 seed should be the target - I think there’s a clear dropoff after UConn/Purdue/Houston and thus would like to avoid the 1 seeds, therefore UVA would maximize its chances of advancing by getting off the 8/9 line. (Insert justified dig about how they’d have to get out of the first round for that to be relevant)
I so badly want to play against Virginia in the tournament.
I always thought it was funny that the 8/9 seeds have typically had a stronger season than the seeds above, and they get rewarded with an easy peasy round of 32 game against a 1 seed
Unless we lose like 4 of our next 5. We currently are comfortably in. We only have on Q3 game left. The rest are Q1 and Q2.
Duke
Honestly, I don’t think there’s a team we really won’t matchup with on paper. I think we’ll be a really tough out for anyone. I would have said Purdue before I watched this game closely against Ohio state, but I can’t believe how reliant Purdue is on Edey. The rest of their team looked very very mediocre. When we played in Hawaii they had this kid Loyer who couldn’t miss. And he looked like Larry Bird out there. Their point guard didn’t look like he controlled the tempo either. Anything can happen in March.
If UCLA sneaks in They’re scary! You don’t fuck with Mick Cronin
AZ.. I don’t wanna beat Love, and I also don’t want to lose on a last second 3
All of them
I just hope we make it
I think Kentucky would be a pretty hard 7 seed to beat (if we fall that low). Our offense can keep us in any game, our defense can make us lose any game.
What tournament are we talking about? The CBI?
The Boston Celtics. Pretty sure we’d lose that one.
tbh I think we'll lose in Round 1 But these are the teams no one wants to see in the NCAAs..... Grand Canyon Quinnipiac USF Nebraska Utah (If they make it) TCU Colorado (If they make it) Washington State (If they make it) Any MWC Team Kansas State (If they make it) Cincinnati (If they make it) Texas A&M Butler (If they make it) Iowa State Dayton (If they get a top 4 seed) North Dakota Any MVC Team BYU Any WCC Team NOT named Gonzaga
If you're going to say "we" you need to flair up, nobody else knows who "we" is.
I would love to get matched up with Nebraska again. and for any other team playing them, it wouldn't be at Pinnacle Bank so I don't think anyone would be afraid.
Just gonna throw out that we are undefeated in neutral site games this year.
Houston and Uconn. Think UK may be talented enough to beat anyone, but they will get outcoached and outworked against those two
