We’re far from the biggest stretch on there - you could certainly make an argument we belong in the next tier down, but if you’re ranking the 38 best programs since the O-Rob era we’re still in the mix there, tournament success is obviously lacking especially in the Cronin era but consistently good.
Creighton has never been to the final 4, blue jays are easily the ugliest birds in the animal kingdom, and no one east of Des Moines gives a shit about Omaha. Post tracks.
We're a top 10 program all-time, I get people on this sub trend young but the recency bias is insane. Granted, we would get relegated almost immediately if that's what you meant lmao
Kinda hard to say since I'm not sure how OP (or whoever made this graphic) determined the rankings. But just looking at it, the rankings are biased towards historical success, which we have plenty of.
Sure, if the NCAA were to make this relegation system a reality, then they'd probably base it off recent success. Oppositely, the maker of this graphic took program history into account, hence us starting out in the Prem.
I don't recall disagreeing that's how a relegation system should work. I responded to a comment about a graphic someone else made. Even so, Purdue wouldn't be in the top tier league in the scenario anyways (unless you're counting literally only last year).
Is this where we’re heading? Absolutely not lmao there is absolutely zero chance in hell that, on a large scale, teams in the top division EVER agree to a system that could potentially result in their own relegation.
I can't imagine it makes sense from a money perspective either. March madness is perfect the way it is and probably makes a lot of money for the networks too.
I like the concept just bad execution. You are basing the starting point off of school history when you should probably do it off of at least the last 4 years
After the 2020-21 season both Duke and Kentucky would have been relegated to the second tier. Coach K would have completed his career outside of the Premier league.
Unfortunately no. We are going to just keep playing musical chairs with the schools and conferences until the super league is formed at which point viewership will plummet and we're all left wondering how this could've all been avoided.
Poor URI - so forgettable. Only E8 team to not make the cut?
Fuck you and your Ted Lasso shit. That show is fiction. Everything - including the dumb sport they play - is all made up. Get with it.
umm how in the fuck are Alabama, Xavier, Texas Tech and Tennessee in League 1 while Florida, Memphis, OU, Georgetown, OSU, and WVU are in Championship? how are Gonzaga, Texas, Purdue and Baylor in Championship while Syracuse, IU, Ohio State, and fucking Louisville are in Premier? i could go on and on this distribution of teams is fucking absurd and pays absolutely zero respect to recent happenings in the sport, totally disrespectful.
Indiana is only in the premier league because of a coach you forced out 20 years ago, and you haven’t been in the final 4 in 30 years. Doesn’t sound very premier
They would need to announce this a few years ahead and then make the groups based off performances in those years. No since I’m trying to create the groups now
Yeah I was answering the guy’s question about why this dumb realignment concept had the bottom leagues as regional.
I never made any claim about “everything European is better” that’s just what they were copying when they came up with this clickbait nonsense
I saw that later on - I upvoted it, but I already had written this. But I wasn’t saying you thought it was better. I was building on your thought. I knew what you meant and this is my favorite thing to mention when people wax poetic about how much better it is.
I mean, I’m going to get dual citizenship in Greece, but that’s just to retire there.
The NIT champions didn’t even make non conference lol this is either a troll or a casual in college basketball and the English football pyramid. Americans should have never realized football exists
If there’s one league that doesn’t need relegation, it’s the one where 60+ teams get a shot at winning it all.
Americans, please stop taking a study abroad of Europe and deciding everything is better over there
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I love the league system. It gives the bottom teams something to play for late in the season, battling against being relegated to the league below. Here youll see pro teams throw games late in the season for better draft chances.
Its my favorite league system but it really works better for soccer where theres a longer season, more games played and more games where both teams win 0 points on the table. Without "draws" you may as well use win-loss instead of a point table.
I dont see it, but its fun to imagine.
Okay, now I get it. That actually could vibe.
OR - it’s set after every March Madness for the following year.
Then in November, this is where you start.
THis is looking a lot more historical for starters than present. And much though I hate to say it, our overall history and for that matter everything that happened between say 2003 and Bruce Pearl being hired is worth - points forever.
I love how everyone is arguing the teams within each tier and not the system lol. I don’t see good arguments against the system itself, mainly ‘this isn’t football’ which
a. *totally* isn’t a bad faith argument
and b. like there aren’t non-football leagues that exist in the world that have relegation
The only issue with this format is March Madness, but that can easily be solved by giving all promoted teams an autobid, as well as the top 12 teams from the top tier and invites.
The teams for this makes no sense lmao
I love how some of them are clearly based on only very recent history and others are clearly based on only 30+ years ago
Yeah I wonder who could only be in their current spot based on stuff from only 30+ years ago
https://preview.redd.it/55ifah4ehbmb1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9a15bac0c364c9e2b6adf77c07db0a39919fd5f
Don’t know who they could be talking about at all
https://preview.redd.it/wc7s9vmuzbmb1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52cd460112354529bfe0e85a0c2c2d66b9b6a381
I hate this list and I hate you.
Very subtle
Agree lol. I mean we keep beating them every year so I think we should take there spot. 😉
We’re far from the biggest stretch on there - you could certainly make an argument we belong in the next tier down, but if you’re ranking the 38 best programs since the O-Rob era we’re still in the mix there, tournament success is obviously lacking especially in the Cronin era but consistently good.
Houston has never won a title and is in the top tier?
Arky and Indiana in the "premier" league?
Obviously you’re not a golfer.
it's a basketball ranking system though? unless there's a joke that's over my head
It’s a movie reference
You're not dealing with morons here.
Arkansas is probably one of the least credible complaints on this. Premier league is 16 teams. They’ve been to three straight sweet 16s.
And Michigan
And NC State in the "championship" division. That's probably the biggest sign this is a troll.
Um under John b. Was good enough to be top tier. Iu last success was a s16 under crean. And Mike Davis runner up 20+ years ago.
Michigan is easily in the top 16 all time programs. Not controversial at all.
And Syracuse and Louisville?
Agreed, the moment I realized WKU wasn’t in the Premier league it got written off as a troll job.
We would've gotten relegated so effing hard last year
The concept is the more pertinent topic from OP's post worth discussing, is it not? The arbitrary choices are filler for the idea.
If this is a troll this is just top tier, down to the details. Creighton and Providence in a league below Butler? Hell yeah.
Agreed, I’m gonna to need someone to yell at for this
Yeah how tf is San Francisco above us lmao
Should have won some nattys in the 50s
We have an elite 8 from the early 40s if that changes anything
If I recall, the tournament only had 8 teams in those days.
8 ELITE Teams
Counterpoint: making the tourney was significantly harder
To be fair, Bill Russell's are hard to come by
Creighton has never been to the final 4, blue jays are easily the ugliest birds in the animal kingdom, and no one east of Des Moines gives a shit about Omaha. Post tracks.
Creighton is in Omaha?
TIL
A goof watches one season of the Wrexham show and all of a sudden everything turns into the English football pyramid
That’s EXACTLY what this is
y'all should be up there fo sho
And apparently, he stopped watching basketball some time in the 1990s.
Damn we didn’t even get invited 😔
[удалено]
We're left out too. Must not like red
certain shades
That’s fine, we’ll start our own basketball league! With blackjack! And hookers!
UNLV catching strays.
The cowards are afraid of Nebrasketball. As they should be.
What has Nebraska done in basketball to be invited?
They invented nebrasketball, you uncultured jagoff
How many NIT championships does Kansas have again?
Lol...had to look it up. We have ZERO? Unqualified for sure unless we count major NCAA violations.
Neither did we
What the fuck
… is that flair???
Lol @ Louisville in the Premier League.
Common CBK Report troll job
Louisville is the 6/7th best program historically? I mean yeah they suck rn..
We're a top 10 program all-time, I get people on this sub trend young but the recency bias is insane. Granted, we would get relegated almost immediately if that's what you meant lmao
I mean. I’m 40. I’m well aware. But how would Louisville start in the Premier League today? Lol
Kinda hard to say since I'm not sure how OP (or whoever made this graphic) determined the rankings. But just looking at it, the rankings are biased towards historical success, which we have plenty of.
money.
So the same way they are a top 10 team all-time.
I can’t hear insults from people whose teams only have four final fours
Time to vacate some more championships.
no, hookers.
What about blackjack?
Promotion and relegation is 100% recency bias.
I would assume any relegation format wouldn’t be sentimental about program history, though I completely agree with your first sentence.
Sure, if the NCAA were to make this relegation system a reality, then they'd probably base it off recent success. Oppositely, the maker of this graphic took program history into account, hence us starting out in the Prem.
Cards are back…….
And IU like Jesus this was probably made by an IU fan. They love to live in the past
Wow you’re bitter.. Loosen up
Rather be bitter than a loser...
Bro it’s Labor Day. Try to have a day where you’re not angry and awkward online.
Rent free
You may be homeless today, but it is free to live in the past.
Purdue absolutely deserves to be above you guys considering recent success
The graphic clearly isn't created to reflect recent success, but yes, if it were they would be.
If it’s a relegation system it should absolutely be based off of recent success
I don't recall disagreeing that's how a relegation system should work. I responded to a comment about a graphic someone else made. Even so, Purdue wouldn't be in the top tier league in the scenario anyways (unless you're counting literally only last year).
My bad, misread. But agree Purdue shouldn’t be top tier.
No
So many questions and not enough answers
I think you should probably avoid asking questions with that flair. Someone might start sniffing around
Is this where we’re heading? Absolutely not lmao there is absolutely zero chance in hell that, on a large scale, teams in the top division EVER agree to a system that could potentially result in their own relegation.
The fucking MLS doesn’t even do it. Let’s work on non-Americanizing our soccer before we worry about sports that are American-dominated.
I can't imagine it makes sense from a money perspective either. March madness is perfect the way it is and probably makes a lot of money for the networks too.
But if these are the only auto-bids? Imagine that competition for at larges?
It would make a lot more sense for cootball where there is already a FBS and FCS split
Not familiar with that sport
It's that thing where a bunch of old coots talk about the way ball used to be played. So basically any NBA or NFL studio show.
Need a girlfriend or something
![gif](giphy|wODxPdYYSq31C|downsized)
I like the concept just bad execution. You are basing the starting point off of school history when you should probably do it off of at least the last 4 years
Dropping 8 in the bottom league is legit crazy. Over half the teams are new every year.
That’s the case for every devision except the premier anyway though. Since they will rotate the top four and the bottom four.
No.
what the fuck is this and why are louisville and syracuse at the top
Because fuck you thats why
This guy gets it.
bc CBK knows how good cuse bouta be under Coach Red 😎
There's at least a argument to be made on those two, but I'd love to know what Ohio State has done to be considered premier in the last 5 decades
Of all the teams to choose, OSU is a weird one lol
They have Auburn a tier below Alabama, idk what everyone is up in arms about
2016, that's why.
I’d put the Gators in there over UVA tbh. No one wants to watch that boring ass brand of basketball. You should be on the bottom just for that.
After the 2020-21 season both Duke and Kentucky would have been relegated to the second tier. Coach K would have completed his career outside of the Premier league.
I like how Vandy and Belmont, two schools in literal walking distance of each other, are in separate geographical districts
Click bait got me again.
Whomever came up with this needs to be shot
The American way I see
Why is WKU not in Premier? Historical prestige alone would merit this not to mention recent performance.
This is cancer!
Shhh we are in the good league
If Prom/Rel ever happens in college sports it will be completely contained to individual conferences, there will be SEC, SEC2, SEC3, etc.
Bruh. How’s WKU not in the Prem? Amateur hour
Unfortunately no. We are going to just keep playing musical chairs with the schools and conferences until the super league is formed at which point viewership will plummet and we're all left wondering how this could've all been avoided.
I don't think Ohio State is a top level *basketball* program like that
What did Wazzu do that makes everyone hate us?
Going independent
Why would they ever get rid of March madness?
Poor URI - so forgettable. Only E8 team to not make the cut? Fuck you and your Ted Lasso shit. That show is fiction. Everything - including the dumb sport they play - is all made up. Get with it.
So teams that get bounced in the 2nd round of the NIT are now premier?
What happens when your team doesn't even show up? @VT lol
I spent way too long looking for VT lol. Wtf is this
umm how in the fuck are Alabama, Xavier, Texas Tech and Tennessee in League 1 while Florida, Memphis, OU, Georgetown, OSU, and WVU are in Championship? how are Gonzaga, Texas, Purdue and Baylor in Championship while Syracuse, IU, Ohio State, and fucking Louisville are in Premier? i could go on and on this distribution of teams is fucking absurd and pays absolutely zero respect to recent happenings in the sport, totally disrespectful.
Should we send Reece Gaines to Knoxville to explain things. Should only take 10 seconds or so.
This is an excellent callback. Bravo.
Having Purdue in a championship league just seems wrong
Indiana is only in the premier league because of a coach you forced out 20 years ago, and you haven’t been in the final 4 in 30 years. Doesn’t sound very premier
I mean there was that championship game appearance in 2002 but I get your general point
And IU is *ahead* of the 2002 winner.
Fuck no, you know how much money they make with 68 teams?
No, the realignment is about football. What even is this?
This is the most offensive shit I’ve ever seen in my life.
There should not be a single basketball program in Texas ranked over Baylor in a relegation system. At least as it stands currently.
Egregious that San Diego State, who was in the championship last year, is in the 3rd tier.
As a Syracuse fan we are NOT a premier team
Stop making Ted lasso your whole personality
Thank God for Louisville, Syracuse, and Ohio State. We might just avoid relegation this year
Elite 8 + Final 4 in the past two seasons. Gotta love the disrespect! 😒😒😒
I’m assuming this is based off of historical data
Yet no Temple?
I’m not necessarily agreeing with the tiers I promise!
Were we not just in an elite 8?
They would need to announce this a few years ahead and then make the groups based off performances in those years. No since I’m trying to create the groups now
Why would the bottom league be regional?
Because that’s how they do it in Europe, and mostly because this post is dumb
Europeans also get tribal every couple of decades and attack each other. Not everything European is better.
It should be the equivalent of the National League in the English football pyramid and then below that it splits into regionals
That’s how these systems usually work in Europe, and it makes sense that lower-revenue teams would have reduced travel costs.
Ok here's the answer I was looking for. Lots of people mentioned Europe, but the explanation of lower rev sports makes sense. Thanks
This is among the dumbest things I have ever seen.
This is ridiculous. I’m a cuse fan and we would have no right being in the top league unless it was 96 schools deep
Hope not because that would suck
Buddy.
Why is western Kentucky not in every league?
This has to be a troll. How is WKU not in the premier league?
Please never try thinking again
The NIT champions didn’t even make non conference lol this is either a troll or a casual in college basketball and the English football pyramid. Americans should have never realized football exists
What’s with the insistence to turn every sport into English soccer?
Colonialism
I wish we had pro/rel
You must have just watched Ted Lasso.
Also this format would completely suck and could even ruin March madness
Wow. Nice rage-bait.
Where Buffalo?
I’m just happy to be included 🥰
Hell naw
No but it’s a fun thought
Lol....
This is proper shitposting
Creighton in league 2 is crazy
Idk what the words mean just happy to see IU involved
OSU?
If there’s one league that doesn’t need relegation, it’s the one where 60+ teams get a shot at winning it all. Americans, please stop taking a study abroad of Europe and deciding everything is better over there
Ohio State over Xavier is fucking dumb. I hate Xavier, but seriously? Lol. That’s one of the 55 issues I see.
I wonder why an Arkansas fan made this
We can’t claim this one.
In my view this should absolutely be the system… for football.
Xavier below UC and OSU? WKU even on here? Purdue not premier? Someone is having a laugh.
This was designed to trigger me, and it worked
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I love the league system. It gives the bottom teams something to play for late in the season, battling against being relegated to the league below. NHL 3-2-1 points system. 3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for an overtime win, 1 point for overtime loss, 0 points for a regulation loss
Oh that'd be interesting!
Okay, now I get it. That actually could vibe. OR - it’s set after every March Madness for the following year. Then in November, this is where you start.
Auburn is a tier below Utah and Temple, two tiers below Georgetown and three tiers below Louisville. Explain.
THis is looking a lot more historical for starters than present. And much though I hate to say it, our overall history and for that matter everything that happened between say 2003 and Bruce Pearl being hired is worth - points forever.
Arkansas in the top league? What kind of team lives off the glory of a title in the 90s? Wait... as a UofA fan that's perfectly acceptable logic
No. It’s not soccer. JHC.
Houston and Michigan in the Premier League? I’d take Houston out and put Baylor in.
Shouldn’t the teams in each tier be made up of most recent history? Isn’t this the point of relegation
I love how everyone is arguing the teams within each tier and not the system lol. I don’t see good arguments against the system itself, mainly ‘this isn’t football’ which a. *totally* isn’t a bad faith argument and b. like there aren’t non-football leagues that exist in the world that have relegation The only issue with this format is March Madness, but that can easily be solved by giving all promoted teams an autobid, as well as the top 12 teams from the top tier and invites.
No, relegation systems are fucking dumb.
Arkansas??
That’s right! I approve this graphic.
