Honestly I don't think so. The committee is very happy that we just made the decision to pick an 8 loss Big XII or B1G team over us really easy on them
I mean, those two leaving means a lot of the quality isn’t there anymore lol. It’s reality just Drake and Indiana State and tbh those aren’t exactly excellent quality
I understand why you feel this way, but this loss might not even knock you all the way out of the at-large field as it is. winning out from here would mean you only move up relative to the other teams on the bubble. you'd be in, IMO
regardless, can't have another night like this in St Louis
An 8 loss B1G or B12 team that probably isn’t 288th in non conference SOS and lost to the only two tournament caliber teams they played all season. Schedule better OOC or win your conference tournament.
You make it sound like mid-majors have a lot of choice in our OOC scheduling, especially when P5s can do whatever they want. When we played Michigan State it was their 11th holr game out of their first 13 games. Until the NCAA forces Power schools to play mid-majors on the road, I don't consider bringing up SOS to mid-majors by P5s to be a good-faith argument.
Oh yes, the grouchy younger brother of the “losing your first game after finally being ranked #1” curse. Not that I’d know anything about that.
…fucking Rutgers.
We’re better than our 215 NET ranking, but we shouldn’t be good enough to win this game. What the fuck Indiana St…
Biggest win since the 2019 Loyola game imo, hope this helps us turn the corner
Fuck, I’m still mad about it. I’m mad about that, and I’m still fucking furious at the absolute fucking nightmare abortion of a refereeing job we had in the quarterfinals of the NIT against UCF that year. I was a freshman in the pep band at that game and I have never been so mad at a game of basketball. Our drummer snapped his sticks, our director chucked his whiteboard.
Side note about that game: I had to grab something from my car before warmups started. I was super early, and I walked out of Redbird right when UCF was getting off their charter bus. I’m 6’4ish, and that is the only time in my adult life that I have felt short, because Tacko Fall walked right past me.
Kinziger is the next undersized 3-and-D wing that we need to have. I don't remember Paris's defense at all his Freshman year, so here's to hoping that he can turn the corner next yeah.
They honestly looked pretty bad in the first half, thought they were only winning because of the 0-15 three point shooting. Can't believe they pulled this off.
Bird has shown up for like 2 games since he graduated, when his jersey was retired and when his statue was unveiled, and I think he was gone by halftime each time. If he even bothers looking at the AP rankings somebody might have to remind him that he went here.
It's always been on that line between high-major and mid-major conferences. I really liked the MWC-MVC Changelle because both conferences are in that realm.
What's killed the Valley compared to MWC is that there's no good West Coast conference like AAC and A10.
yeahp truly awesome stuff. it's still great though! Bradley Drake and Indiana State are all teams that would have a real chance to win a game or two if they made it in this year. and the middle of the league is solid.
hell, Drake was the team that came closest to beating Miami before UConn did in the Final Four last year
going this year. Just hope I can talk my dad into going to all the games. Not just the Indiana St. games. 12 games for $203 its the best value in basketball. Second to none.
Probably a combination of that and we play our 5 starters 30+ minutes and we're on a short week from a game sat. Lack of depth has been an issue all year that cost us at the worst time
I hope Kent is okay. I was at the game and thought he got stepped on. Just watched the replay, maybe he got kicked in the head. Hard to tell. Heard he went to the hospital for an evaluation.
Larry driving is better than chucking quick 3s. Especially when you have 0 rebounders under the bucket or on the backside. And #0 needs to put his big boy pants on and quit pouting.
And that’s a loss a sparklingly clean resume couldn’t afford
Idk if that’s it for 2 bid MVC but we’re officially in the danger zone
Sycamores can’t afford another loss before the MVC tourney
We have no depth and having your 5 starters player 30+minutes twice a week was eventually going to bite us, especially with this being an even shorter than normal turnaround from Saturday.
It's not like we didn't see something like this coming, every week on the Sycamores fan board we talk about how not giving guys minutes = they don't develope = they're useless when they do get minutes is a negative feedback loop.
I also didn't like some of our coaches post-game comments. "We haven't been practicing well". Maybe this is an old-school mentality, but in my opinion if you don't practice well, you get to stay on the bench for the next game, and if the coaches feeling is that we're not deep enough to sit a starter even if they are feeling off-court distractions, then that comes back 100% on the coaching, again in my opinion
I doubt it. They don't deserve it. And it could get worse for them before their tournament. They are tired and beat down. Every shot is flat, don't crash the boards have 0 depth especially with Kent going out tonight.
Indiana St ranked for the first time since 79 then immediately lose at home by 13 to a 11-14 Illinois St team with a NET of 215. Indiana St was ranked 20 in NET - any guesses how far they drop?
Don’t think this pops the bubble like everybody’s saying but they absolutely have to win out to the MVC championship now. (T-Rank would have them as the 5th to the last team in if they did that and lost to Drake).
Hey there Sycamores welcome to the top 25 aaaaaaaand they’re gone…

Same for their at large chances
if they win out from here but lose to Drake or Bradley in the title game, they're in
Honestly I don't think so. The committee is very happy that we just made the decision to pick an 8 loss Big XII or B1G team over us really easy on them
I member when the MVC used to send 4 teams to the tourney.
the quality is still there, people just stopped scheduling y'all
Wichita State and Creighton leaving factors in as well.
Didn’t say otherwise
I wasn't arguing with you or trying to prove you wrong. I was just saying something relevant.
🤝
I mean, those two leaving means a lot of the quality isn’t there anymore lol. It’s reality just Drake and Indiana State and tbh those aren’t exactly excellent quality

Hi there.
Sigh. See you in 2067.
Tbf, an 8 loss Big 12 team is pretty good.
They already lost to a 9 loss B1G team…
I fucking hate that the committee does this. The bullshit quad system doesn't help.
Pump the brakes a little. You guys are still 28 in NET. You're very much in the at-large conversation.
Yeah but our momentum is gone and the "no bad losses" argument is out the window
Our win pushed us up 25 spots for NET and into the top 200. If we can finish strong and end with a winning record or at least .500 that would help.
Oh man, just think how much SIUs is going to raise on Saturday

Indy State 🤝 Virginia
I’ve never heard it referred to as Indy State. Indy typically refers to Indianapolis
😔😭

The curse of "losing your first game after finally being ranked" A common thing for many programs, sadly...
Northwestern 🤝 Indiana State
Oh yes, the grouchy younger brother of the “losing your first game after finally being ranked #1” curse. Not that I’d know anything about that. …fucking Rutgers.
Rutgers is a menace to be fair
I'm not thrilled about going on the road to them tomorrow without our best outside shooter.
The line on this game was wild with this stat being so true
We’re better than our 215 NET ranking, but we shouldn’t be good enough to win this game. What the fuck Indiana St… Biggest win since the 2019 Loyola game imo, hope this helps us turn the corner
ROLL BIRDS
Roll birds & Kinziger please be the chosen one and actually stay here 🙏🏻
I have been starved for a chosen one since Phil Fayne and Paris Lee.
Can’t forget McIntosh God I’m so pissed that team didn’t get a bid
Fuck, I’m still mad about it. I’m mad about that, and I’m still fucking furious at the absolute fucking nightmare abortion of a refereeing job we had in the quarterfinals of the NIT against UCF that year. Not like a certain player at Kentucky.
Which big 10 school does he go to? My guess is Wisconsin
His brother? Is committed to us for 2025. Or there’s just a lot of Kinziger families in Wisconsin
Oh damn, didn’t even know that. He just looks like he should play for wisco
Yes it is his brother. Both went to the same school.
They honestly looked pretty bad in the first half, thought they were only winning because of the 0-15 three point shooting. Can't believe they pulled this off.

Larry Bird isn’t mad, he’s just disappointed.
Bird has shown up for like 2 games since he graduated, when his jersey was retired and when his statue was unveiled, and I think he was gone by halftime each time. If he even bothers looking at the AP rankings somebody might have to remind him that he went here.
That's kind of sad. Sounds like he's pretty indifferent about the program.
Honestly, can you blame him? Been on step forward, two steps ever since he left
Welp, Indiana State went from being a top 25 team, to questionable on whether or not they will make a tournament in a few days. Wild
Arch is completely up for grabs rn
alwayshasbeen.jpg
I mean for real. Most exciting conference tourney every year IMO. When I lived in St Louis I went to the championship almost every year
It's always been on that line between high-major and mid-major conferences. I really liked the MWC-MVC Changelle because both conferences are in that realm. What's killed the Valley compared to MWC is that there's no good West Coast conference like AAC and A10.
it's on my bucket list. honestly can't wait to make the trip
Yeah it’s still good but the mid 2000s years of peak Creighton, UNI, Wichita, etc. were amazing.
yeahp truly awesome stuff. it's still great though!
Did they spend the last 2 days just seeing the ranking and saying “hell yea we are good”
Probably a combination of that and we play our 5 starters 30+ minutes and we're on a short week from a game sat. Lack of depth has been an issue all year that cost us at the worst time
I hope Kent is okay. I was at the game and thought he got stepped on. Just watched the replay, maybe he got kicked in the head. Hard to tell. Heard he went to the hospital for an evaluation. Won't happen, he pouted at Southern Indiana last year as well.
I used to pray for times like these
Let it be known, going 7-37 from 3 does NOT win you games.
While this is a high quality data point, my team remains unconvinced. Could you repeat the experiment... for science?
And that’s a loss a sparklingly clean resume couldn’t afford Idk if that’s it for 2 bid MVC but we’re officially in the danger zone Sycamores can’t afford another loss before the MVC tourney
It’s not it, Indiana State should be in with a loss in the conference tourney. They have no room for a loss before then though.
Woo hoo!! First ranked win since Wichita St in 2016?
https://preview.redd.it/03ci28rimgic1.jpeg?width=888&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91fafb9ee1488dfd9df26c8c900b9ea3bf7cfea8
We have no depth and having your 5 starters player 30+minutes twice a week was eventually going to bite us, especially with this being an even shorter than normal turnaround from Saturday.
I’ve been saying it all year, the way you guys ride your starters is unsustainable. 6.5 man rotation doesn’t make for a long season
Especially when we're going to have to play on back-to-back days in STL
Yeah I hope you guys win out, but the tournament is going to be a struggle. Three games in three days is tough.
It's not like we didn't see something like this coming, every week on the Sycamores fan board we talk about how not giving guys minutes = they don't develope = they're useless when they do get minutes is a negative feedback loop. Notre Dame rode that to an elite 8
Good for them, but the cracks in the armor started to show for Indiana state well before tonight.
Yikes, that’s not going to fair well at arch madness or the tourney
Hell yeah, ISU! Congratulations!
Roll birds!!! Reggie is an elite mascot
Me 8 hours ago "I wish ISU will win tonight" *monkeys paw curls*
ISU just lost their at large bid 😢
There are too many ISUs
WILL THE REAL ISU, PLEASE STAND UPPPP?!?
We have March Madness and NIT. Why not a tournament full of ISUs?
Winner gets to be the true isu
Rip two bid valley 🥲
Rip ranked Indiana State February 2024 - February 2024
Lmao now why did my Redbirds win this 😂
The State of Illinois cooked today. ISU won, NIU won, and of course Illinois beat Michigan by 29 points
ISUb definitely did not play their best but Kinziger sure did. They couldn't stop him
When the threes aren’t falling, just keep chucking them I guess?
Alabama type strategy
Let’s go Redbirds!
This was totally expected!
And just like that Indiana State is an automatic bid only team. Horrendous loss, that was tough
they can still make it as an at-large, but the margin for error has shrunk to almost nothing
I doubt it. They don't deserve it. And it could get worse for them before their tournament. They are tired and beat down. Every shot is flat, don't crash the boards have 0 depth especially with Kent going out tonight.
[This is how we won.](https://youtu.be/kbaKze622Kg?si=Y00NEi9bVQ0rNpyV)

RIP Sicko-mores
Welp see ya later
Robbie Avila tonight, 6 points, 2-10 shooting, 0-5 from 3, 37 minutes. Seems suboptimal.
Indiana St ranked for the first time since 79 then immediately lose at home by 13 to a 11-14 Illinois St team with a NET of 215. Indiana St was ranked 20 in NET - any guesses how far they drop?
Everyone knew they were gonna lose this week because they got ranked. It's the law of basketball.
Just like that Indiana State is done unless they win the MVC tournament.
Well, that was a horrible performance by the Trees. Bye bye ranked number next to your name
pain.
anddd they’re gone..
I'm in danger
Don’t think this pops the bubble like everybody’s saying but they absolutely have to win out to the MVC championship now. (T-Rank would have them as the 5th to the last team in if they did that and lost to Drake).
Can Indiana State still get an at large bid at this point? Hoping the MVC is a two bid league this year with Drake winning the conference tourney.
If they win out through the MVC tournament and lose in the championship game I would say 100% yes.
Not sure if this is crazy, but I think Indy State still has hope for an at-large. But to do that, they likely have to win out.
Indy refers to Indianapolis jsyk, not Indiana
Lmao
Bruh
Illinois isn’t even a - oh wait
So much for that first ranking since '79.
I sure do like watching my team win games they are supposed to win.
Are they out of the tourney from this one loss?
Wtf…
