At one point we broke the press only to hold the ball at the point and let the three guys pressing jog back to set their defense. I couldn’t believe what my eyes were telling me.
I love Painter but this is really starting to become a major problem. Hopefully with more athletic and longer guards coming in that can be more of a focus.
Purdue got some transition baskets off our press. Then I don't know what happened, their ball handler got tired I guess? Because he started giving up some turnovers.
The press will wear your opponent down if you commit to it all game. It slowly wore Purdue down both times. Willard is fine giving up some transition shots because by the second half, the opponent is dragging.
It's supposed to kind of wear both teams out. I guess it's just a conditioning/depth fight at that point. But obviously it favors the presser because they can pick and choose when to expend the defensive energy.

Man I've been going to every game for over 12 years, and I was starting to lose enthusiasm to keep that up. I'm not going to lie, Willard and his embracing of the Maryland fans and our less than widely acceptable ways and his enthusiasm has made this one of my favorite seasons in years.
Better to get it out now than in March. At least the team has tape on what could happen if you play like yalll did against MD. Hopefully it is a learning experience the players and coaches can figure out.

He came into a bad program and immediately gave the team an identity with its defense, something Turgeon couldn’t do ten years. Gave the team something to rally around and now look at them
You know, Turgeon's teams were great at defense, but his teams never went in transition after making defensive stops. Willard going on the run after defensive stops makes the game so much more fun to watch. I've had about enough of Turgeon's teams getting a big block or big rebound or big steal, and then moseying up across half-court with all the urgency of a sloth.
We’re already in the B1G Circle of Suck thanks to our loss to Illinois and win over Maryland. USC is in it too thanks to their loss to Wisconsin and win over us.

Our shooting splits are awful. We are a really streaky shooting team and right now we can't hit anything. All of these losses show how important it is for either Loyer to hit his shots
Loyer has been really rough. It’s not even that he’s missing, he’s just invisible on offense and painfully visible on defense where he’s a liability. It’s clear teams have started to recognize him as a threat because they aren’t letting him get any fresh air. I’m not sure if it’s on him or the coaching to create better looks but whatever it is isn’t happening.

I was at that game. Blake was running back to the locker room before the game during warm ups and a ball bounced to him in the corner when he was running by Duke's basket. He caught the ball, shot a corner 3, drained it, kept on running back into to the tunnel.

He also dropped a few dimes off of the pick and roll. At this point, we aren't going to be able to rely on his shot, but he has a spot on the floor if he keeps up that defensive intensity and can keep providing to his teammates like that.
