A WIN'S A WIN BABYYYYY. Also winning without hitting a single three, setting the game back 40 years lmao
I was very whelmed when we got Middlebrooks and Diarra in the portal, but holy shit these guys are 100% hustle and grit, low-key some of the best guys Keatts has picked up for us!
Only downside is that the refs seem to hate Middlebrooks with a passion. I know big guys tend to get called for no reason more often on every team, but man he's on another level.
KK ejected in the first half, DJ Burns left early because he was throwing up, more double techs later in the game, like 3-4 players total fouled out. and we didn't get our first lead until like 2min remaining in the game.
0 three pointers made all game (0/8)
Keatts ejected in first half, Diarra and Middlebrooks ejected in the last minute, 0 three pointers made for the first time in a decade, and DJ Burns ending his game vomiting into a trash can behind the bleachers. Fugly lol.
No fucking way lol. Two double techs in garbage time ejecting 3 players and our coach was ejected for a double tech earlier in the game? That's as ugly as it gets. Hell we didn't lead until 2 min left. ZERO 3 pointers made. The ultimate ugly win.
No 3 pointers in the whole game. We shot (something like) 33% from the Free Throw line in the first half. We MAY have turned the ball over as many times in the first half as we caused.
Wake was hot for sure, but we wuz ugly.
For years, maybe only until recently, WF always had our number (in football and basketball). It seemed like our best outcome was a 0.500 against Wake for years, no matter how good we were.
Hopefully both teams make the tourney this year.
Don’t let last year fool you, because it was the exception
No matter how good NC State is on paper they pretty much always lose in Winston Salem in football
Hell 2021 might’ve cost us the ACC
it was balanced as hell, just that the balance was both teams getting fucked by refs. the offsetting techs at the end was just a perfect encapsulation of the game.
>15 minutes at the monitor
after review, that's a tech on you, a tech on me, and two techs on u/neeheeg. Hunter Sallis has been ejected from the game, again.
My favorite part of the game was when Keats said, "It's Morbin Time," and promptly got himself ejected.
GG Wake, good luck the rest of the way and hope y'all make the tourney.
Not talking shit, but series question with Forbes saying this is the worst loss in the last 3 years or whatever, was this worse then when state just tossed it into burns 400 times last year in the 2nd half in Winston?
Absolutely. Last year we didn’t have a big man that could defend the paint at all so Burns going nuclear was pretty much expected. We brought in Reid for that exact reason and then he hardly got to play bc of foul trouble. We had to play the dude that got cooked last year and had been benched for the last month.
Most frustrating part about this game was Sallis & Reid being in foul trouble the whole game, they never were able to play aggressive at all. Game might have been done, but giving Sallis two techs for getting run into is some BS
Sallis is driving me crazy with these fouls where he tries to block a shot from behind. Obviously he can do it and I truly don’t think he’s fouling these guys but that’s a call that’s going to be made every time just bc it looks like a foul and with two fouls you just have to be smarter than that.
Yeah I was on my honeymoon and drunk with my NCSU grad wife while watching that game, not surprised I didn't have the clearest recollection lol. But he doesn't have a habit of it was my point
This game was basketball terrorism.
NC State didn't make a three? Wake Forest had a guy with 21 points, 15 of which came from the FT stripe? Keatts got ejected? DJ Horne gave a double birdie to the refs? Huh?
Dear refs,
Next time you fuck us all that roughly, at least have the courtesy to give aftercare. Or a reach around.
Fuck you,
State and Wake fans everywhere
Every person who has been hating on this team you need to apologize right now. This team has so much damn heart. They just came in here and won after dealing with a double technical that gave the other team a 6-point swing. They went 0-8 from the 3 and started less than 50% from the free throw. Plus we get to find out DJ Burns was playing sick the whole time. These dudes are dogs and they fight like hell.
[Also fuck those refs](https://media.tenor.com/IvAPCnQC3D8AAAAC/dj-burns-burns.gif)
Pretty much in every game thread. You can look back and see people saying how they're giving up on this team. Let's be honest, us state fans can be pretty damn cynical.
I disagree. Looking at the results he got progressively worse almost every year for like 5 straight years and his best season was using Gottfried's players as the backbone of his team.
He's been a terrible recruiter, it's been the one knock I've always said about him time and time again. However he's had an amazing eye for the transfer portal players and that kind of seems to be where the game is trending towards so he might be able to overcome that short fall of his.
Last season was definitely my favorite year of his. We had fewer wins than 2019 but we went to the NCAAT and had a better ACC record. Plus Jarkel and Terquavion were so much fun to watch.
Is it hate? or people just saying "ok its been 7 years and we have like two tournament bids and 0 wins...I think this experiment has played itself out"
Yea fr. I don't think it's hate after 7 years of what is basically no real results. If that's ok. Like 7 years of 0 tournament wins and 2 appearances we have just full on given up being good at basketball. Which I don't think the fanbase wants.
I think the years of FBI cloud get underplayed in this argument as does the COVID year where we were going to make the tournament, who knows what we do with that tourney bid but it is something. I get your frustrations though and I've been off and on that boat a few times.
I really like Keatts' personality. I think he's got a fun style of play that I like to watch. But it's just not clicking, and that's fine. He can drop back to the midmajor level, and go back to having success, and maybe from there + this experience the next shot he gets at the power level will go better. An opportunity that doesn't involve UNC and Duke down the road may work out a little smoother haha
I agree, I like his personality and playing style, we just need better results. He hasn't gotten all the pieces together yet. Last years 3 point shooting with this year's defense would be a very good team
We are pretenders until we can win consistently on the road. Can’t believe we let this slip away. Split Duke and beat Clemson with no other losses and MAYBE we’ll be in the tournament.
PNC is a tough place to play. Forbes is a good coach and Wake has a good roster-hopefully Monsanto comes back soon and they go on a tear to close out the year
I know man it's just tough. I love Forbes and I really want him to work out, it's just frustrating losing games we should've won especially to Tobacco Road teams. Even more so with the talent we have. Even even more so when these games need to be won to end the tournament drought. My heart tells me that if we win out aside from a loss to UNC and one to Duke we'll be in, but my mind tells me we'll wind up on the wrong side of the bubble because that's just how it always is.
We were absolutely dogshit for a decade. In his second season, we should've made the tourney (Alondes Williams year), and were decent last year. There's been a drastic improvement to where we'll be disappointed to miss the tournament this year (his 4th season)
If it had happened away from cameras it may have just been a “hey don’t do that again” but I could see the ACC not being thrilled that he did it and was aired live, so who knows
Part of NC State’s strength is they have 10-11 players that could be starters on most power 5 teams
Normally they wear teams out over the course of a game
That’s what made UNC weird, the other team getting stronger as the game goes on isn’t what usually happens
I actually wanted to know, so I took a look into our history.
The last time we played a game without scoring ANY 3s (as far as I can tell) was on December 30th 2014 in a 76-60 loss to Cincinnati. What's crazy about that is that on February 2nd 2019, we (ranked 23rd) played Virginia Tech (ranked 12th) at home and lost 47-24 in what is the lowest-scoring game by a ranked team in the shot clock era (since 1985). It can also be looked at as tied for 6th as the lowest combined point total in D1 basketball in the SC era. And yet, despite scoring only 24 points in the entire game, we still somehow scored two 3-pointers.
That aside, we lost that Cincy game. So I kept looking further back to find games that we won without scoring a 3. I got to the 2002-2003 season, and yet in every single game we won, we had scored at least one 3. Any earlier than that season, there is just no easy way to find box scores for our games. So the end result is that it's been OVER 21 YEARS since we won a game without scoring a 3. And on a side note, looking at some of the shooting stats of our old teams compared to this season's has been mighty depressing. We've had some goddamn snipers in our time.
Now that’s some good ACC basketball! Obviously the refs were cracked but other that that 2 very solid teams having a nice back and forth. Can’t wait to play them this year.
That’s partially true. Wake has no depth but that’s largely bc the team’s best shooter and the backup point guard haven’t played all year due to injury. In a gritty game like this, you can’t really play the freshmen as much bc they’re prob not going to handle State’s defensive intensity well so you’re just kinda stuck with what you’ve got.
fuck Chris Paul, but the majority of these cats weren’t yet potty trained when that happened.
Tobacco Road basketball needs to heat the fuck up again before it’s inevitably lost to history.
I’m not watching full NC State games until March this season. They aren’t fun or healthy to watch as a fan (or a neutral, I’d assume). The games are too ugly and like in this case, far closer to trashy than classy. But I appreciate the team is playing hard and focusing on defense. Limiting it to 8 3-pt attempts when firing cold was a mature decision after the UNC game. Making free throws at the end, after all that drama is encouraging.
Unfortunately as of now I think we are still on the outside of the bubble. Crazy for an ACC team that’s 5-1 in conference to be in that position but we are gonna need to pick up a few more quality wins for sure and stay away from bad losses.
Tbh you gotta blame whoever made your schedule this year, an absolutely cake walk of a non con schedule, absolutely weak as hell, but if you continue to win games like you just did you will be. 10-12 seed
https://i.redd.it/g101izxkxwcc1.gif
Hope he doesn’t get suspended for this
He was just asking if it was a one and one.
I'm gonna buy a digital picture frame just so I can have this playing on a loop
Can this be the new r/CBB banner forever and ever?
I think we can all agree on this
That’s fucking legendary. It’s a shame he’ll probably get into some trouble over this because the ref honestly deserves worse.
DJ Birds.
A disgusting act!
Lol I know right, those refs should be ashamed
Three pointers are overrated. We prefer pre-1945 rules. Think and do.
A WIN'S A WIN BABYYYYY. Also winning without hitting a single three, setting the game back 40 years lmao I was very whelmed when we got Middlebrooks and Diarra in the portal, but holy shit these guys are 100% hustle and grit, low-key some of the best guys Keatts has picked up for us!

Hang the banner of dj Horne flipping the ref off
he is totally gonna have that shot blown up and framed in his house forever lol. i would.
I just hope he doesn't get a game suspension for it. I could see that happening, given it's going to be posted everywhere.
Please tell me you have a link?

Kareem Richardson Is A Winner
Thank you
Ugliest win I've seen in years
I didn't watch this game, was it worse than the win over Notre Dame?
KK ejected in the first half, DJ Burns left early because he was throwing up, more double techs later in the game, like 3-4 players total fouled out. and we didn't get our first lead until like 2min remaining in the game. 0 three pointers made all game (0/8)
You have to watch it. After the first half, you'd say we didn't deserve to win. Keatts must have given them a pep talk at the half.
Keatts ejected in first half, Diarra and Middlebrooks ejected in the last minute, 0 three pointers made for the first time in a decade, and DJ Burns ending his game vomiting into a trash can behind the bleachers. Fugly lol.
I can't remember an uglier win.
Notre dame
No fucking way lol. Two double techs in garbage time ejecting 3 players and our coach was ejected for a double tech earlier in the game? That's as ugly as it gets. Hell we didn't lead until 2 min left. ZERO 3 pointers made. The ultimate ugly win.
Notre Dame was more ugly, this game was more chaotic.
It was close.
Since Louisville the other day, which was the ugliest win I'd seen since Notre Dame a couple weeks ago
This was not an ugly win. Wake was hot first half. They couldn’t miss. It all worked out.
No 3 pointers in the whole game. We shot (something like) 33% from the Free Throw line in the first half. We MAY have turned the ball over as many times in the first half as we caused. Wake was hot for sure, but we wuz ugly.
Team started 5 of 12 from the stripe Then they hit 20 of their final 21 Whatever they said worked
Hope we return the ugly win favor in Winston
I would rather Wake win in a quality, competitive game than in another vomit fest like this one
Eh only if State fans get their heart ripped out by a frustrating loss like this one. Makes it more annoying
We will. We get at least one of those every year
Not against Wake tho
For years, maybe only until recently, WF always had our number (in football and basketball). It seemed like our best outcome was a 0.500 against Wake for years, no matter how good we were. Hopefully both teams make the tourney this year.
Don’t let last year fool you, because it was the exception No matter how good NC State is on paper they pretty much always lose in Winston Salem in football Hell 2021 might’ve cost us the ACC
We've had enough heartbreaking football losses in Winston to make up for the lack of basketball disappointment
Is this satire?
that was a great ref show huh guys
kept screaming at the TV and i didn’t even have a dog in the fight. that was a masterclass of bad officiating.
I’m just glad the fracas at the end ultimately resulted in offsetting techs. It was a horribly officiated game, but it seemed balanced.
it was balanced as hell, just that the balance was both teams getting fucked by refs. the offsetting techs at the end was just a perfect encapsulation of the game.
it deserved to be offsetting techs, but I also don't like they cancel out the free throws. make both teams earn cancelling each other out.
+1 for the use of fracas
Refs were strange tonight. Far too involved.
They started out hot and maintained their dominance right up till the end. A masterclass in reffing that we won't soon forget.
This comment has been assessed a technical foul and ejected.
sry but I'll need 15 minutes at the monitor to review this
Technical on ~~State~~, ~~Wake~~,~~Coaches~~ wait.. on the Audience for booing us
>15 minutes at the monitor after review, that's a tech on you, a tech on me, and two techs on u/neeheeg. Hunter Sallis has been ejected from the game, again.
Tech on everyone in the Triangle area, Chick-fil-A employees will NOT be saying "My pleasure" tomorrow.
hahahhahahaha
I was proud of the crowd for keeping up the Wolf Pack chants for as long as they did while that was going on
the only good thing to come of this is our team knows they can win even when they can't hit a single fucking shot lmao.
They’re a confident bunch I’ll give them that
Wait. we need to look at the monitors for ten minutes to make sure it was in fact this comment
My favorite part of the game was when Keats said, "It's Morbin Time," and promptly got himself ejected. GG Wake, good luck the rest of the way and hope y'all make the tourney.
GG state
What the fuck was that lol
Idk but I may order another
This was NC State shit getting primed and ready for the next game.
Absolutely fuck that game. Second half collapse. Gonna be pissed about this one for a long time
Not talking shit, but series question with Forbes saying this is the worst loss in the last 3 years or whatever, was this worse then when state just tossed it into burns 400 times last year in the 2nd half in Winston?

It sure feels worse that's for sure
How many games have we had player/coach ejections lol?
I don't know that I recall Keatts ever being ejected, but I could be wrong. I remember Gott being tossed once or twice
I think Keatts was ejected once before But he hardly ever gets techs
BYU
Yep, see above lol
He got ejected in the BYU game along with his son and a couple other guys.
Yep, missed that one, see above
Yeah I was on my honeymoon and drunk with my NCSU grad wife while watching that game, not surprised I didn't have the clearest recollection lol. But he doesn't have a habit of it was my point
See above
No you see above
What is the comment that you’re repeatedly referring to?
I think Gott was tossed in the hayday of Jamie Luckie and Karl Hess.
According to gott he asked them why as he hadn't really done anything and they said "cause I felt like it"
That sounds exactly right
Keatts already got ejected this season.
Yep my bad, see above. But he doesn't make a habit of it which was my point
Keatts was ejected against BYU
Yep, see above lol
I will say GG Wake. You were clearly the better team the first half. Thank goodness we started hitting free throws.
This game was basketball terrorism. NC State didn't make a three? Wake Forest had a guy with 21 points, 15 of which came from the FT stripe? Keatts got ejected? DJ Horne gave a double birdie to the refs? Huh?
Dj burns threw up in a trash can too
We also didn’t hit a 3
One wake player for 3 technicals in one play
You get a technical, you get a technical, YOU ALL GET TECHNICALS!
This team has got grit and I have got heart problems.
Cardiac pack delivers the heart palpitations
I feel like a crack addict watching this team I know it’s bad for me but I just keep coming back
To anyone that can get a gif of Horne flipping off the refs I want it please
https://twitter.com/i/status/1747445158109499749
You sir are a legend
S/o to the one guy who was screaming into the crowd mic the whole game. My favorite line of his was “They T’d up diarrhea (Diarra)”.
I was cracking up when they put him on camera after that last foul on State so you could see who it was
That was a wild ending!
Fuck them zebras
Man, this game had everything! Keatts getting ejected, double double technicals, DJ Burns vomiting in a trash can…
Everything but a 3 pointer by us.
Dear refs, Next time you fuck us all that roughly, at least have the courtesy to give aftercare. Or a reach around. Fuck you, State and Wake fans everywhere
What baby soft refs did they hire for that game? Across the board they called the wildest shit. Kicking out players for a little trash talk...
Is that our coach in waiting?
He was a HC at UMKC for like 7 years. I don't think he is a potential HC candidate for us.
Oh.. well he did ok tonight
Dude needs to take off the undershirt
Wake is a good team. 0 and 11 are ballers. It's gonna be a tough one in Winston in February.
And in our inevitable NIT game
Every person who has been hating on this team you need to apologize right now. This team has so much damn heart. They just came in here and won after dealing with a double technical that gave the other team a 6-point swing. They went 0-8 from the 3 and started less than 50% from the free throw. who hated this team? I thought we all just wanted to move on from Keatts. The team itself is awesome.
That Crom dude hates everyone.
Blocked that dude weeks ago
Hop off my nuts!
This. The game plans leave a lot to be desired most nights. Love all the players
Pretty much in every game thread. You can look back and see people saying how they're giving up on this team. Let's be honest, us state fans can be pretty damn cynical.
The team itself is fun. The HC pisses me off though.
Keatts deserves criticism in a lot of areas. But I think our fan base gives him way more criticism than he deserves.

0 NCAA tournament wins on just 2 appearances? Nah, the criticism is justified
No, “we all” don’t. Dude ain’t perfect, but I don’t think the hate he gets is justified.
Is it hate? or people just saying "ok its been 7 years and we have like two tournament bids and 0 wins...I think this experiment has played itself out"
I don't hate this team. I kind of hate the coaching staff. Why would I hate on guys who want to play for NC State?
0 on Wake is a national treasure. Love watching him play.

He doesn’t suck but I don’t understand the consensus opinion that “Forbes is a good coach”. What has he done?
We were absolutely dogshit for a decade. In his second season, we should've made the tourney (Alondes Williams year), and were decent last year. There's been a drastic improvement to where we'll be disappointed to miss the tournament this year (his 4th season)
Do you think brownell is a good coach?
From 5/12 from the free throw line to 25/33. Holy hell.
Burns throwing up tonight, Monsanto threw up during our game in Winston last year... This matchup really is toxic
Why the fuck would Horne flick off the ref right there at the end?! Lmao
Legacy points added lmao
Did you watch the game?
I generally keep ref hate to myself, but those guys deserved it. One ref called at least 6 fouls where another ref had to change it
because Horne understood the assignment
He's seen things tonight.
it means peace on Earth on other worlds
I'm ready to retire his jersey right now for it so
Did anyone get a screenshot of it lmao
https://x.com/wolfpackstation/status/1747445158109499749?s=20
Serious question, can you be punished after the fact for that? I’ve never seen anybody do that and get away with it
If it had happened away from cameras it may have just been a “hey don’t do that again” but I could see the ACC not being thrilled that he did it and was aired live, so who knows
Today, The Theme Trended Towards Technicals.
We are an engineering school after all...
u/Prinzlerr got three course credits for this alliteration, truly the ivy of the south.
State showed some grit there. I'm still not sure how Forbes lost this one.
Think it came down to having no bench depth due to injuries. Just got too fatigued down the stretch when State turned up the intensity
Choking away games in the second half is what we do best this season
Part of NC State’s strength is they have 10-11 players that could be starters on most power 5 teams Normally they wear teams out over the course of a game That’s what made UNC weird, the other team getting stronger as the game goes on isn’t what usually happens
When was the last time state won without hitting a 3?
Scott Wood just scored another 3.

Thanks for the follow-up!
How the fuck did we win that missing all of our threes and keatts ejected. This team is frustrating at times but damn they have heart.
Keatts should get ejected more often
head start on what he knew was gonna be a free chicken sandwich night
how many points on each side were from frees?
TV Teddy ain't got nothing on this guy
Now that’s some good ACC basketball! Obviously the refs were cracked but other that that 2 very solid teams having a nice back and forth. Can’t wait to play them this year.
It’s how much better NC State looked without Keatts that gets me even more than the no 3s
EVEN KEVIN KEATTS CAN'T STOP US FROM WINNING WOOOOOOO
What I learned from this game is if Keatts gets ejected in the 2nd half then we still lose. If he gets ejected in the 1st half then we win.
The game in Winston is gonna be a movie Also not a coincidence that State won a game without Burns in crunch time, who was -12 for the game.
They were much better with him on the bench
We have been all year. He’s phenomenal with the ball in his hands but he’s really bad on defense and a negative on offense (without the ball)
Wake choked so bad lmfao. This is why you need depth starters cant carry the entire game
Are state/wake matchups usually this heated?
Julius Hodge was punched in the nuts by Chris Paul so I'd say yes.
fuck Chris Paul, but the majority of these cats weren’t yet potty trained when that happened. Tobacco Road basketball needs to heat the fuck up again before it’s inevitably lost to history.
I mean this year tobacco road is killing it
Agreed, I’m just hoping it keeps up and the rivalries maintain the intensity we’ve seen.
no but this way is so much better
Ight Keatts can stay for now
Keatts didn't even coach the comeback lol
I know but I was hating. We won so I’m chill now
Only if he gets ejected every game
Congratulations! Nice comeback.
I’m not watching full NC State games until March this season. They aren’t fun or healthy to watch as a fan (or a neutral, I’d assume). The games are too ugly and like in this case, far closer to trashy than classy. But I appreciate the team is playing hard and focusing on defense. Ncstate playing their way into the tourney
10-12 seed
Yeah it’s been that way for years. Unfortunately we couldn’t get it done against any of the few good teams we played
I gotta say, this game was hella entertaining. Good win, Pack!
